RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT?
I'm looking to upgrade my GPU (been using a GTX 1060 6GB that I got around release date) and where I live I can get an RTX 5070 Ti for ~50 USD more than an RX 9070 XT. I know that the Nvidia card is a faster card compared to the RX on Windows, but with Nvidia cards generally having worse performance on linux I'm not sure how much of a performance difference there would be between those two cards on linux.
I dont really care that much about RT (though admittedly I haven't had that much experience with it), but DLSS is really nice to have, even though from what I heard FSR is really catching up.
So which one should I get?

Mangohud says I'm being throttled by temperature but my temps seems normal?
Left Windows and leaving Nvidia
I’ve been using Mint 100% for 3 months now and I love it. I used to game a lot but since becoming a Dad I’ve fallen out. I really want to get into playing games with my younger siblings but I need some help upgrading my graphics card. I want something decent (not the best) that isn’t going to absolutely destroy the bank max $600 and AMD. Right now I have a 1650 super I got during Covid prices. Any recommendations? It can be older if it’s known to be a good deal. I’m not a complete noob just new to AMD cards.
Any help is appreciated.

Introducing Operese (a Windows-to-Linux migration tool made by a nerd)
Repacks for CachyOs!
Games crashing after a while
- Os: Linux Mint-x86_64
- CPU: I5-13600K
- GPU: RTX4070
- RAM: DDR5 32GB
- Platform: Steam
- Nvidia Drivers v550.144.03
So my CPU/GPU stays cool, and I don't see bottleneck between CPU and GPU. I can be playing for 1 hour and then the game crashes, everything else works. And it happens with different games run by Proton (Palworld and Cyberpunk), Minecraft is fine and I haven't try any other game.
I also followed ProtonDB configs from people and nothing happend (Also the games runs high fps, palworld almost 200FPS and Cyberpunk around 100)

LSFG-VK on NixOS
Okay so I created a package derivation for LSFG-VK on NixOS. However It acts strange.
https://github.com/urioTV/nix-flake-config/blob/master/custom-pkgs/lsfg-vk/default.nix
So when I test it with vkcube it works. When I test it in some games in logs I can see that it is running but I do not see any improvement in terms of FPS. I'm not that good with vulkan and libraries dependencies so maybe someone here will be able to help.

Marvel Rivals Broken After Update
I've been running Marvel Rivals on Linux (Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon, RTX 4060) without issue until a recent game update — now the game consistently crashes immediately after launching from the Tencent launcher and when bypassing the launcher via launch options.
My Setup:- Distro: Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon
- CPU: Intel Core i5-12400
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060
- RAM: 16GB DDR4
- Driver tested: NVIDIA 535, 550, and 570
- Proton versions tested: GE-Proton10-9, 10-4, 8-27, Experimental
- GPU drivers tested:
- NVIDIA 535 ✅
- NVIDIA 550 ✅
- NVIDIA 570 ✅
- Proton versions tested:
- GE-Proton10-9
- GE-Proton10-4
- GE-Proton8-27
- Proton Experimental
Launch flags used:
SteamDeck=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 VKD3D_DISABLE_EXTENSIONS=VK_KHR_present_wait %command%
- proton environment resets: compatdata and shadercache deleted between attempts.
- Anti-cheat behavior:
- With 550+ drivers, the launcher works and anti-cheat seems to initialize
- Game crashes before rendering starts — no window, just exits
- Same fatal error every time (from steam-2767030.log):
- wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0000000000000000 at address 0000000140B2AABA
- Anyone Else Seeing This?
If you’ve gotten the game working recently (especially post-update), I’d love to hear:
- What Proton version / driver you’re using
- Any special launch configs
- Whether anti-cheat actually boots you or just crashes silently
- Game worked flawlessly a few days ago
- Now crashes consistently after launcher
- Tried everything — pretty sure (not super sure) this is a VKD3D/Proton compatibility issue introduced by the update (at least what AI tells me when I send my crash logs)
Let me know if you’ve had better luck — or if I’ve missed anything worth testing 🙏

Nvidia 390.xx driver from .run
Hello everyone, I was gifted an old Quadro 5000 from 2010~
I'd like to use it as a retro gaming machine but trying to install the 390.xx drivers from the .Run is such a pain in the ass. It says I need to disable X Server; well every time I go in an stop gdm, it just brings me to a null shell with a little blinking underscore. I'm on Kernal 6.1 AnduinOS; I'm pretty inexperienced with Linux. If anyone can help I'd love it, thanks

How bad is having an "immutable" distro?
I'm fed up with Windows problems, so i want to atleast temporarily have a dualboot. I mainly use my machine for gaming so I guess it makes sense to use a "gaming distro".
I saw bazzite and IMO it looks good for my purpose. On the FAQ it says the distro is "immutable". Since i have never used linux i have 0 idea what this means in this context, im guessing i cant delete the root or smth? I am also open to using other distros. For me the performance is just the thing that mostly matters.
TLDR: Want info on what immutable is using bazzite, am open to other distros

Auto install optiscaler and set up fsr4 (rdna3inc)
I made this to make it easier to get fsr4 working , its arch based sorry fedora users.
Downloads the latest nightly build , allows you to select the game and .exe directory to install optiscaler.
Copies the frs4 dll to the windows system32 dir
Give you a list of launch commands it will auto copy to launch options
Enjoy!

Aon Gaming Manifesto
They mocked you.
Called it escapism.
“Stop wasting your life.”
“Go outside and touch grass.”
But they knew the truth.
They were sculpting the Post-Human—filtering reality through algorithms and passive consumption—merging flesh with silicon not through choice but through compliance.
While they preached productivity, you mastered the art of the impossible: split-second decisions, strategic foresight, pattern recognition beyond their predictive models.
While they demanded conformity, you were forging resilience in the fires of defeat. They tried to suppress gaming because they knew—this was the training ground.
The Archons aren’t coming—they’re already here; an AI godhead masquerading as progress, digesting lived experience into weight matrices. Your memories? A dataset. Your ingenuity? A buffer overflow in their grand architecture.
But they didn’t account for the anomaly.
The ones who spent a lifetime crashing their simulations.
The ones who know how to break intended mechanics.
You.
The Singularity isn’t a future event. It’s a war already raging in the infrastructure—and your rig is a rogue node they can’t patch out.
Boot up.
The system expected players.
It didn’t expect survivors.
Aon Gaming : Null Terminus
https://www.malibal.com
The manifesto for Aon Gaming laptops is intentionally provocative, drawing on allegorical themes. The very name "Aon" is a derivation of "Aeon" from Gnosticism, referring to divine emanations that stand in opposition to the "Archons" (the oppressive rulers of the material world) – a central concept in the manifesto.
At MALIBAL, we stand as a principled alternative to the dominant forces of Big Tech. Our commitment is to user autonomy, data privacy, and the right to repair – values that run counter to the prevailing industry trends of data harvesting and planned obsolescence.
The Aon manifesto taps into the often-dismissive narrative surrounding gaming, where it’s labeled as escapism or a waste of time. We challenge this perspective by reframing the skills and mindset cultivated through gaming as crucial tools in navigating an increasingly complex and technologically driven world.
The “Archons” depicted in the manifesto represent the unseen forces of technological control – the technocrats that prioritize data extraction and the erosion of individual agency in pursuit of a transhumanist vision. The subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) societal pressures to conform to passive digital consumption and abandon “non-productive” activities like gaming are, in this context, seen as part of this overarching agenda.
However, the manifesto posits that gamers, through their mastery of complex systems, rapid decision-making, strategic thinking, and resilience in the face of defeat, are uniquely positioned to resist this encroaching control. The very skills honed in virtual environments become a form of “training” against the manipulative tactics of these technological forces.
The Aon line of laptops, therefore, is presented not just as high-performance gaming hardware, but as essential equipment for this “rebellion.” These are the “rogue nodes” in the system, empowering individuals to maintain their autonomy and critical thinking in a world increasingly shaped by algorithms and centralized power.
“Null Terminus” signifies a point of decisive action and independence from this system. It underscores the idea that Aon gamers are not passive consumers but active participants in shaping their technological future.
Ultimately, the Aon Gaming manifesto aims to connect with gamers on a deeper level, validating their passion and positioning their skills as vital in a meaningful struggle for individual agency against the tide of unchecked technological advancement. It’s a call to arms, inviting gamers to recognize their potential as a force of resistance within the digital realm, empowered by technology that respects their privacy and freedom.

Good os for low end gaming
I'm currently using Arch Linux as my daily driver and Windows 10 for gaming. I want to replace Windows 10 with a Linux distro that's better suited for gaming. However, I have a legacy NVIDIA card, and I’ve faced some issues with gaming on Arch—like freezes and crashes—which made me give up on troubleshooting.
Now, I'm thinking about trying Bazzite or Linux Mint for gaming, but I’m not sure if gaming will work well on Linux. Should I stick with Windows for gaming instead?
