Anybody else with this issue when playing War Thunder?
It is not happening every time, but in most of the games yes. Especially ground battles.
So, I start a game, join a battle, choose vehicle, being spawned... Everything seems to be OK. But suddenly, after 10 - 30 seconds, I have a lag. The lag is every time different, but usually it is after 20 seconds until I was spawned and it is 2 - 15 seconds long.
I thought that it is normal at start, but it is happening to me for more than 3 months and I don't know how to get rid of it. As I said, it is not happening every time. Sometimes I have no lag. But usually after kernel update / NVIDIA drivers update / War Thunder update it starts to be worse. After some time without update, usually it is going to be better.
But it is really annoying, because I go with my tank and every time I have this lag, I crash in tree, wall and when I have pressed a key, so my tank was turning, it is still turning me, so I crash again to something, but almost every time I block the road or crash to another player.
And also, if I have these lags and go to Custom battles, I can play without problems and don't have any lags.
But...
When I start the game and join Custom battles before I play normal match, leave the Custom battles and join normal match, I have so bad lag, my game crashes and I need to restart the computer to be normal again.
Can you help me with this?
Thank you.

Help! Need some legit answers!!
So i have this older laptop which im pretty sure is an HP Notebook(pavilion?) G6..it came with Windows 7.. 500 gig hard drive..something like 2-4gigs of ram and the graphics card is AMD A6 Vision 7500 HD.. if im not mistaken. Its my only working computer at the moment so i did what upgrading i could which isnt much but I know have 8gigs of ram and i installed Linux. The distro is called Lubuntu. Those are the only differences. Im using steam with the newest proton shit(10.1?) that just came out within the last few weeks. Ive tried running guild wars 2 and everquest two both on lowest graphics settings i figured that if my first choice(guild wars) didnt work as WELL as i assumed..id try everquest 2 and have better luck..i cant get guild wars past 2-4 fps and nlt sure what everquest was but was probably a unplayable 10 or less fps. Is this just my garbage laptop? Or should i go back to windows? Or try lutris or wine? Suggestions 🥺

How I Installed Games on Linux (and What I Did Wrong)
Thank you all so much for the support. It's been amazing so far and I really do appreciate it. So, thank you.
Today I wanted to share how I set up Steam and Lutris on Linux and how I’m actually installing my games right now. I’m new to this, so yeah, I’ve made a few mistakes, but this is what’s been working for me so far.
When I first set up my system, I used the software center Discover to install Steam and Lutris. It was just the easiest way for me to do it at the time. I ended up installing both as Flatpaks. Didn’t really know there was a difference when I started, really.
Right now, I’m installing games through Steam inside the Steam client itself, and also through Lutris by adding launchers like Epic Games, GOG, and Ubisoft.
Since then, I’ve learned that using Flatpak versions of Steam and Lutris can sometimes cause issues, especially with Proton versions and drivers and things. Apparently, the better way to install Steam and Lutris is natively using the package manager so they work better with your system drivers and that sort of thing.
I haven’t switched yet (correction: I did swap over Lutris) because so far everything is running fine and I’ve installed lots of games. I’ve installed the launchers, I’ve logged into those launchers. But at least now I know that if I do run into any problems, that could be it, and then I’ll probably reinstall the native versions.
So if you want to install Steam and Lutris the native way, here’s what I’ve learned on Fedora. Basically, you open up the console and type:
sudo dnf install steam
Really, really easy. Loads of text will appear on your screen, it’ll install, and then you can open up Steam and go through the usual process.
Same with Lutris:
sudo dnf install lutris
That’s what I quite like about package managers. it’s that simple. Really elegant. You just tell it “I want to install Discord”:
sudo dnf install discord
I think that might work, although I think for me I did it through Discover. But anyway, it’s very elegant and I quite like that.
My current setup:
I’m using Steam (Flatpak version from Discover), installing my games through the Steam client.
I’m using Lutris (Native version through DNF), installing and running launchers like Epic Games, GOG, and Ubisoft
I’ve also installed Escape from Tarkov on Linux, the PVE version. In fact no, it doesn’t install the PVE version, it installs the whole package. I can only play the PVE version, and I can only play the PMC PVE version. I can’t do the Scavs, because Scav mode runs on Battlestate servers and that has the anti-cheat on.
So if you want to play Escape from Tarkov, you can, but you can only do the PVE version as a PMC.
I’ve also installed OBS, Discord, Teams client (or the unofficial Teams client), Krita, all through Flatpak, and they’re all working fine so far.
If I do run into problems, I’ll probably reinstall stuff, especially Steam, natively. But for now, this is working great.
I’m still learning Linux gaming, this is just my experience so far. If you’re also trying to figure this out, let us know below!
Here is the video version for those interested. No problem if not :)

