Anyone experiencing issues with Steam Remote Play to Steamdeck?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 11:13pm

When I try to use Steam remote play from my desktop PC to my steam deck, the game will run fine for like 10 minutes. Then the graphics will get very grainy and start stuttering, the inputs will start to lag a lot. Eventually the "lost connection" symbol in the bottom right will start showing up. Now, my steamdeck is on wifi, so understandably I thought it was a connection issue. So I ran an ethernet cable to my steamdeck dock and tried again. Still witnessed the same behavior.

In troubleshooting this I've tried:

Kernel 6.15.0-rc3-1-mainline

Kernel 6.13.8.arch1-1

Making sure hardware encoding/decoding is off in the remote play options

physically bring the steam deck closer to the desktop PC

Ethernet Powerline adapter

Games: CyberPunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds

All of the above still had the same connection issue problem.

Now the interesting thing is, I used to be on Linux Mint a couple months ago. I remember being able to remote play on linux mint perfectly to my steamdeck. Mainly played monster hunter wilds. I also have a windows partition. I tried remote play there and it works perfectly as well.

I tried searching for any problems with recent kernels and steam remote play but haven't seen anything recent. I've also tried about 3 separate times to get moonlight working but it just didn't work for me. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else is having problems if it's just a "me" thing

System:

Ryzen 7 3800X

AMD 9070XT

32GB RAM

OS: EndeavourOS

kernel: 6.14.3-arch1-1

KDE Plasma 6.3.4, Wayland

Game runs on Heroic but not on Lutris or Bottles: why?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 11:02pm

I know that a Steam native version exists, but I'm trying to run SuperHot which has been given for free by Amazon Prime. The given binaries are only for Windows, unfortunately. I've been able to launch and play it effortlessly through Heroic (GE-Proton9-27) but no luck with Lutris or Bottles, even though I got the same Proton version running. I tried disabling UMU on Heroic and the game runs anyway. What could be a reason for this difference of behavior?

Infinite Warfare not working

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 10:27pm

I installed it from Fitgirl Repacks via Torrent with Transmision. tried to executed it as I would do normally like any other game, testing it with the lowest graphics settings, but it crashes with no error popups after some seconds of starting the first mission. I use Linux Mint with KDE Plasma, Intel procesor with Iris Xe Graphics and 8GB of RAM. also, shader load takes so long that I believe it's something about PortProton or GPU. what can I do in this case?

Which distro to install?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 9:37pm

Hey there,

I have an older AMD CPU machine with an RTX 3060 running Windows 10 in my living room. The motherboard on it doesn't support Windows 11 (Windows 10 support is being discontinued in October) and I don't feel like spending money right now to build a new rig.

I have another powerful machine that I moonlight into for more intense games. I was looking into installing Bazzite. Is that the one everyone recommends, or should I just install mint or something? I do want to install steam on it if possible.

I just never have installed Steam on a Linux machine, so I'm not entirely sure how many of my games will work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Performance on RTX 4060/4070 Laptops

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 8:36pm

I want to buy an RTX 4060 or 4070 laptop next month. I know they kinda suck on laptops compared to desktops, but it's the only thing I can afford. I want to use Debian on it. Any idea how Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok perform on these laptops under Linux?

Looking for a Distro with fairly decent EA App functionality

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 8:07pm

I've been looking to switch my laptop to Linux, so a friend recommended Manjaro GNOME. I like the distro, but I'm having major issues trying to get the EA App to function. I used Litrus but the EA App would crash typically within 3-5 minutes of opening. From my research, I know that the EA App has its fair share of issues with Linux but I've seen people get it running in multiple videos and tutorials without this crashing issue. I sadly don't know too much about what I'm doing there and have had difficulty finding support for troubleshooting it on Manjaro. I figured I'd look into a different distro since I haven't really invested much into Manjaro. Any recommendations on a different distro to try?

Logitech G25 wheel help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 7:48pm

I have a Logitech G25 (with all pedals and shifter) and on Windows, I use the Logitech Gaming Software to use my wheel for Assetto Corsa only. I don't use the wheel for anything else. I was wondering if there was anything else I could use for Fedora Linux that would allow me to use my wheel on Linux?

Steam DPI question

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 6:54pm

When I launch Baldur's Gate 3 and the launcher pops up the DPI or scaling of it is extremely small. I'm running a 4k monitor and have the launch options to make the steam client itself the proper scaling but I can't figure out to do with for games. Also, the mouse size in game is super small and probably connected to the launcher settings.

How to fix this? I tried using my lutris and using custom DPI settings but I can't seem to get it to connect to the proton experimental that Iauch with.

Nvidia card power draw lowering and causing fps drop in games using monitor

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 6:48pm

Hello, I have a dell notebook, here are my specs:

Kernel Linux 6.14.3-2-cachyos
Packages 1921 (pacman)
Shell fish 4.0.2

DE KDE Plasma 6.3.4
Window Manager KWin (Wayland)
Login Manager sddm 0.21.0 (Wayland)

CPU 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i5-13450HX (16) @ 4.60 GHz
GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Max-Q / Mobile [Discrete]
GPU Intel Raptor Lake-S UHD Graphics @ 1.45 GHz [Integrated]
Vulkan 1.4.303 - NVIDIA [570.144]

Display(s) 2560x1440 @ 165 Hz in 27" [External, HDR] *
Display(s) 1920x1080 @ 120 Hz in 16" [Built-in]

I am having a problem for quite a white, when I am gaming o my notebook, there is no problem at all, but when using my monitor, I noticed that the fps would drop significantly to 20-30 range for some seconds, and go back to normal, and this would go on and on, this would happen even on low end games. Investigating this i found that the temperature was normal, but the power draw was fluctuating when this fps drops occured:

In The witcher, using as exemple, in game it would be at 90 W or something, but it would drop to 30 W or something. I tried a lot of things and am kinda lost right now, if anyone got a clue, I would greatly appreciate it.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 6:46pm

Okay guys, so I have just installed Linux Mint coming from Windows 10. I have installed newest Nvidia driver 570 open, I use Proton Experimental and also I tried Proton 9.0-4 and both World of Tanks and Warframe are running between 7 and 15 fps. While I was running them on Windows 10 between 80/100/110 fps.

I have Intel i5 10300H, and Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650Ti graphics card. Please any suggestions, I am new to Linux and idk how to solve the problem.

Sorry if you guys find this as stupid question but I'm new to Linux and I have just started learning all the stuff. Thanks anyway.

Best Linux Gaming Laptop with New AMD iGPUs (890M / Ryzen AI 300)?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Apr 2025 - 5:09pm

Looking for a laptop primarily for Linux gaming, targeting models with the powerful new AMD Radeon 890M or the Ryzen AI 300 iGPUs (like the "AI 9 HX 370") for their great open-source driver potential.

My Needs:

  • Use Case: Linux Gaming
  • Target GPU: Radeon 890M or new Ryzen AI 300 series ).
  • Must-Have: Good Linux compatibility (Wi-Fi, sleep, etc.).
  • Form Factor: Traditional laptop, 14"-16". (Not a tablet like the Flow Z13).
  • Budget: ~$1500 USD

Questions:

  1. Any success running Linux (especially gaming) on laptops with these iGPUs? Which models?
  2. Heard reliable reports (good or bad) about specific models?
  3. Any recommendations based on my needs and budget?
  4. Known Linux compatibility issues to watch out for with these new platforms?

Appreciate any leads or experiences! Thanks!
