Modorganizer2-Installer did not find a valid prefix directory
So I'm having an issue with the modorganizer2-installer when installing MO2 to try and manager my Skyrim SE install. When running the installer script I get:
INFO: selected game 'skyrimspecialedition' INFO: found Steam in '/home/<me>/.local/share/Steam' INFO: game not found in '/home/<me>/.local/share/Steam' INFO: game found in '/mnt/games/SteamLibrary' INFO: steam not found in '/home/<me>/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam' pressure-vessel-wrap[10161]: E: ':' and '\' in --filesystem argument not handled yet Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/protontricks", line 33, in <module> sys.exit(load_entry_point('protontricks==1.11.1', 'console_scripts', 'protontricks')()) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/protontricks/cli/main.py", line 32, in cli main(args) File "/usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/protontricks/cli/util.py", line 159, in wrapper return cli_func(self, *args, **kwargs) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/protontricks/cli/main.py", line 381, in main returncode = run_command( ^^^^^^^^^^^^ File "/usr/lib/python3.12/site-packages/protontricks/util.py", line 516, in run_command raise RuntimeError( RuntimeError: bwrap launcher crashed, returncode: 2 ERROR: Protontricks did not find a valid prefix directory. Stdout was:\nThe game does run through Steam, and I've done so to create a prefix in the right place. My steam directory is not on my root drive, but supposedly the installer can account for that as seen above.
The errors comes down to this E: ':' and '\' in --filesystem argument not handled yet issue, but I don't know what is causing it. I'm not sure where it's conjuring up "E:\" from.
Anyone know how to get this working?

"How to Record and Stream Games on Linux: Step by Step Guide"
Hey guys, so I have been asked this several times in the past, how I record and stream on Linux.
So I thought I might make a quick video about what software and settings that I use for achieving this.
As always, if you don't want to watch the video, I have a written version below.
Any questions, feel free to get in touch.

New Linux User - 7900XTX and Linux Mint 22
Hello Linux-family ;),
I just finished building my new system yesterday and currently, I am working on setting up all the things I would like to use.
Since I am a total Linux beginner, I do have some questions.
OS: Linux Mint 22
System: 7800X3D and 7900XTX.
Questions so far:
Since there is no AMD Adrenalin Software, that handles OC/UV/certain graphic settings etc. Are there alternatives?
Do I have to install additional drivers for the 7900XTX or the 7800X3D?
What do you use to control the fans and the pump on your AiO? I use the Corsair ICUE AiO and fans.
How do I monitor ingame the performance? Like clock speeds, temps, load, utilization and so on?
I hope, you guys can help me :). Thanks!
PS: I am not familiar with Linux terms, so please, explain it in a way, a beginner understands it :). Thanks!

DXVK HUD won't turn off in Flatpak Bottles
So I tried monitoring my memory by setting DXVK_HUD=memory but now that I've unset the envvar it won't disappear. I can confirm that it only happens on this specific bottle, and nowhere else. I can also set and unset DXVK_HUD on other games, and the bottle.yml file reads DXVK_HUD as being set to 0. I'm really unsure what logs I need to show, since I've really only changed the envvars through the Bottles GUI. Any help is welcome, sorry for the lack of logs.

Less Power consumption of AMD card in linux, thermal throttling?
Need help with the "gamescope-session-steam-git" package from AUR.
I installed "gamescope-session-steam-git" from AUR, as I want to stay on Arch (I've already tried out nobara, bazzite, etc., but there's stuff about them individually that I don't like), it's awesome and everything is working, except for one extremely important thing, I'm having a wierd issue with my controller (Dualsense), it's working perfectly fine with Steam itself, but when I launch a game, none of them register the controllers input.
When I'm in a game, I can still bring the Steam UI up, so, again, the controller is working just fine with everything Steam related, it's just the games 🤷♂️
Am I missing something here?

Compiling Mesa with -O3 - good idea or terrible idea? More flags for better performance?
Hello!
Prestory (skip if you don't care): I use Arch with amdonly-gaming-mesa-git family of packages to provide video drivers for my RX 6600XT. Recently I've been getting into Deadlock and was really dissatisfied with the performance my rig could put out in it (I mean, frequent sub-60 FPS even on lowest settings). The same goes for DOTA, for which, as I've noticed, my FPS started to sink really into that sub-60 FPS area sometimes too. One problem was probably CPU overheating a bit, but even with it cooled down, FPS was still lower than desired, and, most importantly, lower than I know is possible (I see my gf play the same game on Windows with her RX 5700 which should yield about the same performance, and her game is SMOOTH).
So, I've decided to take it to the next level and change -O2 to -O3 in my CFLAGS and -O2 to -O4 in my LDFLAGS in /etc/makepkg.conf. As far as I can tell for now, performance improved, though I haven't been able to play a full match yet, so take this with a grain of salt.
There is a problem though: I have also noticed, that using GPU to render Cycles in Blender now results in lights and emissive materials being glitchy and rendering incorrectly (the error disappears if I switch to CPU only rendering). It did not use to be this way before the update, so I assume that aggressive optimizations have messed some precise math up (even though I did not enable -ffast-math).
So, I have a few questions to the community here (mostly Gentoo and Arch users probably, or whoever compiled their drivers themselves):
- Is it a decent or a terrible idea generally to compile the video drivers (Mesa) with -O3?
- What are, if any, your tried-and-tested compiler flags for building Mesa without sacrificing some accuracy and applications to aggressive optimizations? What are the chances that it's just a temporary bug (since the package I use uses the git-version and not a release) and this will be fixed soon?
- Is there any way to have to have two versions of Mesa installed on the system and hotswap the one that is used for launching new applications somehow?
TIA

Distro Hope .... Arch btw or Fed ofc ???
Hello
I want to know if there is a big performance gap between fedora and arch. I've been using arch for 4 years but I have a little desire to change.
I've seen on several benchmarks that under arch there is often more FPS than under fedora.
What do you think?
Do you have any benchemark between these two distros like this Ubuntu 24.04 LTS & Fedora 40 Continue To Trail Intel's Linux Performance Optimizations - Phoronix?
Thanks
