Aion and other games on Linux(Arch btw)
my friend and I wanted to play mmorpg aion on an unofficial server, but we can't run the exe (we tried to run it on lutris, bottles). It worked once through pronproton, but it returned the error Load error: Driver installation error(11) (General failure.). What should we do?

Steam Broadcasting not working in Wayland
Has anyone been able to get this working? Or is it flat out not available yet for wayland sessions? When i try to start a steam broadcast or someone joins it they get the error "Steam Broadcasting is not currently supported on this broadcasters system".
Apparently it does work for X11 sessions but not wayland. I tested using xwayland but it looks at the session of the entire machine and not application.
Is there any work arounds here instead of logging in as X11? Or are we just sweet out of luck until valve fixes it?
FWIW this looks to be a viable option for "screen sharing" by using steam chat as a discord replacement. Just so happens to be it doesn't like wayland linux users lmao.

Possible Tips for Switching to Linux?
Copying this from the r/linux subreddit. I figured that there might be more known from this subreddit on whether I will be bottlenecking my performance. I was told that it's probably not the best option to switch when you have high-end components, but I'd like to see how accurate that is.
Hey guys!
I'm currently a college student that studies cs, math, and quantum computing, and I was thinking to switch to Linux now since I plan to go to grad school and possibly get a PhD. I definitely need some power for my device, so unfortunately I will be going NVIDIA, and I'll be taking a gaming laptop and putting Linux on it.
The device I plan to use is the ROG Zephyrus G16 (2026) - Core Ultra 9 386H + RTX 5080
And the devices I will be using with the laptop:
- Wacom Intuous Pro Medium (2025)
- Razer Deathadder V4 Pro (8KHz Mouse)
- GMMK 3 Pro 65% (8KHz Keyboard)
- CalDigit TS4 (With a monitor, but I don't think that's important to mention)
- Stream Deck+ (willing to discard because I hear it's not a fun experience, and it's becoming more of a convenience device)
- Podmic USB (I mean it's just a microphone, but could be important to mention)
I want to be able to use my device to run virtual environments, run machine learning tasks, game, video edit, take notes, and write music.
I typically game on Steam and Epic Games. The one game I'd like to be able to play is Fortnite, but I understand that anti-cheat causes a problem here, and still own a Switch 2 I can use instead.
What do I need to know before switching to Linux? Is it worth it for me to switch given what I plan to do? What distros would be best to use?
TL;DR Want to switch to Linux. Need to know how to make everything run smoothly.

ProtonUp-GTK - Native GTK4 + Libadwaita frontend for ProtonUp (Flatpak, GPLv3)
X3Dctl beta News! Deterministic X3D mode + GPU IRQ isolation tool (Linux+AMD only)
I’ve just tagged x3dctl 0.5.0-beta, a deterministic workload policy tool for AMD X3D CPU's on Linux. I shared it not too long ago and will refrain from too frequent posts,(after this will only update on major point/feature releases) but to remind everyone who saw and those who didn't
The goal of the project is simple:
Give users explicit control over X3D mode, CCD pinning, and GPU interrupt routing. Without a daemon, polling, or automation magic.(No Systemd required). Letting users get the most out of their hardware whether it's work or play without archaic solutions like complete core-parking.
Written from scratch in C and Bash it's compatible with nearly any configuration of Linux system running Sudo. glibc and BASHv3+ being the only dependencies
What’s new in 0.5.0-beta:
- Mode-bound GPU IRQ steering
- gaming mode pins game threads to the 3D V-Cache CCD
- GPU IRQ's(interrupt requests) are steered to the frequency CCD
- Performance mode restores full IRQ distribution
- Clean separation between:
- System posture (mode)
- Per-process policy (affinity, scheduler, nice and, IO)
- Topology-aware CCD detection (no hardcoded CPU assumptions)
- Optional --no-irq flag
It may work with Steam passed like x3dctl gaming %command% but honestly I've been so busy, I haven't explicitly tested it outside of the command line while making sure everything is structurally sound.
Everything is explicit and reversible.
The current goal is refinement and full Steam launch-option integration and distro specific packaging before 1.0.0.
If anyone wants to test on X3D systems and share feedback(or GitHub Stars), that would be very useful.

