Error when launching with steam
I'm trying to launch need for speed unbound, as well as nfs hot pursuit remastered.
This is what steam shows me.
An error occurred while launching this game : disk write error - /run/media/yistech/EXT PRO 1TB/SteamLibrary/steamapps/downloading/1493710/files/lib64/libdav1d.so
Update : I installed proton to a different drive. So this error went away. But the game doesn't launch? Is this the case with EA games on steam on linux? I cant sewn to find an answer anywhere.

EA App (through Steam) is utter dogshit. How can I make it less so?
I recently picked up Battlefield 1 again after some years, and was dismayed to see it now launches under this weird, janky, unified launcher, along with the EA "app". I checked ProtonDB, and most people claim it works "just fine", but I'm having some issues. Those being:
1) It simply doesn't respect gamescope. The game launches as if it were never involved.
2) It's incredibly slow to launch, and often crashes. I have to launch it maybe 3 or 4 times to get it working.
3) It doesn't crash gracefully. If (read: when) it does crash, you bet your arse I'm killing every .exe process I can find, along with the WINE server, and often times Steam itself, as it has issues relaunching the game. If I don't do all of these, it'll crash again or just not launch at all.

Have you bought Helldiver's 2 despite it being online only?
Still debating with myself if it's worth it (would be the most expensive game in my library) but I want to play with my friends :/

Only Indie games launching
All my games are installed on a secondary drive. The drive is visible by both Linux and Windows and I've pointed Steam on Linux to the drive. The idea was to be able to access all my stuff regardless of which OS I was currently under.
However despite a bunch of trouble shooting I cant seem to get my games outside of indie games to run. Even games that I know for a fact will run under Linux like Skyrim. I click play and they basically insta crash.
Is there some sort of roadblock between the way Windows and Linux handles that may be preventing them from running? All of the games were installed under Windows previously. I have tried deleting games and re downloading them to see if that would fix them but it doesn't
Would it be better to just completely wipe the drive and reinstall under Linux?

LG Buddy - Turn On and Off LG WebOS TVs with the PC
Hi All
I use an LG C2 OLED as my monitor and got sick of having to turn it on and off with the remote, so I made this:
https://github.com/Faceless3882/LG_Buddy
It's inspired by the LG Companion app for windows (https://github.com/JPersson77/LGTVCompanion).
It's essentially just some scripts that run on startup and shutdown using a systemd service. Though I would share it here for anyone else out there running an LG WebOS TV.
Cheers

Toggle Button on Mouse or keyboard
I would like to set up a special button on my mouse or keyboard, which can switch its signal on and off.
a simple letter key that repeats itself constantly until I turn it off again. Like permanent fire, for example...
my mouse is supported by Piper, but the macro functions are very basic. I tried xmodmap or xbk, but I think I'm too stupid.
Please help...

Playing Black Desert (BDO)
So here are the exact steps for me on Arch, with paru as the aur helper. Also I use Xorg, and I'm not sure about Wayland specifics. But if wine uses XWayland, then it should probably work. In fact, on other distros it would differ only when it comes to installing wine-ge-custom. In that case you should check https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom.
Install wine-ge-custom and all the libs: paru -S \ wine-ge-custom \ lib32-gnutls \ lib32-gamemode \ lib32-libglvnd \ lib32-libxcomposite \ lib32-nvidia-utils \ lib32-vkd3d \ lib32-vulkan-icd-loaderIt seems that lib32-libxcomposite is the missing piece in many installations. It fixed the black screens for me.
Ofc add /opt/wine-ge-custom/bin or wherever it's installed to your path.
Install winetricks: # -Sdd is to ignore dependencies, since we don't want to install the official wine paru -Sdd winetricks Install wine-mono and wine-gecko:For gecko:Download a matching wine-gecko-x.x.x-x86_64.tar.xz from https://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko for me it's wine 8.6, so gecko's 2.47.4. Then:Wine path may be /opt/wine-ge-custom sudo mkdir -p <wine path>/gecko sudo tar xf wine-gecko-2.47.4-x86_64.tar.xz -C <wine path>/gecko
For mono:
- Run wine uninstaller
- Remove existing mono packages.
- If it's wine 8.6, download https://dl.winehq.org/wine/wine-mono/7.4.0/wine-mono-7.4.0-x86.msi If it isn't, google for the matching version. There are no full table on the wine hq
- wine wine-mono-7.4.0-x86.msi
- wine uninstaller again, to check if it's installed, there should be two entries for mono
Now run winetricks. You will need the following components in "Install a Windows DLL or component":
d3dcompiler_43 d3dcompiler_47 d3dx11_42 d3dx9 d3dxof dotnet48 dotnet6 dxvkIf you are on arch and used -Sdd, then uninstall winetricks, since it will be bothering you with the dependencies later.
Now you can install the client wine <path to installer>. To run the game, use BlackDesertLauncher.exe, not wow_helper.exe.
Some "try this" fixes:- DON'T RUN WITH WINE64
- If you are on a laptop and got some X error and something likeMajor opcode of failed request: 152 (GLX)Then don't specify any NVIDIA stuff explicitly and don't use prime. It should just work without it.
- Uninstalling xf86-video-intel may help if you still encounter errors, on intel+nvidia systems.
- Try loading glx in xorg.conf: Section "Module" Load "glx" EndSection
- Check kernel cmdline for the nvidia flags. I have nvidia_drm.modeset=1 nvidia_drm.fbdev=1 set. Read arch wiki on nvidia_drm.fbdev
- Also you can try setting options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 NVreg_UsePageAttributeTable=1 NVreg_Mobile=3 in the modprobe config. Taken from arch wiki - nvidia tips and tricks
- The game/client can't open links. I still don't know why, but at least they don't crash with .NET installed. So only the password authentication will work, for ex.
- I didn't test anything with a dual monitor setup. And this may be a special case for prime systems, judging from steam's behavior.

8bitdo ultimate c 2.4g wireless controller not dectected on debian 12 with Gnome
Forgive me, I am an absolute linux noob.
I recently kinda broke my computer and in the process of fixing it, I switched from KDE to Gnome. But it was Debian 12 before and still is.
Previously, when I plugged in my USB receiver for my 8bitdo Xbox360 clone gamepad, it just worked. Plug and play. This aligns with what the Debian Wiki has to say about gamepads ( https://wiki.debian.org/Gamepad ) Now it does not.
When I open a game or emulator, and press buttons on the gamepad, nothing happens.
The USB receiver for the wireless controller shows up in the port when I run lsusb in the terminal. But when I run evtest it doesn't show up among the inputs.
Additionally when I us ls /dev/input/by-id it also does not show up, just my wireless keyboard and mouse.
I have tried downloading xboxdrv as a driver. I have tried going to https://github.com/GriefNorth/8bitdo-ultimate-controller-udev/blob/main/99-8bitdo-ultimate-controllers.rules and downloading 99-8bitdo-ultimate-controllers.rules and I moved it into /usr/lib/udev/rules.d
So far, no results.
Anyone got some ideas? Do I just switch back to KDE where I knew it was working? People seem to quite like GNOME and I wanted to give it a fair shot.
