is it worth buying second ssd for dual boot?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 58 min 26 sec ago

assuming that I have the budget, should I buy second ssd for dual boot?

I plan to play games on both OS, whichever performs better with whichever game.

I currently have 2TB KC3000 ssd. if I buy second ssd, it will be of 500GB and half performance of KC3000.

What are the implications ?

and If I do end of with 2 ssds, on which one should I install linux and windows

Hi folks, sorry for the self‑promo. I’ve built an open‑source project that could be useful to some of you

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 hours 15 min ago

TL;DR: Web dashboard for NVIDIA GPUs with 30+ real-time metrics (utilisation, memory, temps, clocks, power, processes). Live charts over WebSockets, multi‑GPU support, and one‑command Docker deployment. No agents, minimal setup.

Repo: https://github.com/psalias2006/gpu-hot

Why I built it

  • Wanted simple, real‑time visibility without standing up a full metrics stack.
  • Needed clear insight into temps, throttling, clocks, and active processes during GPU work.
  • A lightweight dashboard that’s easy to run at home or on a workstation.

What it does

  • Polls nvidia-smi and streams 30+ metrics every ~2s via WebSockets.
  • Tracks per‑GPU utilization, memory (used/free/total), temps, power draw/limits, fan, clocks, PCIe, P‑State, encoder/decoder stats, driver/VBIOS, throttle status.
  • Shows active GPU processes with PIDs and memory usage.
  • Clean, responsive UI with live historical charts and basic stats (min/max/avg).

Setup (Docker)

git clone https://github.com/psalias2006/gpu-hot cd gpu-hot docker-compose up --build # open http://localhost:1312

Looking for feedback

Is there anyone playing Legends of Runeterra in a Bottle?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 2 hours 34 min ago

Hello.
I am trying to run Legends of Runeterra (LoR).
I wanted to run them from a Bottle.
But I can't start it without riot client first and riot client doesn't want to get updated.
Unlike other riot games, LoR doesn't use Vanguard so it should be possible in some way.
Could anyone help me please?

Piper adding to macros

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 5 hours 31 min ago

The main keyboard I use has a busted 7 (not number-pad) key. I get around this by using Piper and an extra keyboard to map 7 to one of my mouse buttons so I can still use ampersand and any game controls that require pressing 7. However it seems that every time I turn on my computer, Piper changes the macros to also be pressing the left control and left alt buttons. It's more just a PITA for now as I'm planning to get a new keyboard soon anyways. Has anybody else experienced this? I tried searching but couldn't find anything. I'm on bazzite if it matters by the way.

Edit: I thought it would work that way, but apparently it doesn't. I tried remapping it and nothing happens when pressing the buttons and nothing happens if I try mapping any of the other number keys as a macro. Why can't keypresses be mapped individually?

high amounts of cache use negatively effecting performance?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 5 hours 33 min ago

I understand that free ram is wasted ram so linux tries to use up ram to increase performance but I am regularly seeing near 100% ram usage on a 32gb system often with 15 to 18gb of that just being cache.

I honestly feel like its negatively effecting performance for example on a game I go to a new area and it either takes a really long time on the load screen or I am noticing for large amounts of time a building will be missing or an npc will be standing around with no armor on.

I tried flushing the cache while stuck on load screens to see if this is the issue and sure enough it does seem to load

If randomly flush the cache at 100% it frees but does not seem to go back to 100% usage

tldr other than 'buy more ram' is there anything I can do about this?

How do native English speakers talk about games and gaming experiences?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 5 hours 55 min ago

Hi r/linux_gaming. I'm studying how non-native speakers develop English fluency through gaming at University of Barcelona. A few months ago I posted here recruiting non-native English speakers and got a great response, thank you!

Now I need native English speakers as a baseline. What does native speaker fluency look like when talking about games? This baseline lets me identify which fluency patterns in non-native speaker data develop through gaming exposure versus general proficiency.

I think this may especially interest the community because the entire research stack is completely free and open-source software. No proprietary AI services, no data sent to third parties.

If you're an 18+ native English speaker who plays or has played any video game, I have a 5-minute study with audio recordings that needs your participation.

What's involved: - 5 short monologue speaking tasks - Chat with our conversational agent about games

Study: https://survey-rails-bitter-forest-2613.fly.dev/consent

(Page may load slowly - give it 30-60 seconds)

Even if you don't participate: Did gaming ever help you learn anything language-related in your native language - new words, explaining complex ideas, typing faster? Thanks for reading!
