How do i run steam and selected steam games on integrated GPU
- Arch Linux (kernel: 6.18.2)
- Hyprland: v0.52.2
- nvidia-open: 590.48.01
- mesa: 25.3.2
- gamescope: 3.16.19
Both the steam client and games start on the dGPU.
The steam client is a bit weird since it says steamwebhelper uses the dGPU as per lsof /dev/nvidia* (but not nvidia-smi). From testing launching the client wakes the gpu from sleeping for a bit, but then it goes back to sleep and using the client does not bring it back. Closing the client wakes it up for a bit again. This happens with all electron apps though and it's tolerable so it's not as much of a problem.
The second one is all steam games launch on the dGPU seemingly no matter what I do. A big problem with trying to google this is that everyone else seems to be having the exact opposite problem, and the fixes from the few posts available do not actually fix the issue in my case. Here are the things I've tried to remedy this:
- AQ_DRM_DEVICES="/dev/dri/amd-igpu" set in uwsm
- __EGL_VENDOR_LIBRARY_FILENAMES=/usr/share/glvnd/egl_vendor.d/50_mesa.json set in uwsm
- __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=mesa
- DRI_PRIME=0
- MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT="1002:1900"
- gamescope --prefer-vk-device "1002:1900"
The complete steam launch command looks like this:
__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=mesa DRI_PRIME=0 MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT="1002:1900" gamescope --prefer-vk-device "1002:1900" -W 2560 -H 1600 -r 165 -f -- %command%
The games I've tested are CrossCode and Hollow Knight if that helps.
Also in order to use the iGPU as much as possible i do not have any env variables set as specified by https://wiki.hypr.land/Nvidia/.

Two games, one PC
I’ve done some searching and seen a few posts about this, but they end up with VMs or multi-user and/or multiple GPUs.
I currently play Minecraft with my kid by running a server and firing up two clients. One client has the controlify mod installed and the other does not.
One player can use a controller, the other the mouse and keyboard. One player is on monitor 1, the other is on monitor 2.
All of this runs on a single Linux machine and single user signed in. I believe it works because the controlify mod picks up the controller input and even if the window for that client is not focused, it just works. Since the mod is not installed for the other user, and Minecraft doesn’t have controller support, the client only reacts to the M&K.
But now I’d like to try other games. For example, I’d like to play Diablo with M&K, while kiddo plays Minecraft with controlify, or something else.
Is there any easy way to isolate input to certain windows? In the D4/minecraft example, D4 supports controller, so the controller input starts controlling both games.
It seems like an input isolation type solution would be much easier than trying to setup VM or multi-user in the OS.
I am using CachyOS, AMD 7800x3d, Nvidia 4080S.
Minecraft is Java edition, just fired up through terminal, connecting to server running on same machine. Diablo 4 is running through Heroic within latest GE-proton latest.
Any ideas? or if my “input isolation” idea is just crazy, tell me.

Steam and OW2 issue
Sometimes I want to see a person's stats and when I go I accidentally click on Steam proifle, not battle.net prifle. So steam comes up. However, if I click back into the game, the game no longer accept key or mouse inputs. The mouse cursor moves though, but not accept clicks. The mouse cursor is from OW2 (stylized mouse cursor), not the generic desktop mouse cursor, so it seems the game at least sees the movement.
I have no idea how to fix this as I have to force close the game to fix it. I don't know of any way to recover. This gives me a timed temp ban every time it happens, and it adds up.

Steam download stuck at 1% on Linux Mint (Debian package) – help!
I’m using Linux Mint and installed Steam from the default software manager (Debian/apt version). Whenever I try to download a game or when Steam tries to update its runtime/Proton, the download starts but gets stuck at 1%.
I have plenty of disk space and the download speed is fine. I think it might be related to permissions or the Steam installation path (~/.steam/debian-installation).
Has anyone experienced this before? What’s the best way to fix it? Should I switch to the Flatpak version of Steam?
Thanks in advance!

Trouble Getting Avermedia Live Streamer Ultra HD (GC571) to Work in OBS
Hello! I've recently switched to Linux (Kubuntu) from Windows and in my process of getting everything I used to use to work on Linux, I have discovered that my capture card is not streaming any video through OBS.
I have OBS installed through Flatpak and used Flatseal to enable access to all of my devices and yet the program doesn't seem to pick it up at all and only shows a black screen when the device is used as a Video Capture Device Source.
I'm including screenshots of my OS fetch, the settings in OBS, and Flatseal in the hopes that someone can help me with this.

BC-250 PC Discord Invite
Looking to join the BC-250 PC build discord server but all the invites I have seen has expired. Can I get a link if possible please?
Need to purchase one and also wanted to see if someone in there would have a better price than Ebay for me to purchase. (Obviously not $30-50 price or anything like that... I know that time has passed.)
Going to be using it for the living room to play Minecraft with my son.
Thanks everyone and happy holidays!

Poor performance
Today i started using CachyOS on my Acer Nitro V15 with an RTX 4050 and i5 13420H. After i tried to run the finals with CachyOS Proton with the Nvidia drivers that sudo chwd -a gave me (It gave me the open-source ones, and i think this Is the fault), the game ran at 20 FPS. That's an 83% drop! Any help pls?

