Issue with game freezing until I alt-tab (after installing 5070ti)
Hi all,
Having an issue that only started after I installed my 5070ti a month or two ago, but it's driving me nuts.
Randomly throughout playing a game, it will hard freeze. No audio, no video movement, and it can last anywhere from 5 seconds to almost a minute before it fixes itself. In online games this is often accompanied by a disconnect. HOWEVER if I alt-tab, the second I alt-tab it starts working again.
I've confirmed this happening in Warframe and Soulframe. I'm using Wayland on Manjaro (YES I KNOW RELAX) a gtx 5070ti and otherwise normal modern specs.
I had no issues whatsoever prior to installing the 5070ti. It's worth noting that when I installed the 5070ti, it did not want to work at first, and I had to completely remove and reinstall my nvidia drivers before it would work. I'm not sure if something went wrong here, and probably a full system reinstall would resolve things, but that's a pain in the ass and I'd rather avoid it.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you

Looking @ Linux to manually set minimum GPU Clock/Memory for a gaming laptop?
Hi all.
I am wondering if I should move onto Linux for gaming because my hardware & software for my laptop aren't properly communicating with each other for maximum performance. I am familiar with Linux, but a very casual user - I have a steam deck on linux which I had originally on Windows. I've run the games I'm interested on the Steam Deck, so I have no qualms about library limitations (Thank you Steam for pioneering Linux gaming)!
Windows 11, and ASUS in particularly has failed in meeting my expectations out of a 2nd hand laptop that I bought, an AMD Ryzen 5900HX/6800m 12GB laptop (ASUS ROG Strix Advanced Edition G15).
My problems lie in the fact that in Windows:
- ASUS' Chipset Drivers work as expected to maintaining temperature
- ASUS' Supplied Graphics Driver sucks & practically unusable, but makes AMD SmartShift works properly
- AMD's Graphics driver suite works better than ASUS drivers, but makes AMD SmartShift (CPU and GPU power controls) not work due to manufacturer driver mismatch
In short, I believe am missing about a possible ~70w of free performance on my GPU while it runs currently at 50w.
If I can manually set GPU core speed instead of it being stupid trying to balance power efficiency when I am always plugged in for gaming, it'd be a huge win I think.

Issues with the last ARC Raiders update (1.17.0)?
I want to know if im the only one having issues with the last ARC Raiders update (SHROUDED SKY 1.17.0)
I've been running the last month ARC Raiders with protonGE 10-29 (bc i forgot to update it) but today, when I tried to to open the new ARC Raiders update, the game just crashed before even loading the main menu screen.
I looked up for ppl having the same issues but I didn't found anything, so I updated to ProtonGE 10-32 and now it just says that "Windows 10 is requiered to run this app"
Anyone with similar issues? How I can fix it?

Linux recognizes controller but games do not
Crossposting my issue here because it pertains to games moreso than the actual OS environment. Has anyone experienced their controller working on the desktop but not in game?
I am at a complete loss here.

First time Linux user for gaming as someone with IT experience
I've just installed Pop OS to transition to Linux from abhorrent windows experience, but I now see it's not actually complete experience. I'd say I'm quite well informed on software, build my pc, studying software engineering but my god Linux feels annoying. Issues are mainly related to lack of control I have over the information and devices I have ironically:
- Nvidia control panel missing.
Can only change few settings using hex and Boolean in nvidia settings app but most are missing. dlss settings, frame capping, video resolution enhancement etc.
- Razer mouse software missing.
I'm aware of OpenRazer and remapper (which crashes constantly). But OpenRazer can't do mapping or profiles, and razer's some buttons can't be remapped like clutch. I know it's "razer's fault" but end user experience is that it's just not working.
- No fan control.
I tried few of them and it seems my motherboard B550-i can only be controlled by some onboard Asus controller that doesn't exist on Linux. I can't get pwm modules to be seen. Bios fan control sucks and can't be changed on the fly which I often do.
- No reliable clipboard app.
Might be Pop OS issue that it's not stable but tried can't get any gui clipboard to work smoothly it's either too slow or unreliable, sometimes doesn't save what I copied. Nothing close to windows clipboard.
I really wanted to make this year my year to completely change to Linux, but I think I'm gonna use Linux for non gaming, non essential stuff untill I get hang of it. My point is I hear a lot about how Linux is "average user ready" and from amount of googling and terminal usage I did for just setting up first few essential apps I can tell you it ain't looking good

Update for IrateGoose – surround sound in headphones. Output selector and EasyEffects
IrateGoose is a GUI program that configures PipeWire to achieve surround sound in headphones.
I have made an update based on the requests you wrote in the first post.
You can now force the use of a specific output device.
This also allows using IrateGoose together with EasyEffects. Instructions for setting this up are in the README.
I am now working on some per-channel adjustments. I don't like the way the reference implementation treats LFE channel: I believe it should NOT be processed because it is direction-less by definition, and convolving it along with the rest of the sound may introduce unwanted direction to LFE.

Help understanding proton logs from split fiction
I have moved more of my gaming to linux, and want to move completely over, but I still often see issues even when using proton on steam.
Recently I tried with split fiction and it doesn't work at all for me. First I just launched it in steam and it doesn't launch: Here is the log from that: https://pastes.io/proton-177
Then I looked online and tried myself to understand the log and the best suggestion I could get was to disable Vulkan with : PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1, this means that the game launches but after getting through the launch screen then the game and my entire computer freezes entirely. Here is the log I then get: https://pastes.io/split-fict
My main issue is that the logs are just so long that I dont even know what to look at.
I am playing on Zorin with a NVIDIA 1070 GPU.

Civ4 BtS Caveman2Cosmos "Memory Allocation Failure" (RAM issues)
Recommendations for Gaming Controllers
Guys, I need some recommendations for good, well supported linux controllers for Steam and Heroic gaming. I switched to Pop_OS about 6 months ago, I love it, would never go back to Windows, especially with the whole Win11 crap.
For the most part whenever I have issues or want to do something I ask Chatgpt/ Grok on how to do it (not yet familiar with the terminal that intimately). But when it comes to gaming controllers I have an issue running them - basically I bought a cheap battletronic PS4 dualshosc controller imitation (got it 2nd hand). This controller worked fine back when I was on Win10, but with Pop_OS I am seeing an issue where the controller won't wirelessly connect to the PC. When it's wired - all inputs are registered (used evtest and jstest as per Grok's recommendation), Steam inputs test also registers all inputs, but when I start a game (let's say WuWa) nothing works, except for the touchpad which moves the cursor.
So I thought the issue might be in the controller itself. I borrowed my borther's Xbox series X controller, and have a similar issue - controller won't connect wirelessly. Although when connected via USB + steam inputs disabled the controller works just fine, but the wireless issue persists.
Therefore, I am looking for any recommendations about controllers which (if possible) work out of the box - both wired and wirelessly. Grok so far recommends 8BitDo - Ultimate 2, but I'd like to check if there are any better out there and/or if anybody has this type of controller + linux to confirm it works flawlessly. Thanks in advance!

Monster Hunter Wilds and Stories 3 keeps crashing
Hey all,
As the title says, MHWilds and MHStories 3 demo keeps crashing for me after either a few minutes or after an hour or so. Updated everything, validated files etc. but its driving me insane.
OS: Nobara Linux 43 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition) x86_64
Kernel: Linux 6.19.2-200.nobara.fc43.x86_64
Uptime: 1 hour, 42 mins
Packages: 3609 (rpm), 13 (flatpak-user)
Shell: bash 5.3.0
Display (AW3225QF): 3840x2160 @ 1.45x in 32", 240 Hz [External]
DE: KDE Plasma 6.5.5
WM: KWin (Wayland)
WM Theme: Breeze
Theme: Breeze (Dark) [Qt], Nobara [GTK2], Breeze [GTK3], Nobara [GT]
Icons: breeze-dark [Qt], breeze-dark [GTK3/4]Font: Noto Sans (11pt) [Qt], Noto Sans (11pt) [GTK3/4]
Cursor: breeze (24px)
Terminal: konsole 25.12.2
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (16) @ 5.27 GHz
GPU 1: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX [Discrete]
GPU 2: AMD Radeon Graphics [Integrated]
Memory: 5.13 GiB / 30.48 GiB (17%)
Swap: 960.79 MiB / 8.00 GiB (12%)
As you can see, running Nobara and my hardware is all AMD and powerful enough to run everything. Using Proton GE 10-32 and Re Shade did nothing for me either. Do you have any tips?
