TLoU Part 2 GE-Proton 10-3 doesn't detect NVIDIA GPU
I'm trying to play The Last of Us Part 2 on Nobara Linux running KDE Plasma 6.3.4.
My NVIDIA driver version: 575.51.02
Now I've enabled HDR in the KDE display settings and it's working fine.
I've also setup TLoU Part 2 to use GE-Proton 10-3 and configured the following launcher options:
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 gamemoderun %command%
NOTE: Users running NVIDIA drivers or MESA prior to 25.1 still require the "VK_hdr_layers" package to be installed and setting "ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1" to avoid getting washed out colors when enabling HDR.
The only problem I have when I run the game, a pop-up box will tell me that I don't have a graphics card installed ?
When pressing OK, the game will continue to work, with HDR working properly, however features such as DLSS are not available.
Is there a way to enable these in GE-Proton 10-3?

Steam game recognize controller as keyboard in game
I just installed arch Linux last week, and run in to the controller issue, Try to play guilty gear ( tried street fight 6 not working too) with a controller and keyboard locally, but controller only work as keyboard or won’t work Game only work with controller with steam input turn off, but all button in game are keyboard and not controller. If turn on steam input, game won’t recognize controller but steam and Linux does.

Trying out RamDisk installation: Elden Ring
Booted Fedora i3, loaded Elden Ring into a 70GB RAMDisk, Vulkan via VKD3D, 3600MT/s DDR4, locked 60FPS, frametime flatline. NVMe untouched. No stutter. Pure memory-speed gaming.

UPDATE 3: Reviving my dead uncle's old game.
Bad News. Apparently my dead uncle coded more than just video games. I was working with u/Nrezinorn to try to troublehsoot the segfaults, and on my end the troubleshooting tools were working properly for the most part.
I sent him the outputs I got. Well, screen caps of them since they were in a VM, and it seems to him that the game was coded with malware included. I mean, it doesn't make sense to me, since I was allowed to play this game as a kid, unattended at his machines. But at the same time, there was a ton I didnt know about him.
I'll append the images I sent just before Nrezinorn had alarm bells ringing. I have no clue if the malware was added before or after the upload, and I have no clue what it does. THAT SAID, I want to keep this piece of my family history alive no matter what, seeing as I have a promise to keep.
If anybody has an idea as to where I should look for the malicious code, how I should start my search, or wants to look themselves, let me know.
The Repo was reported as malicious to both Github and Sourceforge, and I am going to also message some security researchers, including my local defcon group to see if they would be interested in analyzing it themselves.
If the repo is taken down, I will re-publish it once the malicious code has been removed.
And for those of you who want to download this to check for malware yourself, it's still on github at time of writing.

Help: Transferring The Last of Us Part II Game Saves from Wine to Proton on Steam Deck
Hi all, I’m struggling to transfer my game save files for The Last of Us Part II from a Wine prefix to a Proton prefix on my Steam Deck. I installed the game via Heroic and completed the game using Wine but the controls stopped working after a few weeks( I think I might have updated my steamOS or/and wine has been deprecated to support proton GE now). Switching to Proton-GE fixes the controller issue, but I lose my saves and game wants me to start from 0. I need help transferring them without starting over.

What non gaming distro do you game on?
We all see a bunch of recommended distro's to use for gaming (Bazzite, Nobara etc). But I was wondering what non recommended distro people game on. Personally I use RHEL 9 for my daily driver at the moment and game just fine on it with NVIDIA driver 575.51.03.

Dota 2
So I'm trying to get Dota 2 to work on linux. I'm on arch and I'm using Wayland. It seems that the Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (sniper) is pretty bad. No matter what launch options I set the game has major framerate issues, with both spikes and just permanent drops. I can run the game in proton, and it seems as though (on the main menu at least) the framerate issues are resolved, however running it on proton seems to upset VAC and won't even let me into bot games.
Has anyone else solved this issue? Is there any way I can get around the VAC verification so that I can just run it in Proton? Thanks.

