Steam Machine said to feature Half-Life 3 as a launch title, rumor claims insiders are “adamant”
Bottles appreciation post !! (little bit for my old laptop also)
So i have a 6 year old low end laptop ( 4 gb ram, intel 620 integrated gpu, i3 7th gen cpu) , with linux mint. I wanted to play some games (low end obviously). That's when i found this.
And it has been a game changer !! Installing and playing windows games is so easy using bottles. I have installed gta sa, far cry 3, nfs hot pursuit, and cod-mw3 so far. There was only a little bit problem with nfs though, where its repack installer showed some memory allocation error related to nmap ( since i have 4 gigs ram only). so i had to install that in other pc and transferred the folder to mine and then it easily ran using bottles.
There has been no problems with any of the games and they have been running smoothly at high quality.
I love my old laptop and linux mint. It wouldn't have survived even 2 years on windows, let alone doing these out of the box tasks.

Dayz launcher window using tiny UI
I can play Dayz on Fedora 43 just fine but the launcher is very difficult to use as the UI is tiny. Trying to search for servers is almost impossible.
I know there are a few third party linux launchers for Dayz but I don't want to trust some random script on the internet. I'd rather fix the built in launcher.
Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Ubisoft Connect - failing to connect (ironically)
Hey folks.
Now I’ve tried the usual avenues of solving this issue, but at this point I’ve tried so many things and there doesn’t seem to be any clear answers online that I can fine.
Long story short; I picked up all the Assassins creed games for ludicrously cheap in the steam sale, and already blasted through AC1 and 2, but now I’m on brotherhood.
It worked fine for the first hour or so of gameplay, but then I turned my computer off, and now it’s not launching.
I’ve deleted the compatdata directory for the game, regenerated it, uninstalled and reinstalled, used proton tricks to try to manually install the Ubisoft connect client…
And I get tantalising windows where the launcher actually launches - but then the game isn’t reading my controller input.
From what I can gather it’s that the Ubisoft connect client claims it can’t connect to Uplay servers when I look into its logs. But my internet is solid. I also tried using my tethered cellphone and using a wired connection - and it briefly worked first time I used it.
Basically it seems like it can’t see the internet or _*something*_
I’m at a loss.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Anyone remembers tux of math command game?
This game was very popular in the last 2 decades in primary schools. Allowed students to practice arithmetic. I tried downloading it to teach my nephew mathematics and it didn't work. anyone who knows similar educational games? Bonus points if it's customisable and open source. I would want similar shooting mechanics in English and science.

I built a Chrome Dino–style game for the linux terminal.
I made termrex, a CLI terminal game inspired by the Google Chrome Dino offline game.
I’m looking for testing and feedback, especially from Linux and macOS users.
Any feedback on terminal compatibility, bugs, or gameplay is welcome.

No USB-C to HDMI 2.1 cable supporting VRR in Linux?
I saw Cable Matters VRR7100-based DP-to-HDMI2.1 and DP-to-HDMI2.1 female converter using Chrontel CH7218 chip that have working VRR in Linux (with some kernel patch).
I have Cable Matters VRR7100-based USB-C to HDMI2.1 cable, with this spyder_fw_usbc_cm_7-02-120_35th.fullrom firmware. The cable has working VRR in Windows, with 4K120Hz+10bitHDR, but no VRR in Linux.
I have enforced FreeSync activation by hard-coding the kernel DRM code, but it keeps flickering sometime when switching vertical frequency, or going out of sync.
I could not find any USB-C to HDMI2.1 cable (or female converter) that has working VRR in Linux. I use the cable for AMD iGPU which I use for the main display in Linux (dGPU is for Windows VM VFIO and Grahpics/Computation offload only). I have no idea whether USB-C (DP Alt.) to DP converter will work for the above DP-to-HDMI2.1 cables as the USB-C to DP conversion is not just wiring.
Can you guys recommend me a solution or product? Any suggestion would be greatly helpful. Thanks.

Missing sound in some games.
My audio works perfectly fine pretty much everywhere, however in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R (steam), 3rd Strike, and Jojo HFTF (fightcade) I get nothing. I also tried DOA2 on fightcade and it worked?

How much performance lose is there on direct x titles
Hey all I’m debating switching to pop os on my main desktop and I’m just wondering how much Performance you lose in direct x titles and is there any issues with nvidia on Linux as I’ve only recently started using Linux on my laptop.

Issues with Valve Index and SteamVR
I recently bought a used Valve Index, because I wanted to play No Man's Sky with it. Unfortunately, that doesn't work at all. I briefly get the small preview window indicating that the game is supposedly starting. I can see the GPU powering on initially. However, no program launches. After a few seconds, it sends me back to the home screen.
I really don't understand why the game won't start. I don't get any error message, not even it didn't work. I've already tried searching online for the reasons, but unfortunately I can't find a suitable answer.
I've already switched the Proton version to Experimental and made sure it's installed. I've also switched Steam to Beta. Neither of these things helped.
Gemini and ChatGPT seem to be delusional about this issue, and I keep noticing that nothing useful comes out of this question either.
The second problem is that I have no sound at all, and none of the tested distributions detect a speaker. Only the microphone is listed.
Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps even some personal experience with this? Is there really no other solution besides buying Windows again?
So far I've tried it on Fedora 43, Bazzite and CachyOS.
My PC have a AMD Ryzen 9 7900 CPU and a RTX 5060 Ti GPU with 16GB VRAM.
Many thanks for help!

Probably a FAQ some where but i kind of wanted to make a thred.
Simply put i'd like to know, is there a distro out there that works with like 99% of windows stuff out there?
And i mean actually work, not Download this flatpack run this trough wine install another flatpack turn on Virtualization in bios Partition your Discs into 7 seporate parts for different instances of windows and then switch between em as needed.
Im sorry if this is a bit of a disrespectfull post / question, but i've tried to make this work only to nuke my entire PC yesterday and went back to windows 10 because shi is just easier to deal with.
I dont have the time or energy to become a linux wizard.
Im a simple guy who wants to enjoy new and old games just for the simple fact of enjoying them.
Not spend 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get my neache translation tool to work on linux... seriously ... that shi is impossible. (the program it self is not important the entire ordeal of the things that worked for me in the past simply not being available or outright refuseing to work without learning wizardry is simply maddening.)
If this question is anwered some where allready i'd appreciate a link to it before this gets deleted.

Chivalry 2 giving anti-cheat error after update
Chivalry 2 got a Christmas update that didn't really change anything but after this update I started getting the error "EOS AntiCheatClient Violation detected. Type: ForbiddenSystemConfiguration. Message: Could not locate game executable entry in the catalogue. (Chivalry2-Win64-Shipping.exe)". Also I'm on CachyOS and I have the game installed with Epic Games through Heroic Games Launcher, I also tested other proton versions and nothing changed.

Best gpu to use on linux? Rx 7600 or rtx 5050
I've saved up some money to upgrade from my integrated graphics to a dedicated gpu, and i see a lot of people talking about the rx 7600 and the rtx 5050 as good budget cards. From what i saw off benchmarks, the 5050 performs better in most games, but i know that nvidia gpus can perform worse on linux, and amd gpus can perform better on linux (due to drivers and other stuff). Qhat do you guys recommend i buy between those two?
