How Can I Use The8bitdo Ultimate Software On Linux

18. September 2025 - 14:00

(before you ask, i'm posting this here as it got auto-filtered on both r/8bitdo and r/controllers for some reason) I just got myself an 8bitdo Pro 3 and have been loving it! However when I went to go use the ultimate software (v2) to add functionality to the new r4 and l4 buttons, I realized that:

1 I can't boot it on linux from what I could find 2 It isn't working on my android phone at all

Is there some easy way to use the ultimate software on linux? I don't want to dual boot if possible as that seems like a colossal waste of my time. I might have to return this controller if Linux isn't supported for the software as that was something they advertised it as doing (steam OS support).

Looking for compatible lever less fight pads

18. September 2025 - 13:22

Hey all. I’m in the market for a lever less fight pad to replace my current one. I’ve used the junkfood arcade micro pad, but after I switch to Linux, I found it didn’t work as well. Is 8BitDo’s compatible? Any other’s worth looking at?

I am trying to run Crysis 2 Maximum Edition via Steam and failing miserably.

18. September 2025 - 11:18

Hello guys,

I usually troubleshoot stuff by changing Proton versions and etc, but it seems as though the issue is different here. It has something to do with the EA app.

Steam_SetMinidumpSteamID: Caching Steam ID: 76561198872801363 [API loaded no] Adding process 74713 for gameID 108800 Unable to locate required EACore.dll. Make sure PatchManagerExample.exe is in the same directory as the Core files. Adding process 74726 for gameID 108800 pid 74641 != 74640, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)

Is there any way to launch Crysis without the EU app? Or have we lost the ability to call Linux an OS that can run Crysis because of EA's rubbish DRMs?

To help with the situation please ask me questions, and I will also add that I run Wayland + Nvidia.

Thanks for reading.

Recommend me a good gaming display

18. September 2025 - 10:31

I am using currently 8 years old 4K 60Hz display. As I finally replace 10 years old gaming PC to 9950X3D/9070XT, I am also considering a new display.

  • Is HDR worth it and supported in Linux?
  • Is higher than 60Hz display worth it?
  • Is 240Hz or higher worth it to give up 4K?
  • IPS or OLED?

Winboat external contact

18. September 2025 - 10:19

Winboat is the best integration of Windows with Linux I know of!

Thanks for that.

I'm running Linux alongside Windows 11.

Can I share a folder in the Windows world?

And view and use it in Windows under Winboot.

Or is access limited to the home folder in Linux?

Thank you!

Bayaya on Steam: 3D point-and-click adventure with Linux support

18. September 2025 - 10:04

We are getting ready to publish a game demo within a few weeks, with Linux support: Bayaya on Steam: Bayaya on Steam

Short Trailer

Being a Windows user, I have only tested the game on VMWare so far. If someone likes the game’s style and would like to check it out before the demo goes public, please contact me to get a key.

I’m curious to see how many Linux players we will get. Most developers report between 1–10%, depending on the genre. This game is more relaxed/casual; my impression is that Linux users often prefer more hardcore or intricate games — but perhaps this one has more under the surface than it seems.

CS2 Wayland broken again after last update

18. September 2025 - 08:23

I play on 4k resolution and the latest update broke Fullscreen native Resolution in CS2 for me. I cant switch to fullscreen, the only two options are windowed and borderless windowed but those two options only allow me to set the resolution to 1920x1080p. Did anyone else who uses Wayland for CS2 notice this?

Will My Steam Games Still Work in 2060? (Proton, Open Source, and Preservation)

So I’ve been thinking about the far future of PC gaming — specifically, what happens to all our Steam games if we jump ahead to the year 2060. Gabe Newell eventually steps down, new hardware architectures arrive (ARM, RISC-V, “ARM2”), and the Steam Deck hype may or may not last forever.

Here’s a breakdown of what could realistically happen, based on Valve’s history and current tech:

🔹 Valve’s Track Record
  • They don’t abandon old games. Half-Life (1998) and CS 1.6 (2000) still run fine today.
  • They fund open-source solutions. Proton (built on Wine/DXVK) is Valve’s biggest investment in Linux gaming.
  • They already ship emulators. Many DOS/point-and-click classics on Steam include DOSBox or ScummVM bundled. ➡️ This shows Valve cares about compatibility and is willing to use open-source tools to make sure stuff still works.
🔹 Scenarios for 2060 ✅ Best Case

Steam Deck and similar devices stay profitable → Valve keeps investing in Proton.

  • Wider compatibility, even for AAA titles.
  • Linux gaming reaches full parity with Windows.
⚖️ Mid Case

Steam Deck stops being profitable → Valve slows down Proton investment.

  • Proton goes into “maintenance mode.”
  • Still works fine for most games, and because it’s open-source, the community keeps improving it.
❌ Worst Case

Valve drops Proton entirely and steps away from Linux gaming.

  • Official support ends.
  • BUT Proton is open-source → community + Wine devs can continue development (just like Wine has survived for 30 years).
🔹 Architecture Shifts (x86 → ARM2 or beyond)
  • Big shifts will need emulation (like Apple’s Rosetta 2).
  • Valve hasn’t promised anything, but based on Proton + DOSBox history, it’s likely they’d support a solution.
  • Even if not, open-source devs will almost certainly step in.
🔹 So… What Are the Chances?
  • High chance (70–80%) → Your single-player Steam games remain playable in 2060 thanks to Proton, emulation, or community projects.
  • Moderate chance (15–20%) → Some games break temporarily after big tech shifts, but later get fixed.
  • Low chance (5–10%) → A few niche games might die forever (mainly ones with broken DRM).
🔹 Conclusion

Valve has already proven that they’ll use open-source solutions (Proton, DOSBox) to keep games alive. Even if Valve pulls out, the community won’t let decades of PC games vanish.

