Trying to make Lutris work
I made other posts about running non steam launchers without lutris and I thank you all who have replied but unfortunately I think lutris is the most convenient when it works because it supports all the launchers I want Ubisoft, Epic, BattleNet, EA and Tarkov. I have had a fair bit of trouble with it though and I completely wiped all traces of it from my system to do a fresh start so unfortunately I cannot give logs because I didn't think of it until afterwards, I'm just wondering what is something I could try going forward.
First thing is first, do I need to install wine on my system or does lutris do that for me? I ask because installing battlenet for example got me stuck on "creating a wine prefix" so I'm wondering if it's a battlenet issue or if I am missing some wine file.
Next, I install epic games and it worked when installing but then trying to open it afterwards after installing doesn't work. The "stop" button on lutris becomes the "play" button again in a couple seconds. Again, I cannot get logs, just wondering if theres some magic file to install lol
I tried to run crysis 1 in the EA app and it started up, did a black screen and stopped basically immediately so do I have to install the game game from within the EA app itself or do I search up the game on lutris' website and install it that way? A somewhat similar issue with medal of honor pacific assault where it starts, I hear audio but it is a black screen and only "see" the game if I tab out of the game but can no longer see it again once tabbed in. Just wondering if these issues sound familiar to anyone.
Thank you all.

Controller Web Config Issue
Hey Everyone! This is a really niche issue, but maybe someone has come across this before.
I am using Bazzite and have a controller that runs on the GP2040CE firmware and I'm trying to access the web config more easily. When I plug it in with web config mode, it won't work until I go into the terminal and set ifconfig for usb0.
When I plug it in, this is what shows up in dmesg:
[486657.498783] usb 5-1.4.3.4: new full-speed USB device number 82 using xhci_hcd [486657.613814] usb 5-1.4.3.4: New USB device found, idVendor=cafe, idProduct=4028, bcdDevice= 1.01 [486657.613820] usb 5-1.4.3.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [486657.613823] usb 5-1.4.3.4: Product: TinyUSB Device [486657.613825] usb 5-1.4.3.4: Manufacturer: TinyUSB [486657.613828] usb 5-1.4.3.4: SerialNumber: 123456 [486657.701018] rndis_host 5-1.4.3.4:1.0 usb0: register 'rndis_host' at usb-0000:08:00.3-1.4.3.4, RNDIS device, 02:02:84:6a:96:00after running sudo ifconfig usb0 192.168.7.2 it runs just fine.
What is the best way to get the web config accessible automatically, without having to hit the terminal every time? The GP2040CE documentation shows an extra line showing up where the usb0 connection is renamed, but I don't know if that's relevant to it working automatically:
[ 72.498630] rndis_host 1-3:1.0 enp6s0f1u3: renamed from usb0Thanks!

How to get epic games store without lutris?
I hit download on epics website to get the installer and it doesn't install. 'm tired of Lutris not working properly so I want to try installing the launchers through Steam as a "Non Steam Game" so I need to get the launcher exe files. Does anyone know how to get the epicinstaller.exe if it doesn't let me do it through Linux directly?

Need help chosing the compatible distro for my old laptop ( Warning NOOB ALERT ⚠️)
Greetings people,
As the title says, I have an old laptop (MSI GP 62 6 QF) with gtx 960m and i76700HQ processor. I always wanted to try linux, I tried Ubuntu ( in which I faced issue with my pc not turning off, I had to force turn off everytime) then I tried Lonux Mint, which bombed as well. Then I read online somewhere which claimed that MSI laptops are not good for linux. I don't remember clearly the reason.
I am not really tech savy to know much about linux, but what I am trying is to learn. To know if there's anyway to find the proper distro that works? or if anyone already knows any distro that works?. I want to get good at linux, and now that windows is stoppong windows 10 support, I think it's best I switch to linux for good. No, I don't want to get a new laptop, as this one does meet all my basic requirements still.
Thanks for the help in advance.
PS: A distro that still lets me play league of legends will be cherry on top, hence posting in gaming sub reddit.
😊

WoW on linux
Hello! I am trying to play WoW on wine staging but the closest i get to success is the game running but i get a black screen. When i am tabbed out or have the focus on an application in front of WoW, everything seems fine until i tab back into game. Someone in game said to update drivers but all i can really find is AMD's driver on their main site which is like, a month old.
Info: Kubuntu 25.04. Wine Staging. I've tried running Lutris and Faugus with less success and get a weird non-blizzard error. Linux Kernal 6.14.0-22-generic
Let me know if you need any more information and hopefully some fixes!

Best setup with a second machine for gaming (Windows) to still be able to use the main one (Linux) without hassle?
Hey there!
We all know it, kernel-level anti-cheat renders those games unplayable for Linux. Fuck them, but that's another topic.
I'm currently using Windows 11 on my main machine because of two games - and I hate it.
I was an all-time Linux user before that and I'm missing that. I even do all my stuff on Linux VMs on that main machine. Really just these two games make me suffer through the Windows experience.
This should not be a Windows hate post, it's just not my thing.
I do have a spare 3080 lieing around here, so I could build a second gaming-only machine for this purpose.
Thing is, I'd still need 2x keyboard and 2x mouse on my desk, which would be a bit infuriating when I want to browse or do stuff on my Linux machine WHILE gaming on the second one.
So I need solutions!
Streaming from gaming→Linux is wonderfully possible, but DRM seems to limit that as well. Even if not, keyboard/mouse must be directly plugged into the gaming machine, otherwise I would fear that I'd get banned because of botting, or whatever.
I will share my thought now how I would build my setup. PLEASE RECOMMEND ME ANYTHING that would be different to my setup.
1. MonitorsMy setup is a main monitor and a second one for browsing.
I would connect main AND gaming machine to my main monitor. So I just need to switch the input on my monitor to what I need for now. A little hassle, but ok.
I'm even thinking about using a KVM for that, so while gaming, the monitor would be disconnected from my Linux machine, so that it only has one monitor (the second monitor) and not another "dead" one. My main monitor is 1440p 244Hz, so I'd need a KVM that supports that.
Some recommendations for a KVM for that?
2. only one keyboard/mouse bundleI dont want to have 2 of both of them of my desk, so now it gets a bit tricky.
I'd also want to use the KVM for that. Plug in the keyboard/mouse into the KVM, I always have it on the same machine, that will be the "main machine" whether I'm gaming or not.
I guess that shouldn't be a problem, would it? Or are KVM machines also threatened by kernel anti-cheat?
While gaming, the Windows machine would act as a Barrier/Synergy host, so I can still use the both peripherals on my Linux machine.
Having Linux as the host could be a threat to anti-cheat, I guess, so I would do it this way round.
If I finished gaming, I press the KVM to switch everything (monitor + kb/mouse) to my Linux again and that should be fine, yes?
3. Linux machine distro and thoughtsI was an Arch acolyte before my Windows time and love it - especially because of the AUR. I also grew quite acustomed to Flatpaks because of the Steam Deck (I'm not rly using anymore). So I'm also eyeing to Bazzite, just to have a low-maintenance system.
Now to add another layer of complexity: My main machine is my work laptop (a gamer one with an integrated Intel and 3070Ti graphics), BUT that would be too easy! I also use an USB4 external GPU (4070Ti) to have more power, as I will also use the Linux machine for gaming for all the cool games that dont need kernel anti-cheat.
So the question here is: Can Linux distros nowadays handle an nvidia setup with external GPU on Wayland? About 4 years ago that was an edge-case that unfortunately didn't work too well.
Is it working right now? Can they handle losing/gaining another monitor (when switching the KVM away/back)?
4. Getting the Windows audio to LinuxMy sound would be on my main Linux machine, of course. PipeWire should be my engine.
I'm sitting on my Linux machine, in pure serenity. Now I switch on my Windows system, start a game and... oh, no sound, because it's on my main machine.
How can I get my sound from Windows→Linux without latency?
I know Linux→Linux could do a PulseAudio tunnel. Did that before, latency-free (3ms or sth like that) and it worked wonderfully, pure penguin bliss.
How would I achieve that from Windows→Linux?
Final thoughtsI know I want much, just to have a hassle-free setup with Linux as my safe heaven.
My perfect workflow would be: Go home, boot up my Linux machine and watch a mind-soothing bootloader, that jumps into a penguin-perfect login manager. Unlocking with my password, just to see an eye-massaging desktop environment and using all the nice software on Linux.
Then some friend asks "you wanna play fucken League of Legends?" So I spit on my Windows machine (for cleaning purposes, of course), boot it up. I press one button on my KVM. This way, the monitor switches over to the caveman machine, Linux machine doesn't get spasms of losing one monitor. Mouse/Keyboard is now attached to the Windows machine, seemlessly being available through Barrier/Synergy on Linux as well. I can play on degenerate Windows, while still being able to access my Linux machine.
When my kernel-level anti-cheat gaming session is over, I can just shut down the all-time-mouse-focus-stealing Windows OS, press the KVM button again and then just be back on Linux Eden, not even thinking about how the other OS can fumble with my mind anymore.
Is this setup even possible? What are other problems I have to tackle?
What hardware would you recommend (especially KVM; maybe even controlable via Linux, no button press needed)? Did I miss anything?
Would you have another idea, that doesn't have much to do with mine? I'm really open for suggestions!
Disclaimer: I'd use this knowledge, of course, to create my dream setup (which means as less Windows as possible, lol). I also want to create a post with my finished setup then to help and guide others who want a similar setup.

Rematch crashes with "A D3D12-compatible GPU (Feature Level 12.0, Shader Model 6.6) is required to run the engine."
Hi, I just installed Rematch and after a bit of troubleshooting, I got it to start by installing vcrun and dotnet with protontricks. Now it starts and shows EAC loading, but I see this message:
A D3D12-compatible GPU (Feature Level 12.0, Shader Model 6.6) is required to run the engine.
Which is strange as I have a 9070 XT which should support these features. I tried running with Proton hotfix/ge/experimental but always get the same result.
What else can I try?

AMD gpu tweaking?
Hello people, i’m not really sure how to ask this cause i honestly don’t really understand the science behind it, but.. i read in multiple reddit posts that gamers tweak their gpu settings im wondering if it’s something you can do when you use linux as main OS and also my other question is, what’s the best settings for the 9070xt?

What is the easiest way to run non steam game launchers without llutris?
The title says it all, for some reason lutris makes my shutdown and reboot times take a lot longer than normal and it just feels cleaner without it.

New Steam Games Playable on the Steam Deck, with Tower Wizard - 2025-06-22 Edition
Has anyone gotten nvidia's smooth motion to work?
"NVPRESENT_ENABLE_SMOOTH_MOTION=1 %command%" doesn't work for me in a single game. I'm using fedora 42 with the latest nvidia test driver (575.64).
I noticed that steam's built-in fps counter shows double the frames. However, mangohud does not. Also, in-game benchmarks reflect mangohud's numbers.
For anyone who has gotten this working, can you confirm the increase is reflected by a benchmark? Also, what distro, desktop-env and driver are you using?

Emulating a controller with keyboard and mouse
I used to have a controller but now I don't have one. I need something to emulate it. I have 2 sets of peripherals so my secondary mouse and keyboard can become a controller.
I've found https://github.com/niehoff90/ControllerEmulator which is a 3 year old single C source file program which doesn't even have a configuration. I've managed to modify it to suit my needs but there are still problems like mouse drifting away when emulating joystick movement.
Is there anything mature and up to date for this purpose preferably with a config so I can make keymap profiles per game?

Controller not working anymore after Logitech mouse enters sleep mode
So this problem has been bugging me for over a year now and it's making me lose my mind now because I have tried for months to fix it with the help of chatGPT (which has been otherwise an incredible tool for very easy and understandable troubleshooting on Linux).
I am on the latest release of Linux Mint Cinammon version (other distros are out of question) and all my programs are up to date, as well as the FW of all my peripherals.
I use a GuliKit KK Max 3. My other peripheral that causes me quite a bit of trouble is the Logitech G305. The issue is very simple: When I am playing a videogame through Steam, and the mouse enters standby mode (after roughly 10 to 15 minutes), controller input stops working. Mouse and keyboard work as soon as I try, but controller still remains undetected by the game. Steam itself still recognizes the controller no problem, as I can navigate big picture mode even when the game isn't aware of controller input. The problem persists in no matter what input method from the GuliKit controller (S-, D-, X-Input in both BT and through Dongle). The issue doesn't occur to games outside of Steam (for example through Heroic and Emulation).
My current workaround is to turn the mouse off, then the issue doesn't occur. But obviously this completely kills usability of my pc when I am doing other stuff on second monitor while gaming. I hate this workaround, and it actually makes some games unplayable (Dark Souls 3, example given, where I need other stuff on second monitor like wikis and yt videos and keyboard navigation is much slower).
Following suggestions from GPT didn't work:
-Creating a udev rule (this doesn't seem to work, as auto-suspend still shows up as "auto" when I search for the device in the terminal)
-Turning auto-suspend off globally through GRUB (no success)
Interestingly, the issue doesn't occur in some games, like ER Nightreign, however does occur in DS1, 2, 3 and ER, all MonHun games I own on steam and many many others.
Any help I would highly appreciate, because I am genuinely kinda desperate on this one and I would really like to be able to play souls games normally again without having to worry about an issue like this.
