Distro recommendation for 5090
Hello!
I've been bitten by the Linux gaming bug since a few months. I want to ditch windows, but having a nvidia card has held me back a little bit.
But today I think is the day I'm actually thinking to just do it.
Which distro would you recommend for this gpu and a ryzen 5600x (weird mix I know, but that's a different story)?
Im a programmer, so I'm not afraid of cli, also worked a few years using linux/macos, but, as I spend my whole day programming, I'd like the gaming experience to be the cleanest, reducing tinkering as much as possible, don't feel like getting stuck in a cli after coding for 8 hours.
I've seen around here that Arch based distros are very good, but also fedora's.
Id also like to be able to use hdr, which I've read has had some issues with some distributions.
Also, do we have a good tool to undervolt my gpu on Linux? I know afterburner is not available on Linux, so what would be the equivalent?
This is also my desktop pc, so I need to be able to use it for my programming stuff on my free time, office, etc... so having a heavily gamified os would not be desirable, I mean, things like booting directly into a console mode or stuff like this. Acceptable (since you can always get to cli or desktop in Linux), but not desirable.
I also need to be able to connect to my wireless brother printer, but I'd assume this is something that should be working out of the box in most cases.
So, keeping that in mind, what would be your recommendations?
Thank you all in advance, looking forward to see what your recommendations are!

Help needed on setting lsfg-vk on fedora 43
My setup:
- Fedora 43
- NVIDIA RTX 2060 Laptop 6 GB
- Intel i5 10th gen
- 32 GB DDR4 RAM
- SSD
- Resident Evil 4 Remake on Steam (running on 40/55 fps, loe/medium settings)
What I already tested:
- lsfg-vk benchmark works
- benchmark output shows frame generation is active
- example result was around 44 real FPS and about 88 presented FPS with:
- multiplier = 2
- flow_scale = 0.75
- performance_mode = true
- process detection for the game shows `re4.exe`
- I’m using a launch option like:
LSFG_LEGACY=1 LSFG_DLL_PATH="/home/myuser/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Lossless Scaling/Lossless.dll" LSFG_MULTIPLIER=2 LSFG_FLOW_SCALE=0.75 LSFG_PERFORMANCE_MODE=1 LSFG_PROCESS=re4.exe %command%
My problem:
In benchmark, lsfg-vk seems to work.
In RE4 Remake, I’m not fully sure whether it is really improving presentation/fluidity during gameplay. steam still shows roughly the base FPS, so I’m not sure if:
1. lsfg-vk is working and stream only reports the base framerate
2. frame generation is active but frame pacing / compositor / Wayland is hurting the result
3. something is still wrong in my setup
Questions:
1. What is the best way to confirm that lsfg-vk is really working correctly in an actual game on Fedora 43?
2. On Fedora, is it better to use Wayland, X11, Gamescope, or some specific Steam/Proton setup for smoother frame pacing with lsfg-vk?
3. For an RTX 2060 laptop, what settings would you recommend as a good starting point?
- multiplier
- flow_scale
- performance_mode
- any present mode / vsync / compositor advice

A Linux gaming computer is the game, not the game
Just spent another 2 hours successfully getting Anno 1800 to work on pop!_os thanks to the Ubisoft Launcher. I'm sure over the years I've spent more time getting games to work than playing them.

Fedora Wlan Problem after update. Help
Hey guys, something weird happened, after installing my GPU and updated dns packages... my Wi-Fi adapter picks up the Internet connection, then it gets broken down every 10 seconds so I don't have internet anymore.
it's not my routers Problem because my other devices have internet. it's just my fedora desktop.
The Wlan wifi adapter worked fine until now.
I think after the new update the problems started.
Any simple command i can use to fix?
Remember i dont have internet to download other packages.
Also, the Adapter works with my windows 11 dual boot.
I deleted my dns 9999 option. To see if it was the problem, but it was not.
Thanks in advance

Path of Exile on Iris XE
Hey all,
I've recently got myself a "new" (refurbished) laptop mainly for work purposes. It sports an i7-1270P and 2x16GB DDR4 RAM that fuel the integrated Iris XE GPU.
The first thing I did was install Mint as it's my go-to distro for everything.
I don't expect any super performance in (light) gaming but I hoped to be able to get at least more than 3FPS in PoE. The loading times are fine and the graphs show that temperature, VRAM, RAM are all fine. The thing is that the Shader graph is a solid green block and the CPU and GPU frametimes are somewhere between 300-1000ms which leads to absolute unplayability.
The game runs via Steam using Proton Hotfix. I've manually activated performance mode (Battery Symbol --> Performance).
Did anyone have a similar experience and was able to resolve it respectively has some hints for me as to what to change?
Thanks in advance!

Substitute for Nvidia shadowplay for Linux? Is steam recording a good substitute?
best way to get high quality discord streaming equivalent to windows on nvidia?
I have to make sure and check, but from what I know official discord on linux still uses cpu encoding on nvidia, with amd using vaapi now. is there a way to get higher quality streaming equivalent to windows then? i dont know what vesktop does but could it be equivalent? (does the video accel option even do anything for streaming yourself? does it try to enable hardware accel for screensharing? last time i had it on a few days ago it was stuttering when i was watching a friends' stream.)

wanted to use arch but that is a concern
