Trying to get GoG Telltale to run

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 4:35pm

So I am very new to linux. Trying out bazitte 42 to work through my steam / epic games back log.

I have a i3 9100f and Gtx 1070. I got the game to launch easy but it crashes after the marvel logo. Is it just because older nvidia gpu ? Yes cpu is low grade it's what I have.

I'm using luturis to launch epic games which does same as Heroic correct ? Just trying out reddit cause I'm not sure where to try and talk to for help.

Is there a good linux alternative for Battlefield?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 4:28pm

I used to play Battlefield 4 a lot on console and the Battlefield 6 hype has given me the itch. Since I don't want to pay 40 bucks on steam for a 12 year old game, or pay for online on console for eternity, are there any similiar games that work on linux and don't enforce the anticheat bs?

Trying to get battle.net working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 4:12pm

Running on Zorin distro.

So I tried Lutris, that didn't work. The battle.net installer just kept crashing and I couldn't see any way to modify any settings to troubleshoot it.

So I switched to Bottles. Bottles was actually able to install battle.net. Was even able to log into my account and launch battle.net. The new issue is that I just get a battle.net error: "battle.net update agent went to sleep....". I tried multiple different "runners" (Soda-9.0-1, Caffe-9.7, Lutris-ge-lol-p8-12, wine-ge-proton8-26, kron4ek-wine-proton-10.0, ge-proton10-12, sys-wine-10.0).

Some weren't able to run battle.net at all, others would just freeze at the login screen. A couple manage to get past the login but as I said, I just hit the battle.net error I mentioned earlier.

Do I need a specific version of one of these runners or am I missing something else?

Thanks.

Weird steam behaviour when booting a game on ubuntu

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 4:01pm

Hello ! Long time ubuntu user and lurker and recently joined reddit. I'm running ubuntu 24.04.2, and steam installed via apt.
I had a question about a weird behaviour I have on steam, I have tried to look it up but didn't find useful info.
A lot of the times (not everytime), when I boot up a game on steam, usually when I hit the first button on my controller, steam kind of goes crazy. Usually the steam window closes, then reopens, then it opens some new windows. Sometimes I get the window asking me to browse folders to add a non-steam game to the library, sometimes I get a window asking me if I'm sure if I want to uninstall the game (don't even know which game), sometimes it's asking me to update my controller driver. I have tried once to say "yes" to see what would happen, and the weird thing is that it didn't do anything and asked me again..
While this happens, the game boots up normally and I just have to completely close steam and it stops doing crazy thing. Also, I have tried using my controller while steam is open but with no game running ( to see if it was the controller that was linked to steam functionalities somehow) but nothing happens.
Does anybody else have the same issue ? Do I have to accept that my steam is crazy (but still nice) ?

Do you think EA will eventually unban Linux players?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 3:34pm

I’ve noticed that Linux players are currently banned or excluded from certain EA games due to anti-cheat or platform restrictions. Do you think EA will eventually lift this ban and allow Linux users to play normally, or is this something we shouldn’t expect anytime soon?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 2:53pm

I am not sure how find and install the best MODS like ACAT and all available cars and tracks DLC. The game is running well. Is modding this game worth it?

CoolerControl not releasing control of fan, after disabling

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 2:19pm

Hello everybody.

Relatively new to Linux Gaming. I do run a proxmox box and a FreeBSD firewall and used to be a professional sysadmin. Gaming was a Windows thing for me until recently. (Also the only thing I was doing on Windows.)

Anyhow, I found CoolerControl, which looks awesome. However, how does one make it relinquish control of a fan? Reasoning see end of post.

CoreCtrl as well as FanControl (Windows) have easy settings for this. If I "disable" a fan in CoolerControl however, it appears to just remove the fan from the UI, but coolercontrold still controls it. I know this, as the default state of CoolerControl is to ramp up my AIO's coolers to 100%. So the first thing I wanted to find out is, how to give control back to the hardware. (Corsair iCUE H100i RGB ELITE).

