Should I switch to Linux for better fps
I have a i3 10th gen with uhd graphics. It CANNOT game. The least it can run is minecraft at 60 fps. By using mods like sodium i run it at 120 fps. But now I am bored of normal minecraft. So I tried modpacks but they run at 30-40 fps with a lot of fps drops. Should I switch to Linux for better fps? I am very new to this I don't know what and where to download. Please help.

steam among us online is weirdly broken for Fedora Linux
i used the flatpak steam version before and thought the reason it wasn't working was bc of flatpak so i switched to the rpm version of steam and im still going through the same problem. yes i switched through experimental and hotfix and nothing changed. whenever i go click on find a lobby i just get stuck in a endless loading loop and theres no way for me to check if anything is happening. i even had left it loading for a good hour and nothing happened.
idk what flairs to add so dont worry about it if its the wrong flair.
im not too sure if i messed something up bc i been having some internet problem internally with the operating system where sometimes it would randomly disconnect me and reprompt the password for it. im using Fedora KDE Plasma version.
if needed more detail on the operating system lmk.

Is there a remotely easy way to merge proton/wine prefixes?
I have a game (Elite) + two utility programs (Voice Attack & another app) that needs to be in the same process context: Voice attack needs to be able to inject Windows key and game controller event messages to Elite's process. I believe that can only be done if they're both being managed by the same wineserver process.
Just running them is the easy part like WINEPREFIX="/path/2/elites/pfx" protonOrwineExec /path/2/VoiceAttack but I also need to carry over unique user.reg registry entries.
One idea I had with Voice Attack is to install it, delete the prefix Steam made for it, sym link VA's prefix path to Elites, and then force it to reinstall VA and hopefully not murder the things that Elite needs to run.
Otherwise I am not looking for an alternative to VA. I made my own version of VA a few years ago using a ASR/STT model but I am getting tired of maintaining it and I prefer the voice packs HCS makes for VA better.

I really want to join Linux but worried about compatibility.
I have been on the fence about going Linux for over a year, but now I want to switch. I understand Proton helps compatibility with a lot of Steam games, but for me its non steam games that I worry about.
So which distro would be good for a tech literate beginner. I don't mind doing research and stuff and have a high end, but very old, pc.
Also how compatible are games like League of Legends and Escape from Tarkov?

Does MSFS2020 work at all on Mint?
so far I can’t even get past the EULA, I cannot click on accept.
I never had this trouble on Windows 10 on the same rig.
Do I need to share specs?

Linux gamers didn't do anything wrong, but they might pay for Windows piracy anyway
New Steam Games with Native Linux Builds, including Wasteland Bites and Stiff Neck - 2026-04-08 Edition
Windows vs Linux, one month later…..
So, I’ve switch over to using a dual-boot system that features both bazzite and cachyOS. Prior to this, the steam deck is the only Linux device I’ve used, for less than 25 hours total. All other pc’s I’ve used have ranged from windows xp to windows 10. I’ve had the system running for just over a month. The only other computer I’ve allowed myself to use is my previous laptop, and only to move files/passwords over as needed. I tried to do any work/gaming exclusively on the Linux machine. Here are some thoughts and comments: roast my opinion if needed 😂
While both OS require a time sink to learn, most people I know received a good portion of that time sink into windows before they consciously knew they were doing so, just by daily life exposure to computers thru school, work, family pcs. Because of that, the initial experience of Linux can feel very uncomfortable. But if you can be patient, that passes pretty quick if you just dig in and use resources avalible thru YouTube, FAQ’s and a decent understanding of how to use a search engine online. It’s not rocket science, it just takes some exposure.
Once you start to try out some things, install something using terminal. Figure out your rgb or fan control. Work all the way thru the problem, backup frequently, and accept that you may need to use the backup once or twice. Just as you would have with windows when first learning.
I think that at the end of the month, seeing both some minor, but consistent fps improvements in games, load times seeming faster because the os is doing less when gaming. I am by no means a power user, more so just patient enough to figure it out when something doesn’t work. I’ve had to walk away frustrated a couple times thruout the month. But I would recommend trying it. The lack of bloatware and unwanted updates is great.
Best comparison in my mind is this: an American growing up learning the imperial system. It is inherently more complicated, but we already know it. Metric feels different at first, but once you put in a pretty basic amount of learning, the metric system just makes more sense. Same thing with Linux.
Give it a try, or don’t, but that’s where I’ve landed on the issue!

