Minecraft Datapacks in Arch Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 6:37pm

I play minecraft on arch linux and i wanted to install the falling trees mod for fabric to it. The mod needs to have a datapack installed with it to work now (starting from 1.21). When creating a new world, i press the open datapacks folder and it doesnt open the folder. How do i fix this?

A bit lost in all the GPU options

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 6:12pm

Hi /r/linux_gaming! It's been more than a decade since I last shopped for a GPU, and since this is my first time buying one for a linux system and since my situation is a bit more unique this time around, I figure I'd ask some help here.

I am buying a GPU to be used as an eGPU on a linux system. The GPU will run over PCIe (over oculink), so that should not be a problem. Since my laptop has an AMD CPU (Ryzen 7 7840HS) and a built-in GPU it seemed reasonable to me to go for an AMD GPU. As I am planning to game on an external 4K monitor, I looked at the top of the line, which seemed to be the RX 7900XTX.

Now that AMD is announcing its new GPUs I am wondering if this is still the best decision. Based on what I've read, it seems that the RX 7900 XTX will remain AMDs top model, even when the new cards come out, except for games that rely heavily on ray-tracing. Now, my questions:

  • Will the RX7900XTX remain the best AMD has to offer for the next few months? Or is there a reasonable chance one of the new cards will be better than it overall?
  • Is the price of the RX7900XTX expected to drop with the announcement of the new GPUs? Or would it stay the same since it's not really contending with them
  • If one of the newer GPUs is a better option in the end, can I expect them to be support on Linux right out of the gate? Or would I need to wait for newer kernels to be released before the GPU is usable? If I need to wait for a newer kernel, how usable are the GPUs in the meantime? Slow but usable? Or just completely unusable in the first place?
  • Given that I have a linux machine and a AMD iGPU, are the nvidia cards worth considering at all? Or is it just not worth the hassle? I get that gaming on 4K requires quite a beefy card and it would be nice to play titles like baldurs gate, cyberpunk, the witcher 3, ... at high to ultra settings, at at least 60 FPS. I don't require a card that is guaranteed to handle all the latest games for the next few years.

Can't have red dead redemption 2 to work on kubuntu 24.04

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 3:14pm

Hello everyone,

I'm not a gamer, I just was suggested this game to pass through a moment so I'm no expert in gaming platforms and stuff.

I installed it through Steam without many issues, when I start it though it doesn't just lag, pics are moving like 1 every 3 seconds and I'm stuck in the loading of the story

I tried with proton experimental and proton GE, same result

I have kubuntu 24.04, kernel 6.8.0-51-generic

My hardware specs are

CPU: 8 × AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with Radeon Vega Graphic

GPU: AMD Radeon Vega 11 Graphics

RAM 32 GB

Any help please, so I didn't waste the money of the game?

Thank you!

Has anyone ever hit shift tab while playing CS2 and lost their sound in game as a result? I've tried recreating the accident.I've tried messing with my sound settings, reinstalling it, nothing works to turn it back on. Everything else works fine in other games.

Do any Games actually work for you with Nvidia Frame Generation? Please state your runtime Infos in thread.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 2:42pm

Hi all,

I have been trying to get DLSS Frame Generation working on my 4080, however, no luck so far, see:
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1hv2w9l/dlss_frage_generation_in_dragon_age_veilguard_dll/

Therefore, I am looking for tangible examples of which game actually works in combination with which wine runtime environment.

I would appreciate if you could post the following info:

Game: Game Title here
Launched via: Bottles Flatpak/Steam/Lutris/etc.
Runtime Environment Version: ge-proton-9.22 etc.

GTA3 Tightened Thrice keeps crashing upon Joey's Mission.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 1:54pm

I have this mod to gta3 which makes everything 10x harder and it works just fine on windows so it's not a game issue. I tried playing it using steam proton by adding it as a non-steam game. It works for the most part very smooth, until it crashes when i drop misty to Joey's place.

Someone made a post here 2 years, still no real answer to this problem.

Counter Strike 2 server tool?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 1:54pm

Hello kind people!

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a server blocker for CS2? There was one I used to have before I made the switch as certain regions have very toxic behavior and it's something I'd really like to have here as well.

How can I make Proton work?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Jan 2025 - 12:20pm

I'm brand new to gaming on Linux, I use Ubuntu 24.10. I use Steam and Epic, I got Rocket League working out of the box using Lutris. My problem is that I'm unable to make the Steam+Proton combo work.

Any Proton version does the same thing, it says running for a minute or so then the button goes back to Play but no window ever opens up. To be more specific let's take Marvel Rivals as a case. I know it's compatible because I've seen others run it.

What am I missing here?
