YEP, I GIVE UP.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2025 - 16:00

This post isn't even gaming on Linux, this post is about gaming on Windows.
Almost every single title I wanna play REQUIRES secure boot enabled in order to launch.
Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 6, Faceit (CS2), Valorant and as I heard Call of Duty is planning to force "secure boot" in order to play it in the future.
And no I'm not going to wipe Linux (because 90% of my work is there) but it's really annoying that I just simply can't enjoy games on WINDOWS after long day of work.
Is it "really" powerful way to prevent prople from cheating? I heard cheats can be signed by user too. Like what's the point? We were just used to have all our games on our PC's and now I've been thinking about getting another PC or and XBOX just to play some games.
TL;DR: Fuck those games, i just gave upon playing any games anymore.
PS: I'm techy guy but won't be using secure boot enabled on Ubuntu...

Better chances for old games on Linux than on Windows?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2025 - 15:31

Hey,

I have a very old game (Counter Strike Condition Zero) that I love to play. But I don't like Steam (yes I know Steam does a lot for Linux gaming) and that's why I have the old CD version of CS:CZ.

I could not get it to work on Windows 11 and I wanted to check what you guys think if it's possible to get it to run on Linux? Or maybe someone already does and could share me some experiences?

Yes I do know that I could just use the Steam version to make life easier ;-)

Linux vs Windows: Why Some Gamers Shouldn’t Switch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2025 - 15:30

I switched from Windows and have been using Fedora 42 KDE for a while now, and honestly, I’ve really enjoyed the experience. It does everything I need, and I’ve had very few issues. But would I recommend it to everyone? Actually… no. And this hit me during a conversation with a good friend of mine.

My friend (Cole) is a big-time gamer who’s still on Windows 10. We were talking about upcoming games like Battlefield 6, security concerns, and whether it’s time to upgrade his PC. Things like sticking with AM4 and upgrading, or going all-in on AM5 and building something new. What struck me later was that at no point did I suggest he move to Linux.

Thinking about it more, I would actually suggest he didn’t.

Cole works really hard. He gets up at ridiculous hours, does a full day’s work, and when he gets home, he just wants to relax and play games. He doesn’t want to mess around with Proton versions, launch options, GameScope, or anything like that. No tech problems. No hassle. Just gaming.

Yes, we know that most games on Linux will just work. But sometimes they don’t. What if he buys a game and it doesn’t run? You could say that’s on him for not checking ProtonDB first. But should he really have to do that? If part of using Linux means researching every game before you buy it, that “just get home and play” feeling is already gone.

ProtonDB also isn’t always accurate or up to date. And the launch options some games need? It’s a rabbit hole. Then there are games that just will not run on Linux at all. You know the ones. #battlefield6

So why didn’t I recommend Linux to him? Because I think you need to be a certain kind of person to really enjoy switching from Windows to Linux. If you’re technical, curious, and don’t mind working through some problems, it can be a great experience. But if you just want to turn on your PC and jump into Battlefield or Delta Force, I hate to say it but, Windows is still the more reliable choice.

Thoughts?

Terrible performance in Overwatch 2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2025 - 15:02

Hello,

I'm running on the latest version of Linux Mint.

I've got a Ryzen 5 from 2023 and a NVIDA 1650.

Games on my computer run fine, but I haven't been able to play Overwatch; I've tried using gamemode, I've tried launching with "LD_PRELOAD="" %command%", I've tried Proton Experimental, Proton 8 and even GE-Proton 10-12.

I'm getting around 20 frames and I used to get above 140 in Windows so I'm not really sure of what's going on.

Any help is appreciated<3

New Valve's console is allegedly running Windows. Is SteamOS console even possible?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2025 - 14:25

Here is an article about rumored Valve's console running Windows 11:

https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/gaming-pcs/valves-rumoured-fremont-steamos-console-spotted-on-geekbench-running-windows-11/

It would be very sad if it's true.

But....

Is SteamOS console even possible if there is no HDMI 2.1 support on Linux on AMD hardware? Is W11 the only option for such console/gaming mini PC right now?
:(

Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon microlags with X11

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. August 2025 - 13:36

Hello, I recently installed Linux Mint on my PC and tried out some games. Unfortunately they are full of microlags. I had this issue before on Pop!_OS and I could solve this by switching to Wayland. I tried it now as well, but sadly, I cannot change the keyboard layout on Wayland and there are other issues as well, such as Steam not opening. My PC has a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU and a RX 6750XT GPU. Also, I have kisak-mesa drivers and xanmod kernel installed. Is there any solution to this problem? Thanks in advance!
