[Linux Mint/Gnome] Performance Hitches When Using Gaming Mouse Side Buttons

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 7:46pm

I use Gnome on Mint 22. I'd need to double-check the Gnome version, though.

I use a Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse when playing Lord of the Rings Online, Final Fantasy XIV, or World of Warcraft, and I've noticed brief freezes whenever using the number pad buttons on my mouse to trigger abilities. I don't experience this issue when using the keyboard to trigger abilities or in other DEs like Cinnamon or KDE Plasma. However, I prefer Gnome overall as a DE and would like to continue using it. Does anyone know what might be causing these performance hitches and how I might resolve them?

Heavy audio crackling in The Last Of Us Part 1

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 6:56pm

As the title says, I constantly get audio crackling when I use the game. I've tried a few things: changing the sample rate in the ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf and ~/.config/pulse/dameon.conf files, changing the latency in the game settings, using Proton Experimental and activating mono mode, but I haven't really had any results. This is the only game where I've encountered this problem, and apart from the sound, the game runs normally (except for the main menu, which has completely buggy textures). Does anyone have any other suggestions for solving this problem?

Cursor won't stay on one monitor in Fallout 4 with Heroic Games Launcher

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 6:49pm

I recently got into modding Fallout 4 (GOG version, running in Heroic Games Launcher) on Linux and I'm noticing a really weird an annoying issue where my cursor isn't staying in my Fallout 4 window and keeps moving across my monitors causing me to click on things on my secondary display. I checked to see if Skyrim had this issue, which it didn't, so it seems like the issue is unique to Fallout 4 (both with and without script extender). I tried editing a few ini files to ensure Fallout is launching in fullscreen mode but those haven't worked. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I searching online but I can't find it anywhere else.

Gaming Living Room PC, should I go AMD

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 5:30pm

Hi!

I gave a gaming PC hooked to my living room tv. Current build is a 5800X3D + 3060TI.

Currently running windows with Steam big picture mode at boot.

The features important to me : - TV is an OLED 4K/120hz display, the card/os/driver must support HDR. - Sound bar / surrounds are connected with eARC on the TV, PC must be able to pass 5.1 audio to the sound bar (had issues with AMD in the past). - Currently have 6 Xbox controllers on a Xbox wireless dongle.

My Christmas gift to myself was supposed to be a 4070TI Super, but I’m considering bazzite os to replace windows. If I buy an AMD card can I expect everything (not talking about games, already looked what I’m playing on proton db) to just work including and HDR ?

I still think DLSS is superior to FSR and I would prefer an Nvidia card but all my research found posts from 1y+ ago saying that Steam Game Mode will come soon when nvidia patch their driver (which they never did).

Any Parsec alternatives?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 5:08pm

Is there any remote desktop for playing games on Linux? Aside from Steam.

I especially interested in: - Being able to login in SDDM remotely (I can probably stiwtch to login screen of Plasma itself if it's necessary) - Being able to use desktop as well - Wayland, if possible

If it can do that, I don't care if it's self-hosted or hard to setup.

Any Place Where I can Buy AMD Graphic Gaming Laptops

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 4:36pm

Hey, I like linux and what they do, the thing is that my laptop have a Nvidia GPU and they dont typically run as well as AMD's for linux. I ask if there is a store online that might sell gaming laptops with very good AMD GPU's. Bounus points if they sell in South Africa where I am.

Issues with 8bitdo gamepad when wired

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 4:22pm

So, I have this SN30 Pro, which works great with Bluetooth, but whenever I have to charge it, the mappings are messed up.

If it's wired in XInput mode, A/B and X/Y are swapped. If wired in DInput mode, LB/LT and RB/RT are swapped... or at least I assume that's what is happening since it can only output LB/RB.

I have tried to follow this guide on hwdb files, just to get stuck like this person, thanks to the scancodes.

I think I found other possible solutions, but unfortunately they all seem to increase latency, which I would prefer to avoid.

