CS2 stuttering while reaching high fps

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2024 - 01:57

Been trying to run CS2 natively on my Arch system and i have yet to find a thread that pinpoints my problem. My game‘s stuttering when it has to do more GPU intense things (like molotovs, smokes and discord screenshare for some reason) yet it theoretically reaches above 200 FPS on average. I‘ve tried using gamemode but it didn’t change anything from what i could tell.

When capping it to 165 FPS (my refresh rate) the game went pretty smooth but i can feel the input lag but starts to lag out again when starting discord screenshares even though it still reaches its fps cap.

My Specs are: -AMD Ryzen 5 5600X -Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 -32 GB Vengeance DDR4 Ram -MSI B550 -some redmi 165hz monitor I am using the latest version of Arch on I3 - without a compositor

I am >kind of< a noob (set my arch up 4 months ago) so be warned I guess.

can I use obs-gamecapture system-wide?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. April 2024 - 00:57

I use the OBS plugin obs-gamecapture (previously known as obs-vkcapture) to capture my gameplay. I typically use it from Steam with a launch option, straight from terminal to record Dolphin/fceux, or from Heroic via an environmental variable option (OBS_VKCAPTURE=1). I can then add "Game Capture" as a source on OBS and it will record any DXVK/vk3d/opengl game. (It is useful because you don't have to alt-tab or leave the game's window to select the window in OBS, and it is also better for game/recording performance.)

I've heard that you can just set this variable/option somewhere, either in /etc/environment or .bashrc, to have obs-gamecapture running automatically system wide, so you don't have to worry about individual launch options etc. But every time I try the suggestions they never work. I've tried exporting it as well but it didn't work. If anyone else has accomplished this what was the method you used?

[Help needed] Texture flickering in Horizon Forbidden West

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 23:57

Hi all,

I have a problem with running Horizon Forbidden West on my pc.

Textures, especially vegetation, constantly flicker. I have screencapped this issue: https://youtu.be/ESAt5vMXhpo?si=OLUMW6nfrcYGJ59j

My specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
Mainboard: MSI B450 Gaming Plus Max
32 GB DDR4
Radeon RX 6900 XT
EndeavourOS
KDE Plasma 6.0.3 (Wayland)
BTRFS as file system
Kernel version: 6.8.5-arch1-1
1440p screen with 144 Hz
Native Steam installation via pacman

I am running the game on steam (purchased it for steam).

I already tried different proton versions (Proton Experimental, GE-Proton-9-2), turned the graphics quality down to low, disabled AA, turned the resolution down to FullHD, checked the integrity of the game files, used pacman -Syu,

"game" not responding on ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 23:09

I am using ubuntu 22.04 lts on pretty average pc(r 5 3400g, rx 6500xt, 16gb ram). I have a problem in almost every game. A program not responding error is literally popping up every few minutes and its so annoying. Usually I just click the "wait" button and game continues to work without problems. Is there a way to turn off this "program not responding" thing?

Why is it that some games run amazing on Linux, and others run really bad?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 20:41

For example. I'm playing Hi-FI RUSH and Baldur's gate 3. They both run really good, but Horizon forbidden west runs like a bad pc port.

A little dance with the EA App in Lutris I had to do recently that might help someone else out

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 20:31

I'm on Linux Mint LMDE (Debian 12). Recently the EA App stopped working on Lutris for me. I did not find much Google-able info on getting it working again. It failed to launch/download in the "Connect" section as a launcher/runner (the "correct" way to do it in Lutris) and it also failed to install as a standalone app. Documenting what worked in case someone else finds themselves in a similar spot.

My Lutris was out of date by several months so I performed an update to 5.17 on Flathub. This didn't work and encountered another issue with umu (now umu-launcher) not being packaged with Lutris and not installing/linking correctly, referenced by this Git issue. You will probably see "Install umu to use Proton" But okay, I'm using a Stable-ish distro with the "latest-commit" packages over Flatpak, should be expected, let's try the previous version (5.16) which is still pretty up-to-date.

I roll back to version 5.16 with Flatpak by using these steps - things work/launch now. However, the EA App is still broken. It needs to be updated and the update process does not go cleanly through either Lutris or EA's own updater. I discover that this is actually an issue many Windows users have with the simple solution of wiping the EA App install directory entirely. For Windows, this can be a pain. For Linux, this couldn't be easier as it's entirely isolated to its own ea-app directory. Just rm -rf the damn thing after backing up your saves.

