Do you think that Linux is ready for high-end PC gaming and if not, what's left to be done?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 15:33

I believe that high-end PC gaming this is the space where Linux gaming presents the most challenges. I think that's the consensus on it but there are a lot of sore spots on the subject. Putting that aside for the moment, I think that Linux being the go-to gaming PC OS for DIYers would be even more significant that the Steam Deck for Linux gaming because of the halo side-effects.

Being considered the best in anything has enormous PR benefits, even the best is used by a small minority because it represents what's possible, even if not cheap. And that's a big deal in PC gaming.

There are those who only want the best experience they can and have little concern for anything else. That's something that I think fits in well with the Linux ethos.

How to lower denounce time

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 14:58

I’ve been limited to a max of 12 cps on pop os, while on windows I used to get about 25. So far Linux has been pretty good for the last few months but i can’t find anything on lowering denounce time that actually works, I have a glorious model D wireless V1 (idk if the D 2 came out yet). Would changing the debounce time on the mouse using the glorious software on a seperate windows pc change it on Linux too?

Games start on wrong screen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 13:32

I have a dual screen setup: big main monitor (1440p) and a little DisplayLink portable screen (1080p) on the left.

I've started having this issue recently, since Proton updated to v9 on Steam.

Games run on the left little screen but they "think" they're on a bigger one: have 1440p resolution, primary display selected in settings etc. If I just move the game window to the main screen by hotkey command, it doesn't go to fullscreen mode and the mouse cursor position is broken.

Tried different Proton versions including GE, but no luck. The 8.0.5 works great, but I don't want to stick with the older version and miss latest features & performance updates.

Is there any Proton params to specify the screen to launch on?

My spec (X11 WM):

Pizza tower stuttering a bit when playing on Nvidia and wayland(hypeland and kde)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 13:26

In every other game the gameplay is smooth and almost as good as X11, but with pizza tower things are a bit complicated.

On my laptop with an rtx 3050 (was a good deal) and Ryzen 7 5800U with 144hz refresh rate the game seems to be running perfectly

Although on my rtx 3060 Ryzen 7 5700x with a 75hz monitor rig the game seems to stutter a lot especially when running and moving the screen

(both running arch)

I am using the proprietary Nvidia drivers on the both of them with all of them being updated to the latest release

I have tried to:

-rechecked the kernel parameters (Especially nvidia.modeset=1)

-turn off vsync

-changed resolutions

-Copied the settings from my laptop to my rig

-tried to use the Nvidia-lts drivers

-turned down the monitor's refresh rate

I have been trying to fix this for days but no luck, is there a way, option for me to make the game be smooth?

Path Of Exile - Garuda

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 13:12

Dear Linux Users!

I’m using Garuda Linux with my PC finally: - GTX 1080 to - 16gb dd4 3200mhz - i5-12600k - 2560x1440 60Hz - 7gb/s m2 ssd (read and write too)

When we play in 5-6 player party the resolution became so poor and my FPS drops 7 from 220. I’m using X11 latest updates drivers (not Wayland I switched from login screen already) but the problem still up. Using only 5gb Vram. It using Dx11 should I switch to Vulkan? On dx12 if someone come to my Hideout I instantly crash.💥 Any tips?

[Arch Linux] Proton not working on NTFS volume.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 13:07

Hi, I've just installed Arch and mounted an NTFS HDD using ntfs-3g. This HDD has a good portion of my Steam games library, such as ULTRAKILL or Teardown, which I've tried to launch with many Proton versions and none of them work.

I have tried the solution of creating a symlink in /mnt/HDD/steamapps/steamapps/compatdata to my system drive's compatdata, but it doesn't seem to be working. Compatdata for the respective games is clearly being generated in said folder, but the games don't run at all—they seem to get stuck on "❌ CANCEL" for a couple seconds and then the button goes back to PLAY, without launching the game.

/etc/fstab for reference:

# /dev/sdb2 UUID=4E52C52552C5131F /mnt/HDD ntfs-3g uid=1000,gid=1000,rw,user,exec,umask=000 0 0

Zero dawn not showing linux compatibility on steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 12:51

I'm new to this. Just managed to get arch up and running with cachyos kernel. KSP runs sooooo smooth!

Went to install Horizon zero dawn from steam and it's only showing windows compatibility. I know it works on linux though because there's youtube videos everywhere showing it. What gives?

Discord doesn't stream audio in X11 and discord_streamaudio has awful framerate and freezes

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 11:52

Hello,
As I've described in the title, I have a problem
I am using Arch Linux with GNOME 43 in X11. And I am using Pipewire, so that isn't a problem.
I've used Hyprland before GNOME and there the discord_streamaudio worked great. But the novelty of Tiling WMs has passed and I realized that I work faster in GNOME. I've also used alternatives like Vencord, but it's exactly the same. Unwatchable framerate and freezing completely after a couple of seconds

Please help

Halo, in Linux, on an ancient Mac Pro

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 21. April 2024 - 06:58

Halo MCC running superbly in Fedora 39 on a 2010 Mac Pro with an RX580.

No tinkering needed: just installed and went.

With this computer getting long in the tooth, I was facing the expensive possibility of having to both build a gaming PC and get an M2 Mac Mini with maxed-out storage and RAM.

Linux just gave me the freedom to consolidate into one OS!
