Distro Hope .... Arch btw or Fed ofc ???

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 09:05

Hello

I want to know if there is a big performance gap between fedora and arch. I've been using arch for 4 years but I have a little desire to change.

I've seen on several benchmarks that under arch there is often more FPS than under fedora.

What do you think?

Do you have any benchemark between these two distros like this Ubuntu 24.04 LTS & Fedora 40 Continue To Trail Intel's Linux Performance Optimizations - Phoronix?

Thanks

Any good Steam Proton/Linux games that free or not expensive

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 08:13

I'm playing so many great games! I've got Spectre Divide (on my second disk with Windows 11), Civilization 6, Hell Let Loose, and Deadlock (I've found a few bugs while using Proton, but it's still great). And I'm really enjoying Darkest Hour (Hearts of Iron), Hunt Showdown, Rollercoaster Tycoon 4 and The Sims 4 (I do like The Sims 3 with all the DLCs, though). Do you know of any similar games or recommendations? Which game do you think is better to download? I'd love to have more games in my library that run on Steam with Proton nicely and very well (I have Linux Mint XFCE). I love online competitive/eSport games, even for potato PC, because my friends have not very good PC while using Linux

Has anyone gotten NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered to work on Mint?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 06:43

I recently switched to Mint from Windows and I have not been able to get the game running. I have tried multiple versions of Proton including GE. Has anyone been able to get it running? On a few versions of Proton, I have gotten to the EA launcher, but it soon after crashes. If the original version works better, does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can get it today since it has been taken down? Thank you!

Failing to have my Ubuntu 24 on XPS 9500 as my gaming system

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 06:19

Today I formatted my laptop XPS 9500 (i7 + 32GB RAM + nvidia GTX 1050 Ti) and put Ubuntu 24 on it. I tried to run some games on Steam using Proton 9. All games failed. Cyberpunk freezes on black screen at launch, Elden Ring open in a white screen and closes instantly.

I ran these in a i7 + 32GB RAM + nvidia RTX 2060 desktop with some issues, Elden Ring do not see my Xbox Series controller and sometimes freezes completely my system on start screen.

I expected to have, at least, similar experience on my laptop XPS, but looks like Ubuntu is unable to manage system with integrated + discrete GPU.

I tried to run glxinfo | grep "direct rendering" and it returns direct rendering: Yes

vblank_mode=0 glxgears returns 6k+ frames per second

On Software & Updates tool, Additional Drivers tab, I tried to run it using nvidia-driver-550 and nvidia-driver-550-open.

What am I missing?

Remnant 2 Modding Help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 04:45

I'm having trouble getting mods to working with Remnant 2. These are my specs.

Zorin 17.1 Core
kernel 6.8
Steam is installed through its native version (non flatpak)
the game and Steam are on two separate drives if that matters
32 GB DDR5 RAM
intel i5 13600K
Geforce RTX 2070 Super
Driver 555.58.02

Everything I've tried so far. I have the launch commands to load the mod dlls in the game's Steam properties page.

Used both versions (windows and "steam deck") of the Allow Assets Mod, both will load the game but the mods do not work
I've tried to use this file to replace the UE4SS and dwmapi dlls as per the Remnant Modding Discord and those crash the game on startup
I've tried using both of the Allow Assets mod versions (with and without the replacement dlls from the link) at the same time and using the correct launch commands which crashes the game as well.

I'm trying to use the Trait Cap, Traits Lvl20 and the fixes and improvements mods.

I was only able to run it on the 'Sober' app and I was lucky to have found it. For those who have children and prefer a more controlled ecosystem, I think this is a very important alternative for Linux.

The app is packaged in Flatpak and is already available on the official channel: org.vinegarhq.Sober

For those who are noobs, the installation is like this via the terminal: flatpak install org.vinegarhq.Sober

Observation: It's worth remembering that the developers claim to be closed source, justifying it by reducing the chances of Roblox developers banning the method, as it would thus "make it difficult" for hacks. Personally, I recommend installation only on a disposable gaming user with zero access to important data.

should i be concerned about titanfall 2, given the battlefield situation?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 01:09

titanfall 2 is made by respawn, the same studio behind apex legends, and since apex legends still runs on linux, i should not be worried about ea forcing their new anticheat on both games. right???

Enabling DX12 on Black Myth Wukong Help

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 00:55

Hi, I've been playing Black Myth Wukong on my Linux machine through Steam, here are my specs:

https://preview.redd.it/abg7nnsq3vnd1.png?width=402&format=png&auto=webp&s=c02cebeafc6f0c4b2087669e2566086a24b5e4ce

So, I have good enough GPU, CPU, and RAM, to play the game at high graphics settings for my 1080p monitor. The thing is, I can only play when I enable dx11 through the game's launch options.

The game runs perfectly fine at stable 60 fps with the highest graphics settings, but there are some strange graphical artifacts, such as super-pixelized trees and some particle effects which look off. No matter how I change the graphics settings, these strange glitches persist. If I were to guess, it looks like the 'long draw distance version' of certain assets is being loaded instead of the close-up version.

I suspect the main reason for the glitches is using dx11, when the game recommends dx12. When I enable dx12 through the launch options, the game crashes at the load screen after clicking continue game or trying to do a benchmark test.

I've read elsewhere that dx12 is supported through the latest versions of Proton, which is a part of Steam Linux version. I've also been able to play other games with dx12, such as Baldur's Gate 3 with no issues. So the fact that dx12 is crashing Wukong specifically is a little strange.

If anyone knows how to enable dx12 with this game, or some way to fix the graphical issues on dx11, that would be a big help. Thanks!

I've also heard about using PROTON_LOG=1 to figure out the issue, I'll go ahead and try that.

Stuttering audio is driving me insane

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 10. September 2024 - 00:35

So I installed Linux Mint 22 with the Xfce Desktop Environment, literally today. And I'm already experiencing problems with it. At random points, whenever I have any form of audio playing, it will stutter. Similarly to when the audio freaks out if you were to lag a game hard enough. I don't know what's causing this and any form of help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Games on external partition not launching

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. September 2024 - 23:24

How to launch games on external partition?

Got my OS on a smaller partition, installing games on a larger partition on the same SSD. The games only launches when it's on the same partition as the OS. This happens with any game installed on external partition. This is obviously very annoying.

How to solve this?

My computer keeps freezing

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. September 2024 - 19:43

I'm on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. This happens randomly whenever I alt tab or use the "applications" button. This happens more frequently when I have discord open along with steam, so it could be that these programs are doing something. What happens is that all of my open programs freeze and it displays the "X is not responding" popup, few seconds later it is followed by a whole pc freeze, I can't move my mouse, I can't do anything, this forces me to turn of my pc forcefully. This is very very annoying as it can happen in succession after restarting my pc. This has led me to lose progress and files. I'm considering switching to windows completely because I didn't have any issues. Is something broken ?

How do you obtain launch options for steam games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 09. September 2024 - 19:25

So, a lot of games get fixed on linux with launch options, so I tried to fix a game myself, but I couldn't find any list of available launch options anywhere, even on the internet, but some people somehow get them. How do I get them too?
