I really wish r/Amd would release an official tool for Linux

Pascal cards aren’t worth it sadly
I’ve been on Windows 10 for so long with my GTX 1070 Ti build and finally kicked the bucket and tried Linux.
For the most part, things were good. Very fast desktop performance, better at productivity, it’s like I was using my 2017 rig back in 2017.
But when it came to gaming, even with the latest, closed source nvidia drivers, anything that uses DirectX 12 actually runs WORSE than Windows.
At first I figured I could cope with it, because 1070 Ti is still a beast at 1080p gaming these days and losing 20-30 fps wouldn’t matter much but boy I was wrong.
On games like RDR2, I legit get half the FPS on Windows 10, that’s kind of unacceptable.
Even on older games like Warframe, if I was getting 180fps at 1440p on High settings, now I need to use FSR 2 just to keep up with my windows performance. Same applies for games like Marvel Rivals.
I’m probably gonna get a RTX 2070/2080.

Finally learned how to use Linux! (I use Arch, btw)
after a few attempts that went wrong with distros like Mint, Pop_OS, Nobara, and Arch for a multitude of reasons (lack of/funky VRR support with some DEs like GNOME or Cinnamon, too many apps I don't need), I managed to get a fully functional Arch installation oriented towards my gaming needs and any of the general tasks I run, it's not perfect but I can live with the flaws and I've enjoyed the DIY nature of Arch, some of the issues I've run into for example would be Gamescope exhibiting inconsistent frametimes, and Ghost of Tsushima working but without the Legends mode portion, I have heard someone say that there were reports of people getting it up and running but I haven't which kinda bums me out, and the loss of games like Fortnite, Black Ops 6 and GTAO sucks too but I'm about to dualboot soon so it shouldn't be an issue for the few odd cases, Linux has been a LOT more stable than Windows on my 7800 XT which is an instant plus and a good reason to keep using it, I also underestimated the Arch Wiki a LOT because once I started to actually read and make an effort to understand what I'm reading, it was insanely helpful.

No fan readings on RX 9070 XT
Hey,
I recently got an RX 9070 XT and while it works fine for graphics and compute, I can't get any fan speed / PWM info on Linux (Garuda, Arch-based, KDE).
I find that my GPU fans are spinning quite fast even though they don’t really need to (the temperature is only around 38°C), which led me to try monitoring the fan speeds and temperatures but it turns out I don’t have access to either the controller or the actual fan speed (0 RPM).
Here’s what I’ve got:
- amdgpu module is loaded.
- sensors shows the card, but most values are just N/A:amdgpu-pci-0300 Adapter: PCI adapter fan1: N/A edge: N/A
- /sys/class/drm/card1/device/hwmon/hwmon4/ :
- fan1_input, pwm1 → empty
- pwm1_enable → doesn’t exist
CoreCtrl sees the card, but doesn’t show any fan speed control either.
From dmesg, it looks like firmware is loading fine:
[drm] Loading DMUB firmware via PSP: version=0x05002000Also worth noting:
lspci shows both iGPU and dGPU:
Running kernel: 6.12.29-1-lts, I'm on KDE Wayland, Garuda Linux (Arch-based)
Has anyone with an RX 9070 XT or similar card gotten hwmon/fan/temps working under Linux?Do I need to wait for a newer kernel or special patch? Maybe try some setting or something?
Would love to hear from anyone with a similar setup who got it working 🙏
Thanks!

Intermittent, long black screen, playing Doom 2016 or Doom Eternal
brand new to Bazzite sorry if i'm stupid
Just set up a pc with an amd graphics card and fresh Bazzite installation as a graduation gift to myself. I'm very familiar with the Steam Deck and it's software as I used it through university, so I thought Bazzite would be a nice transition.
Wanted to play through Doom 2016 and Eternal before the Dark Ages, but I keep running into an issue with both where I just get a Black screen interrupting everything. With 2016 I can't even load into a game, but with Eternal it happens every 7-10 seconds and lasts about the same amount of time. Anyone have a similar issue? or know a fix?
If I need to include any info like specs or logs pls lmk like I said im new

