What happens if I don't update my nvidia drivers.
I haven't update my drivers since 4 months and my system is still working just fine, why would I risk newer versions.

Modding on Garuda Linux newbie help…
Not sure if I used the appropriate flair but after watching many videos and reading a lot of Reddit and forums I am thoroughly confused about the best way to go about getting and using ModOrg2.
I have actually tried a couple of times already but the first route I used NaK from GitHub and followed directions from SulferNitride on YT but the nxm wouldn’t launch (I think I messed something up cause it worked at first but then quit working) and not even 24hrs later the GitHub page and download completely changed with no new video to accompany the changes and I got frustrated with it after trying. After days of ironing out issues on my new Garuda setup as a Linux noob I may have just been out of motivation.
So all the routes I’ve heard about are proton (don’t know how to use but I have ptotontricks installed), wine (don’t know how to use but I have it and winetricks installed), and a couple of GitHub installers (one of which has been abandoned). I am sure there are probably a ton of ways. Many of the videos are outdated.
Has anyone done this recently that can tell me: What is the best most straight forward way to install MO2 on Garuda so the nxm works?
I am willing to learn new things on this side quest. (Any great videos on using modorg2 on Linux would also be appreciated! Since I need to learn that too once I get a working version on my PC)
(I do not want to use Vortex)
Thank you!

Wireless VR has improved by leaps and bounds on Linux
The new Nvidia 580 drivers mentioned some fixes for VR which made me curious to try VR in Linux again and I gotta say, I am completely shocked by how good it is now. The ALVR + SteamVR experience is absolutely flawless. It meets and I dare say even beats Airlink and Virtual Desktop on Windows in terms of visual quality, jittering, and latency.
Virtual Desktop had good quality, but had worse latency and random microjitters every 5 minutes or so. Airlink felt smooth, but the quality would dip in and out as it adjusted bitrate. The macroblocking in dark areas was very visible. ALVR is the best of both worlds. I have genuinely never had a wireless VR streaming experience this smooth in my life.
The ALVR setup process has also gotten a lot better. No more ADB sideloading onto my Quest 2, the Chromium-based interface isn't buggy anymore, and the launcher downloads and sets up the latest version for you. It was such a pain in the ass before.
I tested Half-Life Alyx and Star Wars Squadrons and the experience completely turned my view of Linux VR gaming around. It is completely viable now. The only issue I had with it was SteamVR not being able to display my remote desktop properly and only showing a black screen (probably a SteamVR Wayland issue). I also didn't try my Oculus Store exclusives which I am assuming just won't work. It's a shame because I really do want to replay Lone Echo 1 and 2.

Ubuntu being kicked. kicked from server tfge0027 The Finals
So i have never had this issue before but today i got this and was kicked multiple times from my game fornot having the right operation system configuration. Something to that extendt. Does anybody know why this happened? Im using proton hotfix steam. Is there any configuration that is not set right or something?, i dont really have much more info, but will gladely give. i will now try experimental instead.
EDIT: it seems i was not banned just kicked midgame. Also it seems i am not able to play as i just get kicked going back into the game and a code of tfav5013. i currently can not play the game and am just kicked.
EDIT: Experimental did not fix it. And come to think of it it did happen after an update so might be a game issue or some sort of non functioning feature in proton with this new update.

(Lutris, Mint) I'm having issues trying to get the EA app to launch consistently. It works fine about 80% of the time, but once a week or so it just refuses to launch.
Discord Overlay/Notifications?
Used Windows for a few weeks for something for work, forgot how much I enjoyed having Discord overlay in Windows and being able to read messages from people on there w/o having to alt-tab out of the game to see them. Does something like this exist in Linux? I tried overlayed but it just kinda doesn't do anything?

Potentially silly question - how am I supposed to update DuckStation on Linux?
I'm on a fresh install of Fedora (KDE) and I downloaded DuckStation via its flathub listing on Discover. I know the creator of the emulator made comments about not wanting to support Linux even though newer builds are available.
When I launch DuckStation I'm immediately greeted with an update screen. When I go to update it, I get sent to the project's GitHub releases page. If I download the flatpak and open it up, I'm just brought back to DuckStation in Discover where I can only uninstall the app.