That’s all for now! Next, I dived into Timeshift and what a bloody mess that was! lol

RE4 HDR calibration screen doesnt work?
I believe this is just a Linux deal because its not happening on Windows. Weather i run gamescope or native Wayland, the slider can go all the way to the right and never makes the square actually dissapear. Running Cachy os with an LG WOLED 27gs95qe wich can do very good HDR. Game play looks good i just wonder if it can look better. Anyone else have this issue with Resident Evil 4? I think the only HDR bug iv seen with Wayland so far. Iv done the calibration in KDE setting first screen to 600 which is my peak without the MLA lenses and 276 on second screen for SDR brightness.

DE and GPU?
I want to fully make the switch to Linux as a daily driving PC if I can.
Installed NixOS, but after some weird issues already, the sort of problems it's foreshadowing is pushing me to try Nobara.
Anyhow, my GTX 1080 might be getting a bit too old to get good support... So If I get to upgrade, wondering if I should go for an AMD instead to get better Linux performance.
And with this in mind, is Nobara solid choice? The only thing I've daily driven up to now was Kubuntu (for work, loved it), but I feel like getting stuff to work involves trying a bunch of stuff which leaves my system in a very messy state.

Choosing a GPU
So i'm between choosing a second-hand GTX 1080 TI 12GB, and a brand New Rx6600.
Would driver compatibility be a problem with the GTX 1080 TI or is it a solid choice?
Also which one is more recommended for some video editing on davinci resolve on the side?

Testing My Steam Release on Linux; difference between distros?
TL;DR: Is Steam more or less the same across distros? Has anyone had issues with games on Steam that were specific to their distro (ex: Steam installed from official repos on two distros; game runs fine on distro A but not on distro B)?
I'm releasing a game on Steam soon, and during the review process, Valve told me I should test it thoroughly on a fresh Linux system. I've been a Linux user for about a decade, and while that game does work on Windows, I've been approaching it Linux-first since that is what I use (Debian, specifically).
I can see from Steam's hardware survey that Arch is the most common distro for Steam players, and I know Steam deck or something like that is based on Arch. I've used Arch plenty, but setting up Arch just for the sake of testing this game feels like a bit much (particularly after encountering a bug in archinstall). Does anyone here know if there would be any significant difference between Steam on Arch and Steam on something like Linux Mint? I just don't want to spend a bunch of time setting up and configuring a system if I don't have to.
Has anyone had any distro-specific issues with Steam games?

Fractional scaling resolution in games
Hi,
I'm having difficulties with game resolutions when using fractional scaling on the desktop.
I have a 4k (3840x2160) screen and at 100% (every DE) is almost unreadable to me. I so scale it to 150%.
However, when I load up a game (e.g. Guild Wars 2, Baldurs Gate 3, etc.) the game resolution is even bigger and goes to 4096x2304 or 5120x2880. When I set the game resolution to the normal 3840x2160 of my screen, everything is so small it's unreadable.
When I scale my desktop to 100% again, everything is fine. Default game resolution is 3840x2160 and it's readable.
I have no idea how to fix this but currently I'm constantly switching off my fractional scaling whenever I launch a game.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is it a known issue?
Some info:
OS: Ubuntu 25.04 (hopping a lot and the issue is not limited to Ubuntu)
DE: Gnome 48 - for some reason KDE is not having this issue. Mate, XFCE and Gnome won't work.
Window system: Wayland - had the same issue with X11
Graphics: GTX 1660 Super
Drivers: Proprietary Nvidia 570.133

Very low FPS in games in Linux Mint, even after optimization
Hey. I recently switched from Windows to Linux Mint for daily use.
I tried to do some gaming and while the games do run correctly on Steam using the Proton hotfixes, the 3D games have incredibly low FPS compared to when I play on my Windows install.
Specifically, either I set the graphics so low that the game becomes animated pixel art, either the game is so slow it becomes a slideshow. While in Windows, I can run most games smoothly at max graphics.
What I did:
I followed the tutorial on https://linux-gaming.kwindu.eu/index.php?title=Improving_performance#Major_tweaks
- Disabled composition on fullscreen apps
- I correctly launch games on steam using GameMode
- Installed the drivers (not through the steps in the tutorial but by using the Driver Manager tool. I am currently using nvidia-driver-570-open as shown in the screenshot)
What should I do ? Thanks!
Edit: Specs

How's GPU undervolting like in Linux right now?
I'm wondering about all three vendors, but mostly about nVidia, given that's what I currently use.
Is it possible, does the tool have a curve editor, and is there an automatic overclock tool like in MSI AB? I find that to be the best starting point for undervolting.
