Intel Linux Graphics Driver To Finally Expose GPU Package Temperature
Any fix for CS2's absolutely terrible framerate?
I, like many others here, love Counter Strike, and I love Linux. But CS2's native Linux port is, to put it bluntly trash.
I first looked up if I should just run the windows version through proton, but unfortunately it was said to be a "VAC disaster". So what is the best possible way to play CS2 on Linux? Any fixes? Launch options?

Satisfactory keeps on crashing/kernal panic
So with 1.0 being released this morning (hurray!) I have done a fresh download of the game and it basically kept on crashing on me while i was trying to stream.
I have used the following;
No compatibilty, Proton experimental, GE-proton9-13 and UMU-Proton-9.0-2.
All of it just basically caused my computer to hard freeze, audio still playing then sometimes it would cause a _ (kernal crash) and the other method of crash is everything slowly vanishes, my enviroment goes black backround then i gotta hard power down (i hate doing this) and restarting my computer...
Computer specs:
CPU: R7 5700X3D
GPU: 6700XT
32gb of ram and 32gb swap (for shits and giggles, gonna be upgrading to 64gb raw)
EndevourOS, KDE plasma 6.1.4, x11 platform, kernal 6.10.9-arch1-1
i would provide logs, just not sure which ones to grab. I'll happily provide those.
anything else just let me know :)

please help with steam on ubuntu
I am using ubuntu 24.04.1. I installed steam from the app store and it wont open. I tried to uninstall it with the app store and it gets stuck on the uninstalling loading symbol and does not get uninstalled. I looked at the post guide for this subredit and tried ending steam in system monitor and running it from terminal. That is the only thing from the guide that I knew how to do and it did not work. I have no idea what other information to give or how to troubleshoot this. Really new to linux and it has not been a great first impression but i want to stick with it. I will be gaming on windows until this issue is resolved.

Heavy lag problems with Fedora KDE Plasma caused by constant disk reads/writes every 7 to 10 seconds while gaming
I've been using Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop ever since I switched from Windows 10 in favor of Linux nearly a full year ago, and ever since then. I've been quite impressed at the sheer number of games within my Steam library being completely playable with little to no tweaks whatsoever. Even more impressive was the slight performance increase in not just the Steam games I normally do play, but non-Steam games as well. I even left numerous comments to numerous posts within this Subreddit reflecting this.
However, lately I've been noticing that, whenever I go play both Steam and non-Steam games alike, games such as Star Trek Online and Genshin Impact, games that once was lag-free, heavy lag spikes now occur by disk reads and/or disk writes once every 7 to 10 seconds. At this point, I suspect Fedora's installed Linux Kernel.
Not even system updates seem to be a viable fix for this rather annoying issue I'm currently having.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem, and how can I possibly fix this other than reverting back to a previous Linux Kernel version??
Also, I've been looking into Solus as an alternative to Fedora to game on. If I do distro hop from Fedora to Solus, how much of a performance gain will there be compared to Fedora while gaming?
My laptop's hardware info is as follows:
- Operating System: Fedora Linux 40
- KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4
- KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0
- Qt Version: 6.7.2
- Kernel Version: 6.10.7-200.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
- Graphics Platform: Wayland
- Swap Partition size: 16 GiB
Hardware info is as follows:
- Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i3-7100U CPU @ 2.40GHz
- Memory: 15.4 GiB of RAM
- Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 620
Steam version: 1721173382
Preferred Proton version: Proton-8.0-2
Preferred WINE version: wine-ge-8-26-x86_64

Running UWP apps in Wine? (Forza Horizon 2/3/4, Minecraft Bedrock)
We don't need UWP support in Wine. We could even use this to run Xbox One games with XWine1.
https://github.com/nta/immersive-host Has anybody looked into this?