Issues with 3D games
So I have this weird issue with games after installing Linux. Games that have any 3D rendering have massive stuttering and performance issues. I have the most up to date drivers for my devices and running Linux mint. See image for system specs.

Anyone using an MMO mouse with linux, Im after something where all the buttons work, not to bothered about rgb stuff. Any suggestions?
Fix for graphical artifacts glitches on NVIDIA 595 drivers (The Last of Us Part 2)
I found a workaround for the weird artifacts glitches and shapes appearing in some games on the NVIDIA 595 drivers. This also resulted in highly stable performance for me in The Last of Us Part II.
- Go to the game settings and raise the Texture quality to the maximum to fill up your VRAM completely
- The game will lag heavily (dropping to around 2 FPS) or seem like it's freezing
- Exit the settings menu and return to the actual gameplay screen
- Open the settings again and reduce the Texture quality back to a suitable level for your VRAM
After doing this, the lag should disappear, your FPS will stabilize nicely, and most importantly the graphical glitches will completely vanish
I am not sure if this applies only to The Last of Us Part II. If anyone is experiencing the same issue in other games, give this a try.

If you're having performance issues, check your power settings
This might be a complete no-brainer for a lot of people on this subreddit, but as someone who recently swapped to Linux from Windows and started benchmarking some games, it went completely over my head.
I was having loads of framerate drops on a bunch of games (Nier Automata, Final Fantasy 14, etc) and i couldn't for the life of me figure it out why. Tried many different versions of proton, compatibility tricks, you name it.
Turns out it was just my power profile set to "balanced" that was downclocking the CPU and causing massive frame drops. After i set it to "performance", all my framerate problems magically went away, and i felt so dumb.
Not a single guide out there mentioned it could be a factor, presumably because it is quite obvious.
Posting here just in case someone is facing the same issues, as stupid as it sounds.

Hope it helps
You can turn on the CPU wattage by clicking the red button on goverlay's metrics

8bitdo 2C ultimate wired on Debian?
Currently my laptop had Debian 12, the kernal is the 6.1.0-44-amd64, I my Xbox 360 wired controller is starting to die. I was wandering if this controller is compatible, I found some posts from a year ago and the aswer are a bit confused and not really clear. Does anyone know about the compatibility? Because it's listed to be compatible only with Windows and Android. Thank you in advance!

CS2 randomly stops having audio, any help?
Hey everyone
I have recently been playing cs2 with my friends but for some reason, after like 15 minutes playing a game, all audio suddenly stops.
This makes the game not very enjoyable, so I'd love to fix this if possible
I tried a pipewire thingy but turns out that was from 2 years ago lmao, and I didn't find anything recent to help. Does anyone have a clue?

Tell me what options I have for HWINFO64 and Fan Control. The two programs stopping me from maining CachyOS
I have tried multiple times to switch to Linux as my main OS. But no HWINFO64 and no Fan Control have stopped me every time. No afterburner for setting 80% power limit kind of stinks but I know it's possible to set this via konsole. Not sure how reliable it is doing it that way though..
I have a 4090 so I need to be able to monitor and set alarms for 12vhpwr voltage...just in case. This may be less necessary when I eventually get a wireview pro 2 or Ampinel unit. Until then, I haven't been able to find any suitable alternatives on Linux for HWINFO64.
Fan Control there is simply nothing as good as this for Linux. I have a fan curve for my CPU fans, a fan curve for 9 NF A12x25 case fans, and a fan curve for my 4090. I have it optimized to be as quiet as possible while still retaining good temps.
People will say well just use Bios fan control, but even set manually I just can't get it as smooth/quiet/reliable as with Fan Control. Being able to tie all fans to different graphs and select which sensor to base them off of is just the best way to do it hands down.
Do I have any options here?

sched-ext (scx_lavd) and WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY at the same time - Yay or Nay?
I'm a noob in the Linux Gaming space, so apologies for my novice question. I have searched this subreddit to see if this question was already answered, but I couldn't find it.
Question: is it generally OK to use sched-ext (scx_lavd) and WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY at the same time?
Context: I have a 9950X3D, and I was used to being able to have games run on CCD0 only on Windows. I learned of the WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY launch option in Steam, and that seemed to be working great.
Later, I learned about sched-ext (scx_lavd in particular seems to be recommended for 1% lows), and I have been using these at together to satisfactory performance.
However, a friend of mine said that you should not use these together as they might interfere with each other and cause frametime spikes. In theory that sounds plausible but I have not noticed this during gameplay. (I mainly play The Finals if that matters.)
What are your best practices regarding using these two methods at the same time? Thanks in advance!