I am interested in gaining knowledge, not in a discussion about my motivation. I'll only say this, my Power Colour GPU has great (!) fan control out of the box. I spend 2 weeks with FanControl and could not improve on it.

Thanks for the help.

Edit: Things I have done:

Edit2: I am running

  • Fedora 32 KDE (Kernel 6.15.9-201.fc42.x86_64)
  • coolercontrol-2.2.2-1.fc42 (installed via COPR repo of the maintainer codifryed/CoolerControl)

Can anyone share their system/setup and see if they get the ultra textures setting in Diablo 4?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 1:57pm

I need some help from the community. I'm trying to get the ultra textures setting in Diablo 4, which I don't get because I think the OS is only reporting 31GiB of RAM. 32GB is a requirement.

So for anyone playing Diablo 4 on Linux: what RAM size is reported with fastfetch ? And do you get the ultra textures setting? Disabling the iGPU doesn't help.

I'm running Bazzite Gnome and cannot find anyone reporting the issue on the web. I get the setting on Windows so I do meet the hardware requirements.

Is there a way to play EA FC on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 1:45pm

I'm doing a setup currently on a laptop, but if linux will run great I'd probably end up switching. I have an issue, though. I like Battlefield and EA FC, but heard various stories of it not being playable due because kernel can't run or something on Linux.

Can you help me give me a more clear answer here?

How do I run Proton games with integrated graphics?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 12:11pm

Hi all!
I have an Intel + Nvidia laptop running Ubuntu 25.04, Gnome, deb version of Steam - default stuff.

Can you help me with running light games on the iGPU and heavy games on the dGPU?
I'm ok manually selecting it game-by-game, but Steam and Proton kind of ignore my selections.

I can reliably choose the GPU when launching non-Steam apps (many methods work).
On Steam it gets a little complicated...

Steam itself launches on dGPU by default and subsequently launches all games on dGPU.
I managed to change this behavior by launching Steam on iGPU. This way, my native Linux games automatically select the correct GPU (light integrated, heavy dedicated)

But Windows (Proton) games run on the dGPU no matter what I do...
Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

Weird performance issue in games that are locked at 60fps with higher refresh rate on my monitor

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 10:46am

Currently on Pop!_OS 22.04

Noticed this in Tekken at first, and now also in Street Fighter. Fighting games are locked to 60fps, i run a 144hz monitor and i notice that when my refresh rate is at 144hz on my monitor the games feels... sluggish kinda? It's very hard to explain but it's like when you're used to 60fps and you see a game in 30fps, there's a very noticeable difference, it's kinda like that.

If i however lower my refresh rate on the monitor to 60hz there's absolutely no issues at all. I don't only play fighting games, i do play some CS and similar sometimes so i don't want to switch between refresh rates like this all the time. Anyone know what the issue could be?

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600
GPU AMD RX 7700 XT
32GB of ram

Edit: I think the easiest way to describe this is that fighting games are treating my monitor as a 60hz monitor when ran at higher refresh rate, making the games feeling "sluggish" i guess.

Wrmsr operation not permitted

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 10:27am

Good morning, I installed Fedora in dual boot on an Acer nitro 5, but the latter slows down from time to time with a 200Mhz CPU. The problem (unfortunately known) is that the motherboard sends a false signal which causes the CPU to throttle, the computer does not overheat. I would need to disable the Prochot signal. I load the MSR kernel module, read in 0x1FC, then run wrmsr with a new value.

That's when he says "operation not permitted". I disabled SELinux temporarily, but I cannot disable secure-boot.

Do I have to sign the MSR module? Some people talk about allowing MSR writing in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX /etc/default/grub?

Or is there another solution?

Thank you and have a nice day

Since I was developing a co-op Paddle game, THIS WAS A MUST.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 16 Aug 2025 - 10:08am

I decided to create a Physics based chaotic co-op paddle game called Paddle Together.

Since I had this opportunity to "Aura Farm" I had to take it.

I just announced the Steam page and now the game looks even better (this was an old footage).

If you want to check it out:
