How to use DualShock4 with proton-GE/WINE without using steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 9:49pm

So I know steam uses steaminput to emulate DS4's inputs to xinputs. I wonder if there is a way to replicate that for wine games. Any tweak or tips?

Low GPU utilization, bad gaming performance.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 8:40pm

TLDR:

New to Linux. Switched from Kubuntu 25.10 → 24.04 to try to fix gaming performance, but the issue persists. Games (Death Stranding & Overwatch, shown in video) have inconsistent performance with low GPU usage. It even seems like a CPU bottleneck (RTX 5070 Ti + Ryzen 7 9800X3D), which shouldn’t happen—especially since only the game is running. Using Proton Experimental, GameMode, and latest proprietary drivers. Minecraft runs perfectly.

Just a heads up—I’m relatively new to Linux. I was previously running Kubuntu 25.10 with Plasma 6, but I recently switched to Kubuntu 24.04 LTS with Plasma 5 to see if it would improve my gaming performance.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the OS version was the issue. My performance is inconsistent: sometimes games run flawlessly, but other times my GPU utilization drops significantly, leading to poor performance. I’m using Proton Experimental, GameMode, and the latest proprietary drivers, so I’m not sure what’s causing the problem.

It also seems like my CPU might be bottlenecking my GPU, which doesn’t make much sense given my setup (RTX 5070 Ti and Ryzen 7 9800X3D), especially since the game is the only thing running. That’s what makes this behavior even more confusing.

What’s odd is that the issue comes and goes, but overall it’s noticeable enough to impact gameplay. I know my system should be delivering much smoother performance.

The video I’m showing in the post is from Death Stranding and Overwatch.

As a side note, Minecraft runs perfectly without any issues.

A project to make games compatible with Bazzit OS (Steam OS) work because of their cheating entity. - Karlen

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 8:11pm

I want to do a project to try and find a solution to bypass, to remove the barrier permanently, and I'm going to propose this solution to Valve so they can develop it further and put it in Steam OS. To make games like Battlefield 6 and Fortnite work on Steam OS, can you give me some ideas? Can you help me do this?

What distros are you use?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 8:01pm

For example: I use Fedora not Rawhide, not branched,Stable. I like this choice, because this distro have stability and new technologies. For me its good because I'm wanted more stable distro than Arch, which I'm prefered. And copr with RPM Fusion also good.

Wine 11, ntsyncm and dxvk 1.10.3

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 7:52pm

Hello. So, I'm 99% sure that what I want to do isn't going to be possible, but asking here just in case!

Running cachyos (everything updated) on an old MacBook Air 7,2 with an Intel HD 6000 GPU and, for an old, underpowered laptop, it does a reasonable job playing some old games using Lutris.

For the most part I'm usinglutris-GE-Proton8-26-x86_64 as my wine runner, and I downgrade DXVK to 1.10.3 as this graphics chip doesn't support Vulkan 1.3. To get the best performance I drop the resolution down to 1280x800 and turn on FSR.

I recently tried an OpenGL game with proton-cachyos as the runner, DXVK disabled, and PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 set, and the performance increase was incredible. But, as far as I can see, I can only ever do this with OpenGL games, not DirectX games, because there's no option with proton-cachyos to downgrade the DXVK version to 1.10.3.

I tried manually copying over the DXVK 1.10.3 dlls into my wine prefix and using DLL overrides to try and get proton-cachyos to use them, but no dice. I also tried spoofing proton-cachyos by setting MESA_VK_VERSION_OVERRIDE=1.3 - still no dice. In both cases I get

err: Failed to initialize DXVK. System.PlatformNotSupportedException: Video driver not supported at Xalia.Sdl.WindowingSystem.Create () [0x0003e] in <743e8bdcd9c54484ad89463ed4e626f6>:0 at Xalia.Sdl.WindowingSystem.get_Instance () [0x00007] in <743e8bdcd9c54484ad89463ed4e626f6>:0 at Xalia.Ui.UiMain..ctor () [0x00027] in <743e8bdcd9c54484ad89463ed4e626f6>:0 at Xalia.MainClass.Init (Xalia.Gudl.GudlStatement[] config) [0x0001b] in <743e8bdcd9c54484ad89463ed4e626f6>:0

which implies to me that a later version of DXVK is being used.

Is there any way to get Wine 11 with ntsync and DXVK 1.10.3 to play nice?

Thanks.

Will I be able to play Pragmata on day one ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 7:44pm

Hey guys ! Sorry it's kind of a dumb question. It's been a while since I played a game on release day, and in the meantime, I moved to Linux. So I was wondering if I would have to wait a bit for proton to fully support the game or will it be good right from the start ?

Thanks in advance for your answers !

Tarkov on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 7:19pm

Hi all,

I switched to Cachy for daily use since like 2 weeks ago, and i have been loving it, literally every game i play works flawlessly and with very very minimal FPS loss, i beat Tarkov before i made the switch (Got Kappa and ending), but soon they will be releasing seasonal wipes and i want to play them potentially, i checked ProtonDB for Tarkov but the last update was from 1 month ago from people only commenting about PVE (I play only PVP).

I was playing SPT with a friend and that works fine on Linux but i dont know if base Tarkov works, since this is quite literally the only game that has a risk of not working on Linux for me, every other game as i said works fine, if anyone knows if it can be played or not much would be appreciated

Sims 4 suddenly at like 3fps

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 7:11pm

I'm playing Sims 4 through Heroic launcher. That's been working fine but today I decided to update my Nvidia driver (to 590 open, I have a Nvidia GPU) because I've had problems with another game and I've read that that could help. Now Sims 4 is veeeery laggy (like 3-4 fps) and switching back to the old driver version (580 open) does not resolve the problem.

Some Specs:
Running on Linux mint 22.3

Kernel version 6.17.0-19

GPU: GeForce GTX 1660 Super

16gb ram

Does switching between driver versions change something else in the system that I didn't know I had to change back?

Arc b580 and gaming on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 6:55pm

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new in the Linux community considering I switched to garuda linux a few days ago as my first distro (I was on mint for less then 24hrs since I've found it pretty limiting).

I was wondering if the reason my for gpu usage being at 100% and low fps is caused by intel being pretty new to the gpu world or if I'm doing something wrong. Some games work completely fine, others I can't even play anymore like I did on Windows 11.

I'm on the latest version of mesa drivers, kernel and everything else.

Also I don't know if it's worth noting but my whole steam library is on my hdd which is ntfs format and the games get read from there but my system is on a ext4 partition on my ssd.

The reason for this is obviously me not wanting to download everything again but if any of you think that might be the issue I will do so.

I tested cs2 in both native linux version and proton experimental with the same results (40~ fps in menu alone) and I made sure it was ran in vulkan.

Any help highly appreciated and I will be happy to answer any questions you might have to further help me with this problem.

What's next for NVIDIA?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 6:41pm

Now that NVIDIA has released their 595 drivers, what is left for Linus to close the gap on Windows performance-wise?

What should I be looking/waiting for to see the performance benefits, and will I need to do anything to gain them? Or is the performance already fixed?

I built a simple Cheat Engine SpeedHack–like tool on Linux (ZBLZ-engine)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27 Mar 2026 - 6:14pm

I’ve been messing around with low-level stuff and decided to try building my own mini “Cheat Engine Speed-hack” from scratch, mainly as a learning project and cos i searched A LOT for a program that do this on Linux and i didn't found one.
I also made a page for it (is on Spanish):
https://maaron00670.github.io/ZBLZ-Engine/#inicio-rapido

It’s called ZBLZ-engine, and right now it can do basic speedhack and process interaction. The goal isn’t to compete with existing tools, just to understand how they actually work under the hood and have this with all the rest of my tools.

Still very early and kinda messy

I thought it might be interesting for someone that knows cheat engine or something.

If anyone’s curious or has ideas on what to add next, I’d love to hear it.

Here are some pictures of it:
