Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 16:33

When I search online I get all these terms like opentrack, aitrack, linuxtrack, wine freetrack etc which is making me pretty confused on what thing does what and which ones I need. Any easy to follow guide for a head tracking noob? I am on arch.

How to set up linux for gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 15:25

Hey All,

I'm getting increasingly frustrated trying to game on Linux. Some games just work, and I've been happy: Elden Rings, 7 days to die, Hades 2 (took a bit of tinkering with proton). I am running Garuda, because I was told it comes with almost everything I'll need right out of the box.

I've had all sorts of problems (mainly with EA) with Mass Effect. I tried all the usual stuff, then installed lutris, to install EA because for some reason I was unable to install EA through Steam (like many people on Reddit were able to do) and then I found "gamemode" which was almost never referenced (and certainly not as something to be installed), but I learned I had to install that. And then I ran into the dreaded "cannot connect to port 3216". And then after multiple restarts, randomly picking proton compatability, just in various configs, it worked! And I was happy for a good month. Now I thought to install Dragon Age Inquisition, and not only am I running into a lot of the same problems I had with Mass Effect, Mass Effect is broken again...

TLDR, getting frustrated and considering switching back to windows. As much as I hate the OS, I haven't spent this much time trying to get things to work. So in a last ditch effort, I'm trying to find a guide of exactly how and what everyone installs on their machine. I'm looking for something like "install: Steam (comes with proton), install wine-tricks, install lutris, then install EA App through lutris" and hoping it's in order. While I understand that order of operations shouldn't matter... I've run across enough threads where they say "in that order" where I'm questioning my belief in that.

Thanks for any advice or guides. I'm mostly finding the "which distro to pick" and not the "set up your distro like this" despite half the threads having a comment "if you do enough setup, all distros are the same"

Single player shooter recomendations please?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 15:23

Hey all, just finished Stalker 2 and I am back in a place of struggling not to setup a dual boot. Its like everytime I check protonDB i get dissapointed by some Ahole shoving a kernel level anticheat into a game i wanted to play. Todays heartbreaker was the Battlefield 1 Revolution Page. Im not opposed to multiplayer, but inprefer a good single player campaign. Couldnt get into RDR2. Loved Cyberpunk, Metro Exodus, Stalker 2, Titanfall 2, and Days Gone. Borderlands and Doon were ok, but I like stealth as an option, not a requirenment. Dont mind playing anything a few years older. Thanks and Merry Christmas. Maybe Santa will bring us a way to beat anti-cheat

Heroic Launcher gives an error when trying to login to Epic Games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 14:42

It says "Sorry, the client that sent you here did not pass the parameters needed for you to login." I've searched around but the only solution that I can find is to reinstall the Epic Games Launcher on Windows which is obviously not applied here. Any solutions?

Steam Flatpak Controller issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 12:27

Hey everyone, I recently assembled a new pc and been setting it up with Alpine Linux. I installed the Steam flatpak and it has been working mostly great except for the in the title mentioned controller support, which is not working unless I add my user to the input group, which is a thing I am trying to avoid. So I know about the steam-devices package that adds udev rules to supposedly allow controller access but it has not been working for as well. I have even tried the other package that adds udev rules, its called gaming-devices-udev I think, to no success unfortunately. I checked that the vontrollers work when in the input group, so its definitely a permission issue. I even followed the Alpine Linux gamepad wiki entry and it still wouldn't work. As a general info I am running a Rxzen 9 7900 with an Rx 6800 and have setup the udev that is recommended on the Sway wiki page. I doubt that its going to matter for this but I am running btrfs. The controllers I tested were a wired xbox 360 one and a wired Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Installing hyprland on Nobara guide and if it breaks

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 12:11

Hey Yall, I have switched fully to linux (nobara) and I dont think i will ever go back to widows now, but one thing i really want to try is how to install and use hyprland, and if it will break anything that already exists. I am not good at coding and the videos I could find seem outdated so I am not sure if it will break anything, or if hyprland even works on nobara. Help?

Need help with Lego Lord of the Rings on Steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 11:00

Hi guys!

I am using Manajro. Installed Steam and hoped to play Lego Lord of the Rings on it, but no luck. I installed and preinstalled lot of Proton versions, includin two GE versions - 8 and 9. I rebuild countless time the game prefix because it always created 64bits, but the game requires 32bits.

Finally after I spent almost a day I gave up and hope for help.

Is there someone who can gave me directions to run this game?

As I said I use Manjero on Beelink Ser 5 Pro (or Max) with processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800H.

Regards!

I want to move to Linux, what distro/software?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 10:46

So I'm looking to ditch Win11 just on general principles (Microsoft account, edge fuckery, bloat) but with my setup I'm unsure what to use. Pc consists of:

R5 7600X NZXT n7 B650e 16gb DDR5-5200 Rtx 4070 12gb 1tb NVME 2 tb HDD NZXT Kraken Pro 280 (the one with the screen)

Not the best, not the worst. I play a mix of AAA and older games (still playing Diablo 2 LOD, not Resurrected) and have a few non-steam, non-launcher games that I guess you just run through lutris?

I've been looking at bazzite, is this my best starting off point? I have cursory experience in Ubuntu/Mint, but not to the point of getting any games to work.

Also, will I be able to play Monster Hunter Wilds on Linux or do I need to save a Windows partition? Same question for my lights and AIO screen.

Would I be better served with a stripped-out Windows like AtlasOS? Questions, questions, and I'm trying to read enough to answer my own but I don't find all the answers I need.

Settings for Marvel Rivals? Can't see cutscenes.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 10:39

Marvel Rivals works out of the box, as most games do these days. But theres one issue, whenever I start and end a mission, I just get a black screen (with chat) while the mission ends of finishes. Looking at other players on youtube I realize there's a cutscene playing there that I'm missing. And every now and then the game hangs there, and I have to restart.

Any one know any settings I can tweak to fix this?

I hate windows, but can't leave it because of amd fluid motion

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 10:17

I recently got an ROG Ally, and I absolutely love it. That said, it comes with Windows, which I’m not a fan of. It feels more like a small-screen laptop than a gaming console.

I really like Bazzite for its console-like experience, but I have to admit, AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames is on another level. Since I mostly play indie games, I’ve found they run great at 9W with Fluid Frames, which is super impressive.

Unfortunately, we don’t have this feature on Linux yet, so I think I’ll stick with Windows for my Ally for now. I just wish it were available on Linux too!

How to set up the analog stick deadzone on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25. Dezember 2024 - 09:46

Hi everyone,

I'm considering to switching to Linux. Right now, on W11, I used a FOSS called Gamepad Phoenix to edit the analog stick deadzone/max limit as in this picture, because my controlled motion is limited to a radius and some games are designed to get a square range of motion.

I know that this problem can be solved with Steam Input, but I prefer a FOSS. How can I do?
