Europa Universalis 5 crashes (sometimes PC freezes too)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. Februar 2026 - 18:33

Im a beginner using Mint + Proton Qt, other games run fine, but no matter which version of Proton I use for EU5, it either crashes at 96% loading, or at a seemingly random point within the game. For example when autosaving, or signing a peace treaty.

Also something of note, I cant seem to set the 3D map on - no matter which setting I use, I always see a flat map.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing this.

I have to wait around 10 mins everytime I want to play OW.

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. Februar 2026 - 18:01

Every time I want to play Overwatch I have to wait around 10 minutes with the game open for it to be playable. I belive it's shader cacheing or however it's written. Is there any way to make it stop? Like I don't wanna have to wait 10 mins everytime I want to play for my cpu to stop going 100%.

I turned off pre-caching in steam already.

Plutonium Vulkan Issues

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. Februar 2026 - 18:00

Hello everyone.

I've been trying to run Plutonium for zombies on Linux, it works the first launch but after a few minutes it crashes every single time the game opens without fail.

I've tracked down the source of the issue, my GPU is AMD and though Vulkan works the first time, it seems to be slamming into a wall over and over again

err:msvcrt:_wassert (L"!status",L"../src-wine/dlls/winevulkan/loader.c",392)

There also seems to be an access violation inside RADV
Exception 0xc0000005 at /run/host/usr/lib/libvulkan_radeon.so + 0x2a5640

The main offender is the winevulkan loader. It's the repeat offender over and over again. Changing to OpenGL seems like a clever workaround and under OpenGL it opens the game but won't load ANY of the textures because for some extremely odd reason the Black Ops 2 D3D9 renderer appears to be mapped specifically to Nvidia specific implementations, which of course Mesa and AMD haven't (and will probably never) implement.

I'd thought about bringing it up to the Plutonium development team but I doubt they'd give a shit considering I'm using Linux.

What drives me insane though is that I'm the only person who seems to have this problem. Nobody else can ever seem to replicate it. It doesn't matter what distro I use, what display server I switch to, I can never ever get this game to work (I've gone from Mint to Arch and several arch based distros to now Fedora and this game crashes the exact same way every single time.)

Does anyone have any clever workarounds for this? I've tried several launch options like PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% (which opens the game but fails to load textures as I stated before)

I've also tried fucking with RADV launch options and Vulkan Loader settings, I even checked my Vulkan driver to make sure it was initializing correctly. Everything checks out and this is the ONLY game that has this issue.

As I said too, it works perfectly fine on the first launch of the game. I'm able to join a lobby and play for as long as I want, but if I shut the game down and go do something else for an hour or so it becomes unlaunchable. It's jarring.

I'm using a 7900XTX 24GB model (although I doubt the extra VRAM matters). Anyone else having or is able to replicate this issue?

PSS — cinematic Steam library screensaver with Ken Burns effects (Python, works on Linux natively)

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. Februar 2026 - 17:05

After months of tinkering, I'm releasing PSS (Plexified Steam Screensaver) — a screensaver that pulls your Steam library and displays your games as a cinematic slideshow with Ken Burns pan/zoom effects, game info badges, and smooth crossfade transitions.

**What it does:**

- Pulls your entire Steam library automatically

- Shows fullscreen hero art with smooth Ken Burns animation

- Displays game name, genres, playtime, Metacritic score, developer, release date

- Full web-based customizer UI to control everything — which games appear, badge layout,

timing, animation intensity

- Shovelware detection to auto-filter low-quality games

- Multi-account support

- Steam Deck compatibility ratings from ProtonDB

- Supports multiple image sources per game via SteamGridDB

**Runs on:** Windows (double-click exe), Linux (single binary), or from source (Python 3.11+)

**100% free, open source (MIT), no account needed, no data leaves your machine.**

GitHub: https://github.com/Rayce185/PlexifiedSteamScreensaver

Built with Python/FastAPI. The whole customizer runs as a local web UI on your machine.

Feedback welcome — this is v1.0.0 so I'm sure there are rough edges.

Dominion of Darkness - Dark Lord Simulator, big update

Reddit Linux_Gaming - 27. Februar 2026 - 16:48

(It is definitely lowspec - it runs on anything which is able to run a browser).

Dark Lord Simulator "Dominion of Darkness" is RPG/strategy where you are destroying/conquering fantasy world by intrigues, military power and dark magic.

And now it is the time for the big update, focusing primarily on the endgame. Players focused on direct conquest will have new ways to find new battlefields - portals to crazy, Lovecraftian worlds, discovering new lands, and a magical slumber to wait for the rebirth of old enemies/the emergence of new ones (and seeing how the world changes in their absence). For players more interested in the less brutal side of world domination, the options for managing the territories of our empire will be expanded. Will you allow orcs to overrun Dark Elf cities? Will schools focus on training engineers for the army and economy, or on brainwashing them into blind obedience? Furthermore, I’m expanding the Dark Lord’s interactions with other characters, including available romances. Of course, new content requires testing, and since, as usual, it’s highly non-linear and dependent on player decisions (plus random generation), I can’t test every combination myself.

Game, as always, is available free here: https://adeptus7.itch.io/dominion No need for dowload or registration.

And another news - one of the players made a fan song inspired by the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mPcsUonuyo
