Fragpunk closes after a few seconds
Hi, I'm new to Linux, specifically using Ubuntu. The first game I installed was fragpunk, and I used GE-proton9-25 with the launch options "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=0 %command%". It's the only game I'm playing and I wouldn't want to go back to Windows just because I can't play it, any way to fix this?. If you need more information, let me know. I want to do everything possible to make it work.

Can Linux save my old MSI GL75 9SD’s FPS?
Hey everyone, I have an old MSI GL75 9SD gaming laptop (i7-9750H, GTX 1660 Ti). Back when I bought it, it was amazing on Windows 10 — I could run AAA games smoothly.
Now, after 3+ years, I’ve upgraded to Windows 11 and my FPS has dropped a lot. Even games that used to run great now stutter or have lower performance. I’ve already done the usual things — updated drivers, cleaned dust, repasted — but it still feels slower.
I’m wondering if switching to Linux could help improve my gaming FPS. I’ve heard that distros like Pop!_OS or Nobara can be good for gaming, but I’m not sure if they would actually give me better performance than Windows 11.
Has anyone here made a similar switch? Did Linux actually help with gaming FPS on older laptops, or should I just go back to Windows 10 instead?
Thanks in advance!

Zeus + Poseidon "R" key not working
I have Zeus + Poseidon (gog version) installed through Lutris, I have also applied "Resolution Customiser". Apart from some flickering in main menu, it works without major issues. The only issue I encounter is that the "R" key does not work to rotate buildings (eg Palace). I wonder if anyone has a fix for this issue. Thanks.

Bad performance on Arch
day 4 using Linux , I managed to fix ALMOST everything , yet I'm getting worse performance than Windows 10 with more trouble to even start games
testing lies of P max settings
on Linux : CPU 78% , Frames 90
on Windows CPU 70% , Frames 125
windows using more GPU and Linux using
more CPU the thing is my GPU is 3070 and CPU is i5 9600
see the problem here? I have a weak CPU so I can't afford such issues from Linux I want my GPU working more.
consultation, why would I use Arch instead of windows at this point ? it just looks cooler, what do you think ?

FireFly! Developed in Linux!
Hello! I'm Bee, a Knoxville-based Independent Game Developer! I've spent the last year and a half developing my game FireFly! It was inspired heavily by the type of environment you'd find in the East Tennessee mountains, and my childhood memories of fields at dusk with purple skies and dazzling fireflies. It's something I've put a lot of my heart into this game over the past year!
I developed the game back and forth between my Apple laptop and my Linux desktop, and as someone who games primarily using Linux, ensuring that Linux users got first-class support was quite important to me.
The game is about a FireFly named Flyph. After an accident, they find their wings damaged and their parents missing. So, they must navigate the forest floor, venturing through bushes and around trees in search of their family.
The game is still a work in progress, but a pre-release version is available for download if you'd like to give it a try and let me know your thoughts.
Let me know what you think! I'd be super interested to hear ideas. There's still a lot I have in the works, but I'm super eager to get feedback and hear people's thoughts about my game!

Open source UE5 alternative?
Hear me out...
So all the big studios are moving to Unreal Engine 5 because it's easy to use (and learn), comes with support (Epic) and future compatibility. However, this is turning all new AAA releases into an ugly stuttery mess (Mafia OC on a 4090 giving 29FPS at 1080p max?? What?!!?!).
I think there should be an open source, community-built and (mostly-)free alternative that is not only built with ease of use in mind but also performance. It could have tools to clean up unneeded draw calls or simplify shader work, and/or built-in scripts that you could run periodically that would do a lot of that automatically. It would also mean that FSR/DLSS/XeSS implementation would be a given for games developed with it as these would be integrated into the SDK by default. It would be free to use and publish games with but would have a paid version for added support (tutorials, priority bug fixing, 24/7 direct contact with the devs, etc) like how Ubuntu does it.
Thoughts?
>inb4 "it wouldn't work for every kind of game (fps, rts, tps, racing, etc)"
It doesn't have to. UE5 seems to be used most for FPS and third person stuff, so it would only have to handle these two scenarios mainly. A separate project or fork/version could be developed for RTS or Racing, etc.
>inb4 "why dont you start building this yourself then?"
I would love to. I don't even know how to code yet. Started learning Python though so maybe one day.
>inb4 "its too expensive, too big of a project"
The indie studio behind The Scouring just built an in-house engine on C++. Surely if we can crowdsource huge projects like linux distros, DXVK/proton and mods like Skyblivion, it can't be that bad.

Games running slower on Linux than Windows
I recently switched to Linux and choose Mint as my distro (the newest version) and noticed that game performance is worse than Windows. I tried searching for the solution online, but most of them were for the problems that involved Nvidias GPUs. I don't have ome.
My pc is pretty weak (I have Intel i3 Pentium G4400 3.30GHz,no graphics card so I use CPUs integrated graphics) so I tried playing Brawlhalla from Steam and Dead Cells from GOG. Both games ran smoothly on Windows, but on Linux I noticed that both are running worse. Not by much, both are still playable, but it's enough to notice the difference.
Any help would be appreciated.

A slightly different perspective.....
Apologies for breaking the steady stream of "I would like to move to Linux but <insert pet thing> doesn't work" posts. I thought I'd offer a slightly different perspective for your entertainment.
Ok, I am old - ancient even by this sub's standards. I worked with the System V UNIX through the 1980/90's, Solaris at the turn of the century, and have been running a Gentoo system as my only home system since 2003. Up until closer to my retirement I had no time to play video games.
When I retired I found that I enjoy playing single player PC games.
As a public resource, I offer my ProtonDB contributions since then. Starts with kernel 4.19.72 and Mesa 4.5:
https://www.protondb.com/users/883542098
I have yet to find a game that I would like to play that does not run on my Gentoo system. Sometime they take a bit of coaxing. I always post a ProtonDB report when I finish a game - so that it reflects my full experience with the game.
My hardware has evolved a bit over time - given my experience outlined above I choose components that I know will work with a vanilla Linux kernel. So mainly AMD these days - although that was not always the case.
Anyway - make what you will of this, just an old hand musing on the good old days :-)

Proton issues
I’ve just made the plunge from Windows to Linux as my daily driver. Decided to finally do it after running Linux distros on my servers for years now. So I’ve got an issue I’m struggling to fix. I’ve got Pop_OS installed and running. When I try and launch a Windows game in Steam, your play button turns into the stop button and Steam thinks the game is running but after a few seconds it kills the processes. Yes I’ve enabled proton in the compatibility section of your steam settings and I’ve even tried forcing various versions of Proton on a game and still no dice. I am also aware that NTFS drives aren’t exactly supported, so I’ve bypassed it and I’m installing these windows titles directly to the drive my Linux is installed on and is formatted for ext4. I’m really scratching my head here like what could the issues be

Wine not running
Hi! So, i installed a "alternative" version of TASM 1 on heroic games launcher, generally when i used ubuntu i could just install wine on the terminal and a new version would pop up on the wine/proton version selection screen on heroic. Now that I'm on fedora 42 i ran into the same problem, but this time i tried to install wine and winehq but nothing. Am i doing something wrong? Help pls
