Opening steam on Linux Mint causes my system to logout
Everything was working perfectly fine yesterday. But when I tried opening steam today I got this, I don't know what's happening. If anyone has got any information or advice, I would appreciate that.

X11 games flicker on Wayland, NVIDIA.
I got a GTX 1060 for free to replace my old RX 550. Using AMD, I had no problems with games or programs. After installing all the drivers, I launched the first game I had installed, Counter-Strike 2, and... The game flickered so much that it was impossible to play. Then I launched the latest version of Minecraft and encountered the same problem: when I turned on the shaders, the game flickered.
After that, I was advised to uninstall the old version of the drivers and install them using a script from this GitHub repository (Frogging-Family/nvidia-all). It downloaded the TKG version of the drivers for me, but the problem remained.
I tried to fix the Xorg (X11) settings myself, but nothing helped. What should I do?

B580 or 9060XT?
I have now had the Intel B580 for over a year. It has been awesome (and surprisingly good). But, as many of us now, I’m switching from windows to Linux as my main OS. (Fedora and/or CachyOS)
But that experience has not been the greatest.. to say the least. Unstable in games (newer games), lots of visual glitches, not being able to see my bios anymore unless i use HDMI(???). Im this close now to switch to the 9060xt. Question is; stay, or order the AMD card?
(Have in mind, i do game at 1440p with XeSS, and that feature does not work in linux at this point).

Getting error with Vulkan
Just did a fresh install of Fedora 43 KDE. Followed the RPM fusion guide:
sudo dnf swap ffmpeg-free ffmpeg --allowerasing sudo dnf @update --setopt="install_weak_deps=False" --exclude=PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin sudo dnf install intel-media-driver sudo dnf install libva-intel-driver sudo dnf swap mesa-va-drivers mesa-va-drivers-freeworld sudo dnf swap mesa-vdpau-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers-freeworldInstalled Lutris, set the Wine runner to use GE-Proton Latest and installed battle.net from the Lutris add game menu. I was able to successfully install battle.net but when I launch it, after entering my password, it crashes. I've had something similar happen in the past, and went about looking into my GPU/Vulkan drivers and I"m getting an error.

Marvel rivals keeps crashing when starting a match but only when I have Bluetooth earbuds connected
Has anyone experience this issue? I cannot prove if Bluetooth is the problem but every time the match starts the game crashes and so does the whole desktop environment. The game works fine if I don't have them connected, it's weird and I'm confused. I've looked up many fixes and they don't work either. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Can DP to HDMI adapters bypass the AMD 4k 144hz limit?
Been getting more familiar with my CachyOS install, trying to set it up the same way my win10 LTSC setup works; I have an app that saves display profiles so that I can quickly switch from the monitors at my desk to my 4k 144hz TV. I've been figuring out how to make a kscreen-doctor script that can emulate this, but I noticed I wasn't allowed to set my TV to 4k 144hz (I'm restricted to 120hz); after some brief reading I discovered that it's apparently some proprietary HDMI spec BS that's causing this arbitrary restriction.
I saw rumblings in that short research that there are DP to HDMI adapters that can bypass the restriction, but I honestly have no clue how to search for that. Does anyone know of ones that work or what I should look for to find them? My GPU is a 9070XT.
I know 24hz really isn't a huge deal, but I just want near feature parity with windows so that I can eventually completely ditch it.

Linux native vs Proton?
Has anyone tested to see what the performance difference is in games that have native Linux support but running with proton instead?

New subreddit designed to fix/generalize what WineHQ/ProtonDB does
I've been struggling with some advanced 3dcg software lately and this inspired me to create a new subreddit designed to improve/fix/generalize what WineHQ/ProtonDB does and adapt it to modern web realities (such as search indexing, LLMs and the general habit of searching things by typing "reddit my question" into search engine).
Address: r/works_on_linux
Why use it when there are resources like WineHQ and ProtonDB?
Because WineHQ is dying and doesn't even include older versions of Wine in their reporting form and ProtonDB is, while good, focused solely on Proton (also, I don't think you can have questions/discussions there). And in this new community we have general-purpose all-encompassing subreddit designed to be indexed by search engines and parsed by LLMs for future reference.

