My main hurdle from going 100% linux is VR support.

Last I heard it was very flaky across the board. But that was a while ago.

How is it doing now? What devices and distros work best with it?

Does the quest 2/3 work at all and wireless, wired or both?

Does it work well enough on nvidia gpus? And which gpu manufacturer does it run best on?

In short, how do you get the best vr experience on linux?

I'm trying to play Xcloud using my keyboard and mouse, so I installed input-remapper. However, only the side-to-side axis (ABS_RX) does anything. I am willing to move to a different program if I can't fix input-remapper.

Hey all,

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a distro that will serve me for both gaming and game dev. I want to challenge myself to try Linux for a few months and if I like it maybe even switch to it. I originally started with Ubuntu primarily because I know it's one of the most popular distros and almost always tends to be supported by software

The problem is that I've already ran into two major issues. The first being that I can't even get Unity to run and even the only workaround I found only partially works and Unity inevitably crashes at some point.

Second is that I almost exclusively use Steam because I also have a SteamDeck but all versions of Steam that I've been able to download have had issues with the main one being that it refuses to open back up after it closes unless I reboot the whole PC.

I know that Linux isn't exactly smooth sailing, I've used it before in college but I was at least hoping for a smooth-ish setup. Given that I just started using Linux like literally 2 weeks ago and don't have a whole lot of data on this install, I don't mind giving another distro a try plus it might be a good experience to try a distro other than the mainstream one

The main software I would expect to work is:

• Unity
• VSCode (i'm open to other text editors though)
• Unreal Engine (this one isn't as much of a necessity bc the Epic Launcher doesn't support Linux which I prefer to use to Manager UE and assets so I'd likely stick to Windows for this)
• Steam
• Not software but I do have an nvidia rtx 30 series GPU so a distro that won't be too much of a nightmare with nvidia would be nice lol

Other software that I use but isn't as important or that I know won't have issues running on Linux:

• Spotify
• Godot
• Blender
• Audacity

As far as games go I can't really give specifics for what I play, I usually try out games that my friends are playing at the moment and their taste changes all the time so I can't exactly pinpoint to specific games or genres that I play

I recently bought a Roccat Kone Pro mouse, but I don’t know how to set up the debounce time since the proprietary Roccat Swarm software is not supported on Linux. Can I change it? I have Arch Linux.

I try to play Stronghold Crusader with my fiancé in lan, but I can't join or host a game. A single player game works fine.

I use Ubuntu 22.04. We tried it with lutris and wine-versions "utris-ge-6.18-1-x86_64" and with "lutris-GE-Proton8-11-x86_64"

What can we do?

Hello,

After a recent update to my system, it seems that all games that use Vulkan crash after a few seconds.

Battlefield 1 crashes seconds after the game window pops up.

Doom Eternal crashes right after the splash screen (as it's about to go to the menu)

Red Dead Redemption 2, interestingly enough, either crashes while I'm loading into the game, or it very rarely loads in, and there's BIG graphical glitches, lights flashing, etc.

However, other games, particularly older ones, like Call of Juarez, seem to work fine.

My guess is that this must be some sort of graphics driver issue. I'm using an AMD 5700 XT with a Ryzen 5 3600.

Should I downgrade my video drivers? How would I go about doing that? Is it possible that all these crashes are just coincidental? Could it be something else wrong with my system?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Black screen

installed like they recommended in wiki. Installed the headers, added contrib non-free and non-freer-firmware in /etc/apt/sources.list. The driver installed without any error, the nvidia settings can even be loaded after intalling, but when I reboot the system and log in, this happens. No key works. I can't type anything. Can't do anything. Any way to solve it?

The main reason why I use Debian is simple. My lucky stats is really low IRL. IF things can go wrong, they go wrong.I also tried the Debian 11 but the driver fails to load in kernel every time that I tried to install.

Hi,

for a small PC (only capable of GPU's up to a length of 22.5 cm) and only 300 Watts power I could get the intel Arc A310 GPU.

My question is: Does anyone have experience with the Intel Arc A310 GPU running Ubuntu (24 or 22)?

And what about vsync with the intel gpu using Ubuntu?

So far I only know Nvidia and AMD and how they handle vsync.

I don't have a Gsync/Freesync monitor btw.

As an alternative I could get the GT 1030 by Nvidia.

Its not possible to get a bigger PC Case as this is for a pc in a tiny house, they have to look for space :)

Hello. I wonder, if anyone knows any ways to get fps at least slightly comparable. Windows gets me 60 FPS while Linux Mint on the same map, settings and launch params gives barely 35. I guess I'm doing something wrong

I'm new to this whole thing and want to know how this gaming works on my Chromebook. Wow Graphics drivers make amazing Improvement I know human fall flat isn't that intensive but me and my friend play a lot of it so I'm going to include the performance I've gained with Graphics drivers so before Graphics drivers game was barely running at the lowest settings Clinging On to 30 FPS but with the graphics drivers I can smoothly play it at Ultra kind of surprising since I'm rocking the laptop equivalent of a GTS 450 I tested some more of my games I like to play Garry's Mod worked Counter-Strike Source worked I even got a couple dozen headshots combat master launched and I got a couple kills Portal 2 doesn't want to open but I am troubleshooting that
