Can't connect my XBOX One game pad with Dongle

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 1:33pm

I have a dual boot system with Windows 11 and Fedora 40 KDE. I want to be as least reliant on Windows as possible. One of the issues I found was that my XBOX One can't connect to the dongle while using Linux. Also, the LED indicator never turns on.

I found about the xone driver. Followed all steps to install it, to no avail. Here are the logs when I connect the dongle:

All Reddit threads I found so far are oriented towards the Steam Deck, which is not my case, it's a regular desktop PC. Do you thing this is a driver issue, or the problem lies elsewhere? Thanks in advance!

Edit: turns out I just had to restart the system and pair the pad and the dongle again. So it seems to be working.

I'm about to switch to Linux mint this will be my first time and i am wondering if it will support the following games: Rainbow 6 siege, Path of exile, Diablo 4. Also will I have to manually install all drivers or will it automatically install just like in windows?

[Manjaro] I have to reinstall lib32-glibc-eac-bin every time I want to play Insurgency Sandstorm.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 12:57pm

I know this game always had issues because of the anti-cheat, but I finally managed to get it working last month by installing lib32-glibc-eac-bin, thing is, after restarting the game, I have a 2/3 chance of it not working anymore, getting kicked from games as soon as a join with a "client integrity violation" error. This is fixed by simply reinstalling lib32-glibc-eac-bin and launching the game once again.

It's not a big deal and I can live with it, but if anyone know what steps I might take so that I don't have to do this anymore that'd be great.

OpenDeck, bringing stream controller hardware to Linux with full functionality!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 12:56pm

Hey r/linux_gaming! A few weeks ago I posted to r/linux to promote the beta release of my software, and a few hours ago I've released a stable version, which I'd like to show off to you guys.

I've spent the past year and a half developing OpenDeck, primarily with the intent to bring the expansive ecosystem of Elgato Stream Deck plugins to custom or third-party hardware, and realised early on that it could also be used to restore the full functionality of first-party Elgato devices on unsupported operating systems, such as our beloved GNU+Linux.

After many hours in development, the (MIT-licensed) software supports the usage of many OpenAction and Stream Deck SDK plugins (such as the ones featured here and here), with Elgato Stream Deck and Ajazz AKP153 hardware (and my custom, not available publicly, "ProntoKey" hardware) on Windows, macOS, and GNU+Linux. I'm posting here to invite testers for the latest stable version, available as a `.deb`, `.rpm`, `.AppImage` (not recommended), and from the AUR. Contributions for additional hardware, features, or bug fixes would also be thoroughly appreciated!

Please do leave feedback or questions in the comments of this post, on Matrix, Discord, or GitHub Issues. Enjoy!

questions on laptop gpus on linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 11:09am

i tried a few distros on this laptop of mine, which is a 2018 dell with an i5 as cpu and radeon 520 as gpu, and only windows used that radeon for my games. i couldn’t make it work for any linux distro. which makes me scared of buying a new laptop (my laptop’s 768p screen bothers me sometimes) with gpu. most of the solutions i found only worked with nvidia laptop gpus, so if i get a laptop with nvidia it should be easier? or i should avoid gpus on laptop altogether?

Ghost of Tsushima crashes when using the map. Steam

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 11:04am

Hello guys, hope you can help me. When I try to use the ingame map, very often the game crashes for me. I can still see the map on the screen and hear the sound, but I cannot interract with the game window and the only fix for this is to force quit the game from steam and run it again.

I'm able to run the game in 60 fps with no issues, it uses aprox 4 - 4.5 GB of my vRAM. It only crashes when opening the map for some reason.

My specs are: NVIDIA 3060 mobile GPU / 6gb vRAM Intel i5 10th gen 32gb RAM

My NVIDIA drivers are updated to the latest ones from ppa, I'm running the game on Ubnutu with Wayland, on my external monitor.

I'm using latest ProtonGE, and have tried different Proton versions TNA.

I diddn't find any error in the log files regarding this issue - neither in terminal nor in the GhostOfTsushima.log in the Documents folder where save files are being kept.

I would like to get some information about the status of the 4060/4060ti for linux to make a more informed decision.

P.S. My reference distro is Pop OS.

No Mans Sky not working with Intel GPU?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 10:19am

I was so excited to try this game out, I'm running it on Linux (Ubuntu 24 LTS), but failed everytime so far to get to the main menu. As the game crashes with the following message: "The game has encountered an error and will now shutdown. Please refer to hellogames.zendesk.com for help if the issue persists and include this token as reference: ..."

I checked the forums, there were two links that discuss related topics:

https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/213596929-Game-crashes-when-it-starts-Steam

https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/17138192981266-Game-crashes-when-it-starts-ROG-Ally-Z1-CPU-Portable-Devices

However in both posts it doesn't say anything about Intel GPUs, only nvidia or amd. I have tried to play on Steam, and now on GOG too but the issue persists. Other users on protondb seem to have the same issue, but not all of them.