Afterwards, it's just a clean install from however you prefer, I just installed it as a standalone app this time to try that out, but adding it as a runner/launcher works too.

TLDR:
  • upgrade Lutris, but only to 5.16 (5.17 probably works if you build/install umu-launcher on your own, but I haven't opted to explore that yet) Flatpak specific version instructions

  • back up your games/saves under ea-app

  • completely wipe ea-app (rm -rf the whole directory, /home/YOURUSER/Games/ea-app if you left it as-default)

  • re-link your account or reinstall ea app

which is a better container for steam: firejail or flatpak?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 20:03

so far, i've just been using the native package for steam without any level of isolation from the base system, however i've recently been looking to change that. for standard desktop applications - from what i've seen - these two seem like the more 'convenient' option for some level of sandboxing (i would run in a vm but to me that doesn't seem viable with only a single nvidia gpu). that being said, i've used neither of these options, so i'm looking for third party input on which one of these is the recommended option, preferably with security in mind. if the answer is different because of this: i'm using X11

bonus question: is the security of firejail effected negatively in anyway if i'm running steam from a chroot? if i were to go back to native packaging, i would prefer to separate the 32 bit dependencies as well if possible

SteamTinkerLaunch Can't Install MO2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 19:47

Hello all,

I decided to go back to my Fallout New Vegas installation after watching the new show, which I'd play for at least three dozen hours or so on Steam Deck already. When I tried to launch it, it crashed instantly. No big deal, I figured some sort of update had occurred on either the OS level or the STL level that might cause that, so I figured I'd reinstall STL using ProtonUpQT and that would fix it.

Well, many hours later, here's where I'm at: after reinstalling, and trying to start Fallout New Vegas through STL it will pop up "Installing MO2" and then crash instantly.

I figured that I'd try using the Konsole, since I saw that on their installation instructions. It pops up with the Installing ModOrganizer window, but shows the text: bus_name=com.steampowered.PressureVessel.LaunchAlongsideSteam and just stays there indefinitely, never installing.

I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I have a nontraditional MO2 installation that was previously working - copying my MO2 folder from my PC and then using a custom command in STL to open it, which worked fine at the time, but not any longer. Even circumventing that and not using any customer commands, STL still can't figure out what to do with MO2. I've tried dropping the MO2 files from their 7z into the drive_c/Modding/MO2 folder that it wants, but that doesn't seem to make any difference at all.

Any suggestions at all? I barely know anything about linux ultimately, and I feel like I've kinda walked far enough into the woods at this point to get lost.

Edit: Just noticed in the Konsole that I also have this message: "(yad:66289): Warning **: 12:40:27.564: atk-bridge: get_device_events_reply: unknown signature" Not sure what that means either.

Also not sure if it matters, but I also get "USEMO2PROTON is 'non', so using latest Proton-GE 'GE-Proton9-2' automatically."

Linux gaming, better than windows?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 17:48

My pc is very low spec. GTX 750ti and i5 3rd gen. But gaming on Linux works flawless.

Honkai star railly runs better on wine then on windows 10.

I get in much games more fps then on windows, native games and with wine layer. Some years in the past, I would don’t believe this.

So if some guys here struggle if the should do the hop on Linux, I would say just do it.

For some special windows program, just use kvm or virtual box.

I use arch btw with i3wm

SkyrimSE Mod Organizer 2 active plugins are disabled automatically

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 16:45

Hi, every time when I launch Skyrim with active plugins through mod organizer 2, the plugins in the list of active plugins are turned off and I don’t load into the game How can I force the mod organizer or Skyrim to identify active plugins that are clearly registered in the plugins files?

p.s. such mods as no bethesda intro are not disabled and working, only active plugins are disabled.

i know there are billions of such topics already telling how to fix it, my screen too small to search for it, if you can give a link to solution, i'll be gratefull

What is the most compatible controller with Linux and Steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13. April 2024 - 15:47

I'm using a X3 Wireless Controller and it's working nice on Windows (using for pirate games and PS1/PS2) Emulator, but my Linux Machine (Mint) doesn't recognize the controller after connection via Bluetooth, so, it's not compatible with my not pirate Steam games. So I guess I need a good controller, which one do you recommend?

Thanks in advance!
