Linux gaming on an ancient GPU?
Friend's GPU fried, I gave them my old HD 7870 but we can't figure out how to make it properly run stuff on Linux. Radeon kernel driver seems useless and on AMDGPU with enabled support for Southern Islands cards the performance is atrocious in every game we tested with Proton. Is there some kind of an additional tweak or are those GPUs just bad for it on Linux? I had an R7 360 in past and it worked fine with AMDGPU. Card is definitely okay, I tested it on a Windows installation.

Apps with no internet
Hello
I've been trying to get heroic games launcher to work on my steam deck and when I launch it it just says it's got no internet connection. I posted on their discord and they're saying it's failing all it's connectivity calls. The discord app is also very slow and doesn't actually seem to load.
Chrome and Firefox seem to work fine.
The discover store says other people are having this error.
Flat seal says heroic should have access to my network and I even ran a reset command I was given on their discord.
Just wondering if anyone had experienced this and had a solution?
Thanks

Can this be done?
I'm looking to switch to Linux soon once I'm more understanding of Linux itself. I'm currently testing 3 different distros through VMWare. Kubuntu, Ubuntu and trying to get KDE Plasma to work (not working so far).
I'm also moving off of Steam with the exception of FO76. Basically I'd like more control and less intrusion. I also like owning the games I buy.
My current games from GOG are Oblivion, Skyrim AE, Fallout 3, NV, and FO4.
My only Steam game is FO76. If I could fully drop Steam, I would.
I also run NFS Pro Street, Shift and Shift 2 off exe.
Would all of this be feasible? If a different distro is needed I am willing to test it out too.

Unable to get RE2 Remake modifications to work
I've been using Linux for the past 6 months and 99% of things that I needed to do worked completely flawlessly.
Yesterday, I decided to have the want of installing some modifications for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Checking the documentation for the mod, it tells me to use the "Fluffy mod manager", which is a windows only program, however, I just put it in Steam so it can detect my game files easier and ran it with Proton.
After placing the modification in the Mods folder of the manager and running the game, it completely freezes when trying to load game data, and it freezes in a really unfriendly way - I can't alt+tab to any other program, alt+f4 does completely nothing, so I just need to wait around a minute until I get automatically taken back to the login screen of the computer. Not an expert or anything, but I think that means that Cinnamon completely crashed.
Attempts of finding information about the usage of the mod manager on Linux have taken me absolutely nowhere, so here I am writing this post - maybe someone has experience with this and can help me.

Deep Rock Galactic has a huge new season coming, and you can replay old seasons
I'm thinking of moving over to Linux after the recent Windows Recall announcement
However I have some worries about the change. I tested running mint on my older gaming laptop and did enjoy the change. My worry comes from the amount of work to get games to work on Linux. Most games i got running by using the steam proton layer, however there are some games that are not on steam which worry me.
I mostly play on World of Warcraft private servers. I specifically spend most of my time playing on the server r/Turtlewow, which means a custom client which is updated regularly. I got it running also through steam, but when updates came around i found i had to use windows to download the update. The redo all my add-ons and copy the settings from the old folders.
I am technically savvy, the challenge is something I'm willing to take on. I'm thinking either running Fedora or Arch. Mint is nice, but I wanna try other distros as well. I heard Lutris is a good tool to use, will it work with the patching turtle wow does? Also will Nvidia overlay work with screen recording?
All tips and tricks are welcome :)

No launching games in Steam
Yesterday i install steam from the multilib repository in arch linux, and i went to olay some games the dwarf fortress launch in the frist attempt, but i think after enabling proton it wont launch again(i am not using proton on dwarf fortress because it should run out of the box) and i have app armor i say it because yesterday it was blocking the steam-runtime process to acess some process and it wasent launching(it is fixed). When i launch a game it show "launching..." and after that it closses and the play button is green again, nothing shows and nothing is launch. Anybody knows what it could be?
Update 1: I forget to mention but i use, hyprland(wayland), the kernel Linux Linux(Arch) and a Nvidia Card with the version 550 from nvidia drivers.

Weird cacodemon pop up when starting doom
When I try to start either doom 1993 or doom 2 I get this pop up. This happens on my x230 with opensuse TW and on my custom built pc with Garuda Linux. The issue persists on Wayland and xorg.

Failed to load the anti-cheat module
Hi,
I don't understand why this game has to give me this error.
I have tried playing on Windows and everything works correctly.
I don't want the same error to happen on other games that use Easy Anti-Cheat.
Can you help me?
Thank you
