How to see live streaming from steam with steam flatpak

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 06:42

Hi, I always have had the same problem which I believe is common to everyone.

Steam flatpak does not show live streaming just a blank screen with loading logo spinning all the time.

I can’t recall but I believe I had same issue with apt steam but I changed to flatpak due to updated mesa drivers.

Overwatch 2 low FPS after update

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 05:12

Hi, I'm on EndeavourOS and ran an update a few days ago after not for a while, and now whenever I play Overwatch it hovers around 75-80 fps. Normally I was getting around 250-300 before. I've tried Proton GE 9.13 and also Proton experimental today, and both give a similar result with slightly lower in experimental. I have to hud on to show shader compilation and it stops after around a minute in the practice range but fps doesn't improve much.

EDIT: Downgraded to 9.12 worked.

Distro suggestions?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 05:06

This last Wednesday I was playing Deliver us Mars like a charm in CachyOS. Been working flawlessly for months. On Thursday I updated, saw a minor kernel update + cachyos-nvidia package. The game stopped booting. I said well let's restore a btrfs backup. That led to the distro never booting again. I probably fucked it up, the tool seemed intuitive but I probably don't understand it enough. The fallback kernel didn't work either. Now I'm taking the opportunity to restructure my drives. And said well... Let's try EndeavourOS, but I'm getting extremely glitchy graphics when the monitors should turn off after inactivity. So I'm considering switching to something else. I like Arch and rolling edge but also like the idea of a "stable" distro, and I'm leaning towards it. Idk if it's the time yet, being a Nvidia user. I think Fedora it's somewhat in that middle, somewhat stable but updated. But I saw that Fedora has more problems related to dependencies for some applications like DaVinci resolve.

I have a 4070 Super + Ryzen 5 5600 + multi-monitors so I need Wayland and 550+ drivers.

What are your suggestions? Thanks!

Crash unless I have system monitor open?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 05:05

I've had Linux for a few weeks and in some random games when I launch they will just freeze my whole PC.

I have a rx6600 and pop os

And I found that having system monitor open in the background prevents it and I can play the games fine.

What is the reason for this crash and why is it like this?

It is only In a few games randomly

Wine/Proton compatible Warzone alternatives 2024

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 03:53

For a year or two, I kept reading reddit posts about how easy it was to get games running on Linux with Wine/Proton and about a month ago I bit the bullet and switched my hackintosh install to EndeavourOS (F You Microsoft!!!). After that, I spent a couple weeks trying to get Proton to work in my free-time and ultimately did so with Heroic game launcher where I have installed 9 + games 🥳🥳. I do however, still have my Windows drive so that I can play Warzone 😶😶. I've read that Blizzard/Activisions anti-cheat does not play well with Linux. Can anybody recommend me some games that do? I've read that Battlefield works and plan to purchase 2042. Looking for games like call of duty and/or battlefield. Not big on sci-fi. What games am I missing out on / what would you recommend? I'd love to wipe my windows drive and ditch Microsoft completely

How to Use Simple Mod Framework on Linux Debian Based(cracked Steam editiions)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 03:37

Make sure you have Lutris, Winetricks, and a working wine prefix that has Hitman installed into it.

Make sure you have SMF downloaded from cs(.)rin(.)ru (cracked) and extracted into its folder called SImple Mod Framework within the base game.

Now you are going to use Lutris to load the 'Mod Manager.exe' using Wine NOT PROTON. make sure you are using wine-ge-8-26-x86_64 as the default and make sure Hitman works perfectly (will drop Giude later on how to get it to work.

Within Lutris you will add a game as an executable point lutris towards the mod manager executable usually located in /home/usrname/.wine/drive_c/Games/Hitman/Simple Mod Framework/Mod Manager and then run it you should be able to run it but patching the game will drop you various errors and privilege errors at least for me and just was a mess so this is an alternative way to do it.

Use SMF as you would add any mods as you normally would and enable them but don't press 'deploy' this will give you errors at least for me it did. instead, open the terminal and locate the deploy.exe usually in /home/usrname/.wine/drive_c/Games/Hitman/Simple Mod Framework/ now left click on a blank space and press open terminal here: now I don't know how right this is but it worked type sudo wine Deploy.exe.

Now it will start patching your Hitman game and there should be no errors. Hope this helped

Would love to answer any question.

Please no PMS and once again I understand it may have worked for you to do it a different way but for me I just gave up and did it this way..

Cheers

Recommendations for Hardware and Linux Distribution on Gaming PC Set-up around $1000

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 03:01

Hello, everyone,

I am posting here to ask for everyone's opinion on what would be the best hardware and Linux distribution for PC gaming, and what sources I can go to conduct further research on the best components. I played a lot of videogames on my Alienware gaming laptop that I got in 2016, which has 2 TB of storage, 16 GB of ram, and a Intel(R) HD Graphics 630 card. My laptop is starting to run very slow, likely due to its age and the dozens of other programs I have installed on it for school (I am a computer engineering student)

As a reference, my goal is to be able to construct a PC that can be able to play games like modded Skyrim and Fallout 4, as well as playing more graphics-heavy games like Black Myth Wukong. I would also like to dual use this set-up for coding, database, and software development applications for my own personal projects. I want to stay around a budget of $1000.

I already have a good monitor, keyboard and mouse that I used for my Alienware laptop for gaming. For hardware, I am looking for good RAM, graphics card, cooling fans, motherboard, PC case, CPU, memory cards, storage, and power supply that would suit my needs.

For Linux distro, I heard that Ubuntu is good but Garuda and Kubuntu are the best ones overall for gaming ( https://www.howtogeek.com/best-linux-distros-for-gaming/ ). I am interested in hearing what others think of each distribution and which one they would recommend.

Thanks a lot for your guys' feedback.

[Fallout 4] F4SE just not loading LooksMenu mod.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 03:01

Hello,

Via vortex I have enabled LooksMenu v1.6.20. I have downgraded Fallout 4 to v1.10.163 (by downloading the depots), and I am using Fallout 4 Script Extender v0.6.23.

Since I am on Linux, I used Lutris to create a game for f4se_loader.exe and pointed to Steam's Fallout 4 wine prefix. I am using Proton GE 9-11.

After starting a new game the character customization screen is still vanilla.

I have not experimented with any other F4SE plugins, I will do that now and update this post if need be.

Anyone else getting low FPS on native DOTA 2 Vulkan?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 01:10

I used to play DOTA a few months ago, installed it again and I barely get 30 FPS. Other games or anything else runs perfectly fine on my system. Everything else on my system is correctly configured.

I saw someone saying that there was a Valve specific issue with the latest dota build since they removed OpenGL support and Vulkan support on it was a bit weird.

Stuttering in CPU-bound games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 07. September 2024 - 00:49

Hello users. I recently posted about some stuttering/framepacing issues. After more investigation, it seems to be a CPU issue. I have made sure to set the frequency governor to "performance" but it still underperforms compared to Windows.

As a simple test, I ran a Minecraft world with a few thousand entities. Here is a frametime comparison between Windows and Linux. Linux is clearly doing worse here, but my understanding is that it should be equivalent or better than Windows.

The only "fix" I've found is to raise graphical settings to force 100% GPU usage.

I have been wanting to switch to Linux for a while but this is a huge barrier for me. Any help is appreciated.

My system specs:

  • openSUSE Tumbleweed 20240905
  • KDE Plasma 6.1.4 Wayland
  • Intel i7-14700f
  • Nvidia RTX 4070 SUPER
  • 32GB RAM