Is there a way to force steam to use wine instead of proton?
I am trying to launch stronghold 2 (from steam) on my hyprland arch setup. The game does not work with proton (I tried several versions, there's a different error on each version). However when running the game's exe file with wine, everything just works. I would like for the game to be launchable via steam. Is there anyway to force steam to use wine instead of proton?
On version 9.0-4 I get the error E5020: The 'fx_2_0' target profile is only compatible with the 'fx' target type.

Cyberpunk 2077 - FSR 3 & Frame Gen
Yo! I just bought the game yesterday and it works surprisingly well on my RX 470 with FSR 2.1 (40-60 fps). The thing is: I saw someone testing the official FSR 3 with Frame Gen on the same card, most likely on Windows, and it was working but when I try to set my game to FSR 3 with any other option than Auto Mode and Frame Gen OFF, the game freezes and I have to restore the settings file/delete it for the default preset.
Do those (the official implementations of FSR 3 and frame gen) work at all under Linux? Am I missing something crucial? I can play without them no problem but I would like to get some insight anyway. Thanks in advance!

Having severe issues with VRChat
I just switched from the GTX1660 to a RX 7800XT, thinking that I would be able to play finally my VR games, ran Blade and Sorcery just fine, but now, in VR chat I have severe issues, the game runs like at 40 FPS stuttering like hell, I had the game run badly before but no matter what I do, the framerate just dies, and I can't get it to run well, also almost seems like the game have this forced VSync state no matter what I change.
Anyone has run into similar issues and found any fixes?

Skyrim SE, Mod Manger 2 and Crashing After Installing VC_redist.x64.exe
I have installed Mod Manger 2 using this, https://github.com/rockerbacon/modorganizer2-linux-installer but I am running into some issues while trying to install Latest Visual C++ redistributable. It is required for Open Animation Replacer and it cannot find a dll if its not installed it seems. But I setup mod manager and install the VC_redist.x64.exe and after that usually mod manager crashes and starting skyrim does not do anything. Installed it this way following the comment.
Is anyone else having the same/similar issues? Is there a fix or do i just not install VC_redist.x64.exe and ignore mods that require it? I am running cachyos if that matters.

Wine && Proton + Direct Access to Multiple Mice - How do?
Hello! I don't really use reddit much anymore, but figured I would post this here in the hopes of getting more eyes on this niche.
For some background, besides being a Linux gamer person, I'm very much a Lightgun games enthusiast. So much so that I've ended up in the position of making my own DIY system, and one of my personal goals is to make playing a lot of the Windows games or Winbedded-based Arcade dumps games playable on Linux. You can see my progress documented on this front here, but the point is, most games nowadays works surprisingly great on Linux through Wine (now Proton w/ umu et al)... at least, with one Light gun controller at a time.
For multiplayer support, we primarily rely on DemulShooter - this software hacks in force feedback output, as well as hooking in multi-mouse support. Naturally, being made mainly for Windows-based games, it's a Windows-only application, but so long as a prefix has dotnet20/dotnet35 the app itself basically works fine. But for as long as I remember using this (about the past two years and change?), I could never get DS to "see" my lightguns as selectable devices; it would only ever show the "The Wine Project Wine HID Mouse" and the gamepad slot of my lightgun device (which isn't the desirable end goal, and the axis aren't detected properly anyways). There is also TeknoParrot, a less open option using dotnet46 that includes its own direct mouse device hooking setup, but it's the same story there; only shows "Windows Mouse Cursor" or "The Wine Project HID Mouse".
At least as of GE-Proton10-3, I've noticed some changes were included regarding exposing more HID devices including mice, and with it, DemulShooter would finally show some other non-Wine devices (namely my keyboard and... capture card?) - but even still, it doesn't show any of my lightgun pointers.
In the past few days, I've learned a couple of things that have "helped", but there's still some problems:
- To expose the "raw" HID device, I need to have a udev rule in place that applies MODE="0660", TAG+="uaccess" to entries in KERNEL=="hidraw*" with the desired ATTRS{idVendor} to make it accessible(?) to user apps.
- With GE-10+, there is a PROTON_ENABLE_HIDRAW envvar that accepts two settings; 1 to whitelist all devices possible, and an any-char-separated list(?) of 0xVID/0xPID pairs in their native hexadecimal format (and yes, the / slash is important, as I initially thought it would be a comma like what USB ID's typically appear as).
I tested this combination using my normal Logitech G502 mouse (and a udevadm control -R later); with it, DemulShooter crashes due to some overflow error? But TeknoParrot will actually show the Logitech mouse in place of "The Wine Project"'s entry - however, in neither case does this actually allow showing the lightgun device. Since this post is already so long, I'll just link to my findings from here for visual aid.
I feel like there's something very non-obvious I'm missing here, but at this point I'm not sure what. This isn't just in my own interests, for the record - though I make and personally use OpenFIRE, this would also be in the interest of AimTrak, Blamcon, Sinden, and GUN4IR users, and it would be really nice to make it so that Linux+Wine can be used in place of some shitty Windows hard drive preloaded with pirated IPs galore. I've reported this issue to the Wine project to no replies for just under two years now, but I'm not really sure where else to post about this.
I realize I'm just screaming into the void at this point, but I'm honestly just hoping that someone either more knowledgeable about the inner workings of how Wine's hidraw stuff works, a Wine contributor, or Proton contributor could see this and maybe come up with a solution?

