Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 21:12

Anyone else getting missing textures and objects in CarX Street with Radeon GPU? All I see is some distance trees and the water/sea under the missing road textures.

I tried several version of Proton including experimental but all exhibit the same problem.

Nvidia Drivers Massive Improvements

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 20:46

So over the past many months I’ve noticed that Nvidia drivers for Linux have become substantially better. Got 555 and now I have 560 and in addition to explicit sync issues fixed on Xwayland, it seems that everything else is all around better as well and the trajectory seems good.

For the longest time, I told myself that my next card would be AMD (I bought my RTX 3090 when I still used Windows daily) but if these improvements keep up, I might just stay with Nvidia.

Anyone else feel the same now at this point?

Can someone help me understand the reason of crash?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 19:38

I'm on a fairly old pc. Genshin worked fine over the past few months. However recently (a week or so) after recent updates Genshin crashes every time after the initial loading screen(the one with the elemental signs).
My Specs:
i5 8400
16 GB RAM
UHD 630
Arch Linux 6.10.10-zen1-1-zen
Heroic Games Launcher v2.15.1 (v.2.14 on my laptop) with wine GE Proton 8-26

So far I've tried moving the game from HDD to SSD, reinstalled the game, disabled mangohud, esync fsync yet it still crashes after the loading screen, even read on a forum that turning on resizable bar in the BIOS might help but it didn't. I just gave up after not being able to figure out the exact cause of error from the game logs.
Also something that I've noticed from the past few weeks is that my audio output switches from hdmi to (alc1220)line out(no peripherals connected) whenever I run a game or play a video(sometimes).
Thank you, I'd appreciate any help and advise. :)

Getadmin.vbs?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 19:21

I tried running the updated Alcino Major portable version of Sega Rally 2 on my Steam Deck. It runs fine on my Windows laptop, but when I try to run it on my Steam Deck, it says 'cannot find getadmin.vbs' and then a window pops up asking me if I want to delete the application and all of its files and settings and no matter what I choose, the launcher crashes and the game won't run.

Is there some way to get the Deck to ignore the admin request?

Can someone explain why RAM and VRAM usage is so high in some games?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 19:16

As the title says this is a big problem making it impossible to play some games.

I'm using Manjaro Linux Xfce. For running the game I'm using GE-Proton9-11.

My PC: CPU: i5-9400, GPU: GTX 1650 Super, RAM: 16GB.

The RAM usage in some games (for example, GTA V, Path of Exile) is extremely high, hovering around 10GB to 11GBs this actually makes me feel very uncomfortable, in Path of Exile it increases overtime but in case of (GTA V) it starts up with RAM close to 10GB and in (GTA V) VRAM also hits max (4GB of this card) and that's probably why it also stutters. I've also tried with Nioh 2 and in case of Nioh 2 RAM usage is fine, but VRAM is hitting max.

Also, I've played all 3 of these games on Windows in past and there wasn't such an issue as there shouldn't be with these games as this GPU is capable of running these games.

General tips for getting non-Steam games to recognize controllers when they don't automatically? Trying to get En Garde (GOG) to recognize controller.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 19:03

I recently got En Garde on GOG due to Amazon Prime and cannot figure out how to get it to recognize the controller after installing it through Heroic Games Launcher (I've tried adding it to Steam, for example, and running it, including through Big Picture Mode). I haven't tried Lutris yet, but I felt like it was a good idea to ask what has worked for people in general for getting controllers recognized.

It might be a specific problem with En Garde, but what are your general tips for getting games outside of Steam to recognize controllers? It feels like Steam has pretty much solved this for games on Steam, compared to the early days of Proton, which has been great. There's always the various ways to get keyboard controls mapped to the gamepad, but I feel like there should be a way to get native controller support working in a recent game like En Garde.

How well games run with integrated graphics on Linux?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 18:26

I want to try games on Linux but I only have a Ryzen 3400g with 16 gb ram which I am not sure if it will enough for gaming on Linux since this one runs games through dependencies or other programs. As reference, on windows I can play doom eternal in medium-low specs without lag, except when changing guns.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 17:44

it's my second day on linux and i'm using nobara. my pc is from 2013 and is kinda weak, with an intel celeron b820 and sandy bridge hd graphics. the emulators that used to run like a powerpoint file on windows now run amazing on linux! even with out of the box settings they're running 35-60 fps! this feels like heaven and i don't want to leave. thanks to this, me and my friends will be playing mario kart double dash for the whole evening! i'm in love with linux and i'm glad that i left windows.

Tell me your **REAL** linux gaming experience!

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 16:49

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about installing Linux on my PC to replace Windows. I'm familiar with the environment and have been using it for years for work and research, but this time I also want to use it for gaming. My question is serious: what is the REAL average experience when it comes to gaming on Linux?

I know about compatibility layers based on Wine like Proton and launchers like Lutris and Bottles. However, when I look for information, I always come across two big categories of people: those who use Linux for gaming and say they have no problems but often don't specify which games they play, what configurations they have, or how much time they spent setting everything up (keyboard, controller, etc.). And those who criticize, say that gaming on Linux still suffers from too much instability and all sorts of hassles, with games (even the most compatible ones) often showing bugs that are hard to fix, and so on.

So I'm asking you all: HOW IS YOUR REAL EXPERIENCE GAMING ON LINUX? Which distro do you use? Was it difficult to configure everything? What games do you play?

PS: someone may be interested in the hardware i currently run:

CPU: intel 13600K

GPU: rx 6800

Pick a GPU?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 16:42

Hi,

Seems my gpu is dieing and been checking just to get something quick and seen some posts of an rtx 3060 and a AMD rx 6650 xt, I'm using cachyOS ftm and benchmarks I seen between both cars the amd seems to be ahead but this benchmarks are done in windows so would it be even better performance in Linux?

Blurry Games

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 15:56

Hello everyone, I have recently installed Archlinux and trying Overwartch 2 and World of warcraft I have noticed something strange, they are blurry.

Is like there is some kind of filter, like when FSR is used, but FSR is disabled, another thing I checked is that the scale is set to 100%:

https://preview.redd.it/rxn15inbazod1.png?width=661&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb477bb2691b1b6408152b2623f8cdac416f31f7

Both games work without any issue, I ran OW2 using steam (experimental proton) and WoW using wine and WoW using wine, I have tried using both options on X11 compatibility, tried modifying the scale but it seems to be doing nothing

Using Archlinux with KDE.

If any one has any idea it will be appreciated, thanks

best way to play games for a user who doesn't use steam, gog galaxy or epic?

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 15. September 2024 - 15:29

i'm not a hardcore gamer, don't have a big library and only play a few older games or indie games. i don't use steam, gog galaxy or epic, so there're three best options to run games without a native linux support: pure winehq, lutris or bottles. what are the advantages and disadvantages of each other? lutris seems to be a launcher/frontend like steam, gog galaxy and epic afaik. so what's the cleanest way to play windows games on linux?
