Has anyone had any luck with running resident evil 1? I'm getting into an issue where the game crashes due to cutscenes being some kind of format
Should I switch to Linux?
Currently using windows 11 enterprise LTSC.. Although I'm worried about how much data microsoft takes from me without my knowledge. I'm thinking to switch to linux but, I've had very bad experience in the past with linux due to my old hardware I had which caused bad driver support..
I mainly use windows for gaming on my pc that's all. Don't plan on using anything else as of rn.. Also I play a few games so it might be easier to me on linux? Idk, I'll list down my laptop specifications which I use to play games aswell as the games..
Valorant (this wouldn't run and I'm fine with it) Bloodstrike (by netease games I need this to run) Kovaaks (This is what I mostly play and I need this to run) Minecraft 1.8 ( this will run cause opengl.)
Let me know which distros are good for me.
And how do I make these games run.
My laptop specifications.
Ryzen 5 5625u
16gb ddr4 (single channel)
vega 7 (apu)
512 ssd..
No idea if vega7 has good driver support on linux and if I'll have performance impact or no comparing to windows.
Any help will be appreciated

Scaling mouse sensitivity
Does anyone know of a tool/environment variable I can use to scale the mouse sensitivity that goes into a steam game (we can assume Proton is involved)? Some games have really dumb sensitivity options (like integer sensitivities where the sweet spot is a really low number and a 1 point change is a lot).

Need for Speed Pro Street and Need for Speed Underground 2 doesn't launch.
Hi I'm unable to launcher these 2 games (planning on test it on Most Wanted and Carbon too) in Bottles (not the flatpak version).
Used Proton GE 7.30 because I heard the latest Proton GE didnt work at all. Running CachyOS on my PC.
What caused the issue? Because few months ago it its able to run pro street, then I left my pc for months (and then updating them). Already remaking the prefix from scratch but still doest work.

Counter-Strike 2 - message and time+date texts using blackletter for some reason
I don't know if anyone is having this problem, but after a long time without playing CS:2 I noticed this yesterday. I'm unsure if I'm missing a font in my system or what.
Fedora 43 KDE, RPM Fusion Steam.

Assertion Failed: vkallocatememory
I'm trying to play Witchfire on my PC but the game crashes constantly after around 20-30 minutes of play time.
Here's the error that pops up and here are my specs:
OS: Fedora GNOME
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H (12) @ 4.50 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti
RAM: 16 GB
Proton versions I've tried:
Proton 10.0-4
Proton Experimental
Proton GE-32
The error seems to be some sort of memory leak but I can't identify what's causing it and there's nobody on protondb that's reporting the same issue so it's kinda driving me crazy. For reference I just played Resident Evil Requiem on the same setup at stable 60 FPS and it was an extremely smooth experience, so I know it's not my PC. Any help would be appreciated.

Planning on buying a gaming laptop (Zephyrus G14 w/ 32GB RAM and 5060) and Dual Booting. Need Help!
I hate Winbloat like any other Linux user. However some games need me to use it. Sad story but I won’t stop playing for the time being.
I use NixOS in my desktop, happy and stuff. I was wondering about the state of gaming laptops on Linux. I have some doubts before it, just to paint the picture on how hard it will be…
- I heard the double GPU management was hell. What are some keypoints to fix that? Is there something specific I need?
- How is power management like? Are there any packages that can help with it? How is battery life compared to Windows under optimal conditions?
- How are NVIDIA drivers currently? My desktop uses AMD only so Mesa was all I needed. How is the performance loss nowadays?
- Are there some other considerations I have not yet mentioned?
I appreciate any and all comments… thank you very much!

The Division 2 (Steam) launches Ubisoft Connect with "Connection Lost"
Steam launches with Ubisoft Connect but I get "Connection Lost" from Ubisoft Launcher. Can't log in
I have already tried the MTU fix inside a Linux Terminal.
CachyOS
7900 XTX on latest mesa driver
Tried various proton versions, GE Proton, CachOS Proton and Proton Experimental and 9.0
Any ideas?
Tried all the fixes here
Edit: Fixed it by connecting to a VPN first as suggested here

Minecraft Story Mode Season 1 and 2 working 100% on Arch linux and Ubuntu.
It's not a port, it's playable via a MSM Launcher running on Proton. In the pictures I was running on a Arch Distro, but I already tested on Ubuntu and it worked too. Here's a simple guide:
1-Install the MSM-Launcher.zip in the recent releases in https://github.com/eman225511/MCSM-Launcher/releases/tag/1.1
2-Open your file explorer and extract the .zip folder.
3-Open your steam, then click on "Add a game" in the right down corner of the steam window, then click on "Add a Non-Steam Game", and in the window that appear click on "Browse...", find where you extracted the .zip file, open it, and select the launcher.exe, then click on "Add Selected Programs" on the on the steam tab.
4-After you clicked "Add Selected Programs" on the Add a non-steam game window, go to your library, then search launcher.exe, when you see it, click with the left click on it, and then click in properties, and then click on Compatibility, activate the "Forcethe use of a specific steam play compatibility tool", then choose "Proton Experimental" on the box that will appear below it, then you can close the window and launch the game.
5-In the launcher, click on the season you want to play, then click on "Download from archive.org" and "yes" to the next window that appear. You will need to wait until the download is done (for me it took 1 hour to download)
6-When the install is done, click on Play, and enjoy your game!