I have updated my MangoHud config because it was too distracting
No more background, larger text and changed colors. You can get the config file on my github: https://github.com/ihpsm/junkyard/blob/main/MangoHud.conf
Previous version was renamed to MangoHud.conf_legacy, it's still available on the same github repository. You can see the screenshots of previous version here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1ldz4y9/want_to_share_my_mangohud_config_because_i_think/

Linux Gaming Oriented Distro CachyOS vs EndeavourOS on Nvidia GPU
FSR 4 | 7900 XTX | Cyberpunk 207 | 1440p
Hi,
As the owner of a 7900 XTX and someone who likes to tinker with my computer, I couldn’t go on without trying to use FSR4 with my RDNA3 card. Below, I’m sharing my testing, these numbers are only from the Cyberpunk benchmark.
Hardware:
- Intel 13600K
- 32Gb DDR5 6000Mhz CL30
- AMD 7900 XTX
- Monitor Resolution 1440p
Software:
- Windows 11 Pro with Adrenalin 25.6.1
- Nobara with Mesa 25.3.00 and Proton-EM-10.0-2C
- Cyperpunk 2077 V2.3 with RT Ultra Preset and Ultra Preset (no RT)
Notes:
- Nat.W = Native Windows
- Nat.L = Native Linux
- FSR3W = FSR 3 on Windows
- FSR3L = FSR 3 on Linux
- FSR4L = FSR 4 on Linux
Opinions:
- There is a performance impact just from going from Windows to Linux, which I believe is due to RT, as is well known from other tests.
- FSR4 Performance has very decent image quality, perfectly playable, and in my opinion better than FSR3 Quality. I usually play this game in native resolution because I hate shimmering, but FSR4 handles shimmering very well (especially when the image is static, whereas FSR3 looks bad even with static images).
- FSR4 Ultra Performance is not worth it, as the image quality is very poor.
- The impact of going from FSR3 to FSR4 on Linux is much lower than I expected (arround 10%), I’m very impressed with the work put into this endeavour (huge thanks to everyone involved!).
- In my opinion, if I wanted to play CP with RT Ultra, I would definitely go with Linux and FSR4 Performance.
Opinions:
- Not really an opinion, but a fact, the gap between Windows and Linux performance disappears without RT, with Linux actually performing better. However, my Windows installation is far from “fresh”, unlike Nobara, so keep that in mind.
- For some reason, with FSR Native the minimum FPS are much worse in Linux compared to other presets, and I have no idea why.
- FSR4 Quality is on par with Native, and sometimes even looks “cleaner” than Native.
- The performance impact from FSR3 to FSR4 is very small, around 14%. For a single-player game, this is a non-issue when we’re already well above 100 FPS.
- If I had to choose, I would go with Linux and FSR4 Quality, capping the FPS to 80 or 90 to give the GPU a break.
Bonus:
Also make a quick test with Witcher 3 Next Gen and Optiscaller:
RT Ultra preset, also at 1440p, with the upscale preset set to Performance. The FPS values are from a single spot, I didn’t have time to do proper testing, but it’s enough to get an idea of what to expect.
- FSR3: ~86fps
- XESS: ~84fps
- FSR: ~78fps
Image:
- Left: FSR 3
- Middle: XeSS
- Right: FSR 4
You can see below that FSR4 retains more detail in the leaf.
Also, in the image below, FSR4 is able to retain the thin leaf branch and overall detail.
I'm currently playing The Witcher 3 for the second time, and I will definitely move my saves to Linux to play using FSR4.
Let’s hope AMD will bring this officially, maybe when they have other “selling features” for RDNA4 besides better upscaling, they will release it for RDNA3. It’s more than proven that it’s perfectly viable to use, achieving better performance than Native even at lower resolutions than 4K (like my example at 1440p) while delivering great visuals.
Also, thanks to the YouTuber, and my Portuguese compatriot, Ancient Gameplays for the video setting everything up, it definitely saved me some time.
Edit: Tables as images

Minecraft FPS Issues on Linux
Hello everyone,
I’m running CachyOS with KDE Plasma (Wayland) on a Ryzen 5700X3D and Radeon 7800XT.
Most games on Proton run fine, sometimes even better than on Windows. But Minecraft, the game that should benefit the most, runs poorly.
With Sodium, it goes from 30 fps to 400 fps on Linux, but on Windows I get around 900 fps with Sodium and 200 fps without. Using VulkanMod, which switches to Vulkan, I see ~1500 fps on Linux versus ~1000 fps on Windows.
400 fps isn’t bad, but with shaders it’s still worse than Windows. Is poor OpenGL performance normal on Linux, or did I mess up the drivers? I’ve tried both Mesa and Mesa-git.

How do you properly configure ray tracing on linux with nvidia?
I dont play many games that have ray tracing, and most games work OOTB in my experience, but my performance tanks whenever I try to enable ray tracing in Control. Like from 60+ fps to a solid 2 fps.
I've already beat Control, so its not a big deal if it just straight-up doesnt work. I just switch to linux as my primary OS a little over a month ago, and I'm just taking steps to distance myself further from windows. It's not a major issue if it doesnt work, i've already beat Control lol; I'm just asking in case another game releases some time down the line and I want to enable it.
My current configuration is:
- Fedora 42 Workstation (Wayland)
- GE-Proton-10.11
- Nvidia RTX 3070ti
