Is it safe to delete Proton shadercache to free up space?
Hey everyone,
I’m running my games through Proton on Linux, and I noticed that my shadercache folder has grown to 14+ GB. A few subfolders are several gigabytes each, while others are tiny and months old.
Before I start deleting things, I wanted to check: is it safe to wipe this folder to reclaim space? Will Proton or Steam freak out, or will games just rebuild whatever they need?
From what I understand, Proton stores precompiled shaders to reduce stutter and speed up shader building. Deleting them shouldn’t break anything — the worst case is that the next time I launch a game, it might stutter a bit while shaders recompile. Some people even recommend clearing shadercache if a game starts behaving weirdly after an update.
But I’m not 100% sure if there are any downsides, especially with newer versions of Proton or Vulkan shader pipelines. Has anyone here deleted their Proton shadercache recently? Did it cause any issues, or was it totally fine?
Also:
Is it better to delete the whole folder, or only the older subfolders?
Does Steam automatically rebuild everything cleanly?

Bluetooth controller (PS5 Dualsense) doesn't ever shut off while idle, continues to drain battery until dead
I'm on Arch Linux using KDE Plasma 6.6.2 (thought it was been an issue as far back as I can remember), but my Dualsense controller over bluetooth never powers off while idle, regardless of the setting in steam or any settings I can find in KDE.
I can't imagine this is a unique issue, but I can't find any mention of it on the Arch wiki or the searching I've done on reddit. I've tried a couple of snippets of udev rules which looked promising but I've had no luck with that either (Mind, I don't remember exactly what, nor am I at all familiar with udev in general).
I'd just like for my bluetooth controller to power off after idle / no inputs for, say, 5 minutes. How would I go about doing this?

Sandboxie replacement
I used sandboxie to have multiple instances of steam running on different accounts. Is there an alternative on Linux for this? I'm specifically using Fedora 43 KDE Plasma.

Trouble with running steam games
I've recently movet to linux Mint (since december 2025) both on my desktop (Ryzen 5 3000 series, with integrated graphics, 8gb DDr4 ram) and on my laptop (Ryzen 5 7520U, 8gb DDr5 ram), and encountered little trouble to do most things. However, since last Mint update, i've noticed some strange things happening rwgarding Steam (and other things too, but this isn't the sub for this, maybe you'll find me on linux4noobs asking more questions later), where, after starting, Steam just stays open but invisible on the screen.
In this image, Steam is open, but the interface is invisible (I can still interact with the buttons), and my solution is to open big picture mode, and after closing it it gets back to normal, but it's annoying to fo this every time and clearly the app's not working as intended.
But this is just a minor inconvenience, the real problem happened since earlier today, when I try to play most Steam games, they open for a fraction of a second and then close, even with proton I cant run them. Example below:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sqzZIXEAf9E8iDJ9KbUx4YICQtBp7Kc7/view?usp=sharing
I've tried running on every version of Proton, and always crashed. Notably, Terraria didn't, but it ran really slowly, like when you try to run a game without installing the drivers (wich I hav, I've tried installing, reinstalling and updating all of my drivers multiple times today, though, admittedly, I have no Idea if I did it right. It would be incredibly helpful if someone linked a video or a doc explaining how to install drivers in a simple way).
This has hapenned (so far as I have tested) only on Steam, as when I tried to run Disco Elysium from an outside app, it worked (although it got stuck in the loading screen and crashed). I've seen today that Steam was very slow and even with the servers down for some time, due to the release of Slay the Spire II (I think), so maybe it can just be because of the slowness today, though I don't count on it.
If it isn't, it could also be the drivers, though IDK, as it's happening on both my Pc and my laptop (and on the Pc it was working fine until at least last week, possibly until yesterday, I'm not sure as I haven't used it this week, and my laptop was bought yesterday).
So anyways, if any of you guys have any idea on what could be going on (and managed to endure this massive wall of text), pleas comment here. I apologize again for the big ass text, and sorry if it's strangely written, as english is not my first language.

Steam downloads very unstable on Arch Linux (speed constantly up and down)
Hi, I'm having a strange issue with Steam downloads on Arch Linux.
When I first installed Arch everything worked perfectly, but after a day the Steam download speed started behaving very strangely.
Problem:
- Download speed constantly goes up and down
- Network graph fluctuates all the time
- A few GB game can take 30–40 minutes
- Disk writes spike high (~1 GB/s) then drop (~200 MB/s), and the network drops at the same time
System:
- Arch Linux (archinstall)
- Kernel: linux-zen
- Filesystem: ext4
- NVMe SSD
- Hyprland
- Steam from pacman
Things I tried:
- Changing Steam download region
- Regenerating Arch mirrors
- Changing NVMe scheduler (kyber, bfq, mq-deadline)
- Checking vm.dirty_ratio, vm.dirty_background_ratio
- Restarting Steam and deleting configs
- Checking network connections
My disk speed is fine and my internet connection is also fine.
The strange part is that this did not happen on other distros (like CachyOS) where Steam downloads were stable.
Has anyone experienced Steam downloads constantly fluctuating like this on Arch?