Nvidia dev says new 590.48.01 driver fixes dx12 performance in linux
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/directx12-performance-is-terrible-on-linux/303207/615
The post says:
"Belated thanks for this report. Can you try 590.48.01? I expect performance is restored. Internally we are seeing improvements with this driver across many DX12 titles compared to 580"
It might be THE fix but let's test it and see if it finally competes with AMD

Problem: Mass Effect Legendary Edition not launching (EndeavorOS)
I use steam. All other games work just fine including MELE until today (Jan 23). I've tried multiple different Proton versions, verifying game files, reinstalling the game, clearing Steam's caches, even launching the exe directly from my system's files, and ofc restarting my computer and checking for any updates. When I press "play" on Steam, it looks like it's starting and even sometimes opens a small window of the EA launcher, but it immediately closes, and Steam looks like I never pressed play in the first place.
The computer itself is a Lenovo laptop with an RTX 4070 and AMD Ryzen 7000 series processor (I think - if necessary I can check for sure).
I have a feeling it has something to do with the EA launcher, but any help would be much appreciated. Again, it was working until today (last played --with no issues-- two days ago - Jan 21). I have no idea what happened or how to resolve this. If more details would be helpful, I'd be happy to provide them.

Our game PUPAI is now available on Steam for Linux, getting it to work properly with the API was a real headache, but we hope totally worth it.
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to share that PUPAI is now officially available on Steam for Linux.
The biggest challenge was making everything behave nicely with the API across platforms, but after a lot of testing, tweaking, and swearing at logs, we finally got it running smoothly.

Titanfall 2 won't boot anymore. Tried everything, any advice is welcome!
Optiscaler somehow has broken Cyberpunk 2077 (blurry, glitches, FSR4 gone)
Hi @ all, I have a really weird problem that I'm unable to fix.
Before everything: Installed Cyberpunk 2077 (Steam; CachyOS; 9070 XT), everything worked fine. Game was sharp, no graphical glitches, and I could choose FSR4 in the InGame-Options.
Then, I did something stupid, out of curiosity: I used Goverlay to activate Optiscaler, and used the Start-Parameter /home/user/fgmod/fgmod %command% on Cyberpunk.
Since then, all Texts and the HUD is blurry. No Problem I thought, I simply remove the Start-Parameter... I did it, but Optiscaler was still here, INS-Key opened it. Okay no problem I thought, I manually remove the whole Game-Folder (.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Cyberpunk 2077/) and reinstalled/redownloaded the Game through Steam... Okay, Optiscaler is gone now, but the Problems somehow still exist. Wtf?
Since then, I can only activate FSR4 if I use the Start-Parameter PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 . But this is the least of my problems: The whole Game is now blurry, nearly unplayable so:
https://imgur.com/q7NU2PT - "Blurry Menu"-Screenshot with MangoHUD for comparison.
And there are Glitches everywhere now:
It doesn't matter what Settings or Preset I choose, it doesn't look any better than that.
Pardon my words, but wtf is going on there? The Game did run perfectly for the last 2-3 Days without Problems, but after activating Optiscale through Goverlay, I can't get rid of this.
Other Games (like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) don't suffer from that Problem, but I never used OptiScaler on that either. It seems that Optiscaler had installed itself somewhere else, where it caused these Problems (and would explain why even FSR4 is gone without the Proton-Start-Parameter).
To be honest, I'm on the verge of remove my local Linuxuser, create a totally new one to redownload everything from Steam, and never dare to use the "Optiscaler"-Tab on Goverlay ever again.
My Start-Parameter on Cyberpunk looks actually like this:
KWIN_DISABLE_TONEMAPPING=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 DXVK_HDR=1 ENABLE_HDR_WSI=1 MANGOHUD=1 gamemoderun %command% --launcher-skip -skipStartScreen
Would appretiate any help, I really run out of ideas^^.