Now I wonder if this is a Linux+Intel GPU combination issue? How can I even update my graphics driver?

Issues while running Wayland from Plasma6 (black screen with cursor)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 10:17am

Hello, I am a fairly new user to arch linux, and am really trying out the "gaming" side of the machine. Over all, I am very happy, but I do want to try out wayland before I rest.

__Question__
While setting up my computer, I have done all of the required steps listed on the arch wayland wiki and the kde wiki. When I originally made these changes, I thought that it was originally working. By morning though, it seemed like I was always being brought to a frozen black screen with a cursor at the top left. This was incredibly annoying as there was no errors in sight.

__Here is what I have tried__
- set modeset to 1: I have placed options nvidia_drm modeset=1 inside of the etc/modprove.d/nvidia-drm.conf folder. I also ran the command and it returns with a Y

  • is the nvidia module installed? is wayland module installed?: I have the following modules: nvidia-dkms, nvidia-utils, nvidia-settings as well as on the wayland side: wayland, qt6-wayland, xorg-xwayland, wayland-utils and kwayland

__My Fix Attempts__
Here is the logs of the root user displaying journalctl -xe : pastebin linkAt this point, there is way to much information for me to break down. But I feel there isnt really anything about there errors. Now for you to decide...

This is when I say someone online point out possibly running the following command: dbus-run-service startplasma-wayland . This does not crash the terminal anymore, and just tells me "Could not create wayland socket".

I also see online that people are pointing out errors with certain themes in plasma that is effecting the wayland installation. I thought this might be the case and reset the styles back to breeze to the best of my ability.

I also got an error while running the dbus-run-service startplasma-wayland command, and it gave me a "permission denied" error reading /run/user/1000/doc. I changed the permission level for this file, and it seems to have fixed this error. Not super important, but may be related.

I hope this is more than enough information, but I am sure it is not the case. You can see this as a repeated thread, I have just never found an adequate answer on reddit and other forums. Thanks for reading.

GMOD crashing while loading a map

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 10:15am

GMOD on Steam keeps crashing when loading a map, rendering the game unplayable. I tried both native and Proton versions of the game, but the behavior is basically the same across both. I used the CEF Codec fix as well, on both game versions. Still same behavior. Switching between X11 or Wayland does not fix the issue.

Arch Linux, KDE Plasma (latest), NoVideo GTX 1650, Intel i5 10400, 16GB DDR4 2660mHz Crucial RAM.

proton game mouse input stutter (on click), but not every time

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 9:59am

I'm having the weirdest issue. I start a game and play fine. A while later I start another (same or other) game and then all my mouse clicks cause 0.25s game lag, making them unplayable. I have no idea why this is happening, my mouse is a Corsair darkstar wireless. It was completely fine a while back, I feel like it's been caused by the Nvidia 560.35 driver (I'm on fedora 40, kernel 6.10.7).

I'll see if there's some logs in dmesg or something, but has anyone encountered the same issue?

Need Help Installing FusionFix for GTA IV on Mint Cinnamon 21.3

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 9:55am

I managed to get a workaround working where I used proton tricks to change the version of windows that the game launches with to windows 10. However, after installing the required files for fusionfix and entering the dll override command that is linked on their github page, none of the modded settings work.

please help :(

Is Steam Meant to use a GB of RAM idle?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 8:19am

I know this might be semi-unrelated, but I'm having tons of issues with Steam on Debian unstable, and the workaround uses seemingly a lot of RAM.

Basically, I can get past the login screen- but then the steam client window border (The transparent outline of the application if you know what I mean) flickers on screen every 5 seconds, for like half a second each time. No error messages. It feels like it's trying to open, but something just wont let it, and kills it in an instant.

The only way I can get into steam is by launching a game, which will open steam and the game at the same time. It is perfectly usable, the only issue with this is in the system monitor, steam literally transforms into the game I'm playing. Instead of "Steam" the application will be the name of whatever game I'm playing, and it will use a gigabyte of RAM. I would expect it to be like, half that?

Is this normal? I'm fine with this janky workaround if a gigabyte of idle RAM usage is normal because I literally can't figure out how to fix it

Help Reinstalling: Same Fedora, Different Spin

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Sep 2024 - 6:45am

I want to switch over to the KDE spin because I saw the possible customization options on r/unixporn and now I have come up on my first inconvenience.

I need to transfer my apps, files, and configs. I have my files covered with deja dup backups yet I don't know a less tedious way transfer or recreate the rest.

Is there a solution to this? Is there a certain app, website, or program? Do I need to script something out? I would like to know.
