First of all, I guess it's important to point out that English isn't my native language and I don't have much experience writing more than a couple sentences in it. So don't judge me too harshly for any awkward phrasing.

The thing is I wanted to play dark souls 3 with Cinders mod and couldn't find any up to date guide on how to make it work not on windows.

There's mention on the nexus page for 1.15.0 version of the game. But it doesn't work with the last 1.15.2 version. There was an .exe file before. Now the modded game starts with .bat file. I had to tinker with it myself. And after some problems and mistakes it actually works. And unexpectedly it's easy to do.

Now I figured I'd share my steps for anyone searching for a solution in the future. Maybe it's obvious to some, but it definitely wasn't for me. I don't know if this is the right way to do it. So if there's room for improvement, write a comment how and I'll pin it or something.

Here's what I did in the end:

- Create a clean vanilla save before installing Cinders. Run the game once, create a character and quit if you haven't already.

- Download "Cinders - 2.15 - Main", "Cinders - 2.15 - Models" and "Cinders - Setup for 1.15.2" from mod page on nexus.

- Extract all three .zip files in the game folder ".../steamapps/common/DARK SOULS III/Game/".

It looks like this after extraction.

- Open in text editor the "config_darksouls3.toml" and change in "[extension.scylla_hide]" the string "enabled = true" to "enabled = false".

- In the steam "Add a Game" -> "Add a Non-Steam Game..." -> "Browse..." -> choose the "modengine2_launcher.exe" in the game folder -> `Add Selected Programs`.

- In the properties of just added game choose compatibility "Proton Experimental". It's important because for some unknown for me reason with last GE proton game crashed after character creation.

- Right after launching the game for the first time go to "system" settings and change "launch setting" to "play offline" and then restart the game. (In my case the game started online first time and I guess if you play with mod online, you can get your account banned)

That's it. The game works perfectly. At least for me.

Wondering if anyone has played around with connecting a steam library on a dual boot computer between Windows and Linux? I have played around with this a bit but I can't get both versions of steam to recognize the games. Any tips?

I've been playing WoW on CachyOS for a few months and only recently (about 2-3 days ago) started having issues where my game will just freeze and become unresponsive.

I thought at first it could be an issue with my addons, so i disabled all of them. No luck, game would still freeze during combat.

Then i switched back to Proton-GE 32, which i had been using for a while. No luck.

The only thing that makes my game stay stable is switching to DirectX11 API in the in-game settings.

i was able to get this information from the terminal after of one the freezes:

I looked this up and apparently the current nvidia drivers are just borked and causing this VRAM related hang-up?

do i just wait for a driver update or is there anything i can do to fix this?

Hey guys!

So ive recently installed Star wars jedi survivor and nlw experience the problem that with proton cachyos (the 20260320 version) it loads the game and the ea store but since yesterday it only loads the lowest lod of all objects and over a very long time it might increase. Has anyone a idea why that is so?

Hello, I am trying to figure out why Cyberpunk stopped working. I am playing on linux, specifically bazzite. I had game working with mods and played over 20 hours with no issues. However today I am hitting play on steam and nothing happens, just says launching then back to play. I tried using different proton layers, tried restarting pc, tried reinstalling the vcredist and d3dcompiler, nothing seems to work. Doesn't even get to the launcher. Any idea what happened? Don't think it would be the mods since it doesn't even make it to launcher...

I was using kernel 7.0rc2, and everything was fine. Then I updated the kernel to 7.0rc3, and games stopped working. I installed the CachyOS kernel, but it was also updated today, and games stopped working. I think the problem is with the NTFS driver. I need help.

Last year I switched from Windows to Linux Mint and overall, its been good, however I get errors all the time and I have to scour Google for guides on modding games. I am thinking of switching to Bazzite as I see more guides for installing on steam deck than mint. I'm kind of getting tired of hitting my head on a wall trying to get things working.

okay so i want to keep it short so here are my specs of my laptop:-
intel pentium n3710 - cpu
intel HD 405 - GPU
4gb ddr3l 1600mhz - ram
1tb hdd 5400rpm - storage

so the problem is that my GPU doesnt support dxvk as it requires vulkan 1.1 minimum and my GPU supports vulkan 1.0. so i cannot use dxvk so i cannot play games with proton, i can use WINE but its slow, like really slow...
i need help on this, is there a way out? or i might need to switch to windows for gaming (i dont want to.)
