Can amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff by itself cause system instability?
I had a weird problem where modded Skyrim on linux caused the system to restart, while on windows, every game i played shut down the computer mid playing.
I have no idea what caused it, but it's not happening anymore.
Now... I had CoolerControl installed before, and as a troubleshooting step, i uninstalled it and removed the amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff kernel parameter as well. But around that time, as well as other factors, the PC stopped restarting, so i have no idea about the cause.
I want to install CoolerControl again to control the fan speed of the GPU, because, the the default fan speed ramp up is so painfully slow that i think the GPU will damage itself. I've seen the hotspot go to 115C while the fans are still slowly and gently blowing a breeze at 500RPM. Idk who thought this is a good idea, but i'm not happy about it.
Furthermore, i upgraded the CPU, and got an AIO liquid cooler which produces some annoying whistling frequency at certain low % of fan/pump speed, so i want to make sure it's always running at least above that.
But i'm afraid the kernel parameter will make the computer unstable again. Is that even possible?
And i'm not talking about adding the kernel parameter, then undervolting the GPU by 70% and wondering why the system doesn't work, i'm talking about just the kernel parameter itself. Because it does expose voltage control, and power control as well as fan control to everything, and i'm not sure if anything is taking control of it that shouldn't be.
Because, last time i used LACT for example, the computer crashed when i tried to change any value, even fan speed. CoolerControl didn't crash immediately, but i've set up the GPU fan speed to be constant (to avoid slow ramp ups), and at that time, the resets were happening, so i have no idea if this is somehow related to exposing the GPU control in any way.
I guess i can enable it, then if restarts happen again, it's probably that. But restarts like that are scary and idk if they can damage the hardware in any way because i did get some error messages relating to hardware the next boot (and only next boot, every subsequent boot, there were no hardware error messages).
Any advice would be appreciated!

Darktide is crashing (still) possible Memory leak?
Earlier I've made a post about this, and I was suggested that it is probably a Distro issue with Mint. Now I've made the switch to CacyOS, which is 10/10 blazingly fast and now I can use HDR, which is amazing, but I am getting off topic.
Sadly, it didn't solve the Darktide crashes. What it gave me, is some indication what might be going on.
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (16) @ 4.63
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT [
RAM: 31.26 GiB
CachyOS x86_64
Kernel: Linux 6.15.4-3-cachyos
KDE Plasma 6.4.1
KWin (Wayland)
This time during the crash I was able to recover the system,
In in htop, the RAM and Swap usage started climbing like crazy, from 10/30Gb to 30/30Gb in a minute to be exact.
And long after the crash, even as I'm writing this the Ram is sitting at 22.4/32Gb and it won't go down.

Worth doing a switch from Debian 12 to current Mint?
I soon need to do a fresh install anyway to fix some minor things, and now i'm thinking of just switching to Mint for gaming purposes. Gaming is not my top priority, but along with video editing, tinkering etc it is still up there.
Running AMD and GeForce.
What would I really lose going to Mint? If you have examples im happy to hear them.
My personal opinion is that Debian just has a lot programs and I am fairly used to Debian since most i've run has been either Debian or ofshoots of it. I would do Arch just by personal preference but it is too much work, Debian in itself is a bit of work to run on your main. (At least when you want to be able to casually use it as a main during limited free-time)
How is the privacy in Mint nowdays? I ran Mint like 10 years ago and I was very satisfied with all of it then. Has they "sold out" in any ways recently?
Stupid questions maybe, but i dont really know anything about Mint like that.

Elden Ring Nightreign Proton FPS jump (Shaders?)
Hello everyone, so I recently started playing around with Linux (Arch with KDE Plasma) and Steam using proton. So every time I open Elden Ring Nightreign the game starts with around 30 - 40 fps and is not really playable, and after some time it gets to 60 and sometimes doesn't even stay there (in some occasions I've had it drop down to 30 again - while being in game). I'm guessing it's the shaders compiling, but I'm wondering if it really is that and if it's supposed to be happening every time.
If anyone has some info I would be really glad to hear you out.
My specs:
Kernel: 6.15.4-arch2-1
DE: KDE Plasma 6.4.1
WM: KWin (Wayland)
CPU: i5 12400
GPU: GTX 1660 Ti
Nvidia drivers: nvidia-open-575.64-5
If any more info is needed I'm willing to provide.

GTA 4 LCPDFR MOD
I can hypothetically install GTA 4 on Linux Mint, since I bought the game on Steam. I haven’t tested yet if it will work and if I will need Proton.
However, my main question is whether I may play LCPDFR on Linux Mint. For those who don’t know, an app must be installed and you search for it by the name “GTA 4 Downgrader”. After the game is downgraded to the version 1.0.7.0, the next step is to install a file from the LCPDFR website and configure the mod.
Will all this work? The answer to this question will influence if I will use Linux or Windows in the future.

