Really hope the new NVIDIA cards work well with Linux and SteamOS Beta. The new DF analysis shows DLSS4 improvements in image quality go way beyond 'fake frames'.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 04:26

Watch the video. The quality of the image reconstruction has seen a major improvement. No ghosting where previously seen. No shimmering. Better details.

Anyone get Sonic 06 legacy of solaris working on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 04:10

It looks like I'd need to get a mod manager and Xenia working? Not sure what to do.

Good pc for Bazzite console

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 03:37

If I want to have a small gaming pc that connects primarily to my TV and runs Bazzite, what is a good pc to buy for that? Looking for something that isn't a ton of trouble to setup. Thanks!

What are the differences between Bazzite and Steam OS?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 02:17

I read that Bazzite is effectively Steam OS, so does the news of Steam OS becoming available for general handhelds effectively "kill" the Bazzite project? Or does Bazzite do other things beyond just have Steam OS be available? I'm still completely new to Linux gaming and have just been rocking my ROG Ally for the past few months. I would love some answers on this from someone knowledgeable with both OSs.

Got a 4K monitor... Need some help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 01:13

Hello redditors.

After a lot of deliberation around OLED, I got a 32" Dell IPS monitor with 4k resolution. Good for me.

I soon discovered that my Gnome Desktop on Ubuntu looks best and is most functional with 125% fractional scaling. However, when I boot a game the only resolution offered in the game settings is some weird scaled thing that looks bad and I can't run native 4k. I soon discovered the issue with mutter not being able to handle such a situation well and have learned that I have to either switch to 100% right before gaming, which is cumbersome, or run 200% all the time, which looks weird and hinders desktop use.

What do other Linux 4K gamers do? Is KDE my only real option here? I would like to avoid a system reinstall, is there some hacky work around for Gnome?

That's my main concern, but

Issue #2: I haven't tried a lot of games yet but The Hunter COTW had a bright white line on the side of the screen when running at native res. Is this an issue too?

Thanks,

Is it possible to play Settlers 3 at higher resolutions?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 01:01

I installed Settlers 3 with wine and can run it successfully. But the game supports only 3 low(er) resolutions. There is a wide screen patch which does not appear to work with wine. Settlers United does not start at all.

Have you any tips and tricks how to play the game at higher resolutions?

help with strange freeze on Final Fantasy XVI

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 00:57

I've been playing the game on the PC for days, without any problems other than low fps drops, but nothing very important, the game was running perfectly, but this morning I turned on the PC and when I load a save, the game freezes after 15 seconds exactly, I'm on the mission after unlocking ifrit, every time I get to cid's room the game freezes, and after a few minutes it closes, I've already tried checking the game files, I've uninstalled it and I installed it, I've done everything, but without success, can anyone help me?

specifications (I play with everything on low, using legacy mode, I've already tested all upscaling and this is the one that gives me the most fps)

ryzen 5 3500

gtx 1660 super (drivers are 560 and run good)

16GB RAM

ssd 512 nvme2

Linux Ubuntu (ran perfectly until today)

Proton GE 22 (tested with the experimental one, and without proton)

startup commands used:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%

mods: FFXVIfix

Ryujinx in Dock opens the Wrong Version

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 00:52

Hi,

I'm new to Ubuntu, but when I try to open Ryujinx from the .desktop link in the Dock, it opens a version (System Version: 0.0.0), which freezes and won't open any games. However, when I navigate to the Folder in Files and open it manually, it shows the correct, working version (System Version: 19.0.0) from the same shortcut at Dock. Same thing happens when I add the direct shortcut to Non-Steam Games in Steam. Is there any way to stop this from happening? It's really annoying to keep going to that folder. Thanks in advance!

Poor Performance in The Finals

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 00:13

I'm trying to play The Finals on steam. I'm using proton experimental with launch arguments from protondb. However, for some reason it feels really slow. Like when I move my mouse, it feels like there's a delay in-game. Anybody know how to fix this?

I'm on Linux Mint Cinnamon 22. I have an Nvidia rtx 4070 super and I'm using the nvidia drivers.

I just realised how fucking bad my windows experience was😂

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 08. Januar 2025 - 00:00

I use my pc mainly for gaming and have always used windows. I never thought about installing linux on it. Instead of trying to get more performance with another operating system, I sqeezed every bit of performance out of windows with downgrading to win10 and even using atlas os but all of that didn‘t make a big difference. Then I asked a friend of mine if he could show me linux because I knew he was mainly using linux. After that I bought an extra ssd, built it into my pc, installed nobara on it and ooh my dear.. everything is so smooth. Games like minecraft or roblox run with like 60 more fps than they did on windows. Even windows games are running great. While playing, I realised that Guns in shooter games are shooting like 0.2 seconds earlier on linux. Thats a huge difference in shooter games. How the fuck could an operating system change my input delay that I wasn‘t even aware of?? Is it because of the razer drivers or windows? Windows seems like useless to me now with the only use of it being to change the lights on my keyboard or to use office apps for school.

What are your thoughts?

Building an all-AMD PC for my 4k oled TV. What will I be missing with no HDMI 2.1 support?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Januar 2025 - 23:29

From what I'm reading, I know I won't be getting 4k120hz. I think I'm fine with that.. But can I at least hit 1440p60hz with VRR and HDR? I just want to be clear what features I will and will not have.

Steam games freeze on Fedora 41

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Januar 2025 - 23:08

Happens after some time, but sooner with more intensive titles. Surprisingly, for certain 2d games (Balatro), this does not happen at all.

I have tried

  • launching steam games through different versions of Proton (Latest, Experimental, Hotfix and GE)

  • enabling "PROTON_USE_D9VK"

  • launching games on ext4 file system instead of ntfs.

I'm not sure what to do at this point.

I Messed Up Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005 Somehow PLS Help!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Januar 2025 - 22:21

Hi, So I have NSFMW 2005 (black edition in case of switching to the regular one helps) installed, (since it's an abandonware i got it from the internet, not gonna bother EA anyway) and i set it up with Ge-Proton 7-16 because I read it's the most recommended, and with the launch options:

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=“dinput8=n,b” %command%

Because I read it's a must to work. And the game just crashes after it shows a black screen for less than a second, I also tried it with Lutris, but nothing, they say it's not recommended. Since I can't upload an image somehow, i will not do that, but every other setting is the default.

My specs: Intel Core i5 6300U, Intel HD 520, 8GB RAM I think it's DDR3, and an SSD, I use CachyOS (Arch based)

Other than that i did everything in this r/steamdeck post, because SteamOS is alo arch based, and I had an "It should work, right?" feeling so, here is the post i followed.

Black Myth Wukong - low FPS with 4090

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. Januar 2025 - 21:53

Hi all

I have a system with a 4090, 9800x3d and 64 GB of 6000 Mhz RAM. I'm using the recommended settings set automatically by the game, but I'm getting very low FPS (40-55). I'm not even playing in 4k, just WQHD. Does anyone else have the game and could share their config/settings? Attached a picture of MangoHUD. Thanks!
