Any way to rename a joystick ?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 10:01pm

Hello all,

I have a problem in a game and I suspect it's due to a special character in the joystick name. It's named "VKB-Sim © Alex Oz 2021 VKBsim Gladiator EVO R" and I suppose the " © " breaks saving in the game (project wingman).

I would like to know if anyone know a way to rename a joystick on Nobara 40.

issues running Steam Games on Ubuntu 24.04 XFCE4

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 9:04pm

i recently got from gnome to xfce4 for more customisation and i have terrible issues with steam games, especially my favourite, Team Fortress 2. loading screen looks a bit odd and then when i reach the main menu the whole system crashes forcing me to force restart. i’ve literally tried EVERYTHING. reinstalling drivers, reinstalling system,… literally. i can provide you my specs:

CPU: Ryzen 3 PRO 4350G GPU: RX 580 2048SP Motherboard: ASUS PRIME A320M-K RAM: 16GB

i know they are not good. it was a prebuilt “gaming” pc that didn’t even come with the GPU (i bought it separately). i unfortunately didn’t know shit about pcs when buying this stupid prebuilt. i utterly regret it. thank God i’m getting a big upgrade this Christmas. i’d really appreciate help from y’all. see you around!

best distro for light gaming

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 8:51pm

hi, considering moving from windows 11 to a lighter OS to try and speed up my laptop. the laptop is $200 with a 1.1 Ghz celaron and 4 Gb ram, so pretty weak. I don’t do anything on it but browse, watch videos, and play light games like minecraft. as a first-time linux user, what’s the fastest reliable and user-friendly distro i could upgrade from windows to?

Switching Nvidia GPU for AMD GPU -> no signal issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 7:36pm

Hello everyone,

I got myself an AMD GPU after I had some issues with my Nvidia GPU and after I go past the Grub menu I get a "no signal" from my monitor and it starts flickering (sometimes). I hear the "startup jingle" so I guess the system is booting completely just the video signal is missing.

the PC I am trying this on is running fedora 41 and I have tried everything from deleting/editing config files, uninstalling nvidia drivers, installing all firmware drivers there are etc.

Does anyone have an idea whats wrong here and how to fix it?

Not launch steam game on MX Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 4:55pm

When I try to play a Steam game on MX Linux, it doesn't start. I'd like to know how to start it.

https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers

I installed the following drivers with reference to this page.

sudo apt install linux-headers-amd64 # "deb bookworm main contrib non-free non-free-firmware" add to /etc/apt/sources.list sudo apt update sudo apt install nvidia-driverfirmware-misc-nonfree sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt update sudo apt install nvidia-driver-libs:i386http://deb.debian.org/debian/

Games with native Linux support were successfully launched. However, games that are not natively supported do not work. I tried several versions of Proton but they did not work. Hoyoplay via Lutris did not work too.

I entered PROTON_LOG=1 %command% in LAUNCH OPTION and output the log, but I got an error, but I don't know how to resolve it. I don't know if this error is the cause.

... err:kerberos:kerberos_LsaApInitializePackage no Kerberos support, expect problems ... err:ntlm:ntlm_LsaApInitializePackage no NTLM support, expect problems

environment

  • OS: MX Linux 23
  • DE: Xfce
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 10400
  • GPU: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3050

Sons of the Forest Mods

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 4:38pm

I am curios if anyone has gotten mods to work with SotF Steam version. I tried some mods that require the RedLoader and added

WINEDDLOVERRIDES="version=n, b" in the launch options but no luck.
Also tried to start it over Lutris and added the enviroment variable but still no luck (does the lutris start passes the env variables to steam?).

So has anyone any luck with that?

cheers

LAN EMULATION (Connecting two offices)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 3 Dec 2024 - 1:06pm

We would like to set up a Lan Emulation VPN for our company based on the case scenario below.

We are running windows Server 2016 which is hosting Tally Prime at a location called: Bugolobi.

We have a staff member (Walter) who seats at a different location called: Kakiri

Required: We would like user: Walter to connect to Tally system (on windows server 2016) directly as if he is on the same direct network of the server 2016.

Reality: The server 2016 is currently on a different ISP and Walter is also on a different ISP.
