Horrible packet loss on cs2

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 15:08

The game since the launch has been unplayable for me, because of a constant packet loss oscillating between 10% — 50%.

Game runs flawlessly on Windows, so it has to be a Linux only problem. I saw no difference in x11 and Wayland.

Packet loss occurs in both mm and community servers.

I absolutely love this game, and I don't feel like dual booting windows just for this one game. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I saw a lot of people talking about bad performance compared to windows. Performance wise, it's actually pretty good for me, it runs comfortably above my 165 refresh rate. Sure, the fps are a little bit lower than on Windows, but it's not a problem for me.

Loading stutter in games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 15:07

Hi, I'm experiencing an issue in some games where the game freezes briefly whenever it loads new content. Once the content is loaded, it runs smoothly again. Is there a way to fix this by preloading all game assets before the game starts, or what other fix could be it?

i am using lutris and wine 9.21 staging

Testing various Distros for my fav. MMO (Wine req.)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 15:01

I have been playing Mabinogi MMO since the week of release. I have switched to PopOS several times until they officially blocked VMs in some capacity to block "Multiclient". I swapped back to Win10 just to play this, but i'm also an inhouse-only AI enthusiast who was not looking forward to Window's changes.

Since then, improvements to Wine have been amazing and are in compliance with the games security. Due to this, I have focused on testing different Distros, and 3 specific apps for Wine to run this game.

I have tested Ubuntu, PopOS, Bazzite, Endeavour, Debian12, Batocera, etc... And against the apps in Bottles, Lutris, and Heroic Games Launcher.

My results are more than likely not 100% accurate, but my point blank findings has been at least that most distros work, and flatpaks have little to no reduction to performance.

My excel sheet for Mabinogi on Linux tested list+notes+comparison:

CSGO2 FPS drops during the match

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 13:57

So I switched from Windows 10 to Linux recently (Ubuntu 24.10 64Bit, firmware version F4) and I knew that CSGO2 was supported for Linux. Everything works smoothly when the game starts but after a couple of rounds I get frame drops and the game becomes too choppy. I tried several driver versions before installing 560. Some of them were OK, until the PC would randomly shut down with no warning and wouldn't boot again.

Nvidia Driver Version: 560.35.03

GPU: GeForce RTX 2060 6GB

CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 7 7700X × 16

64GB DDR5 RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 2060 (RTX2060)

Any info of which driver version I should Install, which RTX2060 you're using is appreciated

Steam Game Updates every Day

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 13:35

I recently switched from Windows to Fedora and after installing Steam I simply copied my game folders. After Steam installed the missing files, everything worked perfectly. However, I now always have the problem that Steam downloads an update of several gigabytes (approx. 3-4 GB) per game every day without the game folder getting bigger accordingly, even for games that normally receive very few updates. Since my network connection is not the best, it always takes a while. Can anyone explain why Steam has to download so much data again and again and how I can possibly do something about it?

Double gamepad in wine games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 12:21

I am trying to play some games on my Raspberry Pi 5, having installed Box64 and Wine, and all games work fine with my keyboard.

I'm encountering a strange issue where some Wine games present double controllers, notably The Binding of Isaac.

I'm trying with a Logitech F710 and a Dualshock 4 (both wired and bluetooth) and when I open my controller settings, I always see double the amount of controllers I actually connected.

When I use the DS4 controller both on wired and bluetooth mode, I see as input methods

  • Dualshock 4
  • Dualshock 4
  • Keyboard (of course)

And all the inputs are wrong: even if opening the menu I see all the keys binded correctly, my menu accept works with circle, menu back is square, I shoot with random keys, I can only move with the right analog when tilted 90 degrees...