Any guide for a KDE window rule to prevent steam steal focus upon launching?
When Steam launches, its windows keep popping up and stealing focus. It actually opens several windows that repeatedly focus on themselves one after another.
I tried creating window rules in the KDE settings, but I haven’t been able to create rules that work reliably – they either stop working after a while or are too aggressive and make Steam unusable. If anyone has successfully used these rules, please share them. I’m currently using the Flatpak version of Steam.

Morrowind not launching under bottles
I set up a bottles in which I linked the Morrowind launcher.exe from Steam. When I start the game via bottles, the launcher window shows normally. But when I press Play then only a small black window pops up for a split second and closes right away.
I can start the game normally from Steam and it works. I can also launch ModOrganizer 2 and it works. Launching Morrowind from the ModOrganizer results in the same issue mentioned above.
How do I remedy this?

Fall Guys Troubleshooting
I decided to reinstall Fall Guys today, and unfortunately it did not work out of the box.
I own the Steam version of the game and while the game does install and launch; I was never able to make it beyond the login screen. I kept getting error code 200_2147483647.
My solution was to install the latest version of Proton-GE, and use that as my compatibility layer. After switching proton versions I can now play the game.
Hopefully an update gets made to vanilla Proton for a more seamless user experience.
Update
I tried turned off Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool for Fall Guys, and the game continues to work. This makes me suspect that the issue is constrained to the initial setup and getting logged into Epic Game Services from the Steam version.

Next Distro Please
Hey All, I've found myself a little frustrated with Bazzite and need to see if something else will meet my needs.
I'm using an HTPC couch gaming setup. The issue with that of course is the HDMI forums VRR nonsense that goes with the open source drivers. So I can cap my frames, but the issue with that is the frame timings just seem ...jittery when I do this. I can get around it by optimizing for a target frame rate which does help tremendously. But as my system ages I'll eventually need to lower that target frame rate or there may be a games in which the visual clarity is more important to me. And I'll want to lower the frames.
In bazzite the deck overlay menu let's me cap the frames, but I can't adjust my refresh. Ideally I'd cap at the refresh rate I set, helping the frame timings be cleaner. It's odd that I can see it honestly, but I can tell when a frame holds or repeats.
Are there any distros with htpc versions that will seperate these settings?