So while nothing is 100% guaranteed, it’s very likely that by 2060 you’ll still be able to boot up your favorite single-player Steam games — even if it takes a bit of emulation magic.

CS2 Feels funky and wont work with gamescope

18. September 2025 - 07:17

Specs:
RTX 4060 Ti
Ryzen 5 7600
32Gb ram

Pre-info:
I am using KDE Fedora 42
Gamescope causes crashes on launch

So at the moment I have a decently fresh install of fedora just learning the lay out and playing small games. At the current moment I am trying to play CS and it just feels weird. I'm going to provide screenshots at the end of this post to show what I mean but it just feels like I'm playing a 32bit game. My FPS is fine, I'm slightly annoyed I can't fullscreen but I can play stretched just fine. Honestly linux in general just felt blurry on my second monitor mostly but sometimes on my main(could be paranoid but shrug). If I could get some help fixing anything, most likely gamescope, or any times to make my time better it would be greatly appreciated.

The main thing I have noticed is that my crosshair is longer. When I used windows It was 4 squares now its 4 trectangles. It honestly feels like I'm playing the CSGO version of Doom

Latest nvidia 580 update question (sorry another BL4 post)

18. September 2025 - 07:09

I was pretty surprised I was able to run BL4 day 1 (performance issues aside, my own fault for not buying a 5090, sorry Randy). Anyway, it ran fine, I used Proton 9 and the latest driver (using Ubuntu btw if this makes any difference).

Just now I had an update, and now getting dx12 error. I checked the logs and saw that it was the nvidia 580 driver. I first tried Proton experimental and beta, still no luck. Tried rolling back the driver (with the help of ChatGPT because I'm a bit thick to do it myself), turned out 575 is using components from 580 now, managed to purge everything and roll back to 535, 550 and 560 and had no luck with either versions. I assumed that I could somehow get back to my previous version, however it seems like the 575 itself was updated from 575.64.03-0ubuntu0.24.04.1 to 0.3, and I can't seem to roll it back as it goes straight to 580.

I understand that my best way forward is to move to an AMD gpu to avoid this type of stuff, so I'm likely to switch over in the near future, however wanted to see if there is something I'm missing that I could do in the short term. Or does this mean now I gotta wait for the next nvidia patch?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Can't get Metal Gear Solid V: GZ/TPP running for the life of me on cachyOS

18. September 2025 - 05:20

The game runs perfectly on my ROG ally running bazzite, but my cachyOS desktop cannot. I've tried multiple versions of proton, cachy proton, GE proton, etc. How did you get the game running?

Crusader Kings III crashing (Linux Mint)

18. September 2025 - 04:32

Hi everyone, I installed linux mint cinnamon for the first time on my laptop. I have an older laptop from 2017 with a GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile GPU and im using the recommended Nvidia drivers. Other games I've tested on my laptop work fine, but CK3 does not and this is an absolute deal breaker for me as it is my favorite game on pc and it ran perfectly fine on windows but it crashes everytime I start it up on linux, and no fix seems to work. A common solution I've found online is to launch it without going through the paradox launcher by using the terminal but that does not work for me as the game loads but never makes it to the start menu before freezing my entire computer and forcing me to shut down with the power button. I was wondering if anyone can help me find a solution as I might have to go back to windows which I dont want to do.

Switch 1 Joy-cons not connecting to Mint cinnamon 22.2

18. September 2025 - 03:08

I've already tried installing Joycond and hid-nintendo. I've tried adding them through the terminal, but the same thing happens, the right one wont connect at all and the left one flashed between connected and disconnected. My ps4 controller and Bluetooth earbuds connect fine. (They were also off when I tried to connect the joy cons just in case.) System information is included in the pictures bellow. I'm running bluez version 5.72.

Laggy mouse

18. September 2025 - 02:45

So, I recently changed to Linux and in most of the games I tested, the mouse seems to be in the framerate of the game, and not in the refresh rate of my monitor. Like a software mouse, as in it lags when my game lags. I tried different versions of Proton and the latest GE seems to almost work (it works half of the time) in Guild Wars 2 (the game I was testing with) (it actually works in fullscreen, bugging only in borderless). Anyone knows any fix? Thanks!

Bazzite 42, KDE Plasma, Wayland, all AMD stuff, 2 monitors with VRR and different refresh rates.

Edit: typos

Ps5 audio through PC

18. September 2025 - 02:26

I switched to Linux a little over a month ago, and cannot seem to get this working. I tried doing the same aux cord setup I was using on W11, but it doesn’t work for me on Linux.

When I plug in the aux cord from the ps5 controller to the PC I see the line in pop up in the volume mixer, but it doesn’t play audio through the headset.

I’m running Endeavouros with KDE DE. I’m using a dual sense and dual sense edge controller, both no audio.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try? Or if there is something else I can do to get the audio to go through the PC other than the aux cord.

Elder Scrolls Online - Choppy FPS / Stuttering Tip

18. September 2025 - 02:06

Wanted to share a fix for an issue that has been bugging me - I have installed Elder Scrolls Online using Lutris on the Bazzite linux distro. Installation was relatively smooth but when launching the game I noticed that my FPS, despite being high at ~123, was incredibly choppy with my screen stuttering severely while turning the camera.

While scrolling through my phone idly I found a thread somewhere that suggested to try closing the ESO launcher in the background (I cannot find this thread again so sorry for not giving credit). After closing the ESO launcher in the background, ESO's FPS became super smooth. I do not know why this fixes the issue, but it was a surprisingly simple fix and I wanted to try to make it more visible for people in the future.
