how do I get Retro Engine Sonic mods working?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 23:28

I need help with Sonic remasters in the form of modded Retro Engine remasters. I have Sonic CD Miracle Edition working from the decompile, but Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute don't work. They show a black screen when the mod-only version is used, and the Windows version of S1F is very unstable, and S2A again shows a black screen and this time even crashes after a few seconds. And that's not to mention Sonic Mania, which has Maniatic Launcher, but that won't load any save files or mods.

Are AMD's Branch Prediction Improvements for Ryzen CPUs on Windows 11 Also Available on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 22:16

I recently came across some news about AMD rolling out performance improvements for Ryzen CPUs in the stable version of Windows 11, particularly focusing on branch prediction enhancements. According to the article, these updates seem to boost CPU performance quite significantly on Windows.

This got me wondering—are these branch prediction improvements also applicable to Linux? If so, how are they implemented or handled in the Linux kernel? Are there any specific updates or patches that have been released or are in the works for Linux users to benefit from these enhancements?

I would appreciate any insights or information on whether Linux users can expect to see similar performance gains and how the Linux kernel manages these kinds of CPU optimizations.

Thanks!

Is there anything like Elgato's wave audio channels?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 21:52

When on windows I really love to use Elgato's wave XLR, it's software + elgato support is great for changing audio on the fly. Is there anything simalar to it on linux?

Processing img n56lohet02md1...

Being able to specifically adjust Game audio, Chat audio and Browser(for video) audio is something I always feel like I'm missing out on when using linux.

even if a solution required setting up keybinds to use with a 3rd party steamdeck software instead of nice "sliders" like in the official steam deck plugin I'd be more than happy.

anyone know of an easy to setup software that fits this bill?

What’s the current situation of Linux gaming on ARM? Say on RISC-5 or Apple silicon running a Linux VM

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 21:36

Saw a video of a risc-5 128 core cpu setup for half the price of a decked out Mac Studio with higher ram and storage than a Mac Studio and the guy had a hard time getting apps to work as well as they do on macOS. The video is like a year old by now I think and it got me wondering if it’s even viable right now

Warning: NoMachine on Arch breaks TF2 (Potentially other games as well)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 21:23

Hello everyone, I just had a very stressful few hours troubleshooting why TF2 is crashing on launch with EndeavourOS. I just wanted to share that the AUR package of NoMachine will break TF2 from launching. Here is the ERROR before the crash:

ERROR: ld.so: object '/run/host/usr/NX/lib/libnxegl.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64): ignored.

Once you uninstall NoMachine (and that is a process) https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NoMachine#Graphical_issues_(especially_with_Wayland)_after_uninstalling_NoMachine_after_uninstalling_NoMachine) TF2 will launch again.

Follow the commands from the comment on the AUR from user "fex0r" https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nomachine

Goodbye NoMachine thanks for all the stress... I hope this helps someone out there.

Poor Elden Ring performance on Pop Os 22.04

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 21:05

Hi there, I'm currently experiencing a lot of underperfoming issues while playing Elden Ring v1.12.0.

To start, here are my specs and system information:

Ryzen 5 2600 - 16GiB RAM - RTX 3070Ti 555.58.02

I'm using NVIDIA propietary drivers. The version is 555.58.02, installed with Pop Os NVIDIA LTS iso.

I've tried running the game from Heroic Launcher using both Wine (Wine-GE-8-26) and Proton (Proton-GE-9-11). I've also tried running with X11 and Wayland.

The game stutters a lot and I get barely 40fps under 1080p and High settings, which is, at least, strange compared to when I used to play in Windows where I could play at 1440p (DSR) on High settings and get 60fps stable or 1080p native with Ultra settings.

When using Mangohud, both CPU and GPU usage don't get over 50%, and using nvtop, GPU VRAM is not over 60% usage. Also, both CPU and GPU temps are normal, not getting over 60°.

I'd like to give you more information about performance for other demanding game but this is the only one I happen to have right now.

Could this be due to a limitation of Proton or Wine over hardware usage? Should I add any flag or configuration to Heroic? Is this a Distro Problem?

What more information could I log or get to check what the problem could be?

Massive performance issues on Mechabellum with Proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 20:45

So i have been playing Mechabellum, and it should not be a very demanding game, but i have been getting abysmal performance. FPS drops to <10. I am on Fedora KDE with RPM steam and tried multiple Proton versions.

Is anyone here playing it, and have you experienced any issues? Any ideas how to fix it?

Age of Mythology Retold on Ubuntu Linux error Unknown GPU Vendor

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 18:13

Hello, I recently pre-ordered Age of Mythology Retold, but I'm unable to play it. Every time I open the game, a message pops up saying:

'Unknown GPU Vendor The game is attempting to launch on an unknown GPU vendor, this game has not been tested on this GPU and may not be playable

VendorID: 0
DeviceID: 0'

https://preview.redd.it/87wflcjpx0md1.png?width=665&format=png&auto=webp&s=8f24d7fba18b7ec835c757e9759a0f04e5af7eb3

If I proceed anyway, it opens to a black screen and simply freezes my computer, forcing me to shut it down. I've tried all the 'Protons' available on Steam, but nothing changes. Is there any way to fix this?

Specs:
Linux Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
RAM: 32GB
Kernel: 6.10.7
Desktop: GNOME 42.9
CPU: 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1235U × 12
GPU: Mesa Intel® Graphics (ADL GT2)

Can Proton work for games that are not on Steam?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 17:47

I have this laptop in which I have installed Linux recently (specifically Arch with KDE).

I was thinking about playing some low-end games which I have played in windows in this exact same laptop before like Roblox which doesn't have a Steam version therefore making it impossible to play through steam.

Thus, I could install Wine I guess. But I wanted to ask if you could add the executable to steam like in the windows version and if that will make it playable trough Proton. If that is not the case however, what would you say is the best fork of Wine (or if I should use base Wine) to make the set up and playing experience as smooth and easy as possible.

Thanks in advance

Help please!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 31. August 2024 - 17:27

I’m trying to get a gaming laptop I’ve seen one I love but I’m not 100% if it’s best choice. My budget is £1100. I’m not a hardcore gamer but I do like to play sims, dream light valley, and want to get into some other games too and i just want a laptop that won’t scream at me haha. Would this be sufficient? Especially with tabs and things running too?
