Extend partition

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 14:31

Hi folks,

I gave Linux a shot and assigned 250GB of unallocated space during installation. I haven't booted windows in more than a month. Now I'm running out of space for updates. Stupid me thought it would be easy to open disk management, free up another 100GB of unallocated space and assign it to Linux.

Looks like I was wrong or simply am too stupid to pull it off. Using gparted I saw the unallocated space in /dev/sdc, my main Data partition is /dev/sda3. However I'm not able to assign to/extend my data partition. It's on the same drive.

Any suggestions how to do it is highly appreciated.

Help getting a mod to work via proton

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 13:42

HI all. Newer to linux proper. My experiences with the Steam Deck inspired me to switch over on my main system. I am currently having a rough time trying to use a mod for Prey (2017) known as the Prey Interface Customizer. I use it whenever I play on Windows as it holds a lot of great tweaks for a game I love. The farthest I have gotten is getting the program to launch via Wine. However, any changes made with the GUI either do not save, or are not appearing in-game. I have tried manually moving files from my modded installation, which does not work either. I have tried messing with protontricks but I have not managed to get the program to launch with it, despite having the correct dependencies. Any advice would be appreciated.

Multiplayer issue specifically on Baldurs Gate 3

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 13:34

Hi all, I'm having issues with Baldurs Gate 3 multiplayer and getting a "Cannot connect to online community" Error despite my online functionality on steam and even other games being fine.

I'm on Nobara linux, my hardware is an rtx 4090 and 7950x, I have the latest drivers through Nobara's driver installation tool, I am running the game using proton 7-55 (anything past 7-55 crashes, on pretty much every game for me) my game drive is btrfs, and I have opened up ports mentioned in the pastebin (even turned off the firewall as a whole just to troubleshoot), and finally i'm running with the vulkan and skip launcher flags, any other ideas you all can think of? Thanks!

The Crew 2 / Motorfest

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 13:06

Now that The Crew 2 and Motorfest are being patched to be allowed fully offline, does this mean that they might work on Linux/Steamdeck as easy anti cheat might not be used in the offline mode ?

LinuxGSM Hurtworld server mod issues.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 12:41

Hello all, I know Hurtworld is an old game. But I do like to play it from time to time with some friends. However when I follow official documentation, although with the LinuxGSM application. it errors...

1 Workshop 1834256023 state flags: Initiating download... Download result callback k_EResultTimeout Download failed k_EResultTimeout Failed to download mod!

This is the error I get when adding loadmod to the starting parameters. This baffles me, because it does succesfully say "Added Mod <modid>" above.

Does anyone have experience with this? I would appreciate all the help.

What's the current state of roblox on linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 11:29

I got a new laptop and really want to make the full switch over to linux. Most of the games I want to play on steam support linux and the only thing holding me back is roblox. I know they removed wine support about a year ago (for whatever reason) so I was wondering if there's a new method that I could use to play the game on linux mint.

Heard of sober but apparently lots of people are experiencing mouse or login issues. Also don't want to risk an account ban. Thanks in advance :)

Performance Difference - What's going on?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 10:45

Hi everyone, I've noticed a difference between two machines I regularly use and I'm hoping to get some insight on why it could be occurring, and possibly some suggestions on how to address it.

Besides regular computing, I primarily use both of these machines for playing WoW via lutris, which has been a smooth experience, however the ostensibly less powerful machine (XPS) manages to produce much higher framerates, with higher stability, more consistently, and at much higher graphical settings.

The machines in question

Dell Precision 3260
CPU - i3-12100
GPU - Intel Arc A380
RAM - 32GB SODIMM DDR5 5600 MHz

Dell XPS 15 7950
CPU - i7-9750H
GPU - Nvidia 1650 Mobile
RAM - 32GB SODIMM DDR4 2666 MHz

Both machines are running EndeavourOS, have the necessary packages installed and the 3260 also has ReBAR enabled.
I know WoW has a reputation for being a particularly CPU heavy game, but from my understanding the i3 should have an advantage over the older i7 but maybe this doesn't bear out in reality. Both systems have similar CPU utilisation (20-40%) while running WoW. XPS GPU utilisation is 99%, unfortunately I'm not able to get information for comparison on the Arc card, but hopefully this will change in the near future with the upcoming kernel updates. Only other thing I can think of would be the thermals - the XPS does eventually kick out enough heat to warm a small room but without noticeable drops in performance, I've also got a pair of external 80mm fans blowing air into the 3260, which manages to reliably drop the CPU temp by about 20C (again, sadly unable to get temp readings on the Arc card).

Any thoughts? I've been scratching my head over this for a while.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered (GOG) not capturing mouse (Fedora)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 09:59

I'm trying to play the Tomb Raider 1-3 remastered trilogy. I'm launching the GOG version through Heroic Launcher using Wine-GE 8-26 (I also tried 8-20,15,5). The game won't capture my mouse. I've seen suggestions to use "Virtual desktop" through winecfg, but that didn't work. I also checked the option on the same page for capturing the mouse in a full screen game. I'm using gamescope through Heroic launcher as well and it doesn't help. I tried passing custom arguments:

-w 3840 -h 2160 -W 3840 -H 2160 -f --

That didn't help either. The keyboard works, a controller works, but the mouse is just in the background behind the game, and it just moves to my other monitor. I've also tried turning off my other monitor.

I'm using an Nvidia gpu. Is this a Fedora, Gnome, or Nvidia problem? Any advice or ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Ready or Not performance questions?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 11. September 2024 - 09:33

Any clue why the game seems to be so... spotty? Is it a UE5 thing? I'm running a 5900x, 64GB of 3200mhz RAM and a 7800xt so I should have *zero* problem getting this to a locked 144hz. Is it just normal for it to run kinda shitty?

Any possible tweaks? On Artix w/dinit (if it really matters)
