Error at the end of matches in Marvel Rivals

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 6:31am

Occasionally I get this error after a match. Then the same error pops up when I start the game until I verify integrity of game cache where it usually downloads a file. Does anyone know what this might be and how I can fix it? It is happening more frequently lately.

Thank you

Most Games Won't Launch with Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 5:33am

The vast majority of my library simply doesn't work with Proton. I’ve tested it with Proton Experimental, Proton Hotfix, older versions, and Proton GE — not even games listed as Platinum on ProtonDB work. I managed to launch Rain World once, but it never worked again after that.

The games appear as if they’re running — the “Stop” button is active like they’re actually executing — but nothing shows up on screen. After a few minutes, they just crash completely.

All the games are stored on an external NTFS hard drive (I’ve already applied the usual fixes to make NTFS drives work properly on Linux), and native Linux games run just fine.

Specs:

  • Linux Mint 22.1
  • Intel(R) Pentium(R) J4205
  • Intel HD Graphics 505
  • 4GB RAM

de_dust2 mid texture glitch

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 5:12am

Hi guys, i've been using Linux Mint LMDE for about a month, everything is fine except from one little detail about CS2. I'm getting this error while i'm on mid or ct spawn, it looks like i'm on the water. I updated my GPU drivers but nothing happened. The other maps work fine. If anybody have the solution please let me know. Thanks!

Ripping my hair out trying to get doom dark ages to just run.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 4:54am

So I'm a big doom fan, and I want nothing more then to play the new game on my PC, but it doesn't work. when ever I try to launch, the game WILL launch but then it well "fail to allocate video memory" and crash the game, no driver update or proton version would fix this. And it will run on windows, sop my hardware ISN'T the issue here, these are my specs

Operating System: Bazzite 42

KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0

Qt Version: 6.9.0

Kernel Version: 6.14.4-104.bazzite.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)

Graphics Platform: Wayland

Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600 6-Core Processor

Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM

Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti

Drivers: NVIDIA drivers 570.99

Product Name: B450M-HDV R4.0

Before I was running Kubuntu, but I count get the game to boot, so I TODAY switched to Bazzite thinking it would work "out of the box" like so many people on ProtonDB are getting it to run, but no, same error as before. No amount of googling has found me the answer, this is my last resort.

Sims 4 in Steam stopped working would Bazzite be the solution?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 4:26am

My Sims 4 in Steam doesn't seem to work at all anymore. I've tried several versions of Proton and it looks like it tries to install or update the EA Play app, but it seems like it's not working and now the game won't launch. I have ubuntu but I've heard about Bazzite being the gaming distro, could that be the solution, or if anyone has anything else I could do I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Is Ubuntu a good beginner gaming distro?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 4:12am

Looking to dual boot and hopefully eventually switch away from windows entirely. Tried Fedora and Ubuntu both earlier on an old laptop and Ubuntu seems like it has a wider range of easier installed packages (for example, psensor just needed one install command and I couldn’t even figure out how to install it on Fedora).

Bazzite was also a consideration for me, but I think I’d like to go with something else for a couple reasons: lack of immutability (as I gather it could become an issue) and something like Ubuntu or fedora being more “mainstream” makes me feel like it’s probably a bit closer watched and safer to use than something like Bazzite, but I have heard of Linux Mint being hacked about ten years ago, so I’m really unsure if that’s a point in Ubuntu or Fedora’s favor.

No picture with nvidia-open + RTX3070 + Samsung Odyssey G8 Ultrawide

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 3:09am

Tried posting this in the Bazzite discord but had no answer yet. Been troubleshooting an issue for a while with my desktop PC setup where the system would boot but the display cuts out at some point during the boot process, between grub and desktop.

  • Asus B650E-F
  • Ryzen 7600x
  • Asus Tuf 3070 OC
  • Samsung Odyssey G8 OLED (G85SD)
  • HDMI 2.1 cable

Bazzite install worked fine but on booting into the system, display completely cuts out during boot. I am able to use the system by plugging my cable into the iGPU but get nothing from the Nvidia card. The monitor just doesn't detect the PC at all and goes into standby. Interestingly it does periodically wake itself up from standby, but still doesn't detect any connected device.

I tested booting a CachyOS install iso, which gives the choice of standard boot (presumably nouveau) or nvidia-open drivers at grub. Standard works fine, but nvidia-open gives exactly the same issue. So there is some conflict between the driver, video card and monitor.

Cheers.

Lag bomb after some time in only some games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 2:16am

Hi. I started to experience issues with some games played through steam. After some time of playing (approx. 30-50 minutes) the games start to stutter drastically. I am using CachyOS with KDE Plasma and have the RX 9070 XT, use the newest mesa drivers and have two monitors. The games, where I experienced the issue are:

  • Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon
  • Skyrim with Elysium Remastered modlist
  • Yakuza 0

Games I was playing and didn't have any issues:

  • Skyrim with Nordic Souls modlsit
  • Europa Universalis IV (although this one was in the native version)
  • Heroes of the Storm launched through steam with NonSteamLaunchers
  • Warhammer 40.000: Boltgun
  • Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
  • Total War: Warhammer III (via proton)
  • Victoria 3 (also via proton)

I tried with proton-cachyos, Proton Experimental, Proton 9.0-4 and GE-Proton10-3.

Mini lagspikes making games unplayable.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 1:40am

Distro: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS x86_64 CPU: Intel i9-9900K (16) @ 5.000GHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Rev. A

The lagspikes are really tiny, like dropping 2-5 frames, but it can have really annoying effects on inputs. The biggest problem it causes is altering the time keys are activated (Like, you keep moving a little after you stop pressing W)

I have edited stuff in the Nvidia control panel, like turning off and on random stuff lmfao.

Although, some games arent effected by this thing. (ones I found were BFDI: Branches and Minecraft) But games like Roblox and Geometry dash (ESPECIALLY GD) are effected pretty badly. AND, FPS counters are not effected by it either, they just kinda "skip" over the missing frames lmfao.

Might get an RX 9070, how are the drivers these days?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 1:24am

Please, no fanboying. I am brand agnostic, Neither Intel nor AMD nor nVidia needs cheerleaders to survive.

And if you intend to post "I never had any problems" then you are not really contributing - lack of experience is not evidence.

I have almost exclusively used Linux since 2015. I game on Linux. So far mostly on nVidia cards because AMD burned me with the 5700. At that time everyone was lauding how great the drivers were, and this was most obviously not the case.

I then learned that AMD fanboys would gloss over any and all problems bEcAuSe nViDiA pRoPrIeTaRy. I tried to follow the development for a while, but it was always the same "The drivers are great now! Not the shit they were last year! Buy! Buy!" - year after year.

Meanwhile I lumbered on with my GTX970, GTX 1060, RTX2060, RTX3060. Sure, the drivers were not flawless - most notably did Wayland not work well, like - ever. Same thing with those fanbois - "I have never seen the problems you describe so you must be lying!". But generally, they just did what they were supposed to.

So my question is this: if I get an RX 9070 now, what will I deal with?

  • I know I need kernel >6.13.5 or some such, that is taken care of.
  • I don't care about performance issues, it will be heads and shoulders above what I have now either way.
  • Does CTRL+ALT+F1 work for switching terminals? Can you go back after with CTRL+ALT+F7? Or whatever it is on your flavor of Linux?
  • Did you test that just now or are you just blankly denying?
  • Do fullscreen modes adhere to the desktop settings? Resolution, framerate, Vsync? Do you find that games have their own idea of what the settings should be rather than follow the system?
  • In Wayland?
  • Do you get weird issues with scaling? I mean like if you set default zoom on a page to 125% or such? Where some content scales and other not?
  • Does Suspend work as it should or you you find yourself having to hard reboot randomly? Or you activate Suspend and then it immediately goes back up with no input?
  • Does fan speed operate as intended or do you look at 100% all of the time while the GPU draws 250 watts doing nothing, like?
  • Other quirks?

Thank you very much for any informative knowledge you share!

Linux mint went from great to a stuttering mess.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 May 2025 - 12:45am

So I switched to mint about a month ago. Loving it. Playing the few games I still play. Performance as good or a touch better than windows.

Had to do some stuff in Windows only software. Boot into mint. Open browser. Weirdly slow. Open steam. Takes a while. Launch helldivers 2. Literal frame rates so low and stuttering so hard that I can count the individuals frames. Also happens in the opening video.

I haven't done anything special or done some downloading of now software or messing around.

Haven't been able to really find a trouble shooting path to take but man. This is just like when I tried Linux years ago. Great and then just shits the bed for no reason.

Should probably include some specs.

Logitech PRO X Wireless Gaming Headset

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 24 May 2025 - 11:41pm

Hello,
I installed EndeavourOS, but I have a problem with my headset. It disconnects every few seconds. Sometimes it works for a longer time, but then it starts disconnecting randomly again.
Do I need to install something to make it work properly?