New to Linux - Best 100% Gaming Distro for RX 6900 XT + Ryzen 5 5600X? (Heavy Steam use, gachas like Arknights)
Hello everyone,
I'm super new to Linux and honestly a bit lost after having a lot of frustrating crashes and black screens on Windows 11 during gaming. I decided to turn my desktop into a 100% gaming PC and leave work stuff on another machine.
My hardware is:
- Ryzen 5 5600X
- RX 6900 XT
- 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM
- Plenty of storage
I mostly play Steam games (especially The First Descendant right now), and some gacha games like Arknights through Lutris.
I tried Nobara because I heard it's good for AMD cards and comes with lots of gaming stuff pre-installed, but then I saw a post here saying it's only Tier C because Arch-based distros are supposedly much better. That made me confused and a little worried since I'm a total beginner.
I don't mind spending hours installing drivers, fixing Proton issues or compiling things. I just want something good for gaming, and good performance.
What would you recommend in early 2026 for someone like me who is starting from zero? Nobara, Bazzite, ChimeraOS, CachyOS, Garuda, or something else?
Any simple beginner advice or what to avoid would be really helpful. Thank you so much in advance – I really appreciate any help!

How to get deltarune to work on ubuntu?
Ive seen countless people claiming deltarune works with linux using proton, but ive exhausted all routes, and it seems to me as if **it really doesn't.**
Ive tried just about every single branch of proton available in steam by default, and ive even used ProtonUP to install ProtonGE as reccomended, but that doesn't work either.
When I click "play" on deltarune, it *technically works*. Steam sets my status as "playing deltarune" and it says the game is running...
but it isnt. the game isnt running. it doesn't open the game and then crash, it doesn't open it and get stuck on the loading screen- it doesn't open the game AT ALL.
Im on linux mint 22.1 cinnamon, btw.

SteamVR does not open at all despite saying it is open on steam, impossible to close without restarting PC
I've been trying to get PCVR working with Linux PopOS but SteamVR is broken. When opened manually, it asks me for superuser access, but then nothing happens. No window opens despite it saying SteamVR is running. When I try to open it through ALVR, it says its connected briefly, gives me a warning "Failed to unblock ALVR driver: /home/******/.local/share/Steam/config/steamvr.vrsettings does not exist" and disconnects shortly after. It doesn't show up in the system monitor and is impossible to close so I have to restart my PC.
I have been troubleshooting for hours and cannot find anyone who has had this issue. Help would be really appreciated!

Wuchang Fallen Feathers. Getting hung on ingame menus randomly after playing for sometime. Any fix? Anybody else?
CachyOS + KDE Plasma 6.6
RTX 4080, Driver 590, latest.
9800X3D.
16 GB DDR5.
DLSS and DLSS FG ON.
Running game on NVME SSD, where the OS is installed too.
Proton Cachy latest. (Game doesn't even launch on Proton GE 10.32, white screen on launching and have to force close)
Launch Options : PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 PROTON_DLSS_UPGRADE=1 mangohud game-performance %command%
Generally game runs good. But its randomly gets hung on ingame menus. I can replicate it after playing the game for 10 mins and opening the ingame Impetus Repository menu for upgrades and its gets hung there and have to force close. Sometimes I can play for an hour, sometimes it happens in 10 mins.
It never happens during gameplay. Game runs good and never gets hung, only in ingame menus. Its driving me mad.