Steam gives error "Disk Write Error" when trying something to download
When I trying to download Monster Hunter: World or update something (for example Proton Experimental) , it gives me Disk Write Error. I have enough free space (~70 GB) on my secondary btrfs volume. And Steam installed via pacman, not via flatpak.

Playing ELDEN RING NIGHT REIGN causes my PC to crash
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for help with a persistent issue where my PC crashes while playing a modded version of Elden Ring (Nightreign) through the Heroic Games Launcher. After a few minutes of gameplay, the screen goes blank, and the entire system becomes unresponsive, forcing a hard reboot. I've been troubleshooting for a while and have hit a wall.
System Specifications- OS: Manjaro Linux (KDE Plasma)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
- RAM: 16 GB
- Launcher: Heroic Games Launcher 2.17.2
- Cleared Caches: I have cleared the Heroic shader cache, the vkd3d-proton.cache inside the Wine prefix, and the NVIDIA GLCache. The issue persists.
- Changed Proton Versions: I've tried both GE-Proton (latest) and Proton Experimental. The crash happens on both.
My nvidia-smi output shows I am on the 575.64 driver version, which seems to be a very new/unstable development version. My game logs are filled with vkd3d-proton: Invalid format errors, which strongly points to a driver incompatibility.
I'm fairly certain the NVIDIA driver is the root cause, but I'm not sure how to correctly downgrade or switch to a stable version on Manjaro. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How to play persona 5 phantom x in region locked countries
1 . Download installer and install with wine where you want
2. Add P5X.exe to steam
3. Make a desktop entry in /usr/share/applications with name personahandler.desktop like this replacing exec with your paths:
- run in terminal sudo update-desktop-database
- run xdg-mime default personahandler.desktop x-scheme-handler/wmgooglelogin
Now you should be able to login with your browser
Enjoy!

How do I set up Opentrack?
I have a webcam but no eye tracking. I know that I need neuralnet but the .deb I installed isn't running the application; and when I run it though the menu I get the error "No application is registered as holding this file."
I'm currently on Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1.

LinuxOS for a first timer
I have dabbled a bit with Linux during my university studies, and are thinking about running Linux on my desktop. What are some recommendations you guys can give me? Both in terms of a distro, but also just some general tips about Linux for someone with not as much experience

Problem with Iris Xe driver on a laptop.
Hi! i have a Thinkpad T14 and was trying to play some games that ran great on windows, emulating on cemu for example, and not great on kubuntu or mint. It seems its an issue with the current driver i915 which is defaulted on any distro instead of the newer Xe, how do i change between them? How do i tell the OS that i want to use Xe instead of i915? Thanks in advance

Controller Vibration Issue on CachyOS
Hello,
I'm experiencing an issue with my Cosmic Byte Blitz controller on CachyOS. The controller is recognized and all buttons/axes are working as expected when tested with jstest /dev/input/js1. However, I'm not getting any vibration.
The controller's USB ID is Vendor ID: 20bc, Product ID: 5001 (ShenZhen ShanWan Technology Co., Ltd. Gamepad). I also tried xone driver and firmware and it did not solve the issue.
System Information:
- Kernel: 6.15.3-3-cachyos
- Controller Device Path: /dev/input/js1
Can any body help me with this?

Is there a way to change the “high dpi scaling” on a game in Linux (Jedi Knight, old game)
I’m playing with mouse and keyboard on steam deck, and I found the .exe files for Jedi Academy. Is there a way to disable/enable “high dpi”?
Thanks

Two Point Museum's first DLC announced with Fantasy Finds coming in July
Optiscaler DirectX11_12 gets stuck and fails
I was playing Crysis 3 remastered on Windows with optiscaler fsr 3.x dx11_12 setting on my 7800XT. It is a DX11 only game.
Read about fsr4 and jumped onto Nobara to test it out.
I've tried using different proton versions, from proton-ge to proton experimental and drivers from mesa git are used.
When I jump into the game, first I see, a 20fps drop native compared to windows (any way to fix this?) Plus when I enable optiscaler's fsr3.x dx11_12, the game gets smeary blurred and halts after few seconds altogether.
Does anybody know what could be the issue here? I'd like this translation to work as dx11 fsr3.x is not good.

Intel ARC graphics
How compatible and functional with Linux are Intel ARC graphics? I know they are not as good as AMD or Nvidia, but their prices are very tempting
