ps4 knock off controller issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20 Apr 2024 - 4:47am

I have a TIANHOO controller that is basically a ps4 dual sense knock off. It's a great controller and only $17.

I can get it paired up in blue-man in arch linux, but steam won't recognize it.

If anyone has any tips on driver packages to install etc, please let me know, thanks

How to install from GOG offline installer

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20 Apr 2024 - 1:14am

A while ago I got the complete Fallout series on GOG even though playing Fallout 4 through steam via proton as I previously bought it there but since there is an (potentially) mod breaking update ahead I wanted to grab the offline installer from GOG and save it for all eternity :)
But now I don't know how to install them under Linux since I only use Steam with Proton or Heroic for GOG games with whatever compatibility layer is the default. But after a quick search Heroic seems not to be able to install games from these GOG offline installers and I'd rather not mess with default wine as a more "casual" Linux user so I want to ask what options there are.

XDefiant on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 20 Apr 2024 - 12:22am

Currently there is another play test going on for XDefiant. I tried playing it with both Bottles and Steam but both couldn’t work with the anticheat unfortunately.

This post is simply to inform others who may be curious or to start the conversation on getting this game working

So what's the problem with Wayland on Nvidia?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 11:06pm

I've been running Wayland on Nvidia for the past couple of days and it's been nearly flawless. My only issue is the flickering on xwayland apps which I can just run with ozone to remove the problem. Is there anything I'm missing here?

Thoughts and questions about Fedora, KDE, and Wayland

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 10:53pm

I recently switch from windows to mint, and now to Fedora KDE spin. I like the look and feel, but there are a few problems.

- Mouse feels slightly too smooth. I don't know how to explain it, but it doesn't feel like mint and windows. I might be able to get used to it, but it is off-putting. I've checked the acceleration settings and messed with them but it doesn't help.

- Mouse jitters/flickers when hovering over text. The system for detecting when the mouse style should change is extremely unstable. I can't hover over text without it flickering whenever it changes.

- On firefox, it only scrolls every other "click" of the mousewheel (not middle clicks). It makes it extremely frustrating to scroll.

I don't know which of these problems are caused by kde or wayland, and it is very frustating. I would appreciate any help, thank you guys.

Dual boot or Bazzite

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 10:34pm

I'm ready to take the plunge into daily driving Linux. Games seem like such a crap shoot with Linux so I'm wondering...

Dualboot? or Can I game on something like Bazzite with few issues? I have no issues running Linux daily but the fiddly bits stuff is way beyond me right now?

Help a new Linux user out.

ps. Thanks for the help.

Check out this casual fab farming game bundle, plus a whole bunch of Godot Engine courses

Gaming on Linux - 19 Apr 2024 - 9:14pm
Two interesting picks from Humble Bundle to go over for the weekend. First is the Down on the Farm bundle which has some sweet picks, plus one for game devs!

Is the performance hit the same in all distros?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 8:51pm

I daily drove endeavourOS with a 3060 for a few months and i remember games like cyberpunk 2077 and baldur's gate 3 on dx11 getting significantly worse fps than they got on windows 11 I got a new computer with a 3080 and before migrating i was wondering if I should use any other distro if my use case is just gaming, web browsing and light image editing

Steam Big Picture mode on wrong monitor

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 8:09pm

Hello,

I've been trying to get Steam Big Picture mode on Bazzite working on my dual screen desktop. I have 1 screen connected to HDMI on the right set to secondary in KDE and 1 connected through DisplayPort to my gaming monitor set to primary in KDE.

I can't, for the life of me, get Steam to launch on the right screen, it always defaults to my secondary screen on the right (set vertically obviously not pratical).

Is there a way to get set my DisplayPort screen as the default one, way or the other, since it shuts down everytime I return to Game Mode and Steam starts on my other screen.

It works fine everytime I go back to KDE, the screen wakes up and is set to primary but I lose it when I go back to Steam Big Picture. Very frustrating, any help is appreciated since I could not find any answer anywhere, I just unplug my second HDMI monitor and then it works fine but it's not ideal.

XDefiant Play Test

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 7:57pm

Xdefiant has a play test this weekend. Has anyone been able to get it working? I can launch the game, but when I try to get into a match, the game closes.

I'm using bottles. Tried the latest wine-ge as well as proton-ge.

Arch (KDE) crashes when fullscreen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 7:48pm

hi yesterday I noticed that when I play games in fullscreen the PC freezes and I can't do anything other than forcefully restart it (I've tried to enter tty or disconnect from the session but nothing).

I thought it was a card driver problem (RX 6900 XT) so I tried to simulate the problem (elden ring fullscreen) with journalctl running.

Check the image for journalctl logs.

How i can fix this problem? Is a kwin bug?

Lackluster Gaming Performance (mainly stutter)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 19 Apr 2024 - 7:14pm

Hi all, I've been working on setting up a fresh install of Kubuntu to dual boot with a Windows 10 install (specs included in image) to begin to transition to for use as my daily driver, but I've been struggling to get performance up on some games that I have no such issues with on Windows.

While I don't have issues with all games, the most common issues I do have are frame stutters and a weird sort of latency or delay in overall performance. For the most part, FPS as per the steam counter averages pretty decent.

That being said, I've had some issues with a Minecraft 1.12.2 homemade modpack having 10-15 FPS less on average on Linux than I do on Windows (same memory allocation).

I've installed the proprietary Nvidia driver though I haven't done any configuration tweaks. I've also installed and set up Autocomposer and Feral Gamemode and enabled them on all relevant games.

I'm running a dual 1080p monitor setup, the primary is 144 Hz through Display port and the other is 60 Hz through HDMI.
