I recently installed arch linux and also installed lutris, but I can't install anything on Lutris because of this error. I've already watched dozens of tutorials on "how to fix error 256 on Lutris", but nothing works. I'm completely stuck and don't know what else I can do.

So, I've been planning to buy a new PC for a while, for gaming, among many things, and I wanted to give Linux a try for the longest time, because Windows is more unbearable with each update. The issue is, nowdays, I mostly play small indie games, and old games from the 2000s, and most of them don't even have Mac versions, let alone Linux. So I wanna check, is there some sort of emulator or cross OS software you can use to run these games in Linux?

Edit: Okay, appearantly I didn't know about Wine, nor that is has been baked into Steam. So I guess that answers all my concers. Thanks everyone!

I feel like the title isn't adequate, but I don't think I can explain it easily. In any case, my situation is this:

Recently at the beginning of the year, I got my first brand new, unused laptop (I live in a country where things like desktop computers are expensive, and my current situation wouldn't allow for it either, since I prefer eating to playing). The point is, I want to play my games peacefully without suffering from the fps dropping out of nowhere, which has been happening to me recently.

I understand that I could do my own research to find a good Linux distribution for playing peacefully while maintaining my general functionality, which is a bit of everything. The thing is, I don't know if these distributions are really designed for gaming without a dedicated graphics card. I'm using Intel UHD, which, while yes, is still worse than Iris, it was cheaper, and my other laptop was already one foot in the grave.

I don't play modern games; the most recent one I actually have is Fallout 4. The rest are 2D games that require very few resources or I just have them in my library collecting dust.

Note: I don't want Linux Mint. I tried it once, and I didn't like it. It felt like... an incomplete version (although I admit it helped me a lot when I quit using things like Chrome, Office, and others).

In case it's helpful, I have:

- HP 250 G10 Laptop

- 16 GB of RAM, 3200 Mbps

- Intel Core 13th Gen i3-1315U

And I'll add that I had it serviced a month ago.

after buying and installing DLC-less DRG, i boot it up, and it play fine until the game freezes and refuses to close. i tinkered with the compatibility settings, and it always crashes! help!

Today I tried to install Black Desert using steam. After the game launched the launcher black screened. It is responsive (when i click things websites open) but I cant see anything.

I've tried these things to troubleshoot this. None fixed this issue.

1. Switched proton version

2. Disabled firewall: I did this because launcher logs said that they tried to load some fonts but weren't successful. So I thought that my firewall was blocking this traffic.

3. Verifying the files using steam and launcher: Nothing changed, no errors, no problems found

4. Running the website launcher: After I installed the website launcher it launched without any issue. But I can't use it because I purchased the game on steam.

Hey guys, i just downloaded linux mint in my laptop, everything was going good , until i clicked at restart to open windows 10 bit the pc start on a loop and it don't want to open linux or windows, then i use my USB that i downloaded linux mint from , and i get access to linux but i can't access my windows guys i need some help to return back my windows without delete any necessary files or image please .

I just purchased a bunch of games on GOG and for some reason they don't all show in Heroic.
I redeemed some of amazons free games (including the tomb raider 1-3 bundle) and hidden and dangerous 2.
All games appear in heroic right away while these two still don't show 3 days later.
Does anyone have any solution?

Hi community,

I recently replaced Windows with Debian 12, after my dual boot started acting up. This is an almost completely fresh install, the setup was done offline and the only significant changes I've made are adding the sources and updating my system, and installing network and graphics drivers.

I'm completely unable to use proton. Native games will launch, but any game using proton won't. My old game drives are NTFS however every game I've tried I moved to my main drive. Following tips on protondb or using GE proton doesn't change anything. I've tried Overwatch 2, which doesn't launch at all, HL2 running on proton is the same situation, and Ultrakill which I completely reinstalled, this game manages to show the Unity preloader but closes soon after without launching the game. This happens on both X and Wayland.

Apologies first of all, I posted this in the Steam Deck subreddit and it got removed. I'm trying to find a way around this update problem I'm having with Sober to play Roblox, and I don't know any subreddits to post this in 😭 also I know there's a Discord server dedicated to Sober, but I'm not able to access that or Discord itself

So I've had Sober for a while I've had no problems with finding the APK files to update up until 2 weeks ago. For context, I use APK Mirror to download files and update Sober to play Roblox, and I don't have access to Play Store to update Roblox. Around last month I had downloaded the supported APK file for Roblox (2.679.762) to update, which worked, but 2 weeks ago I got the same message again to update Sober with the same APK file name, and since I already downloaded it I used it again since it was the same file name, to which it says "Invalid Bundle Version" and that it's not supported by this version of Sober, and that it only supports 2.677.1763. I downloaded that APK file, it said the EXACT same, I then used both at the same time, which also didn't work.

I was wondering if there's any way to bypass this, I'm aware Sober usually makes you update every few weeks or so, but I haven't had a different message since then. Would I need to download a completely different APK file (ones that were not mentioned) to install with? Idk if anyone has had trouble with it recently, i haven't heard any news. Sorry for the inconvenience, I could post this to a different subreddit if that's required, I just don't know which one to post it to.

I have had great success with my 9070 and HDR via proton/wayland. However it seems I was not able to get Battle.net Ave wow in particular to kick in HDR mode.

Has anyone had any success getting HDR to work for Warcraft?

I'm *really* thinking of switching over to Linux, especially because my brother also just switched like 2-3 months ago and is willing to help, I'm building a new sff pc soon so I'm planning to start fresh... the problem is ray tracing and nvidia performance? I'll be using a 5070ti for my build, and while I've seen that performance with nvidia isn't that bad now, ray tracing is apparently still horrendous compared to windows and I really love ray tracing in single player games (which is pretty much all I play currently, but that might change at some point). I was thinking of maybe dual booting and switching to windows for the sole reason of playing ray traced games, but is there a "quick" way of doing that? (or at least just speeding it up?).
