"How to Play Age of Mythology: Retold on Linux - Step by Step Guide"

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 7:57pm

Hey guys, with the release of Age of Mythology Retold, I thought it might be worth creating a new video covering how I got it working on my system.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwWh5vPuOeg

As always, see below for a written version.

https://www.reddit.com/r/IntelligentGaming2020/comments/1f5z6ip/how_to_play_age_of_mythology_retold_on_linux_step/

In short, skirmish, campaigns, and cut scenes, all works out of the box, but multiplayer requires a fix, which is documented in the video.

In terms of bugs, that only one I saw was that some of the tech tree tooltip icons do not render correctly, but you can see research them.

Any questions, let me know.

Ryan

Caution: Activating "FPS Average" in MangoHud per Goverlay may cause a black screen!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 7:22pm

Took me quite a while to find out, why many titles don't launch anymore. The "FPS Average" feature is new and very useful. Unfortunately it seems to be buggy and causing black screens occasionally. So if you experience this when launching your titles, deactivate this "FPS Average" feature or MangoHud completely.

Getting directory errors in Deep Rock Galactic, unsure of why

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 6:30pm

I recently switched to EndeavourOS from Linux Mint, and for some reason, Deep Rock Galactic started to give directory errors, even though said directory *does* exist (New Volume/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/548430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/), although nothing in it exists other than a Microsoft folder.

32901.048:0028:002c:err:shell:SHGetFolderPathAndSubDirW Failed to create directory L"C:\\users\\steamuser\\AppData\\Local". wine: failed to open "c:\\windows\\system32\\steam.exe": c0000135 pid 36318 != 36317, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)

This is the *only* game in my library right now that does this, and it's geniunly infuriating, games like Lethal Company, MechWarrior 5, Sprocket, etc work, but for some reason not DRG??? It's not the secondary drive being the issue either, as other proton games run from it no problem

I'm not sure *why* it's giving this error given that it worked perfectly fine on Mint, and I've entirely run out of ideas as to how to fix this, and I've already tried reinstalling the game and using other proton versions (currently running GE, worked best on Mint at least)
if hardware helps any,

processor: 4 × AMD A12-9800 RADEON R7, 12 COMPUTE CORES 4C+8G memory: 15.1GiB graphics: AMD Radeon R7 product name: HP 510-p109

(yes I'm running on a prebuilt from 2016, which causes other graphical issues but thats not the point, DRG worked on Mint but now its not working. Also please be gentle this is only like, month 3 of me using Linux)

Proton Issues | Pop!_OS

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 6:20pm

I'm running a System 76 Adder WS, and have often have it plugged in to a monitor.

The setup for my monitors is like this: I have a scepter monitor for
my primary monitor (only 1600x900, but it works) and i use the built in
screen is used as a secondary monitor (1920x1080)

Everything seems to work fine except when I launch games through
Steam, they seem locked to my second monitor. Even changing to windowed
mode dragging to my primary snaps the game back to my secondary monitor.
Using super + shift + arrows to force games to my primary monitor
either results in the same issue or the application simply wont respond
to mouse input.

Launching non-Proton games seems to work fine though, so i'm wondering if there's any way to fix this through proton

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

HELP Using Bottles in Linux Chromebook PLEASE.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 4:37pm

I recently installed Bottles in my Chromebook using the Linux support on it to play some games. I installed Epic Games through Bottles and then I also installed Fortnite inside Epic Games. However, whenever I try to open Fortnite via Epic Games, the game will close and say "Open the game through the Epic Games Launcher". Anyone using Bottles know what can I do to launch it correctly?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 4:33pm

Hey guys!
Ive been gaming on my arch linux few months without problem but during the summer I was on vacation for few weeks and after that when I updated my system (there were like 150 updates) games stopped working (apart of minecraft) when I try playing any game from steam or lutris it crashes without any window launching.. I used PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to find out what is the problem but in the log there was only 2 error lines:

1053.602:0020:00d4:err:winediag:nodrv_CreateWindow Application tried to create a window, but no driver could be loaded.
1053.602:0020:00d4:err:winediag:nodrv_CreateWindow L"The explorer process failed to start."

My system:
OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Host: Nitro AN515-57 V1.17
Kernel: 6.6.49-1-lts
DE: Plasma 6.1.4

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile / Max-Q
GPU: Intel TigerLake-H GT1 [UHD Graphics]

I tried googling as much as possible, but nothing came up, do you have an idea what the problem could be?

thanks in advance <3

Very bad game performance of newly built PC

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 4:20pm

Hello everyone, I just built my first pc and really wanted to have Linux instead of Windows because I've had good experiences with the Steam Deck. The problem is that every game, for example Deep Rock Galactic, is running so incredibly slow. Does any of you have any tips or ways i can figure out what's wrong? I'm really getting demotivated and getting tempted to sadly switch to Windows. I have the following specs:

Hardware Information:
  • **Hardware Model:** ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI

  • **Memory:** 32.0 GiB

  • **Processor:** AMD Ryzen™ 7 7700X × 16

  • **Graphics:** AMD Radeon™ Graphics

  • **Disk Capacity:** 2.0 TB

Software Information:
  • **Firmware Version:** 2615

  • **OS Name:** Fedora Linux 40 (Workstation Edition)

  • **OS Build:** (null)

  • **OS Type:** 64-bit

  • **GNOME Version:** 46

  • **Windowing System:** Wayland

  • **Kernel Version:** Linux 6.10.7-200.fc40.x86_64

Is all NVIDIA users suffering from VRAM leaks?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 3:35pm

Hi, I only play one game Genshin Impact and I have MX450 but on Windows the VRAM usage is always around 1500 MBs at High Settings, Recently I decided to move to Linux and I really loved it over Windows. I installed lutris and Genshin Impact and I noticed that it was using all VRAM so I lowered the graphics to its maximum lowest quality and this time the game ran fine for few minutes until I changed regions. It seems that the data of previous regions is not being cleared from memory when moving to next region and VRAM usage goes to 100 precent. Is there any solutions I can try?

Control Crosair Water Cooling System on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 1:24pm

Hey all,

Is there a possibility to control a Crosair Watercooling Unit (Pump and Fans) on Linux (Mint)? Icue is unfortunatley not working on Linux. I only have Linux installed on my Computer.

I saw that there are some iCue linux alternatives but these are mostly for LED controls of gaming mices and keyboards.

Games similar to Battlefield not destined to become unplayable?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 12:33pm

I have had heck of a time playing BFV, but I lost all mood to play any of the remaining playable BF or EA games after EA pulled the rug from under me.

Could you help me find non-GMO, organic battlefield-like FPS games (not FOSS, just hands-off) that are mature, fun and actively developed/maintained?

Has anyone successfully updated MSI monitor firmware?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 12:14pm

I have an MSI MPG 271QRX which is running firmware 0.9 (5 versions out of date). The requirements to update the monitor appear to be: - Windows Gaming OSD App - Monitor plugged into Windows PC using an Nvidia card via displayport.

I have an nvidia card and could set up a Windows VM, but I'm assuming it won't work due to the displayport requirements. I'm curious as to if anyone has successfully updated their monitor firmware without having to download windows?

Thanks

Alternative to parsec for gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 Sep 2024 - 11:21am

Hi there

I'm currently looking for a alternative to parsec, the features I need from parsec is the ability to have a friend connect to my machine from a non-local network, I need the ability for him to be able to take control of my mouse and keyboard.

Is there any such programs for linux? Or is it strictly a windows thing?
