Black Screen crashes while PC is still running

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Januar 2025 - 00:34

This has been bugging me for two weeks now, trying to figure out how to fix it. Marvel Rivals has been crashing during game, training and even the main menu for absolutely no reason, no audio and video but PC remains running, I even check the steam mobile that it says I'm still in the game. This been happening in both Windows and Linux (EndeavourOS)

Specs are:
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU: Radeon RX XFX 7600 XT (8 pins x 2 PCIE Connectors)
Ram: 16gb
PSU: Corsair Rm750e

I havent experience crashes with other games as frequent compare to Marvel Rivals, Fortnite did not crashed on ultra setting with performance mode and DX11 but DX12 does the same blackscreen crash. I dont want to this to continue because I'm getting penalized with temporary crash. Ive seen so many post with the same issue, check the specs, change the launch option, tested protons, overclock and underclock gpu, and so much more.

I love and enjoy this game, but these crashes to then get temporary bans gives me anxiety each time I want to play. If there is anyone who dealt the same issue and have resolved it, please let me know, much appreciated.

Help with Bazzite igpu display?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Januar 2025 - 00:29

I have an rx6800 which both monitors work, and the third display is on my iGPU and it doesn’t work. The display manager doesn’t see it at all. I swapped the monitors around and they all work from the 6800 but not the 7600x iGPU, which was working just fine in Windows. Any ideas? A google search didn’t help

Two hdmi monitors One DP monitor

HDMI on iGPU, HDMI on dGPU

Xrandr doesn’t show the iGPU display.

EDIT: when I enabled CSM to see the usb to boot bazzite from it removed iGPU from motherboard options. I found no mentions of this anywhere, and am not sure what CSM has to do with igpus, but I figured it may help someone out in the future to leave this up.

Can Microsoft Screw Up Linux Gaming if they wanted to?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. Januar 2025 - 00:25

So this post is meant to be a discussion if Microsoft can if they want to Make Proton/Wine Obsolete if they ever needed to. so my line of thought is can Microsoft introduce some new APIs in DX14 or whatever new version that may come up and make it very hard for Proton devs to translate it to Vulkan? Because from my understanding is that Proton is a translation layer between Windows system calls and Linux system calls. So can they theoretically make the APIs in a way that's very Windows Specific and possibly can't be translated to linux. I am a developer myself and my intuition is yes Microsoft can make it hard but not impossible, but I feel If I don't know the inner working of stuff like proton I can't really say anything for sure(It would be great if a proton dev is here and could answer that.

One thing for sure is all the games that works now will continue working no doubt about that. But the concerns come as Linux grow more and more in popularity in gaming. Microsoft may act defensively and start making it very hard on Proton devs.

Microsoft in recent years though have playing it cool with Linux in recent years and open source community in general but Microsoft is still Microsoft and I feel if they ever feel a danger of their big market share of gamers starts to decline they may be compelled to just screw up Linux.

BTW This is all hypothetical and I don't know if it's true and hoping for some input from the community and possibly some answers if someone knows the technicalities of translations layers like Proton and WINE.

How to improve iGPU HD 520 on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 21:45

I have been partaking in some light gaming during this season, being my humble device of modest capabilities. Yet, I chanced upon a video of a gentleman playing Dota 2 with comparable specs, and he experienced no issues. This struck me with great surprise, for I cannot even access the main menu without encountering severe drop of frames. The 3D models of the heroes do not load in the 'heroes' section of the main menu, the experience is sluggish, often falling short of the desired 30 frames per second. I am unable, by the life of mine, to commence a match with other bloodthirsty gentlemen as myself.

My humble laptop's specs:

OS: Void x86_64
Host: 80TL (Lenovo V110-15ISK)
Kernel: Linux 6.12.8_1
Display (AUO71EC): 1024x768 @ 60 Hz in 15"
WM: i3 (X11)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6006U (4) @ 2.00 GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520 @ 0.90 GHz [Integrated]
Memory: 1.57 GiB / 3.63 GiB
Swap: 0 B / 8.00 GiB

I also have the following packages installed:

linux-firmware-intel
intel-video-accel
libva-intel-driver-2.4.1_1
mesa-vulkan-intel-24.2.8_2
mesa-vulkan-intel-32bit-24.2.8_2
mesa-24.2.8_2
mesa-32bit-24.2.8_2
mesa-intel-dri-24.2.8_2
vulkan-loader-1.3.261.1_2
vulkan-loader-32bit-1.3.261.1_2
xf86-video-intel-2.99.917.20210115_2

I have also attempted to utilize gamemoderun (with it installed, indeed), but to no avail. My system is updated to the latest version and has been restarted. At this point, I am uncertain of any further steps to improve the performance of my integrated GPU.

It is worth noting that, while my device has 4 GB of RAM, unlike the video, I would like to make aware to the reader, that Dota 2 has a minimum requirement of 4 GB of RAM.

Any guidance or suggestions to enhance my gaming experience would be greatly appreciated.