External monitor never working as excepcted or laggy
I'm using Fedora 40 (Workstation Edition) x86_64 with Gnome 46.4 (wayland). It Works pretty well. Today I decided to connect it to my 4k TV (as monitor) with an HDMI cable. But almost everything was bad. When I try "join"ing screens my TV goes black and after a minute says "Check your device's power". I tried mirroring. It displayed correctly but it's really laggy. Not just on my TV, but also on my laptop's monitor. E.g For example in a game my laptop would normally get 300+ fps, it gets 30-40 when plugged in to TV or on an AAA game that will give me 90-120 fps on high settings, it gives me 20 fps when connected to TV. So it's really bad. I also tried using Gnome with XORG., because same thing also happened with hyprland (which is using wayland), but gnome xorg was pretty unstable. Opening discord, trying to mirror or join screens, opening steam etc. all of them crash it. And it says Log out on a white error screen flashing. For my specs: I'm using Asus TUF Dash F15 laptop: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile(4GB VRAM), 11th Gen Intel i5-11300H (8 cores) @ 4.400GHz, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Also, Nvidia X Server shows a lot more options on XORG, than wayland. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't open links in Wine games/apps on Kubuntu 24.04
I can't seem to open any links in programs running through wine - I first noticed this in Mod Organizer, where I can't open any mod pages, help pages, or authorize my Nexus account, but it's also an issue in other programs using wine in different prefixes.
Brave is my default browser - when I click on a link, the brave icon appears by my cursor, but no link opens up. If I close brave, it opens brave but not the webpage.
I tried changing my default browser to Firefox, and it doesn't work with that either.
This issue seems to beq similar to mine, and the poster is on Ubuntu 24.04.
I'm not sure what the next step is to debug this.

Can a Desktop Environment drastically impact temperatures?
This is not at all tested by me and is more anecdotal, but...
When i was using Gnome, temperatures in cyberpunk started at about 90C junction, and quickly hopped up to 95C and up with default fan curves. I had to spin the fans at about 2500 RPM just to keep it slightly under 90C.
Now i'm on KDE Plasma, and (this is the anecdotal non scientific part) while the ambient temperatures are a bit lower now, so of course, the temperatures will be lower but here's the thing - Now i'm getting juction temperatures of 75-80C with fans spinning at 500-1200RPM!
The ambient temperature is not *that* lower so that the GPU can go from "barely keeping it under 90C with 2500RPM" to "casually cooling the 75C junction with 1000RPM".
This is a drastic difference for ambient temperature difference of about 10C. I don't think 10C ambient temperature difference would equate to 20C difference in GPU temps with drastically lower fan speeds?
Cyberpunk also seems a bit smoother in frametimes overall on Plasma, but that's possibly because of the huge overheating that was happening on gnome...
Anyone have any similar experience?

New to Linux, having issues with launching games with Proton.
I've been trying to run Gmod on steam using proton, and when I try to launch it, it shows it as running for a few seconds and nothing happens. I've only been using Linux for about a week now. I've tried installing directx9 and loading it, yet nothing happens still. (I know I don't need to use proton to run it, but I'm using it as an example. All games I've tried don't function using it.)
This is what was printed when I used inxi -F.

Issues with Total War Warhammer 3, Proton and Wayland/X11.
Hi, I posted here about two weeks ago regarding an issue I was having with TWH3, one of my favourite and most played games. I managed to solve it by distrohopping to Nobara because Manjaro was screwing me over but I've got a new and kind of weird problem.
- Run it Native with Wayland, performs fine, no issues with stability vanilla or modded, but the Linux port is noticeably behind in patches and content and doesn't play nice with some mods due to being out of date.
- Run it with GE Proton in Wayland, game is lucky to make it past the launcher. Basically crashes 9/10 times on startup, with 1/10 times crashing on the main menu. Have tried verifying files, disabling mods, several fresh installs and mucking around with advanced launch options but nothing sticks.
- Run it with GE Proton in X11, game runs well enough but at noticeably far worse performance than Native Wayland; to be expected, but frustrating to know that I could run things better + X11 problems.
I get that this is most likely an Nvidia thing, since if you look at the specs below I am running an Nvidia card, but I've also considered other potential problems like Wayland being Wayland and maybe switching to something like Hyprland. If anyone's had any similar problems and knows potential fixes then sharing them would be highly appreciated.
Operating System: Nobara Linux 40
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.5.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2
Kernel Version: 6.10.7-200.fsync.fc40.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core Processor
Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2

Controller recommendations
What controllers have proper linux support? Was considering an xbox controller but saw a couple threads about bluetooth requiring some work. Is switch pro controller a good choice? cause I was going to get a switch anyway

What are the odds G.O.W. Ragnarok works on Linux when it launches on Steam in 9 days?
GOW (2018) ran pretty well.
I'm worried about the requirement of a PSN account. Is there a chance this includes Sony's PC DRM layer that blocks non-windows systems (with a very specific error message saying "use Windows") that we saw with Concord?
