Steelseries GG / Sonar on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 13:36

Hello! So new to Linux, and I would like to know if there is any way of using the Sonar on Linux?

Mostly to egalize the sound and to control the Discord/Game balance from my headset.

I’ve seen some GitHub stuff about making older Steelseries headset works, but mine is the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless and I wonder if it’s even possible to use it on Linux.

So I’m open to alternatives software and method for installing Sonar!

Edit: I’m using Nobara

A few questions

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 13:09

I'm thinking about switching to linux soon, and I want to know if these issues that happen frequently on windows happen on linux too:

1)Running applications in fullscreen rearranging your desktop shortcuts

2)3rd party app Hotkeys not working in some applications For example, ahk/winamp hotkeys not working when playing skyrim.

If there are other similar issues, please let me know.

8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller on CachyOS not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 12:23

I feel I am going insane. Everyone tells me "it just works out of the box". But it just doesn't! Dongle in the Dock, dock connected via USB to PC? Nothing. Dongle in PC? Nothing, My Cachy doesnt recognize something is connected at all with these. It is the same port I used to install CachyOS. Pulling my hair out.

Performance drops in regular intervals

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 12:06

Hi, hope all is well!

I've been running into an issue during gameplay where my FPS drops dramatically, from around 60–120 down to 10–15, for about 15-30 seconds at a time. These drops happen at seemingly random intervals, and mostly in demanding games (Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Dead by Daylight, Yakuza Kiwami 2). Lighter games like Yakuza 3 or most indie games are more than fine.

Htop didnt show any spikes, temps are fine, drivers are up-to-date, different Proton versions didnt change anything, also tried with minimal bg processes. My hardware should be more than capable of handling these games, so I’m surprised by these extreme drops.

Has anyone else experienced something similar, or have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this further? My specs are below, please lmk if I should provide any other stats. Thanks in advance!

OS: Fedora Linux 41 (KDE Plasma)
KERNEL: 6.13.8-200.fc41.x86_64
CPU: 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU
GPU DRIVER: NVIDIA 570.133.07
RAM: 32 GB

Can't run evdevhook2 without root, instructions are vague

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 11:25

The title says it all. I recently got a DualSense controller and want to utilize its motion controls, so I installed evdevhook2.

However, it doesn't work without root and the program itself recommends creating an "appropriate udev rule" or adding the user to a "correct group"

I've installed game-devices-udev through the AUR to see if that would fix it, to no luck. Any help is appreciated!

Besides ESC none of the Keyboard Keys work

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 10:43

I recently updated the nvidia drivers to play Jedi Survivor (wouldn't run on the previous nvidia versions) and the keyboard stopped working on some recent games.

The ones I have verified to not work anymore are
- Baldur's Gate 3
- Smite 2 (not Smite 1 funnily keyboard still works there)
- Total War Three Kingdoms

My gamepad and mouse and ESC key still function as intended.

On some older games, like Smite 1 and Risk of Rain 2, keyboard seems to work correctly.

My System:

OS: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) x86_64 Kernel: 6.1.0-32-amd64 DE: GNOME 43.9 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (16) @ 3.700GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 RAM: 32GB Nvidia Drivers : 570.124.04

Any idea for how to fix this? Or am I stuck in playing games only on a gamepad now?

Lutris games FPS locked to half of monitor's Hz in Lutris games, but not on Steam games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 10:19

Hello, hello!

I've been trying to troubleshoot this one for a few days, but so far no luck.

The problem: my system seems very confused about how to work with the GPU on games launched via Lutris. I use Proton-GE (latest) usually.

I'll use 5 games to showcase the issue:

  • Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew
  • DOOM (2016)
  • Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed
  • Metro 2033 Redux
  • Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition

Shadow Gambit works perfect as is. I get constant 100+FPS with or without Gamescope.

Both DOOM and Epic Mickey lock themselves at 37 FPS, which is half of my monitor's refresh rate (75Hz).

