x11 focus-issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 10:28am

Hey, maybe a silly question but I was not able to find anything about this on Google.. when using gnome 48 with x11, while alt tabing from a game in fullscreen to another app and then tabbing back, sometimes the game just crashes.. This is not happening under wayland but I refuse to use it due to horrid performance. Anyone had similiar issue or atleast know what could be the cause? Many thanks for the help!

Advice about dual-booting with windows 11 and secure boot

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 10:11am

Hey,

I'm looking to rock a linux install next to my pre-existing windows 11, I'd like to basically just test how World of Warcraft runs under linux. The drive setup atm is w11 on NVME, and I have a 1TB Samsung evo SSD that would be the linux drive.

...The problem I keep getting so far is that every single linux version I've tired thats "gaming focused" like Bazzite, Cachy, Nobara, does not seem to play nice with secureboot enabled, and windows keeps throwing a hissy-fit if I disable then re-enable it. Bazzite was throwing secondary monitor errors at me that after some googling is "disable secure boot, nvidia driver doesnt play nice if you have secureboot on", and the other 2 was also just not really working.

Are there any linux gaming distros that DO have secure boot compatible versions, or anything like that? So far the only advice I've found was "just install Mint", but that seems like its a decent chunk more work to set up for games, especially World of Warcraft which would be the only focus of this project for me, honestly.

Thanks in advance!

Assasin's Creed Shadows borked

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 9:37am

Ubisoft released an update a little while ago and it seems to have completely borked AC Shadows on Linux. It shows the intro video and then crashes immediately after. People have reported this on ProtonDB. Has anyone found a workaround?

LSFG-VK (lossless scaling) how do I use dual AMD GPUs?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 7:27am

I'm on CachyOS and I have a RX6800 that I use for gaming and would like to use a second GPU for lossless scaling. I would like to use a wx7100 due to its size (single slot), but I have other 2 slot GPUs as well. Is there a way to set a second GPU to be used in LSFG-VK in the console? I don't see any options in the gui for dual GPU use.

XBOX Gamepad headphone port functionality?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 4:14am

I've got an 8bitdo Ultimate 3-mode Controller for Xbox. It works perfectly as an Xbox style controller on my Cachy OS, KDE system.

Has anyone had success getting the 3.5mm headphone jack port that's on the controller to function in Linux? I'm using the wireless dongle instead of using bluetooth which was required to use the headphone jack on Windows. I'd like to be able to chat in-game using my wired headphones.

This is the only thing I'm really struggling to get working with Linux.

CS2 audio errors?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 3:13am

Does anyone play CS2 that can vouch and maybe give a fix?

Whenever I’m playing counter strike my audio seems to disappear unless I play around with the audio settings for a bit which usually means set it to the next setting, is pipewire better than pulse?

[Question] Does anyone know how to install the new GOG version of Dragon Age: Origins on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 1:51am

The older GOG version had a separate hotfix and multiple patches. The latest GOG installer version does not require additional patches and provides a patch for version downgrade.

  1. Lutris: Only the old version of the installation script exists.
  2. Installing the .exe via Steam: Fails with a dotnet35 installation error.

Do I have to buy the game again on Steam?

Games not launching through steam (Fedora 42 KDE)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 1:15am

I have been trying to launch and play the elder scrolls oblivion (2009) GOTY and it keeps failing to launch. I tried multiple proton versions (9.0-4, hotfix, experimental, GE-proton10-17) and keep getting the same results.

I am seeing the same issue with Half Life 2 (proton version), and Steins;Gate. Pretty much all of my other games work fine. I ran steam through the terminal and got this when I tried to launch oblivion, similar results for the other games

fsync: up and running.
WARNING: radv is not a conformant Vulkan implementation, testing use only.
chdir "/home/*/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Oblivion"

Adding process 17852 for gameID 22330

I am unsure how to even diagnose this issue as all of these games are platinum on protondb and I have had no issues so far with any of the other games I tested.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
GPU : AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
Kernel: Linux 6.16.8-cachyos1.fc42.x86_64 (tried with native kernel, no difference)

Any help would be appreciated

I am reposting to include proton log for oblivion w/t proton experimental

Did the native Linux version of BG3 remove the Larian Launcher?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 1:02am

I have been running the game with --launcher--skip for the last year, however I noticed that removing this command still skips the Launcher. The steam overlay is gone, probably because the game runs on Wayland now.

The launcher was used to switch between Vulkan and DX11, so does this mean that BG3 is the first AAA game to use Vulkan and Wayland natively?

Help needed regarding dragon ball online

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 1:01am

The game is so hard to find info on. I'm trying to find a decent private server that supports Linux, but pop count, how to set up, server language all of this information seems to be hidden away on the depths of the internet.

I know I'm going out on a limb here to find such specific info, but does anyone have any recommendations in relation to this game and how to set it up on Linux, specifically cachyos?

Optiscaler for native linux games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 26 Sep 2025 - 12:25am

With BG3 having a native linux version now, I was looking into playing it again with FSR4 enabled. However, it occurred to me optiscaler might not work for native linux builds. Does anybody have any info or experience on that? Would I be required to still use the windows build of the game for optiscaler?

Feasibility of "8K" gaming on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 25 Sep 2025 - 10:59pm

I have a 8K monitor (technically a TV) that I use like four 4K monitors without a bezel between them. It is run by an NVIDIA GPU.

I'm thinking about moving to Linux, but it is hard to find any resources talking about similar cases to mine and if they are possible on Linux. Which is why I made this post to get an idea if it is feasible before wasting time on it.

A few years ago, I tried to move to Linux. Back then I had multiple monitors with different resolutions, and it was impossible to set different scalings for different monitors on Ubuntu, which is why I quickly abandoned it.

  • Is it possible to change the scaling up to a high percentage to match 8k?

On Windows, I use power toys fancy zones to split the 8K monitor into four corners, so basically four 4K areas. As I understand, fancy zones is like a tiling window manager light. I looked into KDE and there are articles that say it has tiling and then others say tiling was removed again. For gnome, there seems to be all kind of extensions that can do tiling, but it is not clear to me which is an established and still supported one. Also, many tiling window managers do not seem practical to me. They are seemingly based around windows opening in full screen and then further windows split the screen as I have seen in videos. But I rather want windows to open in one of the four segments and remember that position.
Here is an example of how I can define zones with fancy zones and then windows will just snap into those zones. https://i.imgur.com/XQl5mDb.png

  • Is there light tiling manager like fancy zones where I can split the screen into 4 segments?

To play games I use the app borderless gaming which allows me to force any game into borderless window mode and resize and position it anywhere. This is how I force games into one of the four 4k segments. I rarely ever play on fullscreen 8k.

  • Is there a way to force borderless window mode for games and resize/reposition games and ideally remember those settings?

In my experience many things are theoretically possible on Linux but setting up multiple custom things and tinkering around only leads to dead ends where things don't work or break. As such it would be ideal to use a Distro that can do these things out of the box with official support or has official packages.

  • Is there a Distro that can do these things and gaming natively?
