Why are my BG3 native mods not loading?

I just set it up like I would've done on windows but it's not working, does someone have a fix? Even though it's just the camera tweaks I feel so uncomfortable playing without that mod

Odd issue with steam

I dual booted my pc with windows 10 and zorin os about a year ago with very small issues here and there. I dual booted it because I have work I do that only works on windows. regardless, I have had an issue pop up recently on my Linux partition. you see, I have three drives, two internal nvme ssds one of which is my main drive with Linux and windows, and the other for the sole purpose of steam game downloads. the third drive is an external ssd which I use to put files shared between windows and Linux. the internal drives are ext4 and the external is nvms.

Recently after doing some work on windows I shut down and started up my Linux partition and wanted to play some ark survival ascended. I've had no issues in the past but this time it kept throwing a disk write error. I'll show all the things I've tried so far to fix it.

updated OS

Updated other games on the same drive (they successfully updated)

successfully updated games on the same drive

updated permissions to the files

verified ASA files

cleared steam cache and download

moved ark to the other internal drive

I removed the app manifest as well and it redownloaded the entire game

every other game downloads, updates, etc. as you'd expect. if I tried to uninstall and reinstall ark it works fine until it has to update again. My drives have over 300gb free space. I'm happy to reinstall it, but the game updates every couple days and it's a big file for my subpar internet service. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Obstacles to migration

I'm running an Alienware 17r1 with an i7-4910mq processor and a GTX1070m dGPU, aftermarket upgrade.

Currently on Windows 11 LTSC and I'm happy enough with it I guess but I would like to switch back to Linux.

On my old laptop I switched to Linux to gain performance because it was showing its age, this rig is performing perfectly fine on Windows Linux is just a preference.

I have two main concerns with migration:

1.) On this laptop I undervolt both CPU and GPU aggressively, I have 1800mhz @ .85v and +500 memory clock in Afterburner, which has gained me substantial thermal benefits and higher more stable FPS. I understand there is no Afterburner for Linux, the equivalent is CLI tools. and the same effect be achieved on Linux with a Pascal GPU, or how is the situation different? without afterburner on Windows I see lower and more variable clocks so for performance I need such tools are kind of required.

2.) How bad is the DirectX 12 translation layer overhead on performance? I understand the older API either benefit from or are at least a wash comparing Windows to Linux.

On Windows I can run cyberpunk at just under a perfect locked 60 FPS using a mixture of settings compromises and FSR. I know that game is steam deck verified so I guess it runs fine on Linux overall but that's with the 30 FPS cap on the tiny screen versus shooting for 60 FPS 1080p 32-in TV.

Why does launching steam with GE-proton increase disk writes?

I've noticed that when I have alternative versions of proton, such as glorious eggroll, launching steam writes substantially more data to the disk. One version of GE in the "../compatibilitytools.d" directory writes about 300mb vs 50mb without. The writes increase with more versions of proton.

Anyone know where the temp data is being written? I may create a symlink from there to /tmp.

Also, has anyone noticed increased writes with GE-proton outside of launching steam?

Minecraft with Vulkan on the latest Snapshot - FPS difference between enabled system level VSync and disabled VSync (on Wayland)

I've seen some people complain about low performance on Vulkan, so I decided to try it and noticed the same thing - that is until I disabled implicit Wayland VSync. With enabled screen tearing, the FPS difference is massive.

To disable Wayland VSync on KDE Plasma, go to System Settings -> Window Management -> Window Rules -> Add Minecraft -> Force Fullscreen & Force Allow Tearing.

This was tested on RTX 5060 Ti with Ryzen 5 7600X with 180hz monitor.

GPU selection issue

Hi, I have an issue with game rendering on CachyOS (Arch-based, KDE Plasma, Wayland). I have a ROG Strix B550-F Gaming with 2x RTX 3060s. The board enumerates the bottom slot (04:00.0) as GPU 0 despite my display being connected to the top slot (08:00.0/GPU 1). On Windows, the same hardware correctly routes games to GPU 1. On Linux, everything renders on GPU 0, which causes a performance issue as my Linux M.2 shares PCIe bandwidth with the bottom slot. The only game that appeared to render correctly was Life is Strange (native Linux build). Things already tried: KWIN_DRM_DEVICES, xorg.conf PrimaryGPU, DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME, NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD/GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME, various kernel parameters including vgaarb.default_vgadev. Any help appreciated

Audio bug in some games

howdy folks im running into a bit of an interesting problem on some of my games. I recently switched to Linux mint and while I have a decent grasp on unix and alsa im just not sure what can be causing my issue maybe missing codecs?

anyways issue is as follows i do have game sound, background music, sfx, and some voices in games but on some i will be missing just the cutscene voice audio example games with this issue would be yakuza 0 and the witcher 3.

(this bug from what i can tell is reminiscent to the witcher 3 4.0 audio bug where just the cutscene voice audio is missing and you had to delete patch 0 and patch 1 to fix it. however that file structure has changed making the advice obsolete)

troubleshooting i have done was figuring out my audio interface 18i8 was set on 7.1 ive since changed it to pro and have gotten it to output as stereo instead of surround (verified this through alsa mixer and pavucontrol) i have also verified my game files and reinstalled both of these games. i tested out dx11 and dx12 both have the issue. I have also installed proton ge in a hope that the codecs they provide would solve it but alas i still have this dreaded issue!

any ideas for how I can fix this? I'm near my wits end and about to install a windows vm just to play these games which id rather not do. thank you in advance if you have any questions im happy to answer.

France is ditching Windows for Linux. Are we finally reaching the "Market Share Tipping Point" for major releases like GTA 6?

As many of you have probably read, the French government has officially started transitioning its public sector PCs from Windows to Linux. While meming about "French bureaucrats playing Tux Racer" is fun, I think this has massive, tangible implications for Linux Gaming.

Here is why this matters to us:

Game developers and anti-cheat vendors (like Epic with EAC) always use the same excuse: "Linux is only 2-3% of the market, it's not worth the support." But when an entire major European country shifts its public infrastructure to Linux, the global desktop market share is going to see a noticeable bump. Hardware vendors (Nvidia, AMD, peripheral makers) will be forced to provide first-class Linux drivers, which directly benefits gamers.

Weird FPS capping on crimson desert?

ubuntu LTS / 3080 / i7 14700k / Nvidia driver 590 / kde x11 / 1440p / GE proton 34 / DLSS 4 Balanced

I've been watching a lot of crimson desert videos and seeing people with close to my setup getting 80-90 fps on high settings. Currently running on medium everything except texture quality. Post processing and shadows and settings like that on low.

144 fps in the main menu, 90 in the transition screen, a flat 60 in game.

Swapping to DLSS performance doesn't change the fps. Moving to low doesn't change my FPS. Moving to only my 1080p monitor doesn't raise my FPS. Dropping the resolution doesn't increase my fps.

I tried swapping to proton hotfix and experimentalcand nothing.

My GPU is pinned to ~95% with 4GB of vram used. btop shows no CPU cores pegged at 100. All sitting super low.

One monitor is 1440p 170hz, the other is 1080p 60hz.

I tried checking a bunch of Nvidia-settings for any weird causing vsync and nothing. I disabled my 60hz monitor and nothing changed.

One change eliminated X11 causing my refresh to be locked to the refresh of my 60hz monitor. I get way more than 60fpz in other games anyway.

Mangohud 40 fps caps my fps to 40, but 144 keeps me locked at 60.

I turned off the compositor and nothing.

I feel like I tried every launch command under the sun.

The only reason I'm so stuck on this is I know what capped and uncapped fps feels like and looks like

Or there's something wrong in the DLSS pipe with proton and it's just not working correctly.

The last thing I can do is just reinstall my drivers, but I had this issue on my last driver version as well. So I reinstalled and updated. Maybe try the 595 driver? But this has just been an issue since launch for me.

Crimson desert not detecting updated driver

Hello, I launched CD after a week of not playing and it says my installed nvidia driver is 155.35, but the required is 581.29, i ran nvidia-smi and it shows I'm using 595.58, whats the deal? I'm using Arch.