Switched to CachyOS
Hello fellas
Ive recently switched to CachyOS and basically thats my main OS on my PC
theres but...
I miss my favourite game called 'Apex Legends' and unfortunately for like 1.5yr its unavailable for linux.
I was thinking about dual boot Windows10 only for getting apex to work.
Whats the best way to do it? I was thinking about some sort of USB Stick only with windows so I just plug pendrive, boot windows and Im good to go. I dont need windows on my main drive and I dont want spend extra money on one.
Any good ideas and some tinkering around? Thanks!

Tried installing battle.net via Faugus Launcher: won't launch
I installed Battle.net via the Faugus Launcher. Whenever I try to start it, it won't start. That said, I'm using the Linux Development Environment on an Acer 514 Chromebook Plus. Am I just intrinsically limited by hardware?

Has anyone figured out how to run BG3MM on Linux? I'm at the end of my rope.
Hello everyone!
I've recently switched over to Linux from windows, specifically Debian 13 and everything has been working amazing, EXCEPT Baldurs Gate 3 and Mod Manager. I have tried every single fix I could find on the internet and I can't get the Mod Manager to export my mods to the game. I've made sure the paths were correct, downloaded all of the necessary dependencies, uninstalled and then reinstalled everything and nothing works. I'm at the end of my rope and debating switching back to windows even though I hate it so much. Has anyone gotten it working or have a surefire way of getting it to work? I don't understand what I'm missing when following all of the guides. Right now I'm sitting on a fresh install for BG3 so if anyone has any insight, I'm down and willing to try it out.
Thank you!

Wils Edison’s Way: LotRO on Linux without the stress
This guide is for those of you who want to get maximum performance out of older hardware (like the Samsung NP370R5E) by using "Naked Wine"
Preparing the system
Open the terminal and prepare the machine for 32-bit architecture (required for LotRO) and install Wine
- sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
- sudo apt update && sudo apt install wine-stableFind your graphic IDs
To force the game onto the Radeon card, we need to know which one it is:
- Run vulkaninfo --summary and look for the "Vendor ID" and "Device ID" for your dedicated card.Setting up the Edison script
Create a file called lotro.sh paste the following to enable FSR and the correct GPU:
Bash
#!/bin/bash
export DRI_PRIME=1
export MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=1002:6660 # Replace with your ID
export WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1
wine-stable LotroLauncher.exe
- Make the file executable: chmod +x lotro.sh
- In-game optimization
- FPS lock:Set Max FPS to 40 to keep the temperature at 66-67°C.
- The store: Check off for "External Store" so that it opens in Firefox.

Witcher 3 Next-Gen: Significant FPS drops in GPU-heavy areas compared to Windows 11 (RX 9070XT / CachyOS) (DX11)
Hi,
I recently switched from Windows 11 to CachyOS (GNOME) and I'm struggling with performance consistency in The Witcher 3 (Next-Gen). While the game runs smoothly in CPU-heavy areas (Novigrad/Oxenfurt), I’m experiencing significant performance hits in GPU-bound scenarios like forests. (I'm playing on DX11 version with DXVK, bcs DX12 sucks even in windows)
What im using:
- Windows 11: Consistent 144 FPS (capped, capable of ~200 FPS).
- CachyOS: Drops below 90 FPS in dense forest areas.
My Specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: Radeon RX 9070XT
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30
- Drivers: Mesa 25.3.2-arch1.2
- Kernel/Scheduler: scx_lavd
What I've tried so far:
- Runners: Proton Experimental, Proton-GE.
- Environment Variables: PROTON_USE_WAYLAND=1, PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1.
- Sync methods: Tested with fsync, esync, and ntsync.
- Display: Tested on both native Wayland and XWayland.
Despite these tweaks, the GPU utilization in forests seems to result in much lower performance compared to Windows, while CPU-heavy cities perform as expected.
Is there anything specific to the RX 9070XT or Mesa 25.3 that I should look into? Or perhaps some additional RADV / vulkan environment variables that could help with performance overhead in DX12-to-Vulkan translation?

Bash
!/bin/bash Aktiver FSR og DXVK for maksimal flytexport DXVK_HUD=compiler,fps
export WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1
export WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=2 , eller 1 enda mer detaljer i FSR oppskaleringa!
export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/Spill/lotro_prefix
cd "/sti/til/din/installasjon/The Lord of the Rings Online/"
wine-stable LotroLauncher.exe
For å få "wow-fart" og lav temperatur på maskinvare som Intel 620, følg disse innstillingene inne i spillet:
- Screen Mode: Full Screen.
- Full Screen Resolution: Sett denne til skjermens faktiske oppløsning (f.eks. 2560x1440).

alternate connecting/disconnecting charger during heavy gaming
Latest Steam stable update is live as Windows gets 64-bit
How tricky is it to swap from Windows to Linux for gaming as someone who doesn't want to deal with much jank or problem solving?
Question in text really. Everyone I know who does use Linux has Engineer Brain and enjoys problem solving and doing lots of manual fiddling with their OS. As someone who just wants to be able to plug in and play and not faff around with technical installation issues, is Linux gaming at a point where a computer casual can get on it? If so, what would be the OS and software to look at?
