Understanding replacing Steam Launch Options in Lutris
SO steam has the normal format of:
<Env variables> <Wrappers> %command%
I saw env variables and wrappers are essentially turned into their own things in Lutris, so I set up my env variables and enabled mangohud + gamemode via the global preferences, but now when I launch a Steam Runner game like the finals, it doesn't seem to actually show mangohud. So I'm not sure if any of my variables actually get to the Steam game when it's launched.
I'm running cachyos and Hyprland.

Remapping buttons on Razer Basilisk V3 issue
so i've been moving everything over from windows to linux (Zorin specifically, in case this helps), and i've generally gotten almost everything transferred over. i use a Razer Basilisk V3 for my mouse, and have installed openrazer, polychromatic, and inputremapper. however, as i try to remap my mouse buttons, i've noticed the top two buttons next to the scroll wheel aren't registering whatsoever, meaning i can't remap them.
is there something that i'm missing when it comes to fully using my mouse, or is it a case of me being SOL because razer doesn't have official linux support?

New to Linux. I'm experiencing heavy mouse cursor lags and stuttering on video games. How can i fix it?
Hi. I'm using Bazzite with GNOME 49. This is my first Linux experience. I have chosen the Bazzite as it is an immutable distro so i don't break it accidentally.
I'm also using Full-AMD gaming laptop, the ASUS TUF A16 Advantage Edition with Ryzen 7 7435HS, Radeon RX 7600S 8GB and 16GB of DDR5 RAM. It doesn't have integrated GPU.
I really liked the Linux experience at first, especially the Easyeffects app which made my laptop's speakers sound great (i didn't even get close to this sound quality on Windows).
But i had noticeable cursor lags after a week of usage. This lag happens with both touchpad and USB mouse. This was never the case on the Windows.
My light games (Stardew Valley, Terraria and CS 1.6) are running smooth.
Now i wanted to try out heavier game like RDR2 which was running very smoothly on Windows. I used bit lower settings than i used on Windows but i had lots of stuttering, tried multiple different Proton layers, DX12, Vulkan, VRR off and some Steam start up codes but it didn't fix it.
Then i have tried one of my favorite games, World Of Warships and i had freezes on game menu, some of the in-game button functions was not working properly.
These performance issues on games and the mouse cursor lags made the Linux unusable for me.
How can i fix these issues? Should I try out different distros? I don't want to go back to Windows.

My PC overheats and reboots while playing some games
Most games are fine, but i tried a couple with worse optimisation/ no linux support. Today I was playing Subnautica through Heroic launcher which i thought had unofficial optimisation and my pc was really struggling (I could hear it and felt the heat from it), but I ignored it and kept playing and after like 1,5h my pc rebooted. Same happened while playing Hitman 2 through Steam.
My specs are:
GPU: RTX 4060ti
CPU: Amd Ryzen 9 5950X
RAM: 32GB
System: Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon

My razer naga trinity doesn't work as intended...
I've downloaded Linux Mint 22.3 recently and I noticed that a lot of game doesn't register some of the macros on my mouse. I'm using the 12 num pad module and for some reason the "2" and the "7" do not register. They are not broken because I can use them in other app like discord to write "é" and "è" (yes I'm french and I have a AZERTY keyboard).
But in game they don't work and they register it as "numkey" or "numpad" (I can't remember exactly).
Any help would be welcomed :)

Linux(And Windows) Tale Of Two Wasteland Installer 0.1.4 Release: BSA Caching With SQL
Adding a setup for caching BSA content for MPI files like the TTW installer. This should hopefully speed up the entire process of the install of TTW, or any other tools. It brought my install down from about two minutes to a minute and fourty five seconds.
Also automatic chmod + x xdelta to allow it to be executable for the installer to use if not automatically set.
Windows build is also there, and the user who is helping me test is on windows and reported that it went from the original of 110 minutes to 50 minutes before I added caching, and then finally 12 minutes with caching. They have 16GBs of ram, 11400H and a 2TB NVME for reference.