(NATIVE SUPPORT) Our cyberpunk game about hacking megacorps and exploring cyberspace is part of the Rogue Bots Festival, and to celebrate, it’s now on discount!
I made an open source tool in Unity for connected hardware devices
tldr: A simple starting point for hardware device support made in Unity.
Background:
I never had any controllers, and have used just keyboard and mouse when gaming. But starting to make my own game, I could not even make the back button on the mouse work in Unity on Linux, and when I wanted to add some joystick support things was very limited. So, without much background knowledge about kernel stuff, I just started using HIDSharp on connected devices to build my own bridge to the Unity Input System. After months of work, getting a few devices to work, I came across the intel that the kernel already have a lot of this working, but still not in Unity. I also had various problems getting things to work in other games, so I decided to make this tool.
Other tools:
When digging more, I have found many other tools around for various aspects of getting hardware to work on Linux. I have also started to test some out, and support is actually pretty good on Linux these days!
So, why this then?
There is still things I have not managed to get working using existing kernel drivers, so this could be a platform for me to create this support in. I also think some parts of this source code could be used to make a little library to give Unity input system better hardware support. I might convert the bride I made before to use this method to create a library for that. All in all, I want to make it easier to get any hardware to work in any game, via Proton or native. I also want to enrich Linux support in Unity as I have found many barriers (Window positioning issues, mouse button issues, cursor positioning, etc, etc) list is long. Goal is to over time release more useful tools for developers and gamers on the Linux platform going forward.
What's next?
Not sure yet. There is many paths I could take, focus on making lib's for Unity devs to improve native Linux support, extend this tool with some HIDSharp to have some more custom options or extend it with support to map to custom virtual input devices, and more. Maybe posting here will give some feedback that could lead to where the path will first lead.
Hope you have a lovely day, and happy Linux gaming!

Installing Genshin on Linux
Hello. What's the best way to install Genshin on Linux?
I tried doing some research and found several ways to install genshin, all of them with mixed opinions, and there wasn't a single best way to do it.
Most of what I could find was outdated info, that's why I decided to make a new post. Since from what I've seen a lot has changed in the last weeks/months with lots of crashes and workarounds.
I've seen people saying to use An Anime Game Launcher, others saying it isn't supported anymore? Others saying they can ban you for using it. Others saying to use Lutris and others Steam. I also want to be cautious because I've read recent comments talking about ban waves for linux users.
It's my first time installing a game in linux that isn't on steam, so I don't have much knowledge about Proton or things like that, I'm using CachyOS btw.
On a side note, I'd also like to ask how to install and use FPS unlockers and if it's safe to do so? When I used to play on Windows I was using FPS unlockers and mods for skins, but I'm fine without the latter.

What happened for such a big drop last month??
I have been tracking this for a bit and this is by far the biggest swing I have seen in either direction for Linux. Did something happen to cause gamers to leave the platform in droves this month? Did they adjust how they tracked their numbers? I used to love seeing linux gain a small market share every month

Video issues with Alan Wake 2 using Heroic
I'm playing Alan Wake 2 through Heroic and have noticed occasionally picture breaks during video (a white line across the image) as well as video smoothness degrades over time. By that I mean the FPS gets really bad. If I change the resolution it fixes it for a time, but then degrades again and need to switch the resolution again.
I'm running Bazzite with an nVidia RTX 5060 8GB OC and am wondering if it's a Bazzite issue or an nVidia issue. If I switch to an AMD RT 9060 XT 8GB (can't afford the 16GB) would that help? I'd prefer not to have to swap GPU's if I can help it, especially if there's no guarantee it will fix the problem. This is the only game I've had an issue like this with. Thanks.

9070xt RT performance check in...
Hello, I'm a Cachy OS user and I'm building my new PC this weekend thanks to a killer Microcenter bundle. Ill be using the 9850x3d paired with the Sapphire Nitro + 9070xt.
My question is, how is the 9070xt doing with RT performance right now in comparison to windows? I have seen a lot of reports of better overall stability in Linux, and I have also seen they Mesa has made a lot of RT optimizations recently.
So any 9070xt users out there that can report on the current state on Linux RT on this card? Thanks everyone.

About three weeks ago I posted something related to WMMT6 on Linux via Teknoparrot (WineGE/UMU-Proton), and today I'd like to announce that I've managed to get the Teknoparrot kernel working for several games.
I've unified all the other guides into one, in case you're interested in niche Japanese games:I've unified all the other guides into one, in case you're interested in niche Japanese games:

Clair Obscur cutscenes freeze
Everything is in the title, I play Clair Obscur a lot, and like since yesterday approximately, whenever I pause a cutscene and relaunch said cutscene, the video freezes, the audio still plays, but nothing resumes the video. I'm on Manjaro with an NVIDIA GPU, and no proton pfx works, I tried experimental, hotfix, GE, everyone of em
