Game crashes when starting a world in Don't Starve Together on Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Oct 2025 - 7:44pm

I’m having a serious issue running Don't Starve Together on my Linux laptop. My system has an Intel Core i3-1115G4, Intel UHD Graphics (Tiger Lake), 4GB RAM, running Linux Lite 7.0 LTS (based on Ubuntu 24.04). The game installs and starts loading, but after a while it crashes my system completely — the screen freezes and I have to force shutdown. This doesn’t happen on Windows; the game runs smoothly there. I’ve tried updating all packages and drivers, including Mesa Vulkan, OpenGL, and Intel graphics drivers. I also tested Vulkan support, ran the game with Proton, and disabled workshop downloads and background apps. I checked the game log thoroughly and found nothing — no errors, nothing unusual. Nothing works. It seems like the game doesn’t play nicely with Intel graphics on Linux, even though my system meets the requirements. I just wanted to report this issue and ask if anyone knows a fix, or if it’s a known incompatibility.

Making it clear that on Windows the game ran perfectly, even though my specifications are bad, the game does not require much

Updated bricked Minecraft

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Oct 2025 - 6:13pm

Hi guys, after updating my system, it updated to the latest Nvidia driver and now I can't play any 1.20.1 modpack. When I try to create/ start a new world, my laptop freezes, and does nothing, hard reset is the only option. How can I fix this? Everything works fine with 1.21.1 or any other version.

Guild Wars 2 launcher on CachyOS locking screen and input

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Oct 2025 - 5:41pm

Trying to launch Guild Wars 2 via Lutris; the game runs fine (when I can get in) but the launcher, as the title, completely locks my machine up.

Music and other audio will still play even when the locking happens, so I think it's just locking the screen and input.

I get occasional moments of usability which means with luck (and enough time) I can log in, and the moment the text fields of the launcher disappear the problems stop.

I'm up to date (ran pacman -Syu recently), have a NVidia 950M card in my laptop (which is apparently supported by the drivers).

Everything ran fine under windows.

I've searched around to see if I can find solutions to this problem, and I see that others had a at least similar issue due to a pixman issue, but I'm not running the offending version so I don't think it's that.

I'd really appreciate help with this issue, I'm fairly new to Linux and completely new to Linux gaming.

Edit: forgot to mention, using -autologin solves the problem, but I'd like to be able to use multiple accounts, and I'd like the underlying problem to be fixed too

is it worth buying second ssd for dual boot?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Oct 2025 - 5:00pm

assuming that I have the budget, should I buy second ssd for dual boot?

I plan to play games on both OS, whichever performs better with whichever game.

I currently have 2TB KC3000 ssd. if I buy second ssd, it will be of 500GB and half performance of KC3000.

What are the implications ?

and If I do end of with 2 ssds, on which one should I install linux and windows

Hi folks, sorry for the self‑promo. I’ve built an open‑source project that could be useful to some of you

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Oct 2025 - 3:43pm

TL;DR: Web dashboard for NVIDIA GPUs with 30+ real-time metrics (utilisation, memory, temps, clocks, power, processes). Live charts over WebSockets, multi‑GPU support, and one‑command Docker deployment. No agents, minimal setup.

Repo: https://github.com/psalias2006/gpu-hot

Why I built it

  • Wanted simple, real‑time visibility without standing up a full metrics stack.
  • Needed clear insight into temps, throttling, clocks, and active processes during GPU work.
  • A lightweight dashboard that’s easy to run at home or on a workstation.

What it does

  • Polls nvidia-smi and streams 30+ metrics every ~2s via WebSockets.
  • Tracks per‑GPU utilization, memory (used/free/total), temps, power draw/limits, fan, clocks, PCIe, P‑State, encoder/decoder stats, driver/VBIOS, throttle status.
  • Shows active GPU processes with PIDs and memory usage.
  • Clean, responsive UI with live historical charts and basic stats (min/max/avg).

Setup (Docker)

git clone https://github.com/psalias2006/gpu-hot cd gpu-hot docker-compose up --build # open http://localhost:1312

Is there anyone playing Legends of Runeterra in a Bottle?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 7 Oct 2025 - 3:25pm

Hello.
I am trying to run Legends of Runeterra (LoR).
I wanted to run them from a Bottle.
But I can't start it without riot client first and riot client doesn't want to get updated.
Unlike other riot games, LoR doesn't use Vanguard so it should be possible in some way.
Could anyone help me please?