Help with GAMING!
(Posting this here & in Linux4noobs :>)
I'm aware of Proton and ProtonGE and ProtonDW, but I've noticed that:
A. My NVIDIA drivers are seemingly outdated, tried installing Arknights: Endfield using Lutris (which also didn't open but wtv) and was told I had version 200 despite me updating my drivers before migrating (and after using 'sudo apt upgrade') - Someone helped me with this! Lutris was just reporting the wrong version.
B. Performance is just - not great. I tried playing ARC Raiders, a game I could play perfectly at over 100fps before Linux, and now it's struggling to break 90.
C. As things stand, I'm getting mixed pieces of advices regarding using Lutris or Heroic or what Proton to use or to use Bottles or this and that - you get the point.
Please help! I've tried looking up tutorials to no avail - and following ProtonDB's comments don't work because people have either twice to thrice my RAM or a different GPU.
For context, my laptop has:
- Pop!OS 24.04 with Nvidia (COSMIC)
- 16GB RAM
- 512GB of Storage + a 1TB SSD I have to make Steam mount at startup (It already mounts to Linux on Startup I just have to make Steam look at it)
- NVIDIA RTX 4050 Laptop GPU

Issue with steam games freezing when connected to external monitor
I've recently switched to Kubuntu 24.04 on my 2021 Zephyrus G14 laptop. I've been having difficulties with games launched from steam while connected to my dock. The games will start and freeze soon after, only the graphics freeze, game sound persists. This only happens when I am connected to the dock, and this is my only graphical issue, I've had no other graphical issues with any other applications.
Tested:
Different drivers: 590 open, 580, 590
Assuring that the game is using the card with nvidia-smi
Different proton versions
Games still freeze once connected to the dock if they are started unconnected
Games do not freeze when the laptop is directly connect to the monitor
This leads me to the issue begin related to the dock in some way, or possibly an issue with the interaction of the separate display and steam
This dock had a different multi display issue when I was on windows but an update to the graphics drivers fixed the problem.
Kernel Version: 6.14.0-37-generic
GPU: Nvidia RTX 3060
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900HS
Dock: Mokin 15 in 1 USB-C
Monitor is connected to the dock via Display Port

Zomboid on Linux
Does anyone know how I can fix this? I'm very new to Linux and I was trying to download PZ unofficially (so to speak). I simply downloaded the game, put theo executable in Heroic, and opened Steam. I'm not sure if this subreddit has these kinds of questions; if not, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the correct site.

GOG in 2026 and 32-bit libraries
Hello, I've bought This War of Mine on GOG and I want to make it work on Ubuntu 25.04. The game is compiled for a 32-bit architecture. The problem is that 32-bit libraries don't seem to be packaged anymore on recent versions of Ubuntu.
I tried a bunch of things, such as dpkg --add-architecture i686 but then the package libgl1-mesa0 doesn't seem to be packaged for i686 so I don't know how to get libgl working for the game.
How to get the game working? Thanks for your suggestions

VSYNC mismatch issue on AMD/Mesa [help]
Hello
I've just swapped to linux, mint for now. But the one issue I've been experiencing is a Vsync mismatch. Vsync seems to be working and on by default in cinnamon, but in both cinnamon & games, there is tearing at the exact same spot when vsync is on. You can literally see the exact spot where the tearing happens.
I belive the vsync is working, but it has the timings wrong with the monitor. So i would guess a driver level issue. I made this illustration to show what i belive is happening
Is this a know issue or is it possible to solve it in some way?
I wanted to try to force vsync at a low level, since i understood that to be a possibillity. I've seen references to setting vblank_mode=3 to force vsync, to see how this would affect the issue. But i can't find any way of doing this

Dark Souls PTDE doesn’t work with DSfix
Title says it all when trying to run Dark Souls PTDE in combination with DSfix the game won’t boot properly, it’ll show the window for a split second before immediately closing. For details I’ve tried running this on both of my computers 1 is a desktop with a 6700 graphics card and a r9 5900x cpu 2 is a ASUS laptop with a 3060 and r7 cpu both are running the latest version of Linux mint cinnamon with all the needed drivers. I’ve tried many different versions of wine and proton and launched the game through Steam (adding as a non steam game), Lutris, Heroic, and just wine. The game DOES launch without DSfix but I don’t think I need to explain why playing this version of Dark Souls without DSfix is a bad thing. Now I should probably clear this up yes I am using a pirated version of the game but I have a good reason for doing so first It’s the only way to get a copy of the game anymore without paying 400 dollars for a steam key (which I’m not doing sorry) and I already own the remastered version on steam anyway. Why aren’t I just playing the remastered version? I don’t like the remaster that’s all.