MSFS 2024 doesn't launch at all with Nvidia GPU

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 21:13

On protondb, people seem to be able to play the game with AMD cards, and some people with Nvidia cards are apparently having their games crash when they touch the ground, but I'm completely unable to open the game in the first place. I click "Play" on Steam, it says "Stop" for 2 seconds and then goes back to "Play" again.

I've switched to Proton Experimental and set it to bleeding-edge, tried multiple launch options, but I can't get the game to launch. It used to launch before, but would not get past the initial loading screen with an assertion error, but ever since I've switched to bleeding-edge on Proton Experimental it doesn't launch at all anymore. I'm on the latest drivers and latest kernel.

System info:
Arch Linux, kernel 6.12.8-arch1-1, using Wayland
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU (driver version 565.77)

Steam Stream Gaming on Asus Ubuntu Laptop

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 21:10

Don’t know if this is old news or not, but just thought that it was interesting that this is possible. I know Ubuntu is definitely not the first Linux OS people think of for gaming. Anyway I have Ubuntu on this ex work laptop that I use for non gaming purposes, basically just my main laptop and one day I was craving to play Spiderman on the couch in front of the tv and it occurred to me what if I can stream from my gaming PC in my office to this Ubuntu laptop, and connect to TV with HDMI. It works! A bit clunky but even the Xbox Bluetooth controller works right away I didn’t have to add any additional drivers. The main issue is that I can’t turn on big picture mode unless Steam is already opened and not minimized but I bet I can make some adjustments to fix that. Also my wifi can be a bit shotty on the laptop I imagine the drivers for Ubuntu WiFi just don’t mesh with the WiFi card in the laptop that well so maybe I need to upgrade it..

Will my hardware run good with Linux based distros?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 19:44

Hello, I'm buying a new PC, but I need to know if will Linux based distros fully support it or not. I know "every distro is a distro", however there are all based on Linux and will most likely run on the same kernel and use the same drivers.

PC specs:

  • 32gb ddr4 3200mhz
  • Ryzen 7 5700x
  • Rtx 4060 8gb
  • Water-cooling (if it matters)

My use is YouTube, office working and C/C++ programming for embedded systems (pic, Atmega, Esp32 MCUs, etc...).... Eventually I'm willing to play some games, like Tux Kart. I'm considering to install Linux Mint.

Is it powerful enough? Will it run great in this hardware? Thank you

Which Linux OS would be the best for a first time Linux user?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 18:03

Hello,

I've been looking at switching over from Windows to some sort of Linux OS for a while now, and I'm at an impasse as to what OS would be best for me. I've heard very good things about Linux Mint and Ubuntu, but I've also heard that POP_OS is best for pcs with Nvidia graphics card, which is what I currently possess.

Thank you for any advice you could give me!

Know Any Alternatives to Parsec and how to set it up?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 18:01

Hello, I've been dual booting with W10 and Arch Linux. Mostly the reason to dual boot is that I play with my gf and some friends Ryujinx or other emulators, so I use two headphones on my computer one for me and other for my gf using voicemeeter, and then parsec to connect my other friends.

Is there a way to do this on Linux? I am tired of rebooting my computer just for this reason, I saw moonlight but idk if this would work and have no clue how to set it up. Also some help to set up two headphones on Linux. Thanks in advance!

is there a way to make steam on linux automatically apply proton to all windows only games without requiring me to manually change it for each individual game?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 17:39

Proton is great, but it is pretty tiresome to have to manually go into each game's individual setting and configure it to use proton hotfix for every single windows game individually.

Is there a way to tell steam to just use proton compatibility mode by default for all windows games?

Help needed with Black Myth Wukong

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 17:05

Hello people! I bought Black Myth Wukong, and it worked great for about 3 hours in game time. I put the game down for some time and when I come back to it, it refuses to launch. No matter what version of proton I use the game wont launch. The only version that made any progress was Proton 8.0-5. When using that the game opens to a black screen and does nothing else. I have included a screenshot of what the game looks like that the output from running steam from my terminal. I am using the Flatpak version of Steam. My system specs are:

Fedora Linux 40 with KDE Plasma

i9-13900k

64gb ram

RX 6700XT

Z790 AORUS ELITE AX motherboard

I have googled around a lot and have not found a solution that works, despite trying all sorts of different launch options. If anyone could help me figure out this issue it would be much appreciated!

FSR 4 concerns

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 16:59

I feel that I'm the only one worried about FSR 4 being closed source and only for RDNA 4.

Why does no one talk about it? Maybe I just don't understand something but doesn't it mean that FSR 4 won't be available on RadV driver? DLSS is available on Linux only in their closed source drivers. Wouldn't it be the same for AMD now?

I wonder what is causing those stutters

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 16:26

https://reddit.com/link/1hwmplf/video/mttwmnsjfsbe1/player

I wonder what is causing those stutters. I have GPU passthrough and cpu passthrough profile for my guest VM.

From the performance monoitor, you can see those weird usage peaks when running, but the task manager only reports less than 30% utilization for CPU. I think something is causing CPU to "lag".