[Tool][Open Source][SteamDeck] NoSteam2Steam — Auto-Detect and Manage Non-Steam Games in Steam with Automatic Save Backup/Restore
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share a tool I’ve been working on for several months called NoSteam2Steam. I created it because I couldn’t find any existing solution that met some specific needs I had for managing non-Steam games on the Steam Deck.
While I really liked how Heroic Games Launcher adds games to Steam, I didn’t like that it didn’t run them with the system’s native compatibility tools — among other things, it took noticeably longer to launch and I suspected it could have worse overall performance (even if it wasn’t always obvious). Also, save files for non-Steam games were easily lost, making it hard to continue PC saves.
NoSteam2Steam automatically detects all games in a designated folder without any user input, adding them to Steam complete with configuration, images, and icons ready to go. It also syncs and automatically backs up save files, with an option to restore lost saves.
One useful feature is that it can recover lost saves when a game has been added to Steam multiple times, which can sometimes cause previous save backups to be lost.
Right now it’s focused and tested on the Steam Deck, but with small adjustments it could potentially work on other Linux distributions in the future.
I’m sharing this here so others with similar needs can try it out and provide feedback.
I’m happy to answer questions, hear suggestions, or collaborate with anyone interested in improving it.
Here’s the repo:

Thanks for reading, and I hope you find it useful!

Doom The Dark Ages hangs after 'Press space bar to continue' screen
The game starts, the screen appears with a request to press the spacebar and after pressing the spacebar and generally any button, the game just hangs, the screen freezes and all. Please tell me who faced this, what to do.
My system:

Adaptive Sync with NVIDIA and Wayland
Hi folks,
my research is a little bit confusing, so I’m asking you 😅 I’m trying to run an RTX 4090 with CachyOS on a Samsung Frame, which has Gaming Mode and Adaptive Sync / 120 Hz via HDMI. Is this a combination that is supposed to work? Or is there some kind of tweaking that I missed?
Every time I switch to 120 Hz, I get artifacts and eventually a black screen. I can only run the following modes: - 60 Hz with Adaptive Sync at 4K - 120 Hz with Adaptive Sync at 1080p
I tried both Gnome and KDE.
Both are kind of not the point why I’m having this hardware.
The same setup works on Windows, so it’s not a cable issue. DisplayPort adapter didn’t work, either.

linux-tkg in Docker: Automated Kernel Build & Install with bleeding-edge GCC
Linux Mint 22.1 - X11 gaming performance better than Wayland?
So I had some trouble running multiple monitors with different Hz and read online that this issue doesn't exist in Wayland, which seems to be true.
For some reason I cannot even run more than 165Hz on X11 without it feeling extremely choppy (more like 30Hz), while even 200Hz feels buttersmooth on Wayland.
Anyway, then I did some benchmarking.
I benchmarked CS2 and Dota 2.
Counter Strike 2 (numbers are average FPS):
DisplayServer SMAAx4 CMAA2 No AA Wayland 367 419 422 X11 378 432 438Dota 2 (benchmarked via timedemo, so FPS are lower than usual):
DisplayServer Avg. FPS frametime_P5 frametime_P50 frametime_P95 Wayland 90.1 9.1 10.9 13.8 X11 92 8.9 10.7 13.4Now, I didn't yet benchmark other games that are more GPU heavy, but looking at this, I am not sure if I even should.
Seems like X11 just performs better?
Is this generally something that is known?
Is this just because the Wayland support for Linux Mint is still experimental?
I am on Linux Mint 22.1
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5800X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
using latest MESA driver as far as I know

Linux Mint: playing some games in full screen freezes the entire system after a while
when playing games with full screen on steam (usually ones that demand more processing power) my entire system will sometimes freeze and stop responding to any input whatsoever. this happens at seemingly random intervals
ive tried to switch my NVIDIA drivers to older versions but the issue still persists, and looking through other issues online hasnt really helped
im happy to provide more info if needed

Where can i find drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 4600? (i5-4590)
Marvel Rivals Launcher won't start. Wine says a debugger has been found running in my system.
I have recently installed Nobara linux and I have gotten warframe (which is Windows only) to run, but when I run Marvel Rivals via Steam nothing happens. If I go into the files and execute the .exe directly wine says this:
I ran ps aux | grep -E 'gdb|strace|valgrind' which I got from chatgpt and found no debuggers running:
··• ps aux | grep -E 'gdb|strace|valgrind' alexand+ 20920 0.0 0.0 231380 14208 pts/2 S+ 12:41 0:00 grep --color=auto -E gdb|strace|valgrindAnyone has an idea as to what is happening?