Games stuck at 60fps despite rendering at faster.
ive been having a a great time on linux until i tried to get lossless scaling working. ever since, every game has been running like this capped at 60fps. nothing i do allows them to run "smooth." every setting i can find is set to my monitor's refresh rate. vsync is off. ChatGPT says its likely a composter issue but i cannot get farther than that with the AI. i have an nvidia GPU, but im not sure if that would matter here. i have the latest drivers. the tested games are minecraft, war thunder, and roblox. i have since fully uninstalled lossless scaling and the other software affilliated with it, atleast what i can find.
if anyone has any ideas or has had this problem please lmk. linux mint btw

Steam refusing to uninstall proton or any other tools
My goal is simply to get Need For Speed Unbound to run on my Lenovo Legion Go S (runs steamOS). Unfortunately at some point during the launch sequence it fails (something to do with the EA launcher I presume). Anyways one thing I wanted to try was deleting all of my proton files and having it reinstall what it needs, but for some reason none of my protons or any steam Linux runtimes will uninstall through steam. When I uninstall any game it works just fine. Multiple restarts have been made with no luck.

Need help installing Linux on HP Pavilion 15 Gaming laptop with Nvidia GPU
Greetings,
I'm trying to revive an HP Pavilion 15 Gaming laptop, model dk1xxx. It has an Intel i5-10300H CPU with Integrated Intel UHD Graphics and Discrete Nvidia GTX 1050 GPU, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of disk space.
I've upgraded the laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but Win11 seems to be limited by the system specs. I understand that the GTX 10 series have been officially discontinued and receive no more updates, this added to the constraint of running Win11 on an 8GB RAM laptop prompted me to think of Linux as an alternative.
I've tried Debian, Arch and Fedora distributions so far, but the rolling release nature of both Arch and Fedora makes it hard to make work/business use on the laptop.
Furthermore, I know most business software for Linux is designed with Ubuntu, RHEL (and its extensions), and SUSE in mind. But I have had problems running these distributions on this laptop with discrete Nvidia GPU.
I would like to use Ubuntu or Kubuntu, as they both support low-mid Unreal Engine development, which is the platform I intend to use in this laptop + other statistics and robotics software.
The main problem I have with Ubuntu/Kubuntu is that the screen flickers too much, rendering the laptop unusable. I've tried Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 versions to no avail, and Linux Mint (Ubuntu based) and PopOS also have the same problem.
I wonder if anyone has gone through this same problem trying to run Ubuntu on an HP Pavilion 15 Gaming laptop with Nvidia, any help will be appreciated.
Currently, I'm using Windows 11, it's slow, can't open many tabs or do much workload, but it works.
The distributions that worked effectively: Debian 12 and 13 (+ LMDE, PikaOS), Devuan 6, Arch (+ EndeavourOS, CachyOS), Fedora (+ Nobara, Bazzite), RHEL (+ Rocky, Alma) - with Debian and RHEL based distros needing more setup to recognize the Nvidia card.
Although, I could use any of them, I need to use Unreal Engine for some low-end projects, which is why I tried Ubuntu many times.
I'd appreciate any help on how to solve the screen flickering issue of Ubuntu/Kubuntu in HP Pavilion laptops, or how to setup UE in Linux and the best distribution to do so
Should I consider trying to compile UE on Debian? I've found many people reporting errors, which is why I'm doubtful of it. Arch breaks easily for me, and Fedora removing Xorg support also makes things harder.
I'm genuinely considering disposing this laptop as gaming console or server if I can't setup UE.
Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.