Just Installed GameMode and Test Failed?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 3:49pm

I just installed Feral Interactive GameMode using the instructions for Ubuntu/Debian on Linux Mint 22. I used the provided terminal commands on the Github page to install the dependencies, then built and installed it as instructed.

Upon testing to see if GameMode would work with the provided command:gamemoded -t it produced this ERROR: Failed! message as attached below:

https://preview.redd.it/rx5q9axa730e1.png?width=1222&format=png&auto=webp&s=1095a1f77a51c30a8a9b73a52b2637c3a9ad45d6

Did I do something wrong, should I uninstall and reinstall? Or is this normal and expected?

Issues with trying to play Modded RDR2 (Red Dead Redemption 2) on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 3:07pm

I am new to Linux, literally downloaded it yesterday. Before going on Linux, I downloaded RDR2 and mods on WIndows. Base game works like charm, but when I try to add DLL override, the games crashes.

I use 3 mod loaders, Lenny's Mod Loader, ASI Loader and Scripthook

I thought 'Some mods may cause the game to crash', and so, I put all mods away from RDR2, and tried to run each Mod Loader, but, it just crashes.

When I tried to run just dinput8, the game atleast 'started' (It was black screen for split second before it crashed)

I do not know what to do to fix this, so, if someone knows, please do share

GOG Galaxy with Lutris is slow / lags, any advice to improve it?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 2:49pm

I play my GOG games using GOG Galaxy, I installed it using the script provided in the Lutris website. I don't use the GOG launcher built in Lutris because it just does not work, no matter how many times I disconnect and try to reconnect, my games just don't appear, I don't know what is going on there.

The GOG Galaxy takes about 5 minutes to launch, and once I'm in, it scrolls up and down slowly, or has small freezes / lags.

I'm currently in Arch, but I experienced this with Manjaro, Fedora 39 and 40, and Linux Mint. (I have been trying different distros these past two years).

For those who have experienced this and made their GOG Galaxy run smoother, any advice?

The runner I am using is lutris-GE-Proton8-27-LoL-x86_64.

Low fps on External monitor - Laptop monitor works fine..

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 1:54pm

Hi all,
I'm hoping that one of you might help me out with this,

For some reason when I'm using an external monitor i get real low frames with the UFOTest, maybe this test is not the most reliable but the screen does seem to lag.

When it comes to reasons i'm betting that is related to my current drivers or lack of wayland support.(which I'm not 100% sure since I get 240fps(with the laptop screen) on the UFOTest vs the 28 with my main monitor)

Details about my system:
Distro: Fedora 41 (silverblue, Bazzite)
Graphics: 4080m 565.57.01 (I know... this probably wouldn't happen if I had an AMD)
Screen: Rox Strix xg32u
Resolution: 4k 144hz (yes lowering the resolution does seem to increase the frame rates but not by a lot, meaning it still lags.)

NOTE: Either with gnome extension or supergfxctl, I'm stuck in Hybrid mode, changes do not stick, no matter what I do.

Best kernel for performance

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10 Nov 2024 - 1:04pm

Hi, i have a few questions which may sound stupid but please help me out

Which is better ubuntu or debian and does it matter if its latest version or not (some told me debian 11 is better some says ubuntu 20,04 is better & upgrading to latest version of either of them reduces perfomance)

About kernel versions i have no idea which is the best which has the best perfomance etc.. until now i have found some xanmod.. clearlinux... linux generic these with some research have seen that are the best for gaming servers etcc

What im trying to do is host a dedicated game server and idk which do i use i keep switching kernels noticed that with xanmod the startup of the game server is slower but has a great perfomance and with linux generic is faster but seems bad perfomance...

if you dont know the difference in perfomance is there any command which i can check the differences they have so i notice which has the best perfomance?

i have this cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900KF CPU @ 3.60GHz

currently i have ubuntu 20.04 and im using linux generic 5.15 as kernel

i would really appreciate ur help...