DOTA 2 animation stutter/skip (4070 super / Pop_OS)
I recently built a PC for POP_OS and most games run fine, but Dota, arguably the most important one for me, had two big problems. The more important one, namely my WiFi dying system-wide when joining games was solved completely.
The secondary one is still bothering me: namely it’s animation stutter or skip. Keep in mind it’s no longer a network issue, bot lobbies suffer it to the same extent. It’s kinda like frame skip, but I’m pretty sure the frames are all rendering properly, like the camera still pans fluently, it’s just all animations seem to skip a couple of frames every once in a while. ProtonDB doesn’t have a solution. VSync and frame limiters do nothing at all. The skips happen both in locked 30 FPS and locked 160 FPS. I tried messing with fullscreen / borderless as well as the in game nvidia latency options. No effect.
I found a couple of threads on the Dota subreddit claiming that it’s just a quirk of post 7.40 patches and there is nothing to be done. As I didn’t have this PC before those patches, can’t atest to that, but I also found threads claiming that internet turning off while joining games was just a quirk of the Realtek Wi-Fi cards and all it took to fix was turning two power saving options off, so I’m sure there is a solution

Crusader Kings Three Bricks my Pc
So every few minutes I think it depends my game stutters and literally bricks my pc and I have to use the manual power button to turn it off, I can't really show the issue since if I tried to replicate It would brick my pc. This is on steam without proton. Any Ideas on how to fix this?

On the fence
Long time windows user, long time envious what Linux brings to the table.
Satire Nutella is made Windows into a subscription and ad portal. And with a local user account with no microsoft account linked, I don't see ads, not bothered by onedrive upgrades etc.
And all my games just work. With about 5% to 15% performance uplift on my 4070ti in windows.
But I want to jump ship.
Is this performance drop to be expected? I'm not seeing what youtubers are posting "Linux gaming is just better." Not in my experience. What am I doing wrong? I need ray traycing. On another playthrough of Cyberpunk and I also love VR gaming. Should I jump onto a 9070xt instead? Feels like a side step, with a hit to games like CP2077 and Indiana Jones.
I've been waiting for AMD to up their game. But they're always behind nvidia, always playing the $nvidia$ - $50 game.
Bazzite is on my mini pcs, but my nvidia rig is yet to be converted.

Internal error: Failed to expand shell folder constant "autopf"
I am currently trying to mod Skyrim on Linux Mint. Flatpak LOOT doesn't work, it doesn't even detect Skyrim despite me succesfully launching the game from Steam several times, as well as from MO2. Tried Limo, but it also doesn't see Skyrim when I try to import from Steam, plus it's just too weird for me, since I'm more used to MO2.
I installed the LOOT installer from github, but everytime I try to install it, I get this error. I am trying to run it from MO2. I have googled it, and only found one other person with this problem, with no answer. Please help.

Wine 11.3
Struggles with Witcher 3 on CachyOS
Hey all,
after tinkering for a day, checking out protondb a lot and not getting anywhere closer to a solution, I thought I'd try to consult this sub.
My specs:
OS:CachyOS
Kernel: Linux 6.19.3-2-cachyos
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X @4.41GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070
16GB Ram
System and Game running on a Samsung 970 Evo Nvme.
The game runs smoothly and better on windows judging purely by FPS count and general stability. However every few seconds the game stutters for a second. I tried checking with mangohud for irregularities regarding hardware usage, but nothing changes. Even the FPS do not drop from the maxed out 75fps(set to that value since my monitors provide this refresh rate).
I have tried different versions of Proton, so far 10, 9, Proton-CachyOS, GE, Experimental and Hotfix. I have tried setting launch options, my current options are:
PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 DXVK_NVAPI_HACK=1 %command%
I have tried switch the game to the DirectX 11 Version, that changed nothing.
Changing any of the in-game graphic settings did nothing, lowering the quality options to the bare minimum and deactivating any kind of Anti-Aliasing or HairWorks did not change anything. As I said before, the FPS counter that steam provides always shows 75 fps, even while the stutters occur.
I also tried using gamemode, changing the priority for Witcher 3 to a higher value, I set the CPU governor to performance and also set the preferred mode inside the nvidia-settings to maximum performance.
I think this is all I have tried today. No changes whatsoever. Constant stutters occuring every few seconds with no explanation.
If anyone here has another hint at what I could try out, I'd very much welcome it. Switched to CachyOS today, 70 hours into this beautiful game and I would be big time sad if this would cause my enjoyment of it to fade.
Thanks in advance!
