What Finally Fixed 'Mouse Escapes Game to 2nd Monitor' for me

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 8 hours 9 min ago

I've been using Linux exclusively for more than three years, and there have been a lot of improvements regarding gaming in that time.

However, one issue I've had to deal with the whole time is that, in many games that require the cursor to be locked to the game (e.g., for camera movement), the cursor would randomly escape to my second monitor. Also, it would not get locked to the game window after I tabbed out and back in again.

Even worse were games with parts that require a locked cursor and parts that allow a movable cursor (like Blue Prince, for example). This would usually unlock the cursor from the game window.

What I tried:

- Exclusive full screen, borderless window, and window.

- GameScope

- I also tried all the recommended Game Scope options, like --force-grab-cursor.

- Using Lutris and Steam

- Trying a multitude of different Proton versions

- Using protontricks/wine config in Lutris, etc., to enable cursor lock to the window.

I even swapped my GPU from Nvidia to AMD, though not to solve this issue, but rather to have a better GPU.

- Reinstalling the OS (Fedora Gnome).

However, no matter what I tried: Nothing changed. The cursor would not reliably stay locked to the game window. It was really infuriating.

What solved it in the end?

I went into Gnome's display options, set the scaling for both monitors to 100%, and made sure the bottom edges of both monitors were perfectly aligned. Suddenly, the cursor stayed locked to the game, and tabbing into the game reliably captured the cursor every time.

I hope this trivial solution helps someone else who struggles with the same problem!

To still have a sort of scaling on my monitors I used gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.25

The current state of launchers

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11 hours 2 min ago

I am confused, I have been using lutris for a long time (since I started using Linux), but recently I’ve encountered crashes and bugs which prompted me to simply find a good alternative, and my god do people have strong opinions.

During my search, I found people surprised that lutris has not been updated for a year now, and a lot of saying bottles don’t work and hard and bad and they scared me as I’ve used it and it seemed really good (and things related to bottles next I don’t get). I also found a launcher called faugus but it seems really new and I’m unsure if it has what lutris or bottles have in terms of stability and features.

I am simply looking for something that is still being updated, has almost the same features as lutris, so access to windows games and launchers like epic and Ubisoft and so on, and importantly, easy to manage the proton and dependencies versions. I am currently using protonup-QT to install the latest proton on steam so lutris could use it.

What do you use and why? I understand this question has been asked a lot but the why is important in such questions to understand why one launcher was chosen over the other.

About Linux native games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 hours 6 min ago

Wasn't sure about which flair or tag to put so I'm gonna go plain. This might get asked a dozen or a thousand times already but there have been new developments in recent times.

Paradox games have provided Linux native games, most notably Hearts of Iron IV & Europa Universalis 4, but seeing that new EU5 has dropped Linux native support citing "increased work on support and development of Proton" which I think is just bs and laziness.

With booming success of handhelds running Linux and upcoming Linux consoles by Valve (Steam) it actually surprises me that lots of new games don't have either Native nor somewhat good Proton support (mainly thinking of games like Call of Duty not working due to their kernel-level anti-cheat) with around 4 million steam decks around the world, that's quite considerable marketshare, if they sold just a million of copies that would be significant earning.

Now my question is, why are investments into Linux quite low from biggest of developers, while small, up and coming developers from games such as Dispatch or Silksong, have quite good proton support and their games work like a charm.

Bazzite vs Nobara, have mostly debian experience, so which should I get?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 12 hours 25 min ago

I've been torn between these two considering how well they do gaming in their own way but I can only work with one on my machine right now.

Hello Dear Linux Gamers!

We just released our game Dice of Kalma last week and since some of our devs are Linux users we decided to bring that game for Linux as well!

Dice of Kalma is a deckbuilding roguelike where you play dice against Kalma, the grim guardian of the Underworld. Build a deck of powerful skulls, find synergies, and turn the dice to your favor to escape back to the world of the living.

Hopefully you enjoy it as much as we do :)

Switching to Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 hours 21 min ago

So I’ve been looking into Linux and I wanna switch from windows but I’m scared that if I hate it I won’t be able to switch back to windows because I don’t have a physical hard drive big enough to hold all my stuff on to use when I switch. I’ve used virtual machines and like them but I need some advice on what distributions are the most user friendly for customization but also gaming. I don’t play anything with anti cheat so I’m not worried about it. I’m just scared of losing everything and messing up my pc. I also don’t wanna try switching back to windows then not being able to use the same key if I really do hate using Linux lol. Please help.

Beginner question about nvidia gpu on linix

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 13 hours 24 min ago

I own a steam deck , use the desktop version and now i download bazzite ( because people said it the same as steam os) on my pc. Why? Because i kinda give up with windows. I still a beginner but kinda familliar in linux.

  1. The real question how do i download nvidia app (rtx4070 my gpu) on linux. I really need to use the ai sh*t. I prefer my game running in 2k 240fps using nvidia smooth motion.

  2. What important app that i need in bazzite or linux in general that small thing that change my experiance.

  3. Is there something i should know about linux that probably helpful in the future
