Xbox 360 mode in Gulitkit KingKong 2 Pro controller not working on Arch.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 18:21

I installed Arch a few weeks ago, I have to admit I was biting more than I could chew. It was an eye opening experience and I'm surprised I have not broken my PC yet, getting a lot more comfortable with the CLI.

I'm not used to how stripped down of an OS Arch is, not criticising it, it's just not for me, just had to dip my toes in it to learn this lesson. Will stick to it until SteamOS comes out (it will happen, I'm sure of it!!)

And this is where I am having an issue, I got the Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro, it has 4 modes.
-Nintendo Switch Pro
-Xbox 360
-Android controller
-Direct Input

Up until a few days ago, I have been using the controller on emulators. On Steam, just my keyboard and mouse. I had the controller on Nintendo Switch Pro mode, I started Elden Ring and for some reason it would not recognise any inputs, so I tried switching to my Xbox 360 mode and the controller just keeps vibrating every other second.
Never done this before, I am assuming it is missing xbox 360 drivers. I never had to add these drivers as the controller just worked out of the box, with USB cable, on other OSs (Linux Mint, Fedora 38-40, Manjaro, Kubuntu).
Like I said, the controller works, If I use Nintendo Switch Pro (i know the drivers were added to the Linux Kernel some time ago), or Android mode, Steam recognises a controller input but it isn't working on Elden Ring, but it does work on Resident Evil 4 (2005), so I assume Elden Ring requires an Xbox 360 input.
Emulators recognise the controller in both modes and the inputs work (RPCS3, PCSX2, Dolphin).

Has anyone experienced this with a Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro and Arch?

Also, why is the Switch controller drivers added to the Linux Kernel and the Xbox 360 ones not, there are probably 3 or 4 xbox 360 controllers for every switch controller in the wild?

Steam Big Picture Box

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 18:00

I'm thinking about coming back to Linux for gaming because I really want to see if I can have a more console-like experience. I have a Steam Deck and I've been following recent projects like Bazzite that are able to replicate the Big Picture Mode experience on a normal PC. The problem is I have an NVIDIA card. I initially went NVIDIA for the sake of work, but now that I'm offloading that to another workstation, I have a PC I'd like to use for pure gaming. The 4070 Super is a perfectly functional, fast, and power efficient graphics card, but I haven't for the life of me been able to get a gamescope session like the Steam Deck's working. Anyone have a better experience with NVIDIA in this use case? Should I just suck it up and sell it for an AMD card?

In the back of my mind, I'm thinking about using Windows and having it boot straight into big picture, but I feel like Windows isn't a good fit for a console-like experience for many reasons.

Want to ditch windows, need a bit of guidance.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 17:40

As title states, I can't stand windows anymore. I would like to swap to Linux but have reservations due to some of the main games I play being incompatible (checked ProtonDB against steam). I record from time to time using OBS and use a variety of software for remote work. I'd like to know if there is a version of Linux that will support my needs for various software and hardware. Is there one version that supports practically everything? What should I know before switching? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm a newbie to Linux and day-to-day usage. Only version I'm familiar with is Ubuntu.

Issues with Marvel Rivals on Linux Mint and Manjaro

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 17:25

On ProtonDB it says that Marvel Rivals is Gold and works perfectly with some tweaks, but what tweaks are those?

On Linux Mint and on Manjaro, I tested via Steam and I got the game to run both times, but the opening movie, title screen, and loading screens during matches, are all black- is there a way to fix this? I experienced this in Mint and in Manjaro.

DLSS Frage Generation in Dragon Age: Veilguard - DLL Issue

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 17:24

Hi, I have been trying to get frame generation to work in Veilguard.

I am using bottles flatpak install, and have tried both ge-proton 9.22 and kron4ek-wine-10-rc4.

The game runs fine, and DLSS upscaling is working, however, frame generation is disabled and greyed out in game. Now I have heard it seems to work OK for others, so I was wondering what I need to do to get it running.

I managed to narrow it down to this wine error when launching the game:

013c:err:module:import_dll Library nvcuda.dll (which is needed by L"G:\\Games\\Dragon Age The Veilguard\\nvngx_dlssg.dll") not found

However, I have put nvcuda.dll into the game install dir, into the bottle win32, and it also seems to be included with the runners I am using, as I can see them in the directories, eg:
/home/xx/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/runners/ge-proton9-22/files/share/default_pfx/drive_c/windows/system32/nvcuda.dll
/home/xx/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/runners/ge-proton9-22/files/share/default_pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64/nvcuda.dll
/home/xx/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/runners/soda-9.0-1/lib/wine/x86_64-windows/nvcuda.dll
/home/xx/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/runners/soda-9.0-1/lib32/wine/i386-windows/nvcuda.dll

Any ideas what I am missing, or where I need to put the DLL so that it is picked up correctly by WINE?