Here's where the headaches start.

DOOM runs at 37 FPS with around 25% GPU usage; except if I go into GNOME Overview, then I see the FPS jump to almost 200 (which is around what I should be getting with my rig), and GPU usage with it.

The behavior seems to happen in general when the window itself is not focused (e.g. when I use GNOME Screenshots and it goes back to DOOM's main window, it briefly jumpst to 160+ FPS). Gamescope does not help with the problem at all.

Epic Mickey runs locked at 37 FPS even in GNOME overview. But with Gamescope I can get it running at 60 FPS. Also, it has low GPU usage just like DOOM.

At first I thought it was my GPU (Intel Arc B580), which I am aware has incomplete support. But Metro 2033 Redux launched from Steam works perfectly, 130+FPS with everything maxed.

Age of Empires II (also from Steam) runs at constant 125 FPS.

There's an extra caveat. Epic Mickey was running at 75 FPS just fine last week.

System specs:

Vulkan support: YES
Esync support: YES
Fsync support: YES
Wine installed: YES
Gamescope: YES
Mangohud: YES
Gamemode: YES
Steam: YES
In Flatpak: NO
[System]
OS: Fedora Linux 42 Workstation Edition Prerelease
Arch: x86_64
Kernel: 6.14.0-63.fc42.x86_64
Lutris Version: 0.5.19
Desktop: GNOME
Display Server: wayland
[CPU]
Vendor: AuthenticAMD
Model: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8-Core Processor
Physical cores: 8
Logical cores: 16
[Memory]
RAM: 31.3 GB
Swap: 8.0 GB
[Graphics]
Vendor: Intel
OpenGL Renderer: Mesa Intel(R) Graphics (BMG G21)
OpenGL Version: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 25.0.2
OpenGL Core: 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 25.0.2
OpenGL ES: OpenGL ES 3.2 Mesa 25.0.2
Vulkan Version: 1.4.304
Vulkan Drivers: Intel(R) Graphics (BMG G21) (1.4.305)

Things I've tried:

  1. Lowering the graphical settings, just in case. But no, the 37 FPS lock stays in place even with a resolution of 1280x720.
  2. Different runners (The default WINE GE, Steam's own Proton version, Proton-umu).
  3. Added DOOM as a non-Steam game to Steam.
  4. Disabled VSync.
  5. Both OpenGL and Vulkan rendering.
  6. Made sure my system is in Performance mode, not in Power Saving mode.

Any ideas?

CachyOS, Bazzite or another one ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 10:08

Hi everyone !

I'm currently doing some testing using dual boot with the objective to get rid of Windows completely.

So far I have tested Garuda Linux and CachyOS. I'm really happy with CachyOS but I have seen lot of people speaking about Bazzite.

Is there any big difference between the two ? Or would you recommend another distrib?

I use it equally for gaming and usual browsing/desktop usage.

Does the distro matter?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 07:29

Hi I want to switch from Windows to linux fully the only thing holding me back is gaming.

I already have fedora as dual boot and I am very unhappy with it because my Audio just doesn't work and I cam't figure it out.

Does the distro matter if I am comfrtable with the terminal?

Are there aome distros which are just better for gaming and or nvidia cards than others?

I wanted to try Arch with gnome but i am not sure for gaming.

Also i will need to redownload all my games in steam right?

SDR brightness slider and HDR gaming KDE

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 02. April 2025 - 06:25

Im playing Silent Hill 2 remake on Cachy os with an RX 7900xt on an LG 27GS95QE. Im using the launch command :

DXVK_HDR=1 gamescope game-performance -f -W 2560 -H 1440 --hdr-enabled --force-grab-cursor --hdr-debug-force-output -- %command%

This gives me what looks like proper HDR. What confuses me is that the sdr brightness slider that is sitting at 275 has an effect on my HDR content. It goes up to 600 nits but maxxing this out makes my HDR look really bright. Could be because this is within gamescope? Should i ignore?