Looking for a specific Game launcher
There are many options, but none of them can automatically add multiple games from one folder, so I have to do it manually. Any suggestions

Alt + tab = frozen screen
I use Linux Mint, and when I press Alt + Tab (or even when I don’t), my game freezes and only comes back temporarily if I press Alt + Tab again — which doesn’t really help because a few seconds later it freezes again. I’ve noticed this especially while playing DayZ, using Proton 9.0-4 through Steam, and I really don’t know what’s causing it or how to fix it.

WineD3D is outperforming DXVK on my Intel iGPU (CachyOS)
Yo everyone,
I’ve been testing some stuff on CachyOS lately and I’m seeing something that honestly makes no sense based on everything I’ve read online.
I’m running Silksong (720p) through Lutris/Heroic using cachy-proton-slr, and here’s the Thing:
- WineD3D: I’m getting a solid 80-90 FPS. 'THE FPS FREAKIN' DROPPED CUZ I TOOK THE SCREENSHOT'
MangoHUD didn't work so i used this ugly thing
- DXVK: It struggling around 60-70 FPS. 'ALSO DROPPED A BIT'
Isn’t DXVK supposed to be the "holy grail" for Linux gaming? Is it normal for WineD3D to absolutely smoke it like this, or is something broken in my config?
Also, another weird thing—my GPU usage is sitting around 70-75% on Linux!
Back when I was on Windows 11, it was pinned at 95-100% and I was getting like 120 FPS at 720p.
Why is the GPU "chilling" on Linux while giving me these frames? Am I missing a setting or is this just how it is?

CS2 Hard Locking Within 10 Minutes
Not entirely sure what's causing this issue but the game will randomly freeze up shortly after starting the game. Once I freeze, I can't alt+tab nor alt+f4. I end up just forcing my laptop to shut off. I imagine the trigger is too many entities since joining a workshop aim training map worked some times but I'd join a match and would soon freeze up anyways.
System
- Distro: Linux Mint 22.3 Zena
- Kernel: 6.8.0-106-generic
- CPU: Intel Core i7-10750H
- GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile / Max-Q
- GPU Driver: 590.48.01 (Was on 580.126.09 might revert)
The compatibility would sometimes even pop-up an anti-cheat message when trying to join matchmaking. I used GE-Proton10-32, sniper, and 10.0-4. I have tried reinstalling, changing driver versions, verifying integrity, and many random solutions googling kept giving me hope for. I did use "> ~/cs2out.log 2> ~/cs2err.log" to create these ( https://pastebin.com/AG0FYrRS and https://pastebin.com/S0DPwFfS ) hoping that something within them would help but I couldn't spot anything specific. I did also hope the proton log would work but I believe that file gets created after the game closes but I have to force shut down so that never happens.
Other games do work. Played KCD2 for a couple hours last night and it ran as normal.

Prebuilt Gaming PC Manufacturers?
Hi all. Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer for a Linux gaming PC? I tried System 76 but had a bad experience and am looking for an alternative with my refund. I'd prefer something built specifically for Linux, but compatibility and the ability to customize are all I need. Thanks!

Can't play vrchat
Hello everyone, I used to play vrchat on steam using proton-experimental until a few weeks ago. Everything was working fine until today I try to play again and the game doesn't even launch. I tried reinstalling it and using different proton versions available on protonplus, but I get weird artifacts on my vr screens while the game looks fine on my monitor.
Please help me, I don't know how to fix this
Here are some specs you may find useful Cpu: Intel Core i9 11900kf Gpu: AMD Radeon rx 7900xt (20GB) Ram: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz VR: meta quest 3 (connect via cable using wivrn, as always) OS: cachyos (everything up to date)

NVIDIA PRIME offloading + GPU passthrough (no reboot) + Looking Glass setup
We have been messing around with a setup that combines NVIDIA PRIME offloading + VFIO passthrough + Looking Glass, and it ended up working better than I expected.
Current setup:
- Linux runs on AMD dGPU / iGPU by default
- NVIDIA GPU is used on-demand via PRIME (no monitor switching)
- Can start a Windows VM with full GPU passthrough without rebooting
- Looking Glass handles display (high refresh rate, clipboard, etc.)
Performance hit is small (~5% vs bare metal) and latency feels basically the same.
Main idea is dynamically rebinding the NVIDIA GPU between host and VM instead of dedicating it to one.

Do you remember Piper? Well I made a new one
So, sometime ago after I was fired from my previous job I was messing around trying to port Piper to GTK4, however there were some constraints that annoyed me. Specially with Cambalache, which was the tool I was using for the UI. So I decided to experiment and, looking at the current design trends that a lot of software is following, I decided to rewrite the whole frontend for libratbag from scratch. I chose Tauri + Svelte for the new stack, specially since I'm also moving from Python to improve myself in Rust, which Tauri's backend side gave me a practical excuse to do. I called the app Twister, keeping the rodent naming thread that libratbag and Piper previously had going.
Svelte is pretty straightforward if you have some experience in webdev, and it made my development significantly easier. The project that began at the end of last year very very very slowly went so fast that I feel finally comfortable sharing it with you guys.
Being a Tauri application it does not follow server-side decorations (It pains me since I'm a GNOME simp) but the WebView layer makes that boundary hard to cross without abandoning the stack entirely, so it was a deliberate compromise in exchange for getting a modern-looking app that behaves like most of the better aspects of Windows configuration tools do. The mouse visual representations are currently borrowed from Piper's assets under their original license. It does have some rough edges, specially around the light theme and those visuals, and I'm looking to improve both in the near future.
Right now it is English only, however I'll begin adding localization to Portuguese and Italian in the next two weeks and I genuinely welcome contributions, specially since I'm focused on trying to get a job and the time I had is being gradually swallowed up by exhaustion in side jobs. Hopefully ya'll will like it. Any feedback is welcome.