Using the Logitech F710 causes less issues, in the sense that I still see two controllers

  • Logitech F710 Gamepad
  • XInput Controller
  • Keyboard (as usual)

The Logitech F710 has a DInput/XInput switch which I keep turned on XInput for compatibility purposes with RetroPie. Anyways interestingly enough the Logitech F710 Gamepad has no bindings whatsoever, while the XInput Controller has all Xbox Controller bindings. Whenever I try to start a game my character doesn't move because the game assumes that the player starting the game is the one with the Logitech F710 gamepad...

In order to get my DS4 controller even recognized by Wine games I had to run

wine reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\winebus" /v "DisableHidraw" /t REG_DWORD /d 1

wine reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\winebus" /v "Enable SDL" /t REG_DWORD /d 1

All native games work fine (tested Cuphead, Gang Beasts, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes and Minecraft Java Edition). How can I remove the double controller and also get my actual Dualshock 4 bindings work?

XDefiant works but freezes during matches

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 11:28

I got XDefiant to run just fine installing it with Lutris and using GE-Proton9-20 or Proton Experimental. It launches, I can join a match and play for around 5 minutes before the game just freezes. Sometimes during the match, sometimes in the menu after a match.

I tried a lot of different tips from reddit and youtube and even installed it again with heroic but the problem remains. I don't think it's my system because other demanding games and multiplayer titles run just fine.

Anyone with the same issue and any idea how to fix it?

Not trouble running steam link + big picture from wayland

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 09:15

Recently migrated to Wayland + Hyprland from X11 + I3. Everything has gone relatively smoothly except for one big sticking point: most of the valve software suite runs like complete garbage.

I realize this is a niche case, but I feel like I've been experiencing nothing but trouble with Steam since moving to Wayland, the most egregious of which is the Big Picture support. IME big picture has been completely borked on wayland for months. Overlays never work, the window randomly swaps fullscreen/windowed uncontrollably, games lose focus half of the time, everything is incredibly sluggish.

On top of that, steam link is completely broken, which is a non-starter because half of my use case is streaming my pc out to my living room to play games on the couch with my girlfriend. Games, if they even work, run incredibly choppy, unplayabley so. This whole setup works flawlessly on x11 but completely breaks down in Wayland. I've tried switching to a mainstream compositor like KDE and the results are exactly the same. I've tried running everything in gamescope and the problem only got worse. I tried switching to moonlight/sunshine for streaming, didn't work. The only fix was to move back to x11.

Has anyone else gotten this working? With all the talk that Wayland is finally ready I figured I'd give it a spin. I'd hate to resign myself to a few more years of X11, but it's starting to look like that's what I'll have to do. Everything gaming wise on Wayland just seems half baked and buggy.

Passing GPU to VM for gaming.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 14. November 2024 - 09:00

So before I go down the rabbit hole, what do I need to be looking for to pass my gpu to a vm? I would have thought I could just simply add the gpu to the vm and it'd fire up but no, I must be missing something.

See, what'll happen as it stands is when I start the vm with the gpu added, plasmashell, firefox, and anything running under kdeplasma crash. I kinda expected that but still. My VM never actually starts. My attempts to stop the VM just crashes libvirtd and restarting that becomes impossible. If I do a normal reboot, the system halts. I have to power cycle to get back up.

I need some way to safely take the gpu away from plasma and let the VM have it then give it back when done. My system has an igpu for Linux to use during that time. I don't mind passing the kb/mouse to the vm once it's running. I'll use something like Synergy to allow seemless use of both systems.

All this, just to avoid rebooting into windows natively just so I can play Space Engineers. The game refuses to run in proton. Probably .net related. Can't be bothered to fix.

I have this handy log for my efforts: https://pastebin.com/95czqgkz

Specs:

  • CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 4.7 GHz 12-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler - be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard - ASRock X670E Pro RS ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • Memory - Crucial Pro 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-5600 CL46 Memory
  • Video Card - Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card
  • Case - Fractal Design Define 7 ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Power Supply - SeaSonic FOCUS GX-1000 ATX 3.0 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Almost forgot to mention. I'm running kubuntu 24.10 with the latest kernel. Whatever version that is.