Switched from Ubuntu 24.04 to 24.10, now some Steam games are causing mouse and controller issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 17:12

I upgraded from 24.04 because it was not stable on my machine and throwing pop-ups that something had crashed. The system in general seems more stable now, but I'm now having some issues when trying to play games on Steam.

I've so far only tested a few games (BeamNG.Drive (most recent Proton version), Automation (Proton 7.0-6), Portal (native), Portal (Proton Hotfix). The issues occur for both BeamNG.Drive and for Automation, but Portal seems to not trigger the glitches regardless of whether it runs on Proton or not.

The problem that occurs has to do with processing the inputs from my mouse and controller, the keyboard seems to be completely unaffected. The symptoms start showing after a few minutes of playing and get worse over time. After closing the game, it takes a few moments to go away again (longer for longer playing sessions)

Issues with controller seem to be limited to digital inputs being detected inconsistently. Detection of inputs becomes rarer over time, and once an input gets detected, it behaves like I'm holding the button down. Analogue inputs seem completely unaffected.

Issues for the mouse are similar with clicking and scrolling, but to add to those issues, moving the mouse is also very inconsistent and jittery making it really difficult to close the game.

Any clues as to why this is happening and how to potentially fix it would be much appreciated.

Gamescope/mouse, can't go borderless now

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 17:04

Gamescope (Relative Mouse Mode) resolved all my mouse issues (jumping cursor when clicking/random camera movement).
However, it has broken my borderless window mode. Now, regardless of my settings, the mouse is confined to the game, and I cannot move it to another monitor. Is there a way to fix this?
i play WoW btw, so it's nice to move cursor to change song etc.

A question about the performance of IL-2 Sturmovik GB in Linux

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 16:33

Hi all, is there anyone who has the same performance as Windows playing il2 great battles in Linux?

Out of the box I was getting exactly half the fps I got with windows, now after some tweaking I'm still getting 40% less fps with Linux - I'm running around 40 fps minimum with Linux and around 70 minimum with windows and unfortunately that means I'm at the limits of playable with Linux

Am I missing something? Am I right to persist or is it a lost cause?

I'm using Proton 9 from Steam with arch and an nvidia 1660

Anyway to get HDR working with Proton that doesn't involve gamescope?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 15:30

I've been using gamescope to get HDR for a couple of games I'm playing but recently ran into a couple of issues(input shenanigans) and tried the other method with https://github.com/Zamundaaa/VK_hdr_layer, to get HDR in games through Wayland wine.

After fiddling around a bit I reached the conclusion that while it can work with wine, as long as I setup the prefix with dxvk/vkd3d, Proton just hangs and games never start.

I tested it with a couple of games and while I managed to get HDR with one of them, Ghost of Tsushima, some others wouldn't boot when paired with straight wine while working fine through proton(UMU or steam).

So, is there anyway I can get all the game compatibility niceties of proton and HDR without relying on gamescope?

Gaming on Linux now is so easy.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 06. Januar 2025 - 15:24

Gaming on linux with bottles now is so easy that after trial and error for quite sometimes. Idk for you all but i been researching and googling many solutions how to install cracked games on linux to try before i buy legit games on steam, but many YouTube videos or old reddit posting is not working on me. I also tried using lutris and heroic but it's sometimes working and sometimes not playable. Before, i also tried using bottles on my steamdeck but it's not working because no proper tutorial how to use it. Until i saw uninstaller on Tools in Bottles. Add/Remove Programs got install function in it. But using it is a bit trickier. Need Flatseal to route your drive installer and installation path into your Bottles and set the drive letter in Bottles settings. Also need to disable DXVK and VK3D for the games to run properly depends on what games you want to play. i mostly play older games that run dx11 or dx9 like Burnout paradise remastered. By disabling this two, my game running smoothly on my low end r7 gpu. Btw, im repurpose my old pc using i5 6gen with 16gb ram and r7 amd gpu and install kubuntu on it. I tried bazzite but idk why my resolution become distorted with low resolution after installing bazzite. But so far so good. The only caveat is i cannot play any steam games i have on my library. I install cracked version of half life 2 using bottles and legit half life 2 from my steam library, cracked version running smoothly with decent frame rate compared to steam version of half life 2. 🥺 That's all i want to share with you guys. Thanks for reading and sorry for my bad English.
